Not the best of the breweries in the area. The bartender also wasn't very knowledgeable. She couldn't really answer questions I had and then someone next to me asked if they had any porters and she asked "is that a beer?" Beer was just ok. We were exploring East Tennessee and the Tennessee Wine Trail and decided to stop in at this location to try something of their brews after doing a tasting at their Ice House location. All the brews we sampled were great. Ample seating inside with tvs to watch whatever game might be on. And if you're hungry, chances are there's a food truck parked outside. For anyone traveling through the area, I highly recommend a stop. read more

We were so impressed with the distillery we visited in Jonesborough, we decided to check out their Brewstillery in Johnson City. There is a nice outdoor seating area but it was way too cold on this visit. It looks like a great place to hang out in warmer seasons. Outside, they also had what appears to be their own food truck, the Whiskey Kitchen. We did not check this out but it did look like someone was inside. Inside they have a large bar which takes up the center of the room. There are 5 TV's which were playing various sporting events. It was very busy since it was a Friday night, but we found two seats at the bar. The bar top appears to be made of hammered copper which is a really cool touch. We looked over the drink menu and I scoped out the wall for the list of beers on draft. We felt they have both an extensive menu of drinks and draft beers. My wife decided to try the pineapple colada featuring their pineapple upside down cake rum which we had sampled earlier at the distillery and purchased for a dear family friend. I chose the Hawaiian Shirt IPA. They also had some discounted swag which my wife checked out but did not purchase. We also decided to buy a bottle of whiskey to give to her father for his upcoming birthday. Overall, both locations were a great experience that we would highly recommend to others. One suggestion at the brewstillery, we noticed they appear to only have two single restrooms which constantly had a stream of people waiting to use the restrooms and it seems far too limited for the seating capacity of the building. No food. The saving grace is a really nice copper bar top. I'm mad about service at this location and I'm no happier about the service at the Bristol location. I got a Hawaiian Shirt IPA here in JC. Visited from DC and was surprised by this gem. More of a laid back vibe and a bit of the "before going out" crowd, this TN Hills Brewstillery has good beers and actually fantastic cocktails. Servers are friendly and know their stuff. The Big Honey Blonde, Hawaiian Shirt IPA, and Sunrise in the Hills were fantastic beers, brewed on site. The Old Fashioned and Tennessee Mule were made with their signature Whiskey. The beers and cocktails were great. Didn't get a chance to check out the kitchen that is parked in the parking lot, but it looked good. Crowd overall had a good vibe. Definitely worth a visit. read more

This is their second (and newer) location. Came on a Friday night and the tasting room was closed. No worries because the bar is where all the action is. We started off with cocktails and ended with a flight. Come inside and sit at a high top table or the three sided bar. Scan the QR Code for their menu of drinks and prices. Quick friendly service. You can try before you buy which is great. This was our first time to the brewstillery. It sells their beers brewed on location as well as what's made at their Jonesborough location. We tried a couple cocktails made with their delicious lemon drop. Both were great. We enjoyed a flight of four of their brews. We both loved the Peach Cream Ale. It tastes like a IBC Cream Soda with peaches! Getting there is a bit difficult as all the side roads leading to it are under construction. Just drive slowly and avoid the pot holes. Plenty of parking available in their parking lot. Also there was a food truck. Not sure if that's always there or not. read more

Stopped by to sample the local whiskey and what a great experience. They have multiple offerings and not just whiskey. Gorgeous bar and excellent music! If you are looking for apparel or other retail items check out the Jonesborough location. The 90 proof Calhoun's is really smooth. Service was excellent. Cassidy was friendly and very helpful. We did the tasting room before the bar. Great service , very knowledgeable on the many many different flavors and liquor. Bought a couple of bottles. As for the bar, service was non existent. The bartender, one of two behind the bar watched us sit at a table while cleaning another one. Didn't greet us or say a word. As we sat there for 15 minutes looking at the menu and deciding on our drinks, never came over. I finally go to bar to order( only about 4 customers) and said, I guess you have to order at bar? Answer, just yea. So I go back and sit down. Waiting about 5 minutes, turn around and there's our drinks sitting there at end of bar at the farthest point I have to walk. Started a tab. Now we're done, he looks at me standing by POS system and walks right by me 3 times without a word. The nice young lady finally says something and I pay. My tip? Nothing. My husband and I went here Saturday with my parents, who live in the area and have enjoyed the Brewstillery before. The bartender finished making a couple drinks, looked at my father and I, turned and helped some man who just walked up, which was rude. Then he tried to argue with me over my order. My husband wanted the espresso martini, which is what I ordered. The bartender said which one, and I responded with the one that has espresso in it. There is only one martini on the menu with espresso in it. He followed that up with there is a clear one and a creamy one (a chocolate martini containing no espresso). It didn't sit well with me. He talked to me like I was an idiot. After we got our drinks, my mom and dad both pointed out their blood Mary's were very gritty. It looked like they got the remnants from the bottom of the mix bottle. They couldn't drink them. My parents said they are normally really great bloody Mary's. Here's hoping it was just an off night. My husband's espresso martini and my smoked old fashion were quite delicious. read more

A place that holds themselves out as a distillery but (1) doesn't have flights for their bourbon selection. (2) Nor do they have "one rock" for their bourbon pours; just small ice machine type ice. Don't expect this at a place called a brewery or any regular restaurant, but if you are going to call yourself a distillery you got to have common things people look for at a distillery. The single pour I had neat of the fifty one blue label bourbon was pretty good. read more

Decided to stop in on a whim on Tuesday and ended up having a blast. It was trivia night and it was busy but we ended up sitting at the bar. The bartender, Taylor, did such an amazing job taking care of everyone. She was very helpful and answered any questions I had and gave me a couple of great recommendations despite it being so busy. She took time to make sure we were comfortable and taken care of. We will be back and hope to see Taylor again! read more
