We trust Descansa to look after our 2 unit home in NE and are so happy that we chose their team. We've worked with 5 companies over the past 20 years at different properties and they are by far the best. They truly care about providing an excellent home experience for both owners and renters and lead conversations with empathy and listening; our key contact is responsive and takes action. It's also clear that they enjoy their work. We've met their maintenance team in person and they have helped us with identifying small items to fix to make our property more enjoyable for tenants along with doing more larger fixes when things have broken down. I had a fantastic experience from start to finish with the Descansa property in Portland. The house was spotless and getting in was super easy. The home manual had all the information I needed and any questions I had were answered promptly. A special bonus was the well-equipped kitchen, with pots, knives, and pans, plus amazing coffee: excellent locally roasted Great North Coffee, which made mornings perfect. I do not recommend Descansa as a property management company. I echo the 'overpromise, underdeliver' and 'reminder to shop around' sentiments by other reviewers. They're nothing but charlatans with poor business execution. Descansa is disorganized and exorbitantly overpriced given the mediocre service provided. Slow to communicate when you have questions or concerns, the business feels fledgling and unstable because it is. After an exhausting experience, we look forward to parting ways. read more

I came to Yelp to write a review of my two recent experiences working with Descansa and their team, and am surprised to see the flurry of bad reviews. It is completely contrary to my experience with them both professionally and personally, the word of mouth that lead me to working with them, and the reviews I had read previous to my bookings with them. As a bystander, it feels fishy and I would like to tell my story so people can decide for themselves. Descansa was recommended to me through several people, one who was working with them to rent their home while they lived abroad, and several others who recommended that they might properties for me to use for my business needs. They all had nothing but great things to say, so I reached out to them to see if they had any properties that could work for an offsite strategy session for myself and my business partner to stay at for several days. Renea got back quickly and we booked an amazing space in downtown St Johns. It was clean, gorgeously decorated, and had tons of places to eat and things to do right outside the door. The beds were crazy comfy! They let us in early, and stay a bit late without any fuss or charge. We will definitely do it again for next year's offsite. After that experience, I asked if they had any properties on Mississippi that I could rent for my birthday weekend. It was completely last minute. They did, and once again I was impressed with the quick communication, ease of payment, and perfect location. I left 5-star reviews for both of those properties. You can easily see that I am, in fact, a Descansa client. Based on what my neighbor experienced, and how well I see their home being managed while they are in Mexico, I would 100% go with Descansa if ever planning to rent my home. This review is a reminder to individuals to do their research and shop around when looking at property managers. Descansas start-up fees were higher than others so be sure to check that out. We also found that their monthly service fees were about 2-5% higher. This adds up over time! Others were offering much more than what they were offering for far less! Descansa also has a mandatory donation fee which is fine I guess but they take that from you and put it in their name so they can write it off. They also require you to give up your home to them for a certain number of days out fo the year at your cost so they can give people free stays and they can promote themselves. When we asked for examples of this, they weren't able to provide anything of substance. The person we spoke to was pretty unflexible and rude when we asked about it - like how dare we?? Everything seemed a little iffy and overpriced with Descansa at the end of the day and all of our interactions with them were negative. read more

Working with Descansa PDX was a living nightmare right from the start. I trusted Descansa PDX to manage two of my homes and I am leaving this review as a warning for others in hopes that they don't make the same mistake that I did. Run, don't walk, away from this business at all costs. Do you remember that horrific, incompetent landlord and property manager that you had in college who ripped you off, nickel-and-dimed you, withheld your security deposit, was difficult to work with and never responded to you? That's what my experience was like at every turn and at every interaction with Kate and her staff ... except worse. Here are just a FEW examples of instances that I had working with Descansa PDX Property Management: 1. Kate (the owner) was over 10 minutes late to our first meeting. 2. She let her personal friends stay at my residence for free prior to my home being listed and when her staff told me that no one was in the home. They were reported as chain smoking in my home by a neighbor and Kate said she didn't believe them. 3. Security cameras outside my home showed a male cleaning staff member standing in the bushes of my front porch for a prolonged period and appearing to urinate in them. When I shared this with Descansa PeeDx, they said he was "just adjusting himself." Ok. Right. 4. Long-term tenants who I had for over a year prior to Descansa PeeDx managing the property broke their lease and moved out early. They also left the place a complete disaster. Here's some of what they shared with me: "Given the terrible experience we've had with them, we have the suspicion that they haven't exactly kept you in the loop." 5. Kate, in particular, would repeedetedly dodge and evade direct questions that I would ask her. 6. A mold issue went unreported for an extended period and the staff of Descansa PeeDx failed at every level to do their job. When I disputed the charge with them due to their negligence and mismanagement, Kate charged me without even contacting me. 7. Descansa PeeDx took down my listing preventing it from being rented. 8. Kate willingly ignored repeeted requests for itemized information on charges that I was being invoiced for. Many of her charges were not adding up and there were "errors" in her accounting that I had to go back and correct. Her staff had lost my SSN information and failed to provide me with end of the year documents. 9. Mail was stolen from the property due to it going multiple weeks if not months of it not being checked. The build up of mail was overflowing out of the mailbox. Part of the revenue generated made from renting the home gets donated to various non-profit organizations. As a veteran, I bought my first home using the VA Home Loan program so I had specifically requested to Kate Simer directly for my share to be given to non-profit organization that focuses on homeless veterans. She said that she would. As of April 2023, no such organization is listed on their website and I am now faced with potentially becoming a homeless veteran myself as I have no revenue coming into my home all due to the incompetence, unethical and negligent behavior of Kate Simer and Descansa PeeDx. Whatever you do, don't do business with this company. Find another property manager. read more

Descansa is a terrible property management company. They have minimal knowledge about the details of their properties. We had an issue and they didn't have a clue how to resolve it. Don't stay at their properties if you value amenities like hot water. read more

I decided that in 2024, I would take time to write good reviews as I generally see it as my duty as a consumer to warn others of a problem with a business by writing a "bad review". With that said, I want to express my great expriencing in working with Descana. They began managaing my property in 2022. I found them to be very hands on and very avaialable not just for guest or tenanats but for us the property owners as well. We receive services as though we were one of their top clients, with multiple properties. They are very professional yet personable. Glad I choose Descansa vs a couple other property management companies I worked with in the past. Whom treated me as annoyance when I raised concerned. read more

My property has been managed by Descansa PDX for about two years. My experience with them has been excellent. I think my favorite aspect of working with this group is their level of responsiveness when something goes wrong. Not too long ago, a tenant had left my property in astonishingly terrible shape. Several members of the Descansa staff, as well as Kate, were very attentive to my needs and concerns throughout the process of restoring the property to a livable state. They were also compassionate and caring and helped me feel like I was not alone. My other favorite aspect of working with Descansa is that my property has been occupied by paying tenants for just about every day it has been available. It is unfortunate that other property owners have had different experiences with Descansa PDX. Theirs do not reflect mine at all. read more
