Dr. Johnson was great. I need extensive dental work but he explained all of my options, and gave me insight to other options. Very understanding about a senior citizens budget.

I had a root canal about five years ago and three years ago the tooth woke me up with a searing,…read moreelectrifying, throbbing pain, that spread to the entire right side of my mouth. I went to a dentist who gave me antibiotics and told me I could either have the tooth extracted or see if the pain subsides and if it does do nothing for now. The pain went away and did not come back for three years until two weeks ago, the same pain. I went to my dentist and she said that maybe the tooth was cracked or the dentist who did the root canal didn't remove all of the canals. She recommended I have the tooth extracted and get an implant, this came up to about $5,000. I told a co-worker about my situation and she recommended that I get a second opinion and referred me to her dentist Gary L. Johnson. I was able to get an early morning appointment the next day! The entire staff was extremely friendly. Dr. Johnson examined my tooth and offered two options, one get a 360 degree x-ray of my tooth to have the best view of its condition and if the Endodontist recommends it, have the tooth retreated or go ahead and have the tooth extracted, get an implant, and be done with it. Dr. Johnson referred me to Drs. Navid Akbar and Elias Haddad. After the 360 degree x-ray it was determined that the retreatment had an 80% chance of success and if I did the retreatment the dentist could get a better view of the condition of the tooth, i.e is it cracked. The dentist let me know that even after the retreatment there was a chance the tooth could become re-infected and at that time the only option would be to have the tooth extracted and replaced with an implant. I decided to do the most conservative and least expensive option first (360 degree e-ray, root canal retreatment, and crown came to about $1,100). The doctor said the procedure went great! Hopefully this will be the end of it. However, if a few years from now the tooth becomes re-infected and I have to have it removed I am still glad that I had a more conservative option I could take first. I don't want to lose any of my teeth even if I can get an implant. I am so thankful to Dr. Johnson because he gave me options to try that left the most radical thing as a last resort. He is also very friendly. The two weeks prior to seeing Dr. Johnson were very scary because I was in pain, I was in the process of moving, I had a lot of work to do, and I didn't want to have my tooth extracted, but I didn't think there was any other option. Thank you Dr. Johnson.

This is a black owned dentist in the Camp Creek area. They are very professional and knowledgeable…read more They explain everything to you in common language so that you understand what's going on. Service has been prompt at most appointments. My appointment was at 2pm today and I was in the back by 2:05. Dr. Curry and Dr. Alexander both treated me with care and made sure the appointments were least stressful as possible.

Front staff and dental assistant(s) . . . never an issue. However, based on multiple encounters…read morewith the dentist (not sure if I have dealt with Dr. Murray, but the deal breaker for me is Dr. Alexander.) I have come away with a very "corporate America" impression of the practice: rushing through procedure (+aggressive drilling--I have experienced the exact opposite more recently at another practice--proof that I wasn't imagining the aggression); procedure -pushing ("What are you waiting on to get [XYZ]" as opposed to asking IF I was interested in the procedure and why it would benefit me); and being non-informative (Dr. Alexander referred me to a specialist but did not exactly inform me WHY--rather than empowering me with information, I asked all the questions, and getting answers were like pulling teeth.) The lack of information may very well be due to the fact that a specialist was required for the very dental area Dr. Alexander worked on weeks prior (get where I'm coming from?) Lastly, upon being given the referral slip to an endodontic specialist of Dr. Alexander's /PS's choice--who BTW could not get me in for over SIX WEEKS--I was NOT told at that time that I could take that referral to an endodontic specialist of my choice if their specialist choice couldn't see me in a timely matter. It was only after the long wait when I, using wisdom, decided to seek out another specialist ON MY OWN and asked PS for referral slip for the specialist of my choice that I was told I could have used the original slip elsewhere. The endodontic specialist I chose got me in the SAME DAY I called. I NEVER would have voluntarily, patiently waited six weeks if I'd known that I didn't have to use their choice. I waited SIX WEEKS in my condition only because PS didn't inform me of my options up front. From henceforth, Pampered Smiles Camp Creek will be in my rear-view mirror. Like, bye. Adios. Hasta la vista.

Here's why Im giving this rating…read more.. PROS: The staff was REALLY nice... office was very swank and the Dentist Dr. Butts was very charismatic. The Dental Assistant, Kim was VERY good, as she seemed very knowledgeable about my issue and genuine about wanting to fix it, as was Dr. Butts. CONS: Prior to going, I researched reviews for this dentist and office. I was leary but in comparison to 'Pampered Smiles' on Camp Creek, which purposely codes wrong so they can charge more, I chose this place. Also it being close to my home and black owned and operated were some pluses for me! One of the main reviews I saw mentioned the loud inappropriate music playing in the office. While this is partly true, there was music playing... and it was loud enough to be heard throughout the entire office; it was not offensive rap music, and neither was it too loud. It was actually cool R&B music, which to me, was just loud enough to break the monotony of silence. My biggest issues was the lack of time management in this office. My appointment was for 2:00pm... I didn't get called to the back until 2:30 (no biggie), and as I sat and typed this review 3:40 had calmly crept up. This is DEFINITELY a problem! I had to push back another meeting that was to follow this dr. visit at 4:00, becuase I was nowhere NEAR done, only to have to call and cancel because it was 4:07 when the lady finally came in... and this was all only for an ANNUAL CLEANING! If Dr. Butts expects to keep quality returning clients, they have got to do better! Second, while the staff overall seemed friendly, I was surprised at the office manner. I would not call the staff rude.. but not really professional either; just extremely laxed and informal, and to many, like myself, this could be taken as slightly unprofessional. So, that is MY experience. Because they seemed knowledgeable and Dr. Butts was cool, I gave them a 3 which means I'm willing to go back, with hopes that the 2nd time around will be a tad bit different. Hope this review helps... both another prospective patient and the Camp Creek Dental staff.

THEY IGNORED ALL MY CALLS. I'm just gonna assume that means they are refused to work with me. Simply because they don't know how, due to the complexity of my situation. Typical. I'm used to being turned down by people who have no knowledge. Also, my time was wasted as I was promised to be shown what my smile could possibly look like... The fact that I wasn't shown anything, tells me they didn't see any end result, with me smiling. That they have no hope in seeing me smile. Dr. Butts had no clue what he was doing or saying. I had to school him on my own mouth. I'm gonna give a detailed google review of my falsely advertised free consultation.

Dr. Gordon personally called me the evening after my surgery to check on my condition and asked if I had any questions or concerns . The attention to detail and the commitment they have to patient care is incredible, the entire staff treated me in the most respectful manner and the staff is very knowledgeable and professional, they made sure that all of my questions and concerns were promptly answered and addressed. I have since called his office twice and sent three text messages relating that the abscess had gotten larger and quite hard and the pain was much worse than before the extraction. The abscess is pressing on the tmj and nerves in my ear and jaw bone, creating pain that even prevents being able to keep my mouth closed. I conveyed that my body does not have a necessary enzyme required to convert tylenol #3 (codeine) into morphine; therefore, I am without pain medication. Dr. Gordon would not allow me to give him the history and progression of the tooth injury and resulting abscess. He said that I should only respond to questions he asked. He further chastised me during surgical prep and did not allow me to ask any questions about what he was prescribing. He left the surgical suite, and I had to get up and leave after a while because he nor his staff came to check on me. Prior to surgical prep, he assured me that he would call later that night to check on me. He did not and has not responded to any of my 5 communications where I am describing what is going on. I thought that I had an appointment with another dentist, but I was told that no dentist wanted to step in to "cover" another dentist. As a result, I am left in pain and concerned about how to effectively care for an oral abscess!

I have had a frustrating experience transitioning to this practice…read more First, when I spoke to someone on the phone to schedule my initial appointment, I was told my first visit would include a cleaning. I arrive and then am asked to complete paperwork I already filled out online. Once I get to the back I am told we are waiting for the hygienist because they are backed up and then am told the cleaning won't happen and that I would need to come back in multiple weeks because the hygienist was going on vacation. I tell them that I was told by the person who set up my appointment that my cleaning would happen in the same appointment and then they say well they aren't the ones who schedule so can't be blamed. Y'all are the same practice so I would hope the right hand knows what the left is doing. Then when I go to pay and check out, I am told there is in fact an appointment the next day, which I take so I can get the cleaning that I was promised that day. During my initial appointment, I inquired about teeth whitening and was told that I should do my cleaning first and that it may be some time since the hygienist I was working with was preparing for time off. Again, when I went to pay and check out, additional charges were for my cleaning were added for toothpaste and mouth wash that I didn't ask for but made it seem like it was part of the process. Additionally, I was told there was in fact an appointment for teeth whitening the following week which I took. Now this is the real reason I am frustrated and why I am writing this lengthy review. I was told that it would take two hours for the process and it in fact took 3. The hygienist has multiple other things going on and took way longer between each 15 minute sessions to reset. She blamed me for not timing the bell and I in fact rang the bell but never got a response. During the whitening visit, I was supposed to get a whitening tray but they said they broke it and I would need to come back Monday morning (it was a Saturday) and it would be ready. So I come back Monday early afternoon on a work break and then am told they won't have it ready and that I should've called before coming even though the hygienist said it would be ready and I would need to pick it up. Once it is finally ready, I learn that I didn't even get all the materials I was supposed to get including a case and another hygienist apologized and gave me the orientation on how to use the whitening and soothing gel which should've been explained by my previous hygienist. Furthermore, its been two months since the cleaning. I feel like my teeth haven't whitened. The money and time and difficult process has made me question if it was worth the insurance and out of pocket expenses. Lastly, they asked for feedback and to share it with them before posting. I shared my feedback with no response so I am posting here. I will not be returning.
