I've been a patient at Dentistry on 116 for around 12 years, so this review is long overdue. I initially came to Dr. Helton with extreme dental anxiety due to an experience with a dentist as a child. Dr. Helton and her staff are gentle, kind, and patient, and I'm pleased to say my dental anxiety is a thing of the past! During all of the years I've been a patient, the office has always taken every precaution to exceed cleanliness and disinfection standards, and during this COVID-19 pandemic they've gone above and beyond to ensure the health and safety of their staff and patients. I had an appointment today and was beyond impressed with the care and detail taken as we all navigate through this pandemic. This practice is top-notch, and I highly recommend! read more

for the record dr helton is amazing dentist with a amazing facility, shes always treated me well and done great work on my teeth etc. her staff is great except for one of them. tuesday march 7 i had appointment to get my teeth looked at cause i just got my tooth pulled a couple of weeks and there suppose to see if its healing proper. i walk in for my 10:40 appointment and say hi to everybody and they say it back, the first thing i was asked is do i still have insurance, i said no. so i went and had a seat and waited for one of the dental worker to come see and check me out as they usually they do. i then over hear the receptionist say kenney has no insurance. i wait for about 5 mins and then (stephanie) opens the door that you normally come out when your done with your services and that was very weird to me and i know at that point its bullshit about happen. so she pulls me in this office i had a seat but she was still standing, she goes on to tell everything with teeth is okay and are you proceeding with braces(wtf). i wasn"t born yesterday but i thought when you go to the dentist especially when had major abstraction of the tooth a couple weeks they suppose to check it to make sure its healing prpoer. so lets go back to the beginning when i was seating and i over heard the receptionist say i didnt have any insurance. oh see whats going on you didnt wanna me cause i didnt have insurnace how you know i wasnt going to pay cash you just pre judge me probably cause i was black. the crazy thing about is i had 4,500 to pay in full for braces but treated the way i was treated by stephanie i will not spend my hard earned money at place that has people like her working there. once again dr helton is wonderful she just has one bad apple that cost her 4,500 dollars. read more

I came to Dr. Helton and Co when I came of age. The rest of my family sees her as well, and I will be so disappointed if ever have to find another dentist! The staff is friendly and within a bit they will know who you are as an individual. Their services are grade A and you couldn't ask for better. I definitely recommend them. Bonus--none of the criticism or child treatment from hygienists or the Dr if your smile is less than stellar. read more

We have gone To Dentistry on 116th for 10 years. We were one of the first patients after they opened. I really like Dr. Helton, but I am not sure what happened, but we have been unhappy the last few years. Maybe the practice is too big now. It's impossible to get an appointment now. I also don't like that you pay at the chair. You don't see a copy of the bill. They want you to pay and email it to you. Which is okay until you pass 30 days and your bill will no longer open being past 30 days. This is why I like paper. I also like to be able to see what I am paying for before handing over my credit card. Our hygienist is always pushing things on us and I don't like that. I can only mention so many times we don't have plans to switch electric toothbrushes since I bought the last one they wanted me to get. I go 3 times a year for a cleaning and it just gets old. I know I mentioned switching to a new hygienist and Stephanie acted like they don't do that. Twice my husband brought home $20 prescription toothpaste. He said the hygienist told him he should use it and he both times has assumed they were giving it to him. When you never see your bill I guess that is what happens. But we have prescription coverage. I am pretty sure most people do. I called and talked to the office manger Stephanie and said said they don't bill health insurance. I understand that, but for the future I needed them to write a prescription so we can get it from Kroger for $4. that is a huge difference. But Stephanie told me they do not write prescriptions. I am quite shocked by that. I asked for her to figure out who gave him the $20 toothpaste and if in fact the dentist wanted him to use it then that was fine, but he only mentioned the hygienist gave it to him. I believe the hygienist can't write prescription. I also think that if you are selling a $20 bottle of toothpaste that fact needs to be told to the patient and not just slipped in a bag. We also get the fluoride so do owe more and I am not sure how twice this hygienist was able to slip in that extra onto the bill, but she did. If he needs it then we will buy it, but it needs to come from the pharmacy. A week has gone by and I never heard back from Stephanie or Dr. Helton. I also don't like they don't want to give you anything to take home. Everyone needs to floss more, me included. But actually getting floss or toothpaste to go home is hard. My husband only had the $20 prescription and a toothbrush. So guess he doesn't need to floss. I usually beg for floss and get one. But this is really weird. I surveyed 50 or so people at a Super Bowl Party and everyone is always sent home with a bag of stuff. So not sure why it is now not a thing at this office. read more

Never seem to have appointments past 10am so makes it hard for scheduling outside of work hours. Caused lots of missed appointments. Also very unforgiving if you're any sort of time late 5-10 minutes they will cancel your appointment. Also charging a $15 COVID premium for every appointment is seemingly wild to me. read more

I saw Dr. Helton and her staff at Dentistry on 116 after having received subpar service from another Dental provider. Dr. Helton and her assistant were very professional and quickly discovered the cause of my excruciating pain following a botched filling from a different provider. Dr. Helton removed the prior filing and inserted a new filing in a painless, professional, time-efficient, and safe way. I felt less pain one hour after leaving Dr. Helton's office than 13 days after the original fillings. The BEST dentist I've ever had. My son and I have been receiving our dental services from DENTISTRY ON 116 since he was a little guy! He will be 21yrs old this year. My son still LOVES going! I have been going to Dr. Helton for years. I love walking into the office, and the staff always take time and ask how I am. Today, I asked for a statement of what was done and it was sent to my e mail without any hesitation. Having dentist anxieties, Dr Helton always tells me what is happening, and what she is doing to ease my tension. I appreciate when they offer different ideas on brushing, flossing, or technology knowing I have the options. Never pushy! I highly recommend this office. Love my dentist and the staff!!! read more

This dentist sold my wife a partial, and food got inside it whenever she ate. She complained, and the dentist actually said "maybe you should take it out when you eat". Obviously this dentist did not understand the purpose of this device. This dentist was disrespectful and dismissive with my wife. read more

Dr. Helton and her staff combine strong professionalism with genuine cordiality. In that atmosphere, I've always felt that their primary concern was me. Their efficient use of communications software for scheduling and sending notices was an additional showing of concern - they never had to devote so much time to keeping records or sending messages that they lost sight of me. That has been especially true during the restrictions related to the COVID-19 virus. Dr. Helton's office has sent regular updates (not so many that they become a pest; just the right pace to keep all of her patients up-to-date about limitations on access to the office). The same was true for the hygienists. The software gave them easy access to my record, which always included comprehensive notes from previous visits. I liked the result - the hygienist had a real investment in being a part of a team providing dental care. In addition, the result seemed to be a genuine collaboration between Dr. Helton and each hygienist - I like that evidence of Dr. Helton's respect for the professionalism of her staff. All that made Dr. Helton's office very different from other places where I've had the sense that the technology had taken over (for example, when trying to call an office and reaching only a voice that tells you to listen carefully because the options have changed). In Dr. Helton's office, I always sensed that the technology freed them from repetitive, tedious tasks so that they could pay attention to me. Even with all the efficiency, I have never felt that questions were unwelcome - I could ask about anything from insurance coverage to the reasons for any particular treatment. Again, the independence given each hygienist allowed for an immediate answer rather than having to work my way through various staff members. The openness to questions was especially helpful given Dr. Helton's strong emphasis on preventative measures. All together I had a real sense that we were working together to keep my teeth and everything around them in the best of health. read more

I have gone to this practice many times only to be continually disappointed. My previous dentist said I had no cavities. This practice filled almost every one of my teeth claiming I had extensive decay. The same story was given to a nurse who worked for me (who was smart enough to change dentists)and my other relatives. How could we all need almost every tooth drilled and filled? Beware, they make their own 3D crowns while you wait, but the crown is not smooth and it feels like your teeth need to be brushed! The dentist does not thoroughly (if at all) check the dental technician's work- so don't be surprised if your filling is rough enough to cut your tooth or if it falls out a month later. When I complained about the technician who did not seem confident in her work, at the time of my visit, I was admonished. When my filling fell out and I again said it seemed like the person who filled my tooth was struggling- they told me she was let go. The technicians have on the job training ONLY and there is little to no oversight of their work. One filling cut my tongue, once the anesthesia wore off. The dentist should have noticed this very sharp extrusion from the filling material before I left the chair. I do not recommend this dental practice. If you have any concern at all, they will simply tell you to find another dentist - so I did! read more

My family has been going to Dentistry on 116 for over a year. The moment you walk in you are greeted by the receptionist. The wait is never long, the equipment is state of the art. The hygienists are top notch and friendly. One of the cleanest offices I have been in. Dr. Helton is not only a great dentist, she is gentle, caring and only recommends what needs to be done.
