Staying for a few nights in La Grande and let me tell you, there's not a lot of restaurant choices on a Saturday night here. Or, any night, actually. So, we found ourselves at Denny's. WOW! What an excellent Denny's! You know that old song, "I've Been Everywhere Man"? Well, if that song was about Denny's, it would be my song. I've been to many, many, many Denny's and this one, I think, yes, I'm pretty sure, is the best Denny's I've ever been to. Our food was utterly delicious and our server was delightful. The restaurant was clean and guests weren't fighting or throwing food or robbing the place (I've experienced these at other Denny's). My wife and I enjoy a well- run restaurant-bar, and the La Grande Dennys is on our list of places to stop when we're in Eastern Oregon. Customer service is excellent, the menu has some very interesting and tasty items, and the facilities are sparkling clean ,and the cooks are well-groomed and wearing head covers. Servers are friendly, attentive, and polite. This restaurant is more than just a stopover for freeway travelers. It seems to appeal to local families, tourists on their way to the scenic wonders of Eastern Oregon, hard-working construction crews, or anyone just driving by. There are no long haul truckers, they can't fit in the parking lot! Any restaurant that can appeal to so many is doing a lot of things right. There is a friendly bartender waiting to serve you a very cold beer on the bar side along with what is always an excellent meal. We will definitely keep this Dennys on our go-to list! read more

We don't give out one star ratings without serious consideration but this Denny's deserves this rating 100%. I cannot recall the last restaurant I had to leave because I couldn't stomach the thought of eating food that might threaten my life. The man that sat us smelled so bad that my entire family noticed and the cleanliness of the establishment mirrors that of our host. Looking at the cooks, there was no way I was going to eat here and opted to eat at the Shell station so we could eat something from a wrapper instead of here as it was late and we were jammed on options. This place has become a favorite place to dine out for dates or just casual meals. I have been to many Denny's, and this one has to be the best one yet. As we enter the restaurant, my immediate reaction is that it feels homey and pleasant. We are greeted with the sounds of sizzling skillets and the delicious smells of fresh coffee and a mixture of different foods being prepared. We are surrounding by quiet chatter of friendly conversation between other guests and the staff. Between the atmosphere, food and attentiveness of the staff, this restaurant is a pleasant experience. The atmosphere of the restaurant is pleasant and cheerful. We are surrounded by friendly and attentive faces. The lighting is cheerful. Not too bright nor too dim and adds a nice, soft ambiance. This particular day it was busy, yet within a minute we have a waiter come to escort us to a table. We requests a table away from everyone so we can enjoy a more private meal, and the waiter happily obliges. Though we request a table more tucked away, being more out of sight does not lessen the attention we receive. One can expect courteous and quick service regardless of the number of customers. Although busy, there are servers everywhere, checking on their tables and ensuring the people are enjoying their time and food. Upon recognizing that we have our toddler daughter, the host promptly brings a clean highchair and a kid's menu with crayons. Today we got our usual waiter who greets us by calling us "my friend". We are asked if we are ready for drinks and takes down our orders. My breakfast partner asked for a half-cup of coffee with 8 creamers of each flavor and received exactly that. No annoyed looks, but instead a response of "it's always good to have options!" What makes me feel even better about this place is his patience as I ask our two-year-old what she would like, and the amount of time it takes her to decide. He gives her their drink options, which our daughter responds with apple juice (her usual) and he goes to get our drinks started. Already a pleasant and welcoming experience, and we haven't even ordered food yet. Within five minutes, our drinks come and he prepares to take our orders. Again, he has patience as our daughter decides and circles what she wants (sausages and pancakes) and proceeds to take our orders as well, along with my request for no ham on my eggs benedict (pork gives me major acid reflux) and listens intently to my partners order (biscuits and gravy with potatoes and scrambled eggs). The ordering experience was pleasant and not once did we feel rushed to order our food. They happily accommodated for our requests. The all-time best part of this experience is no matter if they are extremely busy, we always get our food within fifteen minutes and is always cooked to perfection and exactly how we asked for. Our daughter dropped one of her sausages as she tried to take a bite and we called to our waiter, who promptly rushed to our tableside. Our daughter was quickly given a new side of sausage upon request within a matter of minutes. As a mother, I immensely appreciated that the prompt service prevented our daughter from having a fit or being sad about her lost sausage. Not once did the staff complain about our requests or give her a look for dropping her food or crayons. Overall, I must say that the staff is always friendly and keep a smile on their face. If they seem off or indifferent, which has happened, they do not bring it to your table. I have seen our waiter look rather upset or down behind the counter but become cheerful and helpful when greeting us and throughout the rest of our stay. Although it is nice to see a constant happy face, I deeply appreciate that no matter what they are going through, they do their best to try and make you still feel welcome. They also remember and excitedly greet regulars and put on their best cheerful mood for newcomers, so everyone gets great service, and it feels like we all get equal service regardless of our status. Due to prompt service and amazing atmosphere, this will forever be our favorite dine-in restaurant. The outstanding and pleasant experience that we have every time we come in makes us want to keep coming back. As we have eaten there many a time, I can say that there has never been a day that we felt awkward, unwelcome, or not attended to. WOW has this place gone down hill since I was last here in 2019. This is a typical stop for me when driving from Boise, ID to Portland, OR as it is at a perfect spot to get a bite of lunch. Whole seating area seemed dirty, dark and dingy. My food was cold, my daughter's was barely edible and husband just went into military mode eating it so fast I am not sure it really registered what it was like to him. I am going to have to do some research online to figure out another place to stop as this was very disappointing, tho the bathroom was clean for a Denny's and a welcome sight after being on the road for a while. read more

Your standard Denny's. The exterior hasn't been updated since the 70s I imagine, but that's not a deal breaker by any means. A group of us wanted to grab a bite to eat before doing a WalMart haul and were debating on where to stop. It was decided Denny's was the best choice so we drove in. This Denny's shares it's parking lot with a motel, so it was crowded. Fortunately, it is also very large and had many spaces still available towards the rear of the lot. We walked past the entrance to the cocktail lounge on our way to the main diner. Not that we needed a cocktail at noon, but a few people apparently did - we watched traffic in and out of that area from our seats later. Service was decent, although my boyfriend and I only received one coffee refill (they may not have been quite as focused on the coffee because we had ordered a milkshake). Each of our orders came out hot and with special requests met - like butter on the side of my French toast rather than on the slices. No complaints from anyone at the table. I only had one issue with my order, and that was that the toast was so rich and thick I should have only ordered two slices, not the full order of three. One note, neither good nor bad really, was the milkshake we split tasted more milky than the creamier version we had become used to in Salem. We did appreciate that rather than one glass and then the metal blender cup thing for spare shake mix, we got two nice glasses both topped with whipped cream. That was a nice touch. We had such a great experience at this Dennys! We love to stop in at Denny's when we are on road trips so we can get a good meal for the day and let our kids get out of the car to stretch! I was only in this Denny's for a few minutes. I placed a call in order but wow was I blown away by the speed and service of the people there. Even just placing the order through phone call the worker on the phone sounded very friendly and caring. I felt great about myself. Then when I went to pick up the order, which I placed on super short notice, it was ready super fast! Then the lady that was at the register, who I assume was the manager, was very friendly and talkative. She made great small talk that helped me feel like she genuinely cared about me. So after a dance recital my dame wants ta chew. So we jump in the boiler and against my better judgment we decide to give this dump another chance. Yah yah, I know leopards seldom change their spots right? My old man always told me "don't be a bunny, once bitten twice shy" We get to this dive ... again ... and sit down ... again. The frail who seats us brings me a warm cup a joe. NOT hot .. warm. She brings tea for my woman and drifts away. My cup runneth empty and no one comes to fill it up. I gotta ask and get the word they gotta make some. Imagine that, a coffee joint with no coffee. We order and in about 20 minutes I FINALLY get more java. Least it was hot. After 35 minutes we don't have anything to eat yet. I ask to see the high pillow and tell her about my last trip here. See my review if you want it's here. This whole thing is feeling hinky to me. I tell the boss lady we're gonna fade and I'll just pay for the coffee. She says if I'll just wait a bit more she'll go have my food sent right out. We give them the benefit of the doubt .. again. The waitress comes back to tell me someone lost my ticket and my food never got ordered but if I'll just wait they'll feed us on the house. I said, nah, we want to eat tonight. The waitress was indignant that offering us a handout wasn't gonna cut it. Maybe I looked like a weak sister to her. But I tell ya this, I can't be bought. Ok .. I can be but I can't be bought cheap! Maybe someone should send her pearl diving instead of trying to wait on customers. I mean if you forget to wash a dish who really cares. No wait, in this dive if you don't take care of your customers, no one cares. So we took a powder hungry as we were when we went in ... but about an hour later. I learned my lesson. I won't go back in this dump when I'm hungry. I told the manager they need HELP training their staff. Lots and lots of help. Bottom line .. don't go there if you want hot coffee or food in the foreseeable future. read more

It's hard to get enthusiastic about a Denny's, but this one makes it easy. My college friend groups would often crash the place with groups of dozens or more, at all hours of the night.
