Nestled amongst other box cars and overlooking a Mesozoic era mini golf course this place has a relaxed atmosphere with friendly staff. Understaffed like many places now a days. Approximately 20 people plus a party, and only 3 people working from grill to waitstaff. We were here about 1 hour 45 minutes. Food was marginal. No fries with sandwiches is blasphemy. Worst dining experience me and my family have ever had. When asking about when our food would be ready, after 2 hours, we were told they "ran out of buns" and our food would be out in "5 minutes " but it wasn't. We asked as a courtesy for a beer to be taken off of our tab for the inconvenience. When further questioning about our food we were given excuses, then were threatened with being kicked out by the bartender. We paid our full bill to that point and left with us being treating as common street trash. I will never forgive your establishment for how we were treated and warned in coming patrons to leave so not to be treated as we were. This will be posted on all social media. We go out of our way to support small businesses but I refuse to be treated how we were by your staff. It was unacceptable. If I could give negative stars I would. Do better! read more

Wow wow wow. So at first, I gave this place a 4/10 from the location and parking. It's kinda sketchy and confusing to find. The place looks small and I wasn't impressed. But don't judge a book by its cover, right? So, I'm not a huge beer drinker, but the blueberry shady is DELICIOUS. Holy moly. If you like sweet drinks, you'll love this. Of course there is a little tartness because blueberries naturally have that. I could not get enough of it. Bartenders were very helpful too with suggestions. The food? Incredible. I got a pizza and for unlimited toppings is roughly $13 for 8 slices. You can pick a variety of sauces, cheese, toppings, and crusts. Even a gluten free option. Delicious, fresh, and hot. I stopped here with my fiance, her family, and my mom the other night (26-SEP-17), it was probably their second or third night open. We ordered food from the depot menu and had a variety of in-house, and guest brews between the six of us. Everything was terrific! They have a small, appetizer-style menu at the brewery itself, but if you want more of a meal, you're able to order it, like I said, from the depot which is in another of the train cars on the property. I might have forgotten to mention, this brewery is in a train car! If you drive onto the property, it's the car that sits atop the hill, beyond everything else that's currently there. You can't miss it though, it's got a huge logo on the side of the car itself. Having a decent brewery this close to home is a dream come true. It's also a dream that my fiance and I will be revisiting frequently. While we were there, the service was excellent, the employees were all super friendly, and every product they put out, food or beverage, was top notch. We will return for sure. read more

This is 3.5 stars, rounded up because I don't know how to describe it, but they get the extra half because the two ladies at the bar were accommodating. First for the beer. A flight of 4, 4 ounce beers was $15, way too expensive. The pints were reasonably priced. The food was good, but the ordering process was archaic and confusing. In a nutshell, you had to open a tab at the bar, call the other restaurant on site if you want something from there, and from that point, just order and hope for the best. The meat and cheese tray from the brewery never arrived. They comp'd two beers to make up the difference. The chicken and waffles was good. The lobster bisque didn't show up until it was time for desert and any evidence of lobster was few and far between. If you like soup for desert, it was a good strategy. Soup was served with a gold plated spoon, circa 1988 wedding gift from Kohl's, while the rest of the cutlery was plastic...again, odd. The pizza at the next table looked awesome and people were raving about it. The pizza restaurant part of the establishment closes at 8:00, as does the ice creamery. I thought that was poor planning and a weird business model. The brewery was open until 10:00. It didn't seem that they knew what was going on, but it was oddly entertaining. I'm giving it 4 stars because I simply don't want to discredit the nice service at the bar or the freshness of the beer. The flight was ridiculously priced, really, $15 for 16 ounces? The food was decent. The railroad car theme was cool. I just don't know. I'm left confused, but I'd come back for the beer and I'd try the pizza. The rest was just a bit bizzaro. I've been to this place before so I was expecting a much more pleasant experience. I actually kind of talked it up to my friends. Well I brought them here on a Friday afternoon and the bartender was rude when we walked in and said she wouldn't be cooking us anything because shes the only one working... there was NO ONE ELSE THERE. She then told us to go to the railcar pizza if we wanted to eat and she LEFT. Like she walked away, into the parking lot and disappeared. Didn't take a drink order, nothing. So we left and walked over to the Pizza Car.... Waited for 20 mins while that guy smoked, our kids were getting hungry and agitated so we left. No one waited on us, no one said hi to us. They lost money today because of the ill mannered staff. read more

What a cute spot ! As an out of towner here for the night, I searched for a local brewery as I often do... Boxcar came up. Dad and I headed there, after doing some research to learn it was an entire complex of boxcars. The only negative experience was when I pulled in and attempted to park in front of the ice cream area, I got about 283793 nasty looks..... yes it was in front of where the window was, but other cars were there and there wasn't a no parking sign.... I don't know if it's implied for locals but you'd think my out of state license plate would give it away.... anyway, realizing the brewery is in the BACK of the complex, I moved my car. At first it seemed super dark and mildly unfriendly, but then you realize the bartenders were just busy and your eyes adjust. Then you realize .... there is a back deck and a back room! We enjoyed our brews on the deck, listening to a local one man band and generally enjoying ourselves. Also realized the bartenders weren't unfriendly they were just busy! I'd definitely recommend you check out this neat spot if you're a local or visitor alike. read more

Reviewing Boxcar Brew is a bit more involved than your normal Yelp review. First you need to take a look at the complex called Doolittles. Doolittles is the creation of local Dr. Jeffrey Rice. A local physician. He obviously is a train buff. We learned from the one from one of the staff at the Boxcar Brew Works Dr. Rice does a lot of work in third world countries including the building of a hospital. Portions of the proceeds from Doolittles goes to his work. Doolittles complex currently contains lodging in rail cars, entertainment, microbrewery, restaurants, creamery, Party Barn, and The Little Caring Caboose. The Caring Caboose is a converted caboose set up for private family dining with special needs. Food is prepared by The Depot. Our first stop at the Doolittles was The Boxcar Brew Works. A microbrewery in a, yes you guessed it, converted rail car. Five stars sums up the Boxcar Brew Works. A must try. While enjoying the Boxcar we were informed we could order food off their menu OR call in an order from The Depot and the staff would bring it up to the Boxcar. Really. That is what we did without any complications. We had two of the best burgers we have had for a long time paired with some great brews. The Bison burger and the Umami burger. We both had the Kale Creaser salad which was amazing. Did I mention locally sourced product? Freshness counts. Check you Doolittles and the Boxcar. You will not be disappointed. Looking forward to trying out the deck when warm weather arrives. read more

This is a kitschy little place in the middle of nowhere PA. I like the idea of all the different levels of dining, however it was a bit confusing. Our waitress was so sweet and let us order from any combination of menus we wanted. Both waitresses working the dining car that nice were so nice and accommodating. They seemed to genuinely care if you were having a good meal. We ended up sitting In the diner car, and ordering from that menu. But having options was nice. Highly recommend if you find yourself out this way for a night. read more

I needed a dog friendly spot to get dinner on a long road trip. This place was perfect. Seriously. The beer is good. The food is good. The vibe is amazing. I happened in on a night that they had live music ... it was good too! There is also a really nice back deck. It's bit confusing to find because it's a part of a larger touristy road side attraction-esque place. Don't get tricked by the roadside diner when you first pull in.... the brewery is further back into the complex and overlooks the mini gulf course. read more

I can't speak for the product, I'm gluten intolerant, but my companions never complain and sitting outside eating is nice. I generally have pizza delivered from "Railcar Pizza" about 30 feet away, and head down to the "Creamery" for dessert after. Heads up, regular children's drinks are pricey, better to get them from the Creamery if you're bringing the family. read more

What a cool place- definitely a gem in our area. They have a unique (and excellent) assortment of beers brewed onsite and several others from nearby. Both the PA Coal (coconut and vanilla imperial stout) and the mango IPA were delicious. They have an awesome selection of food - the made to order pizzas were on point and so fast! And they have vegan friendly options which Is unheard of in this area. The train car has perfectly cool decor and we are excited to come back in the warmer months to enjoy the patio! Amazing brewery in a train car, how sweet is that? Amazing beer! Mikes Seraphic IPA is absolutely phenomenal along with the Brown Dog Brown Ale and PA Coal Imperial Stout. Not going to take off a star for this, just some constructive feedback. The restaurant just needs to serve it's food on plates, especially the fish tacos, since it can be a bit messy. Also, place mats would help. Like I said, not taking a star off for that. The head Brewmaster ,John, was extremely down to Earth and a joy to talk to about all things beer. First off let me start by saying The Depot as a whole is an extremely unique and awesome setting! We enjoy food from the creamer often and the very low prices that come with it! Onto the brew works. My husband and I were out and about one day just kind of looking for something to do. We had ordered pick up from the creamery or the chicken coop as we like to call it. After picking up our food we realized that boxcar brew works is now open and we had been dying to check it out. Boxcar Brew works far exceeded our expectations. The construction is absolutely beautiful we were pleasantly surprised by the space as well. There is a beautiful deck out back as well. We sampled multiple brews which is an awesome perk to this place. You get to try before you buy so you're not stuck with something that isn't for you. I enjoyed Brian's brainfreeze the most which is a mango flavored light brew! It was so crisp but also had sort of a pulp to it which I really enjoyed. My husband's favorite and I liked it very much as well is the Arsenal which is an apple cider like beer. Very crisp and fresh. The rum is the bomb dot com. We didn't get to try the food but are anxious to come back and try their unique menu. This place is unlike anything we've ever seen before. Let alone in little old Dubois. Don't waste your time at Doc G' s if you're traveling from out of the area because it will be a major disappointment compared to this place! 10/10 will return again to get happy buzzed off of some fine local brews! read more
