Been coming here for about five years and now and have loved it! The office is always spotless. Fun music playing, very comfortable vibe. Wait times aren't ever really that long. You're also able to brush your teeth in the bathroom beforehand which is very nice and convenient. I've come here for a root canal, filling replacement, crown, and of course, cleaning. These are never really fun procedures, but the staff is absolutely incredible. These hygienists are very thorough and knowledgeable. Dr. Smith is always very friendly too. But the best highlight is definitely the staff. They're all amazing but a huge shoutout to Anita - always so incredible! Super nice, warm, welcoming. They're all exceptional. read more

Given that we're in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, I expected the office to have taken additional precautions to protect patient health, however I was disappointed to discover otherwise. I was initially impressed when they asked me the health-screen questions on the phone, and within 10 minutes of being brought to the chair, my temp was taken. However, there were 3 unmasked patients sitting in the waiting room (masks were hanging around necks) and EVERY dental chair that I could see in the back, was filled with patients. As Dr. Smith went room-to-room, wearing only a disposable (non N95) mask, and no additional PPE (N95 mask, goggles, face shield), I grew more uneasy. I would have felt much better had he and his staff worn more appropriate medical PPE such as face shields, goggles and N95 masks. Also, there were no protective, disposable coverings on the patient room computer keyboards, chairs, etc.. as suggested by the ADA/State of Wa Health Dept. I've referred many friends to this office, and now I'm concerned and feel obliged to warn them about the lack of attention to preventative measures to protect our health. Before making your next dental appointment, I suggest calling ahead to ask the details of the specific measures your dental office is taking to safeguard your health and prevent disease spread. Such visible shortcuts cast doubt on other standard hygiene practices, even if we weren't in the middle of a global pandemic. read more

I went here after purchasing one of their Groupon deals, and I've been going back ever since. The dental assistants are very nice, as is the front desk staff. The dentists can be a little rough, but that's alright. They respected the fact that I didn't want to buy anything other than the services I was there for (cleaning, etc). What I don't like is that they require you to have x-rays every year or two. Since I don't have dental insurance, this is extremely costly for me. They have been very gracious in letting me put it off. read more

The only reason that I am giving them 4/5 and not a full 5 stars is due to Dr Nartea. I find that he seems "checked-out" at work and that he doesn't have the same passion for his job that Dr. Baer does. Case in point, I was asking Dr. Nartea a question at the end of a cleaning appointment. Halfway through my question, he simply walked out of the room without saying anything to me. I looked at the hygienist and all she could do was shrug and try to answer my question the best she could. On the other hand, Dr Baer is a fantastic dentist who truly loves his work. He takes a great personal approach with each patient and is very thorough. Very kind and compassionate. I will stay his patient until he retires. read more

The hours that they offer for cleaning are fantastic for a working man such as myself. I've been to both dental hygienists and they do a great job. Went here today after a horrible experience with Peak Dental on 6th almost a year ago & I was so pleased that I told all of my friends! The hygienist, receptionist, and Dr were all very personable. Fast X-rays, exam, and open on Saturdays so I don't have to take off-Highly Recommend! I have not met Dr Smith yet. read more

Been going here over 25 years since I was 21 years old when I moved to Tacoma area .. Dr Baer retired and now it is a lot different and seems all about he money and the quality of dentistry the willingness to back there dental work and decisions is not there anymore . The only reason is not a 1 star is some of there hygentist are still there and they do a good job with cleanings still . There Fromt offixe staff ( or most of them ) seem like your at a car dealer waiting to be closed on ur " treatment plan dollar amount " tbey collect for the whole amount $1200 , $1100 dollars before the work is ever even done now ? Which is weird . Then if there work doesn't hold up They don't seem want to back up there work . If u pay $1200 for a crown and Build up and then 2 painful weeks later you need a root canal and have to see a specialist ? And it's now another $1200 dollars because tbey didnt do it when u had ur crown put on that seems out of place . Never had that happen with dr Baer .. and if there was issues he would usually take money off ur bill or fix it at no cost or if his work was not right he would make room for u in his schedule to get u in and fix it right away .. not now .. now tbey don't say sorry , tbey don't offer to try to fix there work , and they tell ur there booked up . Unreal I just got off the phone with Connie I think ihe was and she was as cold as ice . They are super nice when it's time to get u to pay but when u call with a problem then not so much .. terrible service and terrible attitudes .. be aware of the scores on here most are from Before Dr Baer sold this office recently read more

I can't say enough good things about Drs. Baer and Smith - they are extremely professional and care about what they do. They take the time to explain any procedure that needs to be done so that you are comfortable and know what is going to happen. I chipped my front tooth and was pretty freaked out about it. Dr. Baer got me in right away, told me exactly what he was going to do and now you can't even tell it was chipped! My family has been going here for years and I highly recommend them. read more

I started coming to Dentistry Northwest in May of this year. I hadn't been to the dentist in years because I was terrified and after the time had gone by I was terrified of judgement. If this sounds anything like you- you are not alone! Dr. Smith and every member of his staff are the most caring people I have ever worked with. Not one ounce of judgement from one person. The hygienists will go at your pace and give you breaks if you need it. I am extremely sensitive to injections and they always help me through that process and they really listen to me. Dr. Smith also referred me out to Dr. Manny La Rose for oral surgery and Dr. Knight for ortho. Those doctors are also extremely caring and excellent at what they do. I will never skip another appointment and I appreciate that they have helped me through the entire process. If you are having dental anxiety and researching Dr.'s then definitely give Dr. Karl Smith and his team a try! read more

AWFUL!! Dr. Baer unnecessarily ruined one of my upper FRONT teeth!! I had a beautiful smile. One tooth was just slightly shorter than the other one due to a small chip. He suggested a filling to even out the length better. I was hesitant at first then decided if it was going to improve my smile even more why not do it?? Well, I'll tell you why not!! He filed the surface of my natural tooth (NOT something he should have had to do) so that it looks totally crooked, like it overlaps my other front tooth, and so it doesn't MATCH my other front tooth!! I am devastated and would give anything to have my old smile back! Not to mention he told me well into the procedure never to bite into an apple again. Then my sister who is a dental hygienist tells me how hard and risky front fillings are, from color matching to the possibility for PERMANENT staining in the seam between the natural tooth and the composite. Why did Dr. Baer not tell me these things before I had this done??? I have a right to make an educated decision, but was not given the opportunity and would have NEVER gone through with the procedure had I been properly and rightfully informed!! I am so self-conscious of my teeth now when I used to be proud of it!!! My sister also pointed out how hard it will be to fix because even more of my natural tooth will need to be filed/drilled to add composite where Dr. Baer unnecessarily filed it away!!! I am devastated and depressed over this, and reminded every time I look in the mirror. Dr. Baer unnecessarily ruined my, what was a very nice, smile. read more
