The whole process with Derks went super smooth. Most of our group was from the US, so we couldn't get them all in to get sized there. The guys just sent us their sizes and we relayed them to Derks, and all our suits came out perfect. Additionally, people arrived in town at different times, so not everyone was able to come in at the same time to get their suits and try them on. They were very accommodating with that as well. Also the process for going in and picking suits was very smooth, their staff is knowledgeable on trends while still respecting your wishes of your vision for the attire. Highly recommend! read more

Our wedding was March 3, 2018 and you would think that Derks wouldn't seem so over booked or busy during more of an off season wedding. Well I guessed wrong because 4 out of 5 of the guys had issues with their suits including the groom. I just don't understand how when everything seems fine during the final fitting that you get: A pair of missing pants, 2 short suit jackets, a wrinkled jacket, and multiple dirty white shirts on the day of your wedding! The guys weren't able to take as many groomsmen photos because they had to wait for new suit stuff to get delivered. So I contacted the district manager and I expressed my concerns and after almost a week of hearing nothing back I had to contact the store to ask her to look into finding our email. Her solution was a $100 gift card. I would have expected, the groom especially, to be compensated for his suit considering we spent $1000+ in rental wear. The gift card wasnt the best solution for this because we won't be renting there again. I also don't recommend anyone to rent suits from here especially during the busy wedding season...you might be disappointed. read more

Derks is one of my favourite stores to shop in, in Edmonton. Whenever I walk in I feel like a million bucks. Usually I stop by just to browse or say hi to some of the staff and I usually walk out with a great sport coat at a value price. I bought my first suit from Derks in 2008 and it still looks sharp and gets the frequent compliment. (I can't believe I can still fit in it now being a dad with 3 kids so that's always a good boost to the ego). Notwithstanding, the staff is always very helpful, knowledgable and genuinely care about their product and service. I enjoy my visits to Derks because typically I get a wardrobe upgrade and with it a confidence boost when meeting with new clients. read more

ABSOLUTELY THE WORST EXPERIENCE EVER!!!!!! Started the suite rental process for my April 30th wedding in September of 2021. Stopped by the downtown store and was told that there was no rush and to come back in mid February. (I myself and most of the bridal party work out of town). My fiancé went there to get a Colour swatch of the suits to match the bridal party dresses to. She was told to go to the Sherwood park location and they would loan her an article to match the fabric to. This is where we start to deal with the condescending red haired woman that thinks she can treat everyone like they're her employees. My fiancé went there and was then told that they don't do that. She even offered to rent it for the hour!!!! After an hour he was finally given a 2" piece of fabric that looked like it was cut out of a pant leg. For the suits I had spots booked at the downtown location to which upon arriving I told that it was the wrong location to do the fitting at because they dont carry that specific suit there, and everything goes out of the warehouse in Sherwood park. Made time to come back and booked into the Sherwood park location and waited almost an hour (I had a time slot booked). Then after already being told that I could purchase the items that needed to be altered there apparently was a problem with being able to purchase certain items (again dealing with condescending red haired lady). 3 hours later we are finally told we could purchase them and had them measured for alterations. I came back for a second fitting (which they knew I booked around work) and they only had one seamstress there and she was apparently too busy to check me for the additional alterations so the salesman did his best and told me to come back. 2 weeks ago a woman in our bridal party had to go for emergency surgery. I immediately called there and told one of the sales women there of the situation and that we may have to cancel one of the suit rentals to which she responded that it wouldn't be an issue. Picked up the suits today and told the woman helping us that I confirmed the cancellation to which she again said no problem. Asked for socks (brown to match the suits) and they don't even carry them. I called again after to confirm that the money the gentleman paid for the rental would be put back in his credit card. I was transferred to the apparent manager who then told me that because it was already paid for that there was nothing he could do (or would do) and that there would be no refund issued, even though I had called 2 weeks prior!!!!! DERKS FORMALS has tuned an experience that was supposed to be fun into something that has been nothing but a pain in the ass at every step and has left both myself and my fiancé in a foul mood after every time dealing with them. From the lack of communication between stores, to the improper direction we've been given by employees, to being treated like like dog crap by the rude, condescending red haired lady at the Sherwood park store. Derks clearly thinks that they are the only choice around and conduct themselves in such a manner. I wouldn't recommend using them for anything because they clearly have no appreciation for what should be their valued customers. read more

We used Derk's for my groom, our 3 groomsmen (2 of which are extremely tall), and our 5 year old ring bearer. They all looked smashing and there were no issues with getting proper sizing for our tall guys. At this location, they have the warehouse on site so grabbing new sizes is super easy. When you get a staff member working with you, they're great - you just may have to wait 45 minutes to get one - even when you have an appointment. I'm not sure if there's scheduling conflict issues, or if they just have a crazy amount of walk in traffic (unlikely), but the waiting got a little tiresome. All in all, it worked out and I was happy. read more

I stopped in at Derks today and the experience started off quite negatively. As I was getting out of my vehicle I saw an older man dressed in a nice suit smoking literally right beside the door. Not only do I think this violates a bylaw but it's really disrespectful to any patrons that might be coming to visit the store. Sure enough he ended up behind the counter in minutes. Upon getting inside I had to speak with three people before I got any information that I was looking for in regards to a suit. They didn't seem to know a whole lot about a current promotion they had on for a machine custom fitted suit. The selection for the promotion was extremely limited and I ended up not making a purchase. Not sure if I would return, but it wasn't the greatest experience. read more

Derk's are a bunch of jerks. The two guys working there followed us around the store which I don't mind help buy then whispered to each other to watch my boyfriend and I as we look like we were going to steal. Like wow we're paying customers like everyone else just looking for a suit. That's not how you run a place of business!! No wonder the reviews aren't good on here. That business owner really needs to get it together. I told the employees how rude they are and got 20 percent off so at least they did that. So all up the stars lol for 1 to 3. The youngest staff member was very kind today. The parking sucks though. read more

Worst experience ever. Would not recommend. The staff was nothing but rude. We started looking for suits in September 2019. Made an appointment and headed in. We originally dealt with Avery who was so scatterbrained. She left us in the fitting area. Forgot to bring different suit sizes and when we decided to just leave she told us next time to book an appointment even though we did and she was the one that checked us in. A few months later we went back and dealt with Min who honestly is the only person I would recommend dealing with. He got us all set up, helped my husband find a suit and all was perfect. Once Covid hit we postponed our original plans and reached out immediately. Again dealing with Avery who forgot to change our date and we had to call back several times to confirm. Closer to our new date we went in to confirm everything. Derks lost our groomsmen's deposits and sizes that were called in. And I was met with rude remarks from an older lady working there who basically told me that they didn't call in and that I was lying even though we had payment proof from the groomsmen. She was so rude to me I left in tears out of frustration. One of my groomsmen called in an updated size and she had also stated on the phone with him "wow, you sure got big". We were called the Tuesday before our wedding saying everything was ready for pick up, but when we went into pick up our suits they were not ready. The day of the wedding the sizing was all wrong and half the suits were missing cufflinks, and one of the shoes were damaged and looked like garbage. It was overall a dumpster fire and I would not recommend Derks to anyone looking at renting suits. The customer service was appalling. We would have cancelled but they were refusing refunds which given the circumstances was unacceptable. ***As a business who's primary focus is creating an experience they sure did a terrible job at that. had too go back 3 times for final fittings. they lost the sizes for our ring bearer and did not order the clothes right. I'm here for my friends wedding. When I mentioned my shirt didn't fit the 1st he said Im not use to wearing dress clothes even though I wear a tie 5 days a week. When I get my clothes back I will not be going back here. Update time: I'm still a fan of Derks, but four stars seems more appropriate than five. Our rental experience from Derks was overall quite positive, with only a few issues that bumped them down from five stars. The tuxes we ordered were great. All the men in our bridal party looked fantastic, and I loved that my husband got his rental free with four other rentals. Why the four stars? A few reasons. One of our groomsmen was extremely busy travelling for work, and wasn't able to get measured until four weeks before the wedding. Derks started calling me weekly around mid-July, and I really appreciate that they care that we get our measurements done in time for the wedding, but the constant calling just kept adding to my anxiety - if he is not in town, I can't package him up and bring him down the store. The final fitting process was also quite confusing. The majority of our pieces were good, save for the members of our party who had experienced significant weight loss and needed different pant sizes. After the final fitting was done, they walked away with the tuxes. After 5-10 minutes a sales associate would come back and tell us they were ready to take the rest of the money for the tux and hand it over. We weren't sure where they were going, and the one groomsmen that went on his own actually ended up leaving the store without his tux because they disappeared without telling him they would be back. Finally, I would caution people to keep their receipts. Our best man paid in full for his rental at his first fitting, but the store didn't keep a record of it and insisted he only paid the deposit. He didn't seem too concerned, but his receipt was at home in Toronto and he was unable to prove he had already paid the full rental and was forced to pay another $200 to leave with the tux. I am glad no one else in our party pre-paid, one instance of this was troubling enough. He plans to get a refund when he finds the receipt at home, but it is an unnecessary hassle. I didn't find out about this until after the wedding, otherwise I probably would have argued the issue at the store. If I had to do it all over again, I'd still order from Derks, but I wouldn't be so trusting of their record-keeping. read more

We got suits here for a wedding. They took measures during the fitting but then when we came to pick up the suit only a small portion of the adjustments were made. For example, the pants were not cut and the shirt was not adjusted. They said that they would readjust and that the adjustment would be ready the same day but they didn't. We had to come for a second time, this time again the adjustments did not fit (the shirt was so tight I could not wear it). On top of everything, they held our suit for ransom to pay for the second adjustments (this was never mentioned before, otherwise we would have gone to somewhere else). We used Derk's for my wedding party because I got a gift voucher for them. One was for a FREE groom rental and up to 3 groomsmen tux rental up to $1000. I called the day before and booked an appointment. When I got there the host insisted we had no appointment, but she would get us the next available consultant. We waited about 30 mins for someone to help us out. Then the lady who helped us was nice and then she started to get ruder and ruder. We picked the grooms tux, vest, and bow tie and it was good. Then she said OK so all the groomsmen will just match his bow tie, their vest and the tie. But she never asked if we wanted to get another color or style, so as of now I don't even know how the groomsmen tuxes look like. Also Derk's does not understand their own gift voucher. The lady just multiplied the tux rental price by 4, and charged us the total amount. It clearly stated that the grooms tux is FREE so we should have never of been charged for that. So we ended up having to pay the difference after the $1000 was deducted. I asked her to book appointments next Saturday so all the groomsmen to come in and she just ignored me and booked the final fitting appointment and said have a good day, and preceded to help someone else. On the next business day I asked to speak to the manager about the voucher not being used properly and he stated that the voucher was worded wrong and I needed to pay for 4 suit rentals to get one free. So they never honored their original voucher even though its from their own store. I asked since technically I paid for 4 do I get one free, but nope. Had to pay to get another suit, even though I should of got one for free. Another thing, the best man booked and appointment for a different day to get measured. He showed up and got told it would be an extra 50 min wait. So he ended up leaving because other commitments. DON'T GO TO DERKS. read more

Derks men's wear is a men's wear must in Edmonton. Their staff takes the time to go over their inventory and makes sure you leave never looking less than dapper. They have an enormous selection of suits and accessories from watches to cuff links. Plus all the Happy socks you can handle. I really like their online magazine as it has lots of great style and lifestyle tips. Derks is five star retail shopping. read more

Was in a wedding party, fitted months in advance and paid in full, they had the wrong shirt so I had to pick it up the day before. Assuming everything was fine, an hour before the ceremony we go to put on our tuxedos, and my shirt ***ABSOLUTELY REEKED OF VOMIT*** I called and it took nearly 3 hours for them to bring me a replacement shirt. NOT only did I get to wear a shirt reeking of vomit (disgusting) for nearly 3 hours, I got to pay for the experience. Almost 2 weeks and still have not heard back from customer service and whenever I call I get the run around. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!!! unless you like wearing shirts covered in other people's vomit..... IF anyone from derks reads this... Im still waiting for my money back unless doling out clothes covered in puke is your idea of acceptable.. an apology would be nice too read more

They have really poor customer service. We went in their store looking for a suit for my fiance. He was measured and everything. The suit was supposed to be custom as we were looking for certain colors to match my dress. We wasted a good hour and a half in that store, selecting the style of suit, dress shirt, tie etc. The dude, a younger fella, told me I would receive a e-mail from them within 2 weeks after they have a chance to send us samples of ties. Then if we approved it, the order would be put through. Weeks go by, no e-mail. I decided to call the younger fella as he had given me his business card. He was rude on the phone, told me that my e-mail probably ended up on junk and that he'll take a look at it, and reply back. 2 months down the road and STILL NO E-MAIL. At this point, I wasn't going to keep chasing them, so I decided to go to Harry Rosen. They are PROFESSIONALS!! We got exceptional service from them. If the men at Derks can't supply their customers with exceptional service, then maybe they are in the wrong business!!! All I have to say is, SHAME ON YOU DERKS!!!! read more

This place left me unimpressed. We came to look for a black suit rental for our small wedding. The rentals are very low quality and cheap looking and are definitely not stylish. The staff are unhelpful and rude to each other and their customers. We decided to go elsewhere. read more

I had originally ordered a tuxedo from the rental part of the store. Later on I found a tuxedo that was more what I had in mind for my wedding so I called to cancel my order. Doing this I knew I was going to forfeit my deposit but I had already paid in full. I was told over the phone that they normally mail out refund cheques, I specifically asked to pick my cheque up at the store and it was noted when I called. I went to the store to pick up my refund and to shop for shoes for my wedding. I was told by the staff that my cheque was not there and even though it was clearly noted not to mail out the cheque I was told it had been sent to my address through the mail. Nothing was offered to cancel the cheque and write a new one and the staff failed to see the inconvenience of this. It has now been 16 days and still haven't received anything in the mail. I've never actually been told by someone "the cheque is in the mail" before until now. Needless to say my business for my shoes went elsewhere. Also no response to an email that I had sent to the store, so if you're looking for customer service look elsewhere. read more

The level of service greatly depends on the salesperson you deal with. Initially my husband and I were offended by the level of distain that one salesmen treated us with because we were trying to work within a budget while renting the tuxes for our wedding party. However on our return trips, every other person we dealt with was wonderful. They matched the current deals of their competitors and gave us some extra money off. They have a good selection and successfully solved a wedding day tux mishap. Just make sure you go to the final fitting. Every single of the tuxes and shoes needed to be altered. read more

As a former employee of Derks, I would not recommend this company to anyone. The garments and staff are nice enough. The problem lies with the company itself. A piece of advice to anyone who is going to tip their fashion consultant, either tip them in cash or don't tip at all, at the end of my working relationship with the company 2 months worth of tips was stolen from me by the company. Which is not just theft from me but they are stealing from their customers. If this isn't appalling enough, working at the downtown location in Calgary alone nothing was done by the company to ensure I felt safe after the other stores in the building had closed and security had left for the day. The building had a tendency to have drunk people wandering through it, people cracked out, and on multiple occasions windows had been smashed out by windows. For several months there wasn't security in the building at all so the final 2 hours from 6pm-8pm I was the only person left in the building. There were also no security camera's in my store either, so if worst case scenario had happened there would be no way for anyone to know if I was ok. Nothing was ever done to ensure my safety. As a family owned company I would have expected more for the employees. The staff who work for the company are all great and the garments they carry are also great, but I would never personally support a company who treats their employee's so poorly and who are so willing to steal from their customers when they tip. As far as I know they didn't just steal tips from me either, I know of at least 3 other people who had tips stolen as well. read more
