I was supposed to go hiking but the sun will set by the time I get there so they are cunts for ruining that. Ruined my day. After I waited for 30 minutes for my breakfast sandwich I am disgusted to find my fucking $20 breakfast sandwiches don't have BACON OR CHEESE OR EGG. Came here for a quick lunch and left very satisfied. Ordered the #4 turkey sandwich and it came out in about 5 mins - though I noticed that some other people seemed to be waiting a while longer for their orders. In any event, the turkey on my sandwich was fresh and the arugula was crisp - but just a bit too much sauce. Very well-curated market, with a great selection of gourmet items and drinks, plus amazing coffees and pastries and made-to-order sandwiches. The market is one of those places with everything fancy, including inspiringly mysterious condiments--lots of hot sauces and oils to fancy up just about anything you make at home. Depanneur is Williamsburg's first dedicated, comprehensive snack store for Euro food fetishists. Not only does Depanneur boast a full coffee bar, sandwich deli and Ceci Cela pastries (best pain au chocolat in Brooklyn)--but it also carries daily lifestyle essentials, from tampons, to 3 different kinds of currywurst ketchup. If you travel across the Atlantic often--especially to the UK or Deutschland--you'll recognize what you thought was your "special" obscure snack at Depanneur. You know: The snacks you usually grab from local grocery aisles, and then stuff inside your suitcase for a self-congratulatory jaunt through return customs. Still getting over the fact that I just grabbed up Katje yogurt gummies, Flake bars, British elderflower soda, Alpine lemonade and Glühwein mix one block from my Brooklyn abode (with nary a boarding pass or brutal currency exchange). This place will definitely be my new addiction. Right around the corner from my apartment! The staff is so friendly and informative. I thought it was a British or Germany grocery store, but it is a little bit of everything, including Italian and Norwegian and so on. I guess a taste around the world? Their sandwiches are fresh and made to order. Different types of cheese and meats line their fridge. They have elderflower soda, black currant, and a few kombucha flavors I never even heard of! Stopped by for a quick coffee and breakfast yesterday morning. Enjoyed an almond milk mocha and an egg and cheese croissant. I thought the coffee was very good - very fresh, bold flavor, and perfectly sweetened mocha. Maybe I was too naive, but the American in me was expecting a warm egg and cheese croissant sandwich. Instead I got a semi-warm croissant with a room temp cut boiled egg and sliced cold cheese. Maybe this is how they do it but would have liked a little warning! Much more than a depanneur (literally "help out", used in Canada for corner store). My girlfriend and I had to take this place into account when we moved out. I'm glad we ended only a couple of blocks away and we don't need anything else. Completely missed this place for months even though I walk by it all the time. I wrote it off as another deli but now that I've been inside, I'm hooked. The sandwiches are out of this world and they post daily specials on Facebook so ordering is easy. A must try is the grilled cheese and prosciutto with fig jam. One of my favorite coffee / sandwich / pastry shops with the best gluten free and vegan options

A great place for a sandwich or a coffee and pastry, but most other items in the store are crazy expensive. Service can be really slow. If you want to pop in to get a sandwich, prepare to stand in line to wait, even if you've already ordered and paid for it through seamless. They used to have a great system with two cash registers so they could process customers quickly, but that's been abandoned. Now there can be 2 people in the store and 5 people behind the counter, and you still have to get somebody's attention to ask whether one of those sandwiches waiting to be picked up belongs to you. I don't understand the point of seamless if it makes the experience harder and more frustrating. read more

I love specialty stores that serve delicious food and have wide selections. The local products are a nice Brooklyn touch. I rode my Citi bike here this summer and parked directly across the street. That was a nice bonus. There are great sandwiches made to order, charcuterie, cheeses, coffees, cookbooks, and cleaning products. Are you that cheap that you wont pay e real web designer instead of using a lightroom template? While walking around the neighborhood, we stumbled upon this shop and decided to go on in. We had already eaten so I unfortunately didn't get to try any of their sandwiches, but we still wandered around and looked at all the grocery items. The store is clean and well organized and packed with unique gourmet food. The employee was very friendly and didn't mind us browsing for a bit. We ended up buying some specialty popcorn and jams that were DELICIOUS. When I'm back in the area again, I'll definitely pop in for lunch! read more

This would be a 5 because their food is always amazing both in store and for delivery and typically the delivery shows up in a timely manner. But my Opinion is soured a bit if you plan on getting anything for dinner go early - they start closing down way before 8:30 and if you get there even around 8:10-8:15 for Something as simple as cheeze and tomato on a baguette "they can't" the people at the counter will say "they stopped making sandwiches a while ago because we close in like 5 minutes" which is ok but then say we close st 8:15. read more

I don't go here that often but I can recount 3 times now where I've ordered a sandwich ..... watched someone walk in after me by several minutes ..... order the same exact sandwich I did.... and get their food and leave before me after waiting like 20 minutes. This place has great sandwiches-- but today I had a negative experience with the delivery service. I just had surgery and can only eat liquids, so we ordered soup from Depanneur. The entire purpose of the order was for the soup. They waited an hour after ordering to let us know that they had "just" sold out of the soup, and then did not offer a discount or a refund. The food here is good, but more courteous customer service would be much appreciated. Probably won't be ordering from here again. read more

But the sandwich was very tasty and flavorful and the only reason why I gave it 3 stars is because, although, I didn't have to wait long for the sandwich because it was already made in advanced but the bread is too tough, like chewing and pulling on rawhide. Denture wearers beware! Totally skeptical of a 10 dollar sandwich, I went with it for convenience sake (and a consistent crowd typically means something is going right). When I tell you this was the best f'ing turkey sandwich I've ever had, I mean it. It was definitely a ten dollar sandwich. Juicy super thinly sliced shaved turkey, creamy avocado, sharp and nutty manchego, sweet peppadew peppers, peppery arugula and tart pickled shallots, all on a toothy multigrain. An amazing combo of flavors and textures. I told anyone who would listen. It's actually worth the ten I paid. Can't wait to come back to Brooklyn and try the others. tl;dr- great food but for the price, you need to value taste over speed and polite staff. Depanneur would get 5 stars if the review criteria were limited to the quality of selection and taste of its food. The sandwiches are really great and the variety of fine grocery items is solid. However, Depanneur loses one star because the staff is pretty unfriendly. Sometimes it's to the point where you might think to apologize to the person taking your order for having inconvenienced him/her. Definitely uncomfortable and basically has left ordering from Depanneur only through Seamless. The other lost star is a result of the speed - really, the lack of speed. An order for a single cold sandwich placed at their counter can take 15-20 mins after 2 pm. I can't imagine what the 12-2 wait time is like. read more

Cons: The cashiers (outside of the people mentioned above) are not pleasant. Maybe going 5 days a week for the past 3 weeks may not be enough to remember a face (except for the above mentioned whom I've only encountered twice) but, there is little to no engagement or greeting, I should say. "I'll take the next guest" is the usual line followed by repeating and correcting your order. Complaint: I was charged for a mocha ($5.00) when I ordered a latte (4.00, extra for caramel flavoring) and the cashier didn't seem to understand me.
