I was referred to Denzil by my child's piano teacher. Embarrassingly enough, my Yamaha upright of 7 years has never been tuned. I was not able to schedule with Denzil himself since he was unavailable however, James came out and did a fantastic job of taking care of my piano. (He didn't even judge me for going this long with an untuned piano! lol) I originally scheduled for a regular tuning however, my piano did need a pitch correction as well. I was more than happy to pay the extra cost and relieved that James was able to perform that service in the allotted appointment time. It would've been a bummer to reschedule since I had to make sure there was no background noise and the house was completely silent. (Not easy for a large family with kids & dogs!) I have an Apollo full size upright piano. This is my first time having the piano tuning service by Denzil's. The gentleman was on time. He answers my questions very patiently. One of my questions was about the peeling condition in the parts that received the hammering then strike the strings. He told me not to worry about it at this point. I care about my pianos. When I first moved out on my own, many years ago, I purchased a piano before buying bed, couch or pretty much anything else. At that time I tried different piano tuners based on friends' recommendations. I was surprised that the cost of the tuning didn't seem to have much to do with the quality of the work or knowledge of pianos. I have perfect pitch; when a piano isn't tuned right, it may just grate on my nerves - or it may make the piano almost unplayable for me when the wrong tone comes out as I hit the correct key. But I've never had to worry about that with Denzil. He's been tuning my pianos now for about two decades, and I'm hoping he never retires. Denzil tunes the pianos quickly, accurately, and for a very fair price. He knows pianos and the industry, one time telling me about a manufacturer's offer to upgrade my piano for a minimal cost due to a change in materials - something I would never have known about if it weren't for Denzil. He gives me tips and answers questions about how to better maintain my piano, has helped me look for new pianos, and to understand better how to evaluate a potential purchase. Whenever I'm there he's always arrived promptly at the designated time and is easy to talk with. Couldn't be a nicer person to have tune your piano. And you can SO trust him. I've been leaving the key for Denzil now for, well, probably nearly two decades. I leave a check, and when I return I find a carefully locked home, a receipt, and a piano beautifully in tune again. A couple of times I forgot to leave the check or he couldn't find it, and he just tuned it for me anyhow, knowing a check would arrive in the mail. Denzil came highly recommended by my mother in law who runs a large multi-piano music school. I am spoiled from using many different Piano Sample Libraries and Soft Synths that can change tuning and temper at the click of a mouse (Pianoteq, TruePianos, Ivory, Soundiron Emotional Piano, Sampletekk etc. ) but still there's nothing like the real thing. A couple years ago I purchased an old upright that has great quality sound but was badly out of tune and sounded like mud with any close piano voicings.
