Do not go here. They took a full set of x rays during my new patient exam, charged my insurance, then had an issue with the x-ray software, so no one actually reviewed them. I went to this office for a new patient exam. I was quoted approximately $400-$500 for the entire visit. Upon arriving at the counter to pay, the receptionist told me I could purchase the DentalWorks Advantage plan for $150 and that aside from that I would need only pay approximately $100 for the cleaning. I paid and happily went along my merry way. DentalWorks has now contacted me repeatedly to try to collect almost $400. The contact center reps do not have the information on file showing that I had the Advantage plan, and they do not transfer me to the actual Louisville office to discuss the issue. This office seems to be incredibly disorganized. I am trying to give the benefit of the doubt, because otherwise this feels like a scam or some kind of fraud. I reported them to the BBB but got no response. I will be going to the office in person in the hopes that the practice can explain itself. I hope that they can fix their mistake. An apology would also be nice. Edit: DentalWorks has said they will follow up after reading my reviews on google and yelp, but so far have not done so. I will be keeping this review updated so that others know how this matter was handled. So far no contact and likely will not follow up, but would love to be surprised. I went to DentalWorks in December, I didn't like the dental student or the assistant. They did a bunch of talking while inside my mouth. When they were done filling the filling, he had me bite down, I told him something wasn't right, he said it was because I was numb, Well Monday, I was chewing gum and next thing I know I was in excruciating pain. I am chewing on one side until my appointment. I can't get a cleaning until July!!! I need to see a dentist today, so I will call and see if I can see Dr. Ryan, not the dental student. After multiple issues with billing, I have had enough of Dental Works. The dentists and support staff who work there are great. However the management of the billing and plan of care provided by the office manager is abysmal. My insurance covers annual exam and two prophylaxis encounters (cleaning) twice a year. More often than not, the office will attempt to collect a $35 co pay for exam. They attempted to do so today. I was quoted $174 (ish) for the cleaning. I called back after I had verified my coverage with insurance, to speak with the office manager. The assistant I spoke with denied my request to speak with the manager. She stated I would still be responsible for my copay (which insurance had stated should be $0 if a routine cleaning or 30% of cost if billed at a higher requirement of care, about $60 on average in this area) I requested a Letter of Predetermination be sent to my insurance prior to the next visit and was told that would not be happening due to the need for the primary insurance to close out their claim before it could be submitted to the secondary. She stated this process could take up to a year but I would still be responsible for my copay. I called my insurance company back. They clarified billing to primary before secondary was a common practice that was not necessary, that the claim could be filed with my secondary without the primary claim being finished. The insurance company expressed concern of the history of incorrect and possibly superfluous billing being performed by this office. read more

Don't Go here! The negative reviews are correct. I had to file a complaint with The Better Business Bureau. I've been going here over 5 years until Dr Stelzer began using other dentists to fill in. Dr Clark botched my crown on my implant and they refused to fix it. I had to go to a specialist who confirmed that it was not placed correctly and have it removed. It caused considerable swelling and infection almost a year. I still have an abutment on my implant because the experience was so bad. The office workers and dental hygienists rotate in and out because they can't keep anyone. read more

Said the hygienist wasn't available and the next appointment available was in January 2024...seven months later??? My appointment was the day before his and I arrived to have the receptionist tell me that I missed my appointment by an hour. I tried to show that I had two emails and two texts confirming my appointment time, but she never looked up at me and just kept pecking at her keyboard. I just left speechless. read more

As someone who was traumatized as a child on a dental visit, there came a time (as an adult) years ago when I realized I needed to keep my teeth healthy. Over time, I went thru several dentists who "catered to cowards' as they often advertised, which made me feel comfortable about going with them. In each instance, they started out fine, then the quality of services began to decrease bit by bit, forcing me to find yet another dentist. I finally discovered. DentalWorks a few years ago, and this recent visit - like the others - come close to doing what I want from a dental office when it comes to efficiency and care. So that's the preface. The visit was less complicated I'm glad to say. This was just a basic semi-annual checkup appointment, but the one thing I like about this DentalWorks office is that they send out reminders up to a month in advance, and then weekly and up to a day or two ahead - both thru my email and text messaging. I'm given an opportunity to confirm the appointment, or call to make adjustments if necessary. On this occasion, my dental hygienist called to double-check because the computer had me down for two appointments within a few days of one another. She wanted to double-check as they'd found the glitch in a couple of other appointments, so "crisis" averted. Upon arriving at the facility, I was promptly greeted by reception, and since I'm a repeat client who had no change in address, etc., they just asked me to take a seat. My appointment was at noon, and my hygienist was with me shortly afterward, which is NOT unusual for them. I know that with doctors' offices, we have that mindset of "hurry up and wait." I've always been fortunate with DentalWorks that rarely (at least with my case) have they run more than 10 or 15 minutes behind if they were backed up, so I'll give them that in their favor as well. I believe Kristin has been my hygienist since I started using DentalWorks, and she knows what issues I have and the best way for me to continue to care for my teeth. She is quite personable, and we always have our six-month catchup about one another's lives since my checkups are pretty much the ONLY time I'm there. She is good all around about her work, whether it's in the general maintenance such as cleaning, or in carefully checking to see for what services I'm due. Case in point: although I was due to have my annual X-rays, due to the timing of when they were performed in 2017 and the date of my appointment, there was a few days difference. She was concerned that due to this, my insurance might deny the X-ray claim. To be on the safe side, we'll wait until May 2019. But this is the type of attention I appreciate. The cleaning, polishing, etc. was excellent as always. My dentist did the final follow up and I have a clean bill of health. My first appointment for 2019 was set up; I received my little daily goodies, and was ready to go! A basic day without the need for drills, etc. Dental appointments should all be that simple. I've had more complicated appointments in my time with them - this past May I had to have fillings replaced, but again, it was a good experience. Having a good medical staff is important, especially when it comes to a dentist, as they realize what many of us, as children, might have undergone back in the "good old days" of dentistry. Thanks to offices like DentalWorks, they have helped to alleviate some of the stress in going to the dentist. I can't give them enough of my appreciation. read more

I have been going to Dental Works on Bardstown Rd for at least 10 yrs. My last visit was 3 yrs. Ago when I went in for a 2nd set of dentures (over $3,000). This time they had me sign some kind if form about them not taking responsibility if dentures were not goig. (Not exact words). I have had at least 3 teeth fall out of my top dentures. The third one the top front tooth just came out, I popped them back in but this should not have happened. I am leaving town in a couple of weeks for 4 months. I pray I don't have to end up gluing them back in. Now I know why I had to sign that paper. I can't believe Dr. Ryan would have allowed such shoddy work. I will never go back. read more

Highly recommend not using this facility. I was fitted for dentures 6 weeks ago. My appointment was canceled twice. The last time they didn't notify me. I was then told not to call them they would call. Front desk was extremely rude. I called manager who informed me they lost their contract with the lab. I called today and was told office manager quit and office was being run by one person. They also informed me they couldn't find my insurance information and were billing me personally. When she gets there they tell her that they will not be able fix it because of short staff. We drove to pick her up from school to make this appointment and they were not willing to help squeeze her in or anything. So my husband calls and the lady on the was not willing to hear him out and then hung the up on him. So words was exchanged and nothing was resolve . I went to DentalWorks because it is close to my home and though there were some mixed reviews, the receptionists and one of the dentists I spoke with were very friendly and nice. I went in for a cleaning - which is what I requested when I called and visited (it's very close to my house) - and instead I got x-rays and an exam. The assistant doing the x-rays was very nice, however DentalWorks still has an old x-ray machine which is uncomfortable and takes quite a bit of time as compared to current technology. The hygienist did her exam in a very curt, but professional manner and told me I needed to get a deep clean (my words), and left immediately. The assistant came back and I told her I just want a regular cleaning. Dr. Ryan was very nice and then I was done - and needed to schedule my next appointment. At the front desk - the receptionists are very nice - I asked for a different hygienist and again stated I wanted a regular cleaning. I scheduled my cleaning appointment. When I came back for my cleaning, the new hygienist reviewed my chart and told me I needed the "deep clean", I reiterated my desire for only a regular cleaning. The hygienists left to consult with the dentist, then came back and told me it would be unethical and illegal for them to only do the regular cleaning. I told him that was okay, and that I would like my x-rays so I could go to another dentist. The hygienist left and came back with a dentist (not Dr. Ryan). The dentist said it would be medical malpractice for them to just do a regular cleaning. Again I told them both I was there for a regular cleaning or I would leave. The dentist blocked my exit from the room and tried to explain his position, again using the malpractice argument. I asked for my x-rays and they told me I could only have a copy. The receptionist gave me my copy and I left. I went to two different dentist's offices in the span of 48 hours, both agreed to my request for a cleaning. I did not share the DentalWorks opinion. And I did get my regular cleaning within 48 hours of leaving DentalWorks. I really liked Dr. Ryan, and the receptionists. The hygienists were less than welcoming, and the second dentist was very aggressive and I would never want him to have sharp tools inside my mouth. Several people including a friend and neighbor told me in advance that DentalWorks tries to upsell their cleaning. I just didn't know they would be so aggressive, and cite the possibility of medical malpractice in their effort to get more money. I am very happy with the cleaning I received from the other dentists office. Two of the people who warned me away from DentalWorks have not been to the dentist for over a year because of their experience. read more

After I stopped going to my pediatric dentist, I had some a not-so-great experience with another dentist in town. After that, I was left scared of going to the dentist for awhile. Finally, I knew it was time to go back, so I started going to Dr. Ryan at DentalWorks at the recommendation of Toree P. Now, I go to the dentist every sixth months with no hesitations! The staff is friendly at DentalWorks. From the front desk staff, to the dental hygienists, to Dr. Ryan, I have been consistently pleased. I schedule appointments with ease, and the appointments themselves are a breeze. I have a couple cavities re-filled when I first started going here, and they were able to do them the same day as my cleaning (upon the discovery of needing them). They also will do whitening trays for at home for you, and as long as you go back, you can get new gel. That's a little fun bonus. The location is conveniently in the Highlands, and there is a parking lot behind the building (which is where you enter). I definitely recommend DentalWorks and Dr. Ryan. I just wish I had started going sooner! read more

Always have a good experience getting my teeth cleaned here. Staff is good working with getting appointment times that work for you and I like their email reminders/check in for your upcoming appointment. Alex has been cleaning my teeth for the past year or so and he does and awesome job. I haven't had any cavities or anything like that so I can't speak to that experience. The dental office itself is fine, just a tad dated but that doesn't affect the actual work that's getting done on your teeth while you are there. Not a good experience. I made an appointment on the website and requested a simple cleaning (which my insurance currently covers). I received a confirmation and scheduled a date, all good. When I arrived for my cleaning, I should have known something was up when the receptionist greeted me with "We can get you in for a consultation but we may need to reschedule your cleaning due to time constraints." This came as a bit of a surprise to me but I was hopeful. Fast forward to me sitting in the exam chair. The old x-ray machine that they use (non-digital) was not working properly and they had to take my x-rays a couple of times. Quite an uncomfortable experience with aged equipment. The x-ray tech was very nice though. After the hygienist came in and conducted an exam of my teeth/mouth she stated that I had a bad case of gingivitis that required a special laser procedure. I was a bit shocked. While I probably don't floss as much as I should, I haven't had a cavity or any dental problems in at least 10 years. After diagnosing me with this problem, another lady comes in with a printed bill telling me it's going to cost nearly $300 to conduct the laser procedure. I politely declined, which didn't make her happy. She proceeded to tell me that my mouth was on the verge of periodontal disease and that I may "lose my teeth." I again declined and asked If I could receive the cleaning that I made the appointment for. The two ladies walked out of the room for about 5-10 minutes. When they came back the hygienist said that they would do the cleaning on the condition that I make another appointment in 6-8 weeks. When I finally got the opportunity to meet the doctor she was very nice. She said that, despite a little bit of gingivitis, my teeth were in good condition. Safe to say I left the office very confused. I've never experienced this kind of salesmanship at a doctor's office before. I won't be returning. The doctor and the x-ray tech should find another place of employment, they were good people. read more

Same story and many other FORMER customers. First time to the office as I changed just for a more convenient location to my house. Also, I was told they provided free teeth whitening /trays. When the grass looks greener in another yard just water your own grass!! Took a mouthful of x-rays. No pun intended. Everything was slooooooooow!! Pretty car salesman then came in and tried to sell me some $400 laser treatment. Said they could likely squeeze me in for treatment in 10 minutes. I asked for just a normal 6 month cleaning. No they couldn't as it wouldn't be beneficial. Oh yea, no teeth whitening / trays anymore. I bounced and went back to my old dentist. Felt bad I left them in the first place. Was just looking for a place that accepted my insurance closer tor the house. I won't make that mistake again. As for dental works it appears this is a consistent sales tactics. Dr. Ryan is the best and the entire staff at DentalWorks in the Highlands are friendly and professional. Like most people, I have always dreaded my twice a year dental visits. The grinding, scraping and not so pleasant tasting fluoride all while holding your mouth open for 30 minutes- not so fun. However, Dr. Ryan and his staff not only make it tolerable, they make it almost enjoyable. In the three years I have been a patient at DentalWorks, I have always been greeted with a smile and taken back for my scheduled appointment quickly. While cleaning my teeth, the hygienist makes good conversation that makes me feel like an old friend. Dr. Ryan remembers that I am a runner and asks questions about how things are going, etc. It kind of feels like the "Cheers" of dental offices. If an appointment time no longer works for me, they gladly put me on a call list for cancellations and work me in as soon as possible. I chose to try Dental Works on Bardstown Rd based on positive google reviews. However, do not let these fool you! The receptionist was incredibly rude and belittling of me. She kept trying to force me to give her my dad's social security number and getting upset because she could not find my insurance profile in the system. The dentist himself was fine. However, I recently got an outstanding bill in the mail, despite already paying for the service in the office. I have tried to call them four to five times within the past few days, and have even left messages to other locations requesting a call back. Yet, still no response. Would not recommend. read more

Everybody I came into contact with here was awesome and very professional. I had been having terrible wisdom tooth pain (always fun) and they fit me in on the day I called to get it looked at. Getting my wisdom tooth out was relatively painless and Dr. Wofford was great to work with. They even worked with me on my lack of dental insurance and set me up to pay WAY less than I would've expected. My husband had his upper teeth pulled. The dentire was put in the day they were pulled. All the work now is done only by hygienists with little oversight. They never fit and after going back until Covid shut things down the last one, after we asked to talk to Dr. Ryan, said nothing they could do he would have to live with them. what they IGNORED and did not tell us, we havr found out 2 DENTISTS and consults later... Those shoulf have been HEALING denture, not permenent. A healing denture is in for up to 6 months or so letting all the swelling go down, gums heal and then the permanent liner/denture is fitted. until we were able st the end of Covid to see a second dentist for consult (first did a emergency tooth procedure who saw denture snd said it wss not made for his mouth. It was so loose it would come out after using adhesive during a meal. We use about a tube a week. We have filed a grievance with Delta Dental and the number given on Dr. Ryan site DOES not return calls-- after 5 times. There is no address given. we have a awesome dentist that is FIXING the mess these hygienists were allowed to do, have indurance pay for and NOT finish. they STILL have not mailed my NEW denture made the same time they told me they would when they came in. They were not in last visiit and covid hit. I called to pick up twice and they were not seeing people. Said they would mail. Going on 2 years and l do not have a denture PAID for in 2020. The dentist we have now never closed at all during Covid. i DO NOT recommend this dentist office. Dr. Ryan was a good dentist when l started 20 years ago but he now delegates. I have previously felt it impossible to give a high rating to an establishment that functions to put their hands in and around my mouth. I have an aversion to dentists, so what?! However, when I first moved here I was referred on to one of the dentists here by an oral surgeon I did a clinical rotation with and I have never looked back. My first visit was painstakingly long - courtesy of having not seen a visit for a number of years. The visit, however, wasn't awful. They took care of me flawlessly, cleaned my teeth up, and got me all set up for my follow up visit to make sure everything was set for a traditional follow up schedule. Fast forward 3-4 years later and I usually see one of their newer additions - Dr. Wofford. She is professional, courteous, and very friendly. She answers any questions I may have and knows I like a good explanation or two as to what could be happening and never seems annoyed by my inquiries. This is saying a lot for me so here goes: I highly recommend Dr. Wofford and the staff at Dental Works. They never charge me for anything I don't need and they're open to me declining things I don't want done. If you're looking for a dentist, I'd check them out. read more

If you are in need of a new dentist I would HIGHLY reccomend Dental Works on Bardstown Rd. I am a big chicken when it comes to the dentist but Dr Ryan and his staff put me completely at ease. Everyone is incredibly friendly and patient. They explain everything to me and make sure I understand. They also talk about financial implications up front and try to work with you as best as possible. I had not been to the dentist in a while and they didn't shame or make me feel bad about myself. Beyond terrible experience. Few years ago, I visited Dr.Ryan for a simple tooth filling, but turns out he found a dozen unnecessary procedures. Ridiculously profit hungry business. Please get a second opinion before letting them do any work! The assistant was very kind, but the dental hygienist was extremely rough and intimidating. My whole mouth hurt and gums were sore for a week, from her consistently pricking at them. I am warning you, do not go here. Especially not to see "Dr." Bryan Veal. I believe he needs to re-qualify his medical skills before doing anymore work! He damaged my husbands nerve endings and he doesn't feel half side of his tongue. Be careful, visit at your own risk. I have only had 2 dentists in my life. Mine retired and this one was accepted by my insurance and close by. The appointment took forever. The tech taking the xrays had lots of problems and seemed new. No big deal. I had a bad feeling the entire appt. The dentist came in to go over the results before I even had teeth cleaned. I had 2 cavities which they said I could schedule a later appointment to have completed. Before my cleaning, someone came in to go over costs. Brought a list of what each part of my laser treatment would cost. I just want a normal cleaning, like I have done every year for my life. They said because of the "condition of my mouth" a regular cleaning wouldn't work. After insurance it was totaled to $480, some of which were 0 costs crossed out with 88 each on top because "they weren't sure why it printed like that." What a scam.
