I love it. It's like a great little dive bar with local Southern hospitality. I may or may not have gifted the proprietors with a bottle of homemade kahlua at Xmas when I was picking up a couple o' growlers. Bocci ball on the patio. I thought bocce ball was that game at the fair where you roll a ball up a ramp into hoop circles? Anyhow, glad to see a lot of the best local restaurants stocking DS beers. They have some seasonal beers sometimes. One of the coolest places in our cool, queer, little town. Seasonal beers for the adventurous. There's a ginger tinted one this summer...Crazy Train. It was good for a taste for me. Taste is a matter of taste. Ride the Rail is a Belgian...tasty. The sweeter Eurail Gold is still my fave. Looks like live music happens here sometimes. Microbrews are a great thing about living in these times. Much better than that dreary Medieval period. All those rats and that damned plague and what not. Anyhow, they don't stay open all night so plan accordingly. read more

Once one of the premier Tri Cities breweries (mainly because it was one of the first) is really showing it's age. As of last count, there are 15 other (mostly new) Tri Cities breweries and easily as many tap houses. Sadly I think DS may actually be toward the back of the pack now. Remember how things seemed so much bigger when you were a kid, yet when you go back and revisit them, you realize how tiny they actually were? This is the exact feeling I got when (re)attending this place. The showroom is super tiny and a bit awkward in design. The door leading outside is simply a barn like push door. Need to go to the bathroom? You have to walk around the building and go back in the front door again. No inside tables...that I know of. Maybe there are some upstairs...there's nowhere for one that I could see in the main room. Outside you have a few well worn metal seats around heaters and a handful of pick nick tables under a canopy. And that's it. And of course that's fine, but this puts them pretty much at the back of the pack of every other bar/taproom in this area. And the beer? Hard to say. I only tried one this time. It was their swartzbier. It was fair to decent. Why only one you ask? No more flights. No more glasses. Yes, a $5 beer served lukewarm in a plastic cup. Not sure if they even still have weekend bands, but I have to assume not...I never see anything listed here in the Loafer or anywhere else. Even if they did, they'd have to have a regional A-list act for me to feel a need to come back. Don't get me wrong, if you are really close by and want somewhere quiet to catch up with a friend you haven't seen in years, this will work fine for that. However, I can think of 15-30 reasons to go elsewhere. For example, Bristol has no less than 10 bars/breweries/taprooms within walking distance of each other. Kingsport has three breweries that you can see while standing in one spot. Yes, DS is simply out of it's element now. read more

Nice selection of true craft brews. Tried the 2 lagers and the Eurail lager was the fav. Many IPAs too for hoppy fans. Bocce in clay by the tracks and has a great down to earth rustic vibe like the joints in Austin. Good music too. We also tried the wood fired pizzas onsite food truck by Fuoco Vita (formerly Fire in the Hole). They said they are here permanently. The only downside is that they are open till 9pm and closed early in the week. read more

My wife and I really can't say anything negative about Depot Street Brewing because every single time we have visited, each experience has been wonderful. First, the beer. My wife and I really like most of the beer offered and there is a decent selection! The staff gladly let us try each beer before purchase which is a huge plus. It's nice knowing you can sample a small amount before buying a pint! 2nd, the staff. DSB staff have always been friendly, making us feel very welcome whenever we arrive and during our entire visit. Much respect for the staff! 3rd, the food. Who knew you could get such awesome food...from a tuck?! So far, the food trucks we have eaten from have been amazing! Even if you're not hungry whenever you arrive, you probably will be before you leave...the smells will drive you nuts! 4th, the atmosphere. Sitting outside at this rustic little brewery in a country setting with good food, good beer and good friends...it's a very relaxing experience and has been for us every time we've visited. There are little "stoves" outside for fires to keep warm whenever it's cool outside. If it's raining outside, there is a covered shed (no walls) to sit under for keeping dry. My wife and I love visiting DSB because, for us, it's the best brewery we've found so far as a place to really unwind concerning the aforementioned beer, staff, food and atmosphere. Living in the Pacific Northwest, I am accustomed to small microbreweries. It is evident that these folks are trying real hard. They succeed on several levels, and falll short on a couple. First the beer. I would have liked to take a taste before buying a pint, but that wasn't an option. Every craft beer has a different taste so allowing a taste before a purchase just makes plain sense. The beer I chose was cold and refreshing, if a little bitter. My husband ordered their flight and he was impressed by the pours he selected. It wasn't overly crowded when we went it so we had our pick of the tables outside. The metal chairs could stand come cushions. All in all it is a quaint microbrewery with a decent beer. read more

One of the best breweries I've ever visited. Depot street has awesome beer and an awesome environment. Any time my family is in town I take them here. The brewery is feet away from a train track and has a very homey feel. There are couches, fireplaces, and outdoor lighting to enjoy your time and relax. read more

I really like their beer! I really dislike the staff at the brewery. It was my first time to the brewery but not my first time trying their beer. The dark haired lady working that day was short with her answers and demanding with her requests. Just not welcoming or friendly at all and my buddy and I were the only ones there. You think they would be happy to have customers. No tasting, not even a tiny half once. As stated, I have had there beer before but could not remember which one I liked. You have to pay for a pint or get three other beers you don't want in a flight. I've never encountered an establishment that didn't offer a taste, especially the brewery!! I will think twice before buying their beer and will NOT return to the brewery. read more

We love Depot Street! It's a great place to grab a beer on a sunny Saturday afternoon. Lots of picnic tables in the back and a really nice bocce ball court. I LOVE this place. Great beer selection. Definitely laid back atmosphere. Outdoor fireplace makes it a good cold weather outdoor venue. I would like to be able to sample the beers before choosing a pint, but the bartender said no. Will only sell you a 5 ounce taste. Looks like there could be a 2 sample limit or some other solution to no tasting before buying. My only complaint. We live an hour away, and we still try to come here as much as possible. I really want to like Depot Street, given it's in an adorable small town with absolutely no reason to loiter in except this brewery (and Tennessee Hills Distillery, which is highly recommended!). My first time here I was bluntly told that they give No Tasters (!). Been forced to return in a group of others since then but haven't dared ask if this has changed. This is not only an archaic concept in 2017, but given the highly variable quality of their beers this really should be a necessity. The inside space feels more like a storage area inside a 7-Up factory than small brewery chic. The outdoor space is cool. Beers generally don't live up to current standards of quality in the industry. That said, they occasionally make a fantastic beer or two, but with the "no samples" pseudopolicy this makes ordering a beer more like rolling at the craps table than knowing you'll enjoy the product you paid for. If this changed, it would be a solid 3 star venue. read more

I live in Jonesborough so I want to like the beer.. I really, really do... but it just isn't good. The Freight Hopper IPA is probably their best (obviously an opinion), but their new "supper hoppy Velicipee" (or whatever it's called) was truly disappointing.. Some talented brewers work there... so I am not sure why the beers are so throttled... This could be a winner.. should be a winner... but it's not.. .Honestly, only the folks who hang out there would give it more than 2 stars... there are SO MANY better breweries around if you're willing to drive. Heck, just run to JC and go to Atlantic Ale House... it's not a brewery, but they sell better beers there... 3-4 stars for the atmosphere.. 1 star for the actual beer... read more
