Good and not good... We brought our 4 year old dog Harvick (1/2 Shepherd / 1/2 Malinois) for 2 lacerations to his left hip Monday. He received 7 stitches total. $292. We left the clinic with the medication we needed and our care instructions. The staff is very nice and friendly. This was the good part, 5 stars-ish...! They are veterinarians, I am not... They did not insist on the dog getting a cone, saying he should be ok and we just need to watch him. Who can watch their animals 24/7?? Because the sutures were well within licking distance, I questioned their thought, but figured they know what they were doin... Well, he licked 1 of them out the 1st night...that wasn't the worst laceration, so we waited to see if he would lick out the stiches on the 2nd one, well last night he did...opened it right up! We went back to the clinic on Wednesday, got an appointment for 1pm for new stitches... They charged me another $245 for them to put new stitches in just 1 of the lacerations (the worst one), when we shouldn't have needed any new stitches at all if they would have recommended the cone!! I asked for a discount, maybe split it or something, but nope, nothing!!!! If they would have recommended the cone the 1st day, we would have totally gotten one...but they said he should be alright if you just keep and eye on him...well, kind of tough to do while you're sleeping!! This is where the 1 or no stars come in!! They lost my business unfortunately, there are other vets in the hood!! read more

3 STARS for the FRONT OFFICE. I have to say all at the front desk where kind and helpful when they were finally off the phones. Seems the front desk is very over extended. As for the VET, DR. TYRON gets 5 STARS along with the VET TECHS. They listened to my concerns about my 16 year old dog and helped to put my mind as ease. Dr Tyron called me back 2 different times with my concerns and questions prior to the dental surgery my dog needed. Coming from a much smaller Vet office I am not accustomed to the busy hustle and different faces you see each visit to the office. But this is a clinic that handles some emergency type issue. read more

I'm said to say that we've switched vets because my patience with this clinic is gone. We were customers for nearly 10 years and they were invaluable in helping us deal with feline diabetes. Several years ago, most of the front office staff was replaced and that was really when things started going downhill. The new folks weren't as friendly and didn't seem to have the same level of customer engagement. However, I stayed because we were established and I liked Dr. N. The most recent issue was with my cat having elimination issues. He saw Dr. N and we did the whole shebang with the urinalysis, senior screen, etc. We finally determined it was likely behavioral and I decided to put him on the proposed treatment of an anti-anxiety medication. I played phone tag with Dr. N for FOUR DAYS. (This is four days of my cat on a pee spree while I helplessly wait by the phone.) Missing a phone call from the clinic is like missing a call from the Pope.... it may be hours or days before you get a return call again. The last straw was when I left a message (again) and never got a call back. I suspect this is the fault of the front desk folks but for me, that was it. My decision was reinforced when the vet at the new clinic spent nearly a half hour with my cat, when he did a blood pressure screen with my cat (if DHAC ever did one, they didn't tell me) and I called two separate times with questions and BOTH TIMES the lady put me on hold, talked to the vet and I got my answer immediately. read more

Hi, I don't usually post reviews, but I recently had a very bad experience with one of the vets there. It was so bad that I filed a complaint with the Vet board and I won the complaint because this Vet lied to the board. My cat has a heart condition along with fluid in his lungs and the vet said he suggested Xrays and I turned them down, but the truth is he never suggested Xrays; in fact, I had a phone conversation with him a couple weeks after I took my pet into the Emergency Vet and he told me over the phone "I guess I should have suggested Xrays". I was already to lose to a person of high moral standards that would have admitted that he made an error, but since this man lied, I am really glad I won. read more

I live right around the corner and have used these guys for years. I've always thought the price was kinda high but put up with it for the convenience. Last year we had one of our dogs that needed a tooth removed and also had his teeth cleaned. Over $300 later! Today we have another older dog that has a broken tooth. Now the cost is quoted at over $600! I can go to my dentist and have a tooth removed AND a full cleaning for less money! I can also have my large animal vet come to my house and do the teeth on 2 horses cheaper than I can take 1 dog to them? I believe in paying a reasonable fee for a service. Started using DHAC because it's not too far from Anthem, gave me the best quote for spaying my Rottie puppy and was highly recommended on an Anthem forum. After I adopted my German Shepherd, I took him there too. I've seen Dr Neidigh and Dr Gold and they're both thorough in their exams and patient with explaining things. My puppy and my best friend's dog were spayed together on the same day and they both recovered just fine.. no horror stories, phew!!!! They recently raised their exam fee by a few dollars so it's not really worth it for me to drive out there. I recently took my Rottie to a vet around the corner from my house and will probably permanently switch her and my GSD over to the local vet when needed. But we'll probably continue to visit the shot clinic at DHAC when needed. The lines for the clinic are long, but I guess it's worth it if it means not having to pay for the office visit fee. read more

I Took my old cat in the be euthanized, he had been having seizures, the staff put me in a room, and said the Doctor will be in "shortly" We wanted for over 15 minutes.... My cat started seizing again and I yanked opened the door and said, "Come put him down now!!" I was hysterical. The staff then burst in grabbed him and took him into the back room and administered the drug. If they would have seen him at his appointed time, it would not have to have been so tramatic for me. read more

Dr Gold always provides the best care possible, along with great advice and his love for animals really shows. That means everything to me. A great place to take animals!!! The vet and staff give you a full understanding of your animals concerns. If there are options they advise you on them and let you take your time to decide. If you need medications they let you know that you can find them online to save some money and they will fax in the order. My dogs usually act in certain ways with new vets or vets they don't like. Our dogs were very comfortable in the office and with the Vet the whole time. Their hours are flexable, the staff is flexable, and there was no feeling of nickle and dime type mentality. read more

The testing that I have to get done a few times a year is about $100 less than at the last veterinarian I went to. My recent trip was amazing. We have been in for shots in the past, this time we had bloody diarehea . I suspected Giardia, since my dog will eat anything, and is pretty aggressive about food. She is rather an anxious dog, and has OCD so things like wind make her a little crazy. Her tests were all negative, but her stools were still soft and bloody even though we had been treating diarehea. The bottom line, she has ulcerative colitis. We came home with plenty of medication to help heal the ulcers, and diet information to ease the distress. Now we are a few days into treatment, plus an anti anxiety collar, and she is getting back to her old self. I was very pleased with the treatment me received. We had taken both dogs, in case she was infectious and both would be treated. Both dogs were relaxed and even napped during the visit. This was a good experience on so many levels. read more

I have tried waiting more than two years before writing this review in order to obtain a semblance of perspective and objectivity. Now, unfortunately due to the extended time between my last visit to this vet and my writing of this review, details have been lost, but I will attempt to be objective and as thorough as possible in my review anyway. One last additional note before continuing. I realize that experiences will vary between clients, and I have taken that well into consideration before writing this review, but as person with more than 22 years in the quality engineering field, and as someone that possess an advanced degree required detailed knowledge and objectivity, I do feel "qualified" to comment. Take my words for whatever you deem them to be worth, but you seriously risk your animals life if you trust these hacks, quacks, and incompetent fools. Let me qualify that last, rather harsh statement a bit. The two doctors I saw at this clinic seemed, and I emphasize 'seemed,' professional and well-read in their respective fields regarding the latest peer-reviewed literature. However, when my experience was all said and done, I would have to say their appearances were just that, an illusion, a false front, a facade. I chose this clinic because they are very close to my home, and I drive by the location twice daily on my to and from work. Also because a dear friend of mine has had good experiences there in the past. It was not worth it! The front desk staff, while typically friendly, were so severely limited in their intellectual ability to discern relevant and important information that they alone, even though they are not administering care to your animal, may threaten the life of your beloved pet. They frequently misplaced files, mistaken written down prescription information, refused to source or call in several prescriptions that were not as common as others, were slow in cleaning up pet messes in the waiting room, even when there were several of them standing around chatting, etc. They made a simple error in filing one prescription that could have easily been fatal had I not been paying extra attention to the labels and realized they gave me (filled in-house) the wrong medication (labeled for my animal, but the WRONG medication). The staff was so incompetent as to actual return an animal to me, after surgery (more on that in a moment) without being in her carrier. The tech that brought my animal to me, was carrying her in a way that showed no care for her recent surgery, putting pressure on her incision. When I said, "What about her carrier?" The response was a flippant, "Oh, you probably want that, huh?" Seriously, my upset wasn't about them potentially not returning my carrier, though that is bad enough, it was that the animal would have been much more comfortable in its carrier and not having this dolt's shoulder pressing into her fresh incision! It gets worse! That animal was there for a lumpectomy to test for cancer. In cats, as my animal is, this type of cancer is an extremely virulent strain and unless it is caught and treated early will assuredly end the animal's life. I was give the animal to take home and told she did not require pain medication. I insisted upon speaking with the doctor, who was apparently going to release a post-operative patient without consulting with the human client/caretaker directly (see; WARING SIGN!!!), to inquire beyond the incompetent tech that brought my animal back to me about the administration of pain medication. The doctor came in, and in fact confirmed that no pain meds or antibiotic were required. Within a few days, of keeping careful watch on the incision, I noted a foul, rotten smell coming from my cat's incision and signs of a fever. Unfortunately, and also fortunately (more in a moment), it was Thanksgiving Day and Desert Hills Vet Clinic was not opened to address my cat's infection, illness, fever, pain. I immediately looked up a 24 hour emergency vet clinic and rushed my cat to that location. The on-call vet at that vet clinic was terrific, and got my cat on the road to recovery quickly. When the pathology results came back from the lumpectomy, it was confirmed that the lump was indeed cancerous and my little cat would need a radical chain mastectomy to remove all mammary tissue in order for her to have the best chance for recovery. Well, I certainly wasn't going to have the HACKS at Desert Hills Vet Clinic operate on my cat a second time. I feel completely justified in saying 'HACKS,' because the fact is that when I requested the records so I could take my cat elsewhere for the aforementioned surgery, it was plain as the itemized bill that they NEVER ADMINISTERED AN ANTIBIOTIC DURING SURGERY AND THUS THE INFECTION HAD SET IN!!! I feel that in a way it was fortunate that Desert Hills Vet Clinic wasn't opened on Thanksgiving Day because it led me to a much better, more caring, more professional vet! BEWARE!!!!!!! read more

I've used this clinic for many years and with several different animals. They have done great in the past, and not so great in recent years. When I first started with Dr. Gold, it seemed like they were genuinely interested in helping without regard to padding their bills. As the years went on, it seemed that collecting money was the main objective over delivering exceptional care. We had a cat that was very ill. They pushed me to do dental work on him and I reluctantly agreed (a bad call on my part that I will never forgive myself for...no seriously ill animal should ever be subjected to dental work!). After the teeth work (that never resolved his original issue BTW), the doctor removed his top incisors, but not the bottom ones. He said he would have broken his jaw if he tried to remove the bottom. So, on top of all the pain this cat was in, his bottom incisors were now cutting into his cheeks and causing him to bleed seriously from the mouth. Dr. Neidigh said he might be able to grind them down, or I could go to a specialist and have them removed for several thousands of dollars. Why in the world would he have even gone forward with this treatment...something that had nothing to do with the cat's original issue. My cat was definitely worse off by this "treatment." Seems to be just a money grab that caused increased suffering for my poor cat. Then to top it off...we have spent thousands at this clinic and yet twice we brought in a seriously ill animal to be euthanized, including the cat mentioned above. Instead of allowing us to stay with our beloved pet until the end, they insisted we leave the exam room and go to the front desk to "pre-pay" for the euthanasia service. Really? How heartless. They said they get people who are too distraught to pay afterward. So we have been a client for well over a decade and have spent thousands, but all of a sudden we're going to skip out on paying our euthanasia bill??? I wish I could give them 2-3 stars for the good treatment we had in the early years. But, we can't get over the horrific, inexcusable experiences of recent years. read more

My Lola dog had a terrible allergic reaction to something. I called the clinic and they were very friendly and gave me some advice to get us through the night after we determined her reaction was not too serious. They made an appointment for me the next day and Dr. Bryan and all of the techs were great! I really feel they care about my dog and the price for the treatment was very reasonable. They also have a clinic once a month with discounted vaccine prices. If you need a vet in this area (and it's worth the drive if you're not that close), I highly recommend this establishment! read more

Updating review: Service has gone down hill since Goldie left. Pretty bummed about that. She was the best! Before when I would go, everyone knew me and my pets and were super friendly. Now it seems colder and they aren't "involved". People love to talk about their pets. That's part of the charm of a smaller animal hospital. I have had dogs all my life and consequently experienced quite a few Vets. Dr Gold is intelligent and thorough (and Desert Hills is gracious in suggesting ways to limit costs) . . . at the end of the day, it is my decision regarding my pups treatment. I ask a lot of questions, he/they have answers and comments for future care. My pup just came out of surgery for a couple of lumps and a tag. Dr Gold, Cody and I had extensive conversation about this as well as his meds, food and site stitches. Dr Gold is a terrific communicator. I find him quite knowledgeable. Best Vet I have EVER experienced. I also have an Addison's Disease pup. All the info I read on the internet about good care is consistent with Dr Gold's recommendations. Never met a vet so full of heart, pups well being and caregiver (ME) concerns. I do take advantage of the first Saturday inoculation discounts. I cannot imagine asking them for more treatment at that time (the line is usually long as many people believe in their care also). So if you have other concerns, make an appt. You will find their rates extremely reasonable and Dr Gold's advice quite remarkable. I highly recommend ! read more

The office staff are not friendly and customer service oriented along with the office not being clean. Dr. Fitzpatrick is far from a great doctor. I brought my dog in because of an infection which they packed my dogs ears and prescribed medication. Over the course of a month I had brought my dog in for check ups and because of their lack of care and knowledge, my dog is still sick and every time I went I was charged. It's nothing but a rip off, they don't care about animals, only the $$$. They over charge and provide a poor service that they should be called out on and ultimately closed down as our animals and community deserves better. read more
