We just moved to the area and visited Label for the second time last night, and it has quickly become one of our favorite restaurants in Johnson City. I'm honestly surprised it doesn't have a full five-star rating. The food is excellent--creative, high-quality gastropub fare that's easily some of the best we've had in the area. As newcomers, one of the biggest adjustments has been finding great restaurants, and Label has definitely filled that gap. We had a large group, and the service was outstanding from start to finish. Everyone's meal came out great, and not a single person left disappointed. To top it all off, the desserts were phenomenal and the perfect ending to a great meal. If you're looking for one of the best dining experiences in Johnson City, Label is absolutely worth a visit. We'll definitely be back! read more

I ordered the Dragon Roll and was honestly pretty shocked when I saw how tiny it was. I'm used to sushi rolls being 2-3 times this size for what we're paying here, so the portion was very disappointing. Then there was an issue when I went to pay. The lady told me she didn't have change, and when I pulled out some coins, I assumed she meant she didn't have change in coins. I ended up giving her cash and change, and she said thank you. I then asked, "Can I get my change back?" because I was supposed to receive about $5 back. Apparently, she had assumed I was giving her a $5 tip on a $15 takeout order. To be clear, I was not. I understand tipping when someone is providing a service, but this was a takeout order--I walked in, picked up my food, and left. There was no table service or anything beyond handing me my order. She did have to go to the back to get my change and brought it back to me in $1 bills. The whole situation was just awkward and frustrating. The potstickers were pretty good, but the crab ragoons were damn near excellent. My wife got a sushi roll, couldn't remember which one but we aren't too keen on sushi rolls with cream cheese inside and it was a lil fishy, still not too bad. Recently visited Label for the first time in years and the experience didn't disappoint. Love that they have sushi options along with steaks, pastas, salads, and sandwiches. On this occasion I had a spicy tuna roll, which is my go to. We also ordered Firecracker Shrimp and Crab Rangoon for the table. The sushi and crab Rangoon were both great and I would definitely get again. The shrimp was ok but I've had better at different restaurants. For my entree I ordered the Chef's Pasta and opted for the Cajun cream sauce with blackened salmon. The pasta was cooked perfectly and the sauce and salmon made it the perfect combo. Would definitely get this entree again. The service was great and our drinks never ran dry. Our waitress made several suggestions for the table and was super attentive and kind. Very casual and nice place to dine and enjoy while in Downtown Johnson City! Our drinks were served quickly and food came out fast, hot and delicious. We had a couple of friends visiting us from RI so I decided to make reservations for dinner last night. Our company commented on how nice the restaurant is and the 4 of us were seated at a large booth which gave us plenty of room. We were promptly greeted by Bree, who brought us waters and took our drink order. We ordered the spinach dip which everyone devoured. On to dinner...I have been here several times and asked Bree to help me decide between the Chef's pasta or the buttermilk chicken. She recommended the pasta if I was hoping to have leftovers. I had it with the Cajun cream sauce and blackened salmon. Absolutely delicious!!!! The other dishes were blackend salmon with Pomodoro sauce and the sea bass. Ordered a side of brussel sprouts and garlic parm fries for the table to share. Bree was outstanding and our meals were all delicious. This was the worst $100 I've spent on a meal in my life. We had the fried pickles for an appetizer and they were very good, although I was charged for extra ranch, which I thought was absurd. I ordered the filet with mashed potatoes and corn. And my sister had the same but with asparagus instead of potatoes. The steak had ZERO flavor, the mashed potatoes were dry and bland. The asparagus was mushy. The corn was good. This was my first and last time at this restaurant. Our server was very good, pleasant and friendly. The place appeared to be nice and clean. This place is amazing. Have been here before and I had ordered a burger, I just remember it was exceptional with cheese and bacon. This was a couple years ago now but I still recall how flavorsome it was. I also had the killer yummy Brussel sprouts with a great wine selection (Caymus On the menu!) Tonight I ordered the sea bass, Brussels again and a Side of risotto! Absolutely delicious. Had a red blend to accompany the combo, Conundrum. Not common that a Bar & Grill has a good wine selection, where here a lot to choose from. I wasn't forced to order a beer which was nice. Although I'm sure their beer is just as good. First night in Johnson City and wanted to find a local spot for dinner. Label proved to be an excellent decision. As a party of 1, I skipped an appetizer but did get a side salad with my entree. It was a very good salad with balsamic vinaigrette. I asked about the bourbon vinaigrette and the face my server made didn't sell me on it. For my entree I got the pork chop with the maple Brussel sprouts and truffle Mac & cheese. This entree would cost much more than it did, if I were at home in Florida. It's not often that I find myself concentrating eating the sides more than the protein. The maple Brussel sprouts were so good. And let's face it, many restaurant macaroni & cheese is subpar. This one was very good. The pork chop was cooked perfectly. While I enjoyed the strawberry jalapeño bacon jam, it was sweeter than most bacon jams (yes I know it has strawberry) so reminded me more of a bbq sauce, but a very good bbq sauce for sure. I was too full to try dessert. The old fashioned I had, was a solid one. I've had better, I've had worse. I will definitely come back here if in the area and would not hesitate to recommend it. read more

My boyfriend ordered a steak, which was unfortunately very fatty and disappointing. The rest of the food was okay, but the standout for me, as always, was the sweet potato waffle fries--they're consistently delicious! Disappointed. I was looking for Southern-fried chicken, as I always do when traveling in the south from my home in California, and the "buttermilk-fried chicken" sounded like what I was after. But this wasn't it. I got two pieces of boneless chicken, both white meat - OK, but not the authentic Southern feel of pan-fried white and dark chicken pieces. One of the two pieces was about 1/4" thick, so it was tough after frying. There was little seasoning, so not much flavor - I added a generous amount of salt and dipped in the BBQ aioli sauce just to add interest. The garlic fries weren't crisp or hot when served, and I hardly tasted the garlic seasoning. I left about 2/3 of them on the plate. The restaurant is an old bar and grill in downtown Johnson City. Parking is limited - I had to park in a lot 1.5 blocks away from and walk. If back in town, I might try Label another time to see if other menu items are better. But I won't be ordering the chicken. read more

I usually love this place a lot! The vibes are good and the food is good. A few complaints one, about 90% of the time the staff is so rude and unwelcoming. I do love the times that I go and the staff is so friendly and fun. Which is very rare. On another note and this may sound silly but I decided to order a glass of prosecco and it came out in a white wine glass. I wasn't upset until I noticed the table next to me also order prosecco and receive their drink in the correct glass (a flute). I of course know this sounds silly but I would suggest for Label to either order more flute glasses or just hand out all the same glasses to each and every guest. Whoo Hoo! What a find. We started out with spinach dip. It came out piping hot the cheese was just oozing all over the top. Entrees included pork chop with corn and Mac and cheese, shrimp and grits, grilled salmon with grits and grilled asparagus, and Sea Bass with risotto and carrots. We also got a side of Brussels sprouts. Pork chop cooked well the jalapeño strawberry bacon relish was delish and a great accompaniment. The bacon sweet corn was sweet and creamy with a full depth of flavor. The mac and cheese was creamy. Salmon the cheese grits were good and the asparagus were cooked nicely. Sea Bass with cream sauce was flavorful. The risotto was basic and could have used some other flavor. The maple carrots were tasty not oozing with maple but definitely good. My opinion the shrimp and grits was the show stopper. The Cajun cream sauce is absolutely wonderful. It has so much flavor and the creaminess blend well with the grits and offers a really nice base for the shrimp. Dessert was drunken cheesecake. The blackberry sauce was generously applied to the huge wedge of cheesecake. It was not too sweet but a perfect blend. Drinks Bloody Mary as spicy and the toppers enhanced the flavor. Brown ale beer was smooth. Our server Alli was very attentive. She listened and paid attention. The restaurant was very clean and has a lot of woodwork. The vibe was relaxed. This place came highly recommended by their sister restaurant Southern Craft! I had just enough time for lunch before heading to the airport. The bartender at SC said that Label had an amazing bourbon selection so I had to check it out. First off, I had to try the Colonel EH Taylor since I hadn't had it before. It was super smooth and delicious. Then the bartender pointed out a special bottle of Blanton's that I'd never seen before - game on! It was also delicious! I ordered the goat cheese burger form my lunch. The fries were incredible and the assembled burger was amazing except for the patty - it resembled a frozen patty that comes in a 30-pack. It still tasted good but not what I'd expect for this restaurant. Overall, Label was a great experience and the service was above and beyond. When I was visiting my bf, we went to Label based off of a recommendation and all of the awards they've received. My intention was to get my sushi cravings satisfied, but my boyfriend ordered the lamb chops and we split the spinach dip for our app. The spinach dip came out piping hot with tricolor tortilla chips. The dip itself was a bit bland, but the thick layer of cheese on top was really nice. My boyfriend loved the lamb, as it was tender and seasoned well. As for the sushi, it wasn't very good. The fish they used was definitely frozen and old. I also asked for a side of spicy mayo for my roll, but the chef put the sauce underneath my roll for some reason... not ideal if you were to take unfinished food to go. My stomach started hurting not even 30 minutes after having lunch here and I was visiting the toilet frequently for the remainder of the day. For a business that's received awards for "best sushi", I was expecting a lot better than it was. The fish selection for sashimi and nigiri was just sad... the most you can really get was probably salmon, tuna, and yellowtail. Please DO NOT eat their sushi items that contain raw fish! After this experience, I've learned to only trust Asian owned businesses for sushi. Overall, the service was great but it seems like they're trying to do too much here and should just stick to American foods. read more

We loved so much about Label. The decor was fun. The music was great and the right volume. The staff was ver accomidating. Now let's get to the food. I brought my wife here for our anniversary, and everything was perfect. I had the Firecracker shrimp ( from the appetizer menu) and a house salad. There was enough to bring some back home. My wife had the crab rangoons and potstickers, and both were excellent. The waiter we had never let our drinks runout, quick service, and very friendly. Sadly, I don't remember his name. The manager came by the table to ask how everything was. I told him it was great and he went and brought back a card for an appetizer for our next visit. We stopped by on a Thursday evening. I made a reservation because we have tried to dine here before and were turned away. So glad we stopped by ! We had a most delicious (drunken goat) burger. The flavors went together just right. Gotta love TN and their happy hour time. We had 22 oz beers for only $5. We also had a sushi roll for an appetizer and crab Rangoon. Hubby especially liked the crab Rangoon. Service was friendly and helpful. Can't wait to stop by again when we are visiting our son and his wife in Kingsport.
