Been with DermaSpa for about 15 years and the last couple of years have been horrible. When Dr Lebreque sold his practice, (a couple of years ago when this mess started) the new firm dropped my insurance BCBS and the new firm didn't inform me until after a scheduled outpatient surgery and was charged for the entire surgery. Elizabeth, the office manager (who is either overworked or just a terrible office manager) and their billing department (who are no help), after a year of constantly working this issue (by me, the patient), I ended up paying half of my surgery which I was told was supposed to be my co-pay. When I inquired with my insurance, I should have paid about half of what I ended up paying. Elizabeth assured me that going forward, that I would only be charged my insurance co-pay even through they had yet to re-establish this insurance. My next appointment , I paid my co-pay and made my next appointment for today (the second appointment). I was asked if I wanted to pay for my outstanding balance (4x my Co-pay) for my prior appointment. Long story short, I paid my outstanding balance and walked out of the office. Office staff are unable to help you and billing department are obviously contractors that treat you like a number. I think 1 star is too much. read more

I initially went to DermaSpaMed in 2017. Julia Mckenzie gave 3 options for treatment. I truely appreciate her throughness. Fast forward, 2015, everyone knew Julia, my wife and I were made to as comfortable as in 2017. the new ladies made my wife feel like she was one they could talk to about these barnacles on my back, as my Primary Care would say, after of course I fired him. I've had several encounters with this company over the years. I started at the pismo office and the front staff is the worst front office staff I have ever encountered. So Incredibly terrible that I actually stopped making appointments there. As seen from other reviews, I am clearly not the problem. Recently I revisited and had an appointment in SM. The front staff is tremendously different! They act and treat patients with respect, almost as though it's an entirely different business. My first complaint is that the office is FREEZING. I sat for an hour, half undress waiting for to be seen and the thermostat was at 62 degrees. Unfortunately the providers are the same as far as I can tell and this is where I still have to speak up about the business. Years ago I got fillers and Dr. L put 75% of the filler on half my face not realizing I only purchased 1 $800 syringe of Spectra. He was pissed, like visibly angry. He finished the injections but did not offer to even out my face because of his error. And I simply did not know what to say or how to respond to him. Recently I had a smaller (3mm) mole removed. It was not melanoma rather a simple recommendation to removal for irregularity in the path report. The incision and surgical site is about 1.5inches. Way beyond the average removal of healthy tissue margins and a very visible area of my body. DO NOT go to this office. Wait the several months to get into West dermatology if that is an option. read more

The staff here is very helpful very knowledgeable very detailed and if you're stressed or nervous or anxious, they can help calm you down. I had cancerous moles removed, and now I have to go back to see about more skin cancer that I might have. read more

I recently received an immediate remedy for my skin problem from Daniel Perry. He is incredibly amiable, knowledgeable, patient, and thorough. My office visits went very smoothly. He helped me immediately find relief for a skin rash after three required visits to my primary doctor's office (before they would give me a referral). The reason for not giving this a 5-star rating relates to getting the actual appointment, which may relate more to health insurance than this office. That's another story. I was able to get an appointment quickly however I found the Physician assistant (Corey) to be cringe worthy. As we spoke about my lengthy past history with basal cell carcinoma he actually had the nerve to say "if you are going to have cancer, skin cancer is the one to have" in disbelief I chose not to entertain in this conversation where he felt the need to let me know that skin cancer was inconsequential. This discounts my feeling and the countless others who have had skin cancer. I do not take that lightly. He is certainly lacking compassion and bedside manner I will not return. read more

First, the office: easy to find, plenty of parking, welcoming reception area. Little to no waiting before being shown to an exam room. Second, the staff: friendly, helpful, knowledgeable. Every single one of them. Special acknowledgment to Maxine who assisted Dr. Labrecque during today's visit. Dr. Labrecque: He is clearly knowledgeable and experienced. Great bedside manner. I would never recommend this office simply due to their lack of customer service. I have been waiting for my appointment for almost 3 months. My appointment is tomorrow. I didn't get a confirmation so I decided to call myself. Only to find out that someone named Marissa decided to cancel my appointment WITHOUT my knowledge because they didn't receive the proper form from my insurance even though the appointment couldn't even be booked without. Now they are telling me that I need to fix THEIR mistake and get the paperwork myself. Such lousy service. Train your staff & teach them how to communicate with your clients/patience. Why would you ever cancel someone's appointment without telling them? So unprofessional! read more

Dr Labreque actually changed my life. I am a 57 year old male who developed late in life psoriasis. I also had developed around 3-4 cysts the size of goofballs on my shoulder, thigh, and right bicep. Furthermore, it was found I had early signs of sun damage on my face that was to me more severe than I had anticipated. Dr. Labreque begin with the facial issue and within a few months, that damage was repaired. Next we attacked my psoriasis. This was difficult. He professionally worked through each step, trying to find what would help me maintain a life with my psoriasis under control. When it became clear that on Cosentyx, an injectable medication might possibly help, we went down that direction. Not only did he help me get in a program to help cover my medication costs, but he insured that an office aid would take care of most of the process and paperwork. Cosentyx absolutely cleared almost 100% of my severe psoriasis. Finally, with his precision in surgery, each of my cysts were painlessly removed. Not one ever hurting or having any issues. Not only that, but he insured that a tattoo I had was saved and methodically lined back up. I say he save my live which in fact I feel he did. He saved me from a life of uneasiness and looking and feeing odd and uncomfortable. Dr Labreque is a kind and caring doctor. He is extremely knowledgeable in dermatology and has vast years of training and procedures that completely made me feel amazing. He has a unique and fun humor that some may find a bit abrupt. But trust me, you wouldn't want anyone else handling your care. He's honest and straight to the points it comes from a place of truly wanting to help. From beginning to today he consistently make me feel like he truly cares for my happiness as a patient. He also took the time to get to know me as a person and is not one of those in and out doctors. He spends quality time, meticulous note taking and drawing up a strategy that we followed to my successful ending. Dr Labreque is an amazing doctor and individual. The office manager Elisabeth had left me a message over a week ago regarding my son's medication. Since then I have left five messages and she has not returned any. I asked her to please return my call since it was dealing with my son's medication, but I guess that was not important for her to return my call. The customer service is just not there. I made an appointment for my son, who is diabetic. When I made this appointment I told them that he is diabetic and already had an infection on this leg due and his Pediatrician referred him to this office. Apparently, they called during the madness of distance learning school supplies pick up days and I didn't see the message on my answering machine. I did confirm appointment but they already canceled his appointment. If they had told me to please confirm the appointment 24-48 hours before the appointment, I would have. I took off work, made arrangements for my son to miss his zoom meeting with his teacher. I am beyond disappointed with this office. Unless, this problem is resolved, I will tell anyone who listens to avoid this office at all cost! I know a lot of people. I just need 2 mins for the Dr. to look at his leg... to see if it can wait another month to be seen! read more

Honestly, I wish I could give negative stars. Yesterday, 5/18/17 was the worst experience I've had at Derma Spa in Pismo Beach. My appointment was at 11:00 am, I got called and waited for forty minutes to be seen. That's waaaay too long, sorry. The doctor and his annoying assistant came in, not sure of her name, but she has that annoying high pitch valley girl voice and is totally rude. I didn't hear a, "Thanks for waiting. Sorry." Then, I was interested in buying one of their products. Their products aren't cheap, and I asked the annoying valley girl if it didn't work out if I could return it. She then proceeded to give me attitude and be rude and said, "It's not going to work like magic, okay?!" Worst staff ever. Never returning ever. Everyone has a stick up their ass. The end. read more

I came in to the building and was greeted by a beautiful and welcoming interior. All of the staff were very nice and helped to calm my nerves when I found out I was going to need surgery. Tressa Esty was great! She walked me through what was going to happen before my surgery and what was happening during my surgery. It was a very quick- only an hour for intake and surgery -out patient procedure with a local anesthetic. Everything looks great on the incision, and I just had it done four days ago! I would, and have, recommend this business to anyone and everyone. read more

Pulled in the parking lot to look at google maps for directions. When the this man in a low budget suit rudely told us we were trespassing , used profanity, treated us like we trash. My wife is a school teacher and we were just getting off the street to look at google maps. We're new to the area and looking for a place to rent. I am a senior citizen with a pretty major skin issues that I won't go into detail. All I was trying to do was change from my current Dermatologist to a new Dermatologist because I had moved. 1+months just to get an appointment. I did not see the Dr. only a PA Tressa Esty. I will not be going back! I will drive 45 min each way to my old Doctor. I found PA Tressa Esty to be cold and uncaring. Insensitive to my condition or my needs. Unwilling to do anything to insure I didn't have a lapse in my bi-weekly treatment... like make a call to my old doctors office. "NO we won't do that". My prescriptions need prior authorization every 2 weeks. For them to do that they would charge me a $25 extra paperwork processing fee. "office policy" she must have said 4 times. Without care to the fact that I am on Medical because I am unable to wk. Basically ...So sad to bad...Office Policy. Come to find out my old Dr had already done my prior authorization. If she had just taken the time to call my old Dr. to set up a transition plan she would have known that. But "NO we don't do that. She didn't seem to give a sh@#$ about me. Would not do nothing to help me make the transition. Maybe they make so much money off the Spa part of their business that they don't really want real patients with real medical problems. I just finished my first laser treatment with Tuyet at DermaSpa MED (Dr. Labreque's office) and am very happy with my treatment and results. The office is nice, clean and the staff are all very courteous. My aesthetician, Tuyet, was gentle, thorough and very clear in her instructions and explanations. She was also very quick with the procedure, but took plenty of time in the aftercare to make sure I was doing fine and not having bad reactions. I can't express enough how grateful I am to have had such a good experience! Tuyet has many years of experience with lasers and at least a decade working at this office - that level of experience is important to me! Oh, and another big deal with doctor's offices are always the wait times... I'm happy to say that my (morning) appointment started exactly on time and there was no delay. When I went in for my consultation, I did wait a little while to see the doctor, but maybe that's because it was late in the afternoon (and probably their last appointment of the day). Patient privacy not really observed in this office. Non-clinical staff try to "assess" as if they are nurses/doctors. And the number one fail is...the receptionist/appointment setter, Lilly/Lillian. This is a review after my first and only visit to DermaSpa MED so far. I was concerned about the many bad reviews, but I had no choice, as this was the only dermatologist in my HMO. I am happy to say I was impressed from the moment I walked in at 1pm. I was immediately given all the forms to fill out, and I was seen as soon as I finished filling them out. The physician assistant I saw was great. She gave me a thorough exam, changed my prescription, and assured me that from now on she would recommend a skin exam every year. Everyone was friendly and professional, no waiting, the office was clean, I felt confident that I received good medical care, and I was relieved to finally know I don't have skin cancer. And my co-pay was only $10! Even the parking was great. I hope in the future I don't have any of the bad experiences other reviewers have had. read more

I called about a month ago wanting to make an appointment ahead of time since I have an HMO and was planning being referred shortly after. I was told I couldnt make an appointment until I was referrerd. I said I was planning ahead cause if it takes a month to get in I wanted to be proactive so I could get in ASAP and was told told NO. "They dont take that long". I called today to make an appointment and they cant get me in until May 20th. Horrrible HORRIBLE service on their part. My face is breaking out extremely bad and having to wait another month seems like a lifetime. Things are not looking good so far. I miss Dr. Moats :( read more

I don't like to write horrible or bad reviews but I think it is necessary for future costumers. I recently had a bad experience in the medical office. First, the office staffs have lost the ability to kindness with the customer. My appointment was scheduled for 2:45 pm, after waiting almost an hour, I decided to approach the counter and ask what happened to my appointment, the office staff told me that the doctor who would treat me still had not reached the office. So this first part of my experience was disappointing, then Why we have to schedule an appointment with the office and the doctor does not arrive on time??. For the second part, the staff finally called me for my medical consultation and of course my treatment on my skin (reason why was scheduled this second appointment). The first person who greeted me at the room patient was a nurse and she began to ask me about the last treatment which PA staff recommended me in the previous and first visit, then she asked if I had attended for monitoring such treatment, and I said "No", then she asked me Why I was there?? (honestly I laughed and think these people don't know what they are doing, why the patient are there with an appointment). Of course, I started to explain the reason for which I had attended the medical appointment, according to the my first appointment with the PA, she mentioned me to schedule the second appointment with them to remove the warts presented on my skin. Then, she said: "They didn't have that info, so they didn't know or prepared for that treatment". The nurse left the room to seek more information about it, and I was there, upset and angry about their disappointed and disorganized service. Then re-enter the room several people, including nurses and PA, asking me the same questions as before, the answers I had repeated thousands of times. I was finally tired and very upset. Also, I'm bilingual, and one of the nurses assisted me with the Spanish language, but she performed a practice with bad ethics, by translating a lie in English, by which I understood perfectly what she said and I corrected her in front of everyone. After all this horrible service, I decided to not continue with their service, because I felt they were disorganized and they wanted to make my skin treatment for their labor neglect, without having first checked the physical condition of my skin with the warts. Besides I never saw a physician specialized in dermatology in all that time spent. Also, The skin check was a joke (if you want to half a real quick skin exam with your clothes on go here), I am currently seeking another dermatologist. Andreea Martin came highly recommend to me when I had an upcoming special occasion and I wanted to look my best. I had only one facial previously and that was over 10 years ago in another city so I did not know what to expect. The actual Spa is very nice , all the staff is pleasant and there is never a wait for your appointment time. The the massage room is warm and relaxing. Since that first facial I have been fortunate to have had wonderful facials with Andreea at Derma Spa. She helped me choose the right treatment for my skin type and age which was the Ageless Facial. It is a 75 minute very relaxing treatment with the very Zen professional and personable Andreea while she does her treatments. I was so pleased to see a marked difference in my skin tone and texture after leaving the Spa that I promised myself I would take advantage of the specials she has every couple of months. I am looking forward next to her Glycolic Acid peel series that will hopefully help with too much sun in my youth. I can not say enough good things about Andreea and the facials she has given , I would have them monthly if I could!! read more

Not only is patient privacy not observed, but the reception staff are terribly rude. Several staff are very unhappy, I was even asked by one staff member if were I worked was hiring. Every time I have tried calling in, I am put on hold for at least ten minutes. They are very discourteous and seem unaware that there are other dermatologist in the area that you can see. I have had experiences with both offices and I have not been impressed by either. Appointments are only scheduled sequentially, so If you need a late afternoon appointment because you work or need childcare, you could be waiting months. Terrible service. Remember, your customers are the reason you have a job. read more
