I've been going to this clinic for about five years. At first it was great. I wasn't the biggest fan of Dr. Horner because it always seemed like she was disinterested with my concerns but I stayed because Dr. Town is so down to earth, listens, and genuinely cares. The customer service used to be honestly so impressive. I could call and voice my concerns and have an appointment with Dr. Town for two days later by the end of the call. I wish I could say the experience was still like that. A few months ago I had a cyst that needed to be taken care of ASAP. I couldn't even reach the front office. Every time I called, I reached an answering machine that just said to pick a department and leave a message. I did that. Two days later I got a call from someone that said the soonest they could get me in was two months away. Like girl, it's a cyst?? I'm not gonna wait for two months just to get a cortisone shot when it's a pretty easy 10 minute fix. Then she said if I wanted something sooner I'd have to privately message Dr. Horner and ask to see her sooner....when I specifically said I did not want to see Dr. Horner. I wanted to see Dr. Town. I messaged Dr. Town to let her know what was going on and she scheduled something for me for two days later. I was willing to stick with Dr. Town even though the customer service sucked because i feel she's that good. However, my latest experience with their customer service has left me feeling completely dismissed and honestly pretty upset. Picking up the phone as a customer service clerk when a patient is calling is the least you can do. I got their answering machine four times. They sell Elta MD and all i wanted was to stock up on sunscreen. I decided to just drive to the office because I'm completely out of sunscreen and when i got there they were closed. At 4pm. When it's posted that they're open until 5. I know it might seem little but it's little things like that that when piled on, become much bigger issues. I used to love this office but now it's a source of frustration and I'm tired of it. I wish they cared about their patients as much as they cared about their paychecks. read more

Disappointing-Nothing to write home about. Waste of your Co Pay. You wait 6 months for an appointment anxious about your cancer history. You have to take off work because "no afternoon appointments are available". You wait an hour in the room past your appointment time. I know doctors get behind but a pop of a human head in a door to advise you're running behind isn't so much to ask for. Only to be rushed through your appointment so Dr. Horner can make up time. Everyone says get a full body skin exam annually. But "Due to Covid" Dr. Horner doesn't want to get too close to you. Good luck when aside from your asymmetrical suspicious moles you want to talk about something for your adult acne or surgical scars. I walked away with a script for Hydroquinone I can't use because they did not chart that I was allergic to mineral oil when sending the prescription-to specify a formula or brand with no mineral oil. Another wasted co pay to the pharmacy. In conclusion if you like wasting time and money this is a facility for you, otherwise...you'll be better served elsewhere. Maybe even online. read more

Got the biopsy results today from my new Dermatologist, it is cancer and I have to go back next week to have more cut out of my arm. I would probably be in a lot better shape right now if DCOS could have spared a few minutes back in early December when I first called and asked for an appointment. Dr. Bass had taught me what to look for and I knew this wasn't good but apparently they are now too busy to see someone that had been a patient for probably fifteen years and knew he was in need. If you are looking for the best of dermatology look no further. The staff from front desk to back office is polite and professional. Leslie at check-in is so kind and always makes you feel welcomed. The doctors are phenomenal and are in high demand because of their experience talent and skill. Occasionally wait times run over which is understandable since it is a medical practice (kind of a no brainer) no two appointments are a-like and each patient is treated with the necessary care and expertise. The doctors here care about their patients and treat them with so much detail that each patient goes in and leaves getting exactly what they need. (if it isn't resolved the back office medical assistants are excellent at letting the Dr.s know what's going on) Dr. Bass is one of the areas most experienced dermatologist. He is a legend! You will be very fortunate if you are able to be treated/seen by him. Dr. Parsons is on top of it!! Top notch doctor straight to the point, personable and caring. I trust Dr. parsons with my life she is incredible. Dr. Horner is impressive from her skill to efficiency, she is as smart as she is beautiful. She always makes me feel comfortable, explains things very thoroughly and is easy to understand. Whoever is running this operation is doing an excellent job! Will return. read more

If it wasn't for the pleasant, efficient staff in the office, I wouldn't even give this place one star! My appointment today was with Dr. Layne Hersh. (I had asked for Dr. Bass, but he was on vacation.) During the exam, her demeanor was curt and arrogant, less than professional. I felt as if she couldn't be bothered with treating me. She interrupted me several times during the interview process and didn't appear to be listening to anything I said. She never smiled once during the entire appointment, which lasted probably less than 10 minutes. Her visual examination of my concerns was cursory, at best. My main concern, a recurring spot on the tip of my nose, she barely even glanced at it. She never even used the magnification glasses that other dermotologists have used before when examining my skin. Twice she said that if she had to biopsy anything on my nose that it would leave a scar. (I've had a biopsy on my nose before, barely noticeable scar!) She wound up removing (freezing) 3 spots; one on my hand, one on my arm and one on my face. All of which took about 30 seconds. And when I asked her about severe dry skin on my heels, she said I could get Albolene and that some place "three driveways down" was the only place that carried it. (I later found it at CVS.) Her ultimate diagnosis shocked me. Just a quick prescription and she practically rushed me out the door. Come back in 4 months unless the spot comes back again. Because I do not feel confident in the treatment Dr. Hersh provided, I will not be returning. In fact, I plan to contact my primary care physician and my health group and let them know about my experience. It can be summed up in one word: horrible! read more

I wrote a separate review for Dr. Parsons, but will include one here under the medical group as well. I have seen dermatologists pretty much my whole adult life. For a variety of reasons, I lost faith in my last Sacramento dermatologist (who I'd seen for years) and decided to switch to Dr. Parsons. Dr. Parsons has been friendly, efficient, and extremely helpful in getting my stubborn and volatile cystic acne under control. She also does very thorough skin screenings and she's a talented injector (sclerotherapy). She is very down-to-earth and practical with product recommendations and often suggests affordable alternatives to pricey skin-care products. I have found the office staff and medical assistants to be great. Also, I was scheduled with Dr. Bass once when Dr. Parsons was away and he was wonderful. So glad I decided to make the switch to Dr. Parsons for my dermatology issues! read more

This rating is JUST for the office staff. I'd heard from some physicans I trust that Dr. Parsons is good, but if you are paying out of pocket or have time constraints I would try somewhere else. You can't get a consultation without a physician referral (even if paying out of pocket), the wait for an appointment just for a consultation was 3.5 weeks. It would be $118 for the consultation, and the staff said they couldn't give me even a ballpark estimate for how much the procedure would be (cosmetic mole removal). Also, I made a few phone calls to office staff trying to get information, and I was frustrated by the lack of helpfulness/information, and their manner ranged from disinterested to short/borderline rude. I got the impression they did not need or want an out-of-pocket client. I bet the doctors are great, but I couldn't get past the front office. I called a plastic surgery practice and was able to get an appointment in 1.5 weeks for a $60 consultation (applicable to procedure) and was able to get a price range estimate. And the staff was helpful and friendly! read more

I have been going to Dermatology Consultants of Sacramento since the mid 1970's when I was in High School, At that time the practice was called Bass, Klass and Harding. Dr. Hersh has been my dermatologist for the last 20-25 years of this period. I have always had a wonderful connection with her. She is always willing to listen to my concerns about any skin problems, especially my moles that I have. My two sons and wife also see Dr. Hersh. We are pleased with Dr. Hersh and the whole office and have recommended to friends looking for a great dermatologist. I had the same experience with Dr. Hersh as the person on 8/2012. I don't know what her problem is but she is in the wrong business. Her bedside manner is horrific and impersonal. I came in for hair loss and she sat clear across the room from me, never approaching until I nagged her. She gave my scalp a cursory look, didn't part my hair or use any other method to actually examine it. She told me I could take Biotin and use Rogain but I had to badger her to get any information on Rogain's effects and/or side effects. She just said come back in 6 months. Why is she even in this practice. She is rude and unfriendly, unlike the rest of the personnel in the office. I immediate told the front office I never wanted to see her again and made my follow up appointment with Dr. Parsons who comes highly recommended. We'll see.... read more

I am a relatively new patient of Dr. Horner's and must admit I was surprised by the other Yelp reviews regarding the staff at Dermatology Consultants. I've been in three times and the office staff have been professional, friendly, and quick to greet and process the paperwork. My wait times have been short--like 5 minutes. While waiting I also listened to the receptionist respond to incoming calls. She was pleasant and seemed to patiently field the apparent questions she received. Dr. Horner's medical assistant was quite professional. Best of all is Dr. Horner. She is amazing! She's warm, disarming and really listened to my concerns. She quickly assessed my condition and told me what she was going to do and how it might feel so there were no surprises. I will definitely recommend her and her office to my friends! read more

Dr. Bass was awesome! After searching the area I came upon this location and since they were able to make an appointment that was convienent, we stopped by. It's funny because we went to Laser & Skin Surgery Center and they weren't able to find out if the rash on my friend's elbow was a fungus or not, but as soon as Dr. Bass walked in the room, he immedietly knew without us having to say anything. You can tell right away that he's a people person and makes you feel right at home. He reminds me of someone's grandfather with great knowledge! :) The front service may not be that great, but the doctor makes up for it. read more

I wish i could leave no stars. Dr. Hirsch misdiagnosed my 4 year old child as having dishydrotic eczema on her feet and put her on a topical steroid cream for 8 months. We went to UCSF for a second opinion and it turned out to be Athletes Foot and prescribed over the counter Lamisil and it cleared up in a month. Incompetent. read more

Took my son here for a steroid injection for an acne cyst. Dr. Horner's administration of the injection caused very significant atrophy to the area, which looks much worse than the original condition we wanted treated. It's right in the middle of my son's cheek and has caused a lot of distress and self esteem issues. It has been 4 months and the atrophy is not lessening/correcting. Based on my own research, I've learned that experienced dermatologists can use saline injections or fillers to correct this atrophy. However, when I inquired about this with the office, I was told there is nothing they can do and you just have to wait for the condition to correct itself, which can take a year. I asked why they don't have procedures in place such as filler or saline injections to offer patients to minimize the atrophy caused by the cortisone injection. The answer was that they just don't. I've had to take my son elsewhere to remedy the problem Dr. Horner and this practice caused. I consulted with a plastic surgeon and a dermatologist and both shook their heads upon seeing the atrophy on my son's face, which looks disfiguring. They said that this should not have happened and was the result of overuse/poor administration of the steroid injection. They said that fillers will temporarily help but that my son may need fat grafting to permanently correct the problem. This should not have happened and when it did, the practice should have stepped up and offered solutions. Those solutions clearly exist but this practice either does not know about them or does not care about having provided poor treatment. Either way, it is unacceptable. read more

Horrible office staff. I showed on-time for a 2:10 appt with Parson's on 7/10/15. While checking in I inquired if the Dr was running on-time. Leslie very rudely said no and wouldn't give me an estimate, it's very obvious she isn't concerned about the patients. When I further queried her as to a ball park time frame she loudly states "I can't see thru walls". Long story short, the office manager is also ineffective, he admits they overbook and are rarely on time. read more

Very difficult to get a timely appointment. I wanted to be seen for a recurring skin rash. I called July 24 and Dr. Parson could not see me until mid September. I was able to see Dr. Horner in 3 weeks, only after an administrator approved it and making it a permanent switch of doctors. After waiting in the patient room for 15 minutes, Dr. Horner and another staff member with a laptop came in the room. The lady with the laptop was not introduced, nor was there an explanation of her presence. Dr. Horner had not reviewed my record as a long time patient (with Dr. Hersh who retired) to familiarize herself with my history. She and her associate left the patient room and returned with my file. Initially, Dr. Horner, suggested biopsy and described the procedure. I explained that I wanted some cream to stop the spreading of my rash, as had been done in the past with Dr. Hersh. She was going to prescribe a mild steroid and changed her mind. I left without being treated and was told that "time will heal my recurring rash". read more

The office staff was polite, prompt to greet and provide paperwork and my wait was minimal. My appointment was with Dr. Horner who was very thorough, attentive and interested hearing my concerns. She diagnosed a problem, provided a solution and we scheduled a recheck. My condition, while chronic is dramatically improved and managed. Subsequently, my partner has seen her and had biopsies that diagnosed dangerous melanoma. I've every confidence in the office and Dr. Horner's abilities to continue to provide excellent care and have no hesitance in recommending Dermatology Consultants to others seeking dermatological care. read more

I couldn't even get into an appointment because the office staff was so terrible. I needed a same day appointment because of some really bad pain, and one lady told me I needed an urgent referral from my primary doctor to do that. So the next day I got the referral, and they told me they don't do same day appointments at all, and the urgent referral meant nothing! This was also after I tried calling for 3 days with no answer and no one calling back. The staff is unorganized and rude. read more
