This is the ONLY vet i trust with my dogs. Taking your dogs to the vet is nerve racking in it's self... for the fact of cost, care of your animal, why you're there, etc. But New River vet is the first vet i felt welcomed to. I have a corgi puppy and a border collie. They are quick, always on time and care about your pets. They give you multiple options instead of just a here-you-go kind of service. My dogs are going through a nasty parasite and it's been heart breaking. But Dr.Jess was nothing but caring and actually listened to me as a client. I own a local grooming company and recommend them to everyone. I had a bad experience at a different local vet here in anthem. To say it was bad is an understatement. New river has always welcomed with warm hugs. I did price comparisons at other vets in about a 20 mile radius and this vets prices beat everyone else's as well as having good service. LET THIS BE A WARNING -- THINK TWICE BEFORE TRUSTING THIS VETERINARY PRACTICE. After more than 20 years as a loyal client, my elderly mother deserved compassion and honesty during one of the most devastating moments of her life: saying goodbye to her beloved dog. Tammy completed the paperwork and asked my mother sign it. My mother did not personally complete the paperwork, yet it ended up indicating mass cremation--something my mother never chose and had never selected in more than 20 years with this practice. ALL HER DOGS HAVE BEEN CREMATED AND RETURNED TO HER!!! She only discovered what had happened when she called asking when she would receive her dog's remains. What happened next was even worse. Instead of taking responsibility, investigating what actually occurred, or simply admitting a mistake, Sarah, the owner/vet, defended the staff and blamed my elderly mother. There is paperwork showing Tammy's handwriting and my mother's signature. If there is camera footage of the encounter, review it and determine the truth. In our opinion, Tammy and Sarah are lying to cover their mistake and shifting the blame onto an elderly, grieving woman who trusted this practice for decades. That is not accountability. It is not compassion. And it is completely unacceptable. My mother deserved better. Our dog deserved better. After 20+ years of loyalty, we deserved better. They missed the basics on my dog with seizures, they X-ray her heart but never checked her lungs which filled with liquid and she died. Sarah's ok but she missed a basic health check on her lungs which should have been done, will never use their services again. read more

We've been coming to this office since before it had its 2 expansions. Dr Sarah is sweet, compassionate, knowledgeable and always transparent about costs. (Extremely competitive prices!!!) We used to live in Anthem where it was about a 10 min drive. Now we live right down the street from a vet but prefer to travel 30 min JUST TO SEE Dr Sarah because she's THAT GOOD! If that wasn't enough, the ENTIRE office staff is INCREDIBLE!!! Lastly and most importantly, our little Oreo passed away at home, and throughout his last days and afterwards, Dr Sarah was an ANGEL!!! I cried when I received the sympathy card with everyone's signature AND Oreo's paw prints!!! I still have it tucked into the memorial shadow box. I doubt there's a better vet ANYWHERE that can hold a candle to Dr. Sarah!!! Take your pet there. You'll be so glad you did!!! read more

In your time of need, they will not be there for you. I knew something was wrong when our dog was acting restless and took her in to get checked out. They couldn't find anything wrong with her. Apparently they don't know the signs and symptoms of a rattlesnake bite and sent us home. The next morning she woke up with an extremely swollen face and two puncture wounds on the top of her head! Some exam! If her skull hadn't stopped the fangs from fully penetrating, I'm certain she would have died due to their incompetent care. More recently she had oral issues and we thought she needed a cleaning and scheduled it at the earliest availability which was about 8 weeks out. I then checked her teeth and, finding no evidence or the typical tarter buildup, cancelled. Days later it was obvious there was a problem/infection, called and explained, and despite the change in condition, again scheduled for a cleaning about 8 weeks out. A little later I realized she was in distress and needed help, so I took her here, explained my concern, and refused to leave until she was seen. They examined her and sent us away with some antibiotics to await her dental cleaning appointment. Knowing she needed help before then, I found another clinic that could see her sooner and took her there. Within 20 minutes after dropping her off, I got the call we all don't want; during a basic initial mouth exam, it was determined she has cancer! The Vet said they could do a biopsy, but it was pretty pointless, as it was obviously cancer. They gave us a 30 day supply of antibiotics, inflammation, and pain meds to include euthanasia option resources. After the first 30 day supply of meds, and our baby still doing pretty good, we tried to refill them here instead of the clinic that gave her the cancer diagnosis. It was like pulling hens teeth. Again, with the 'we'll need to examine her first ($)'. Since this all started about 3+ months ago, we've given our baby what we've considered to be hospice care of meds and soft/liquid foods (she can't eat anything else). All this said, we were expecting a pretty quick decline in her condition being told it would be time when she either stopped eating or had extensive and bloody discharge from her mouth. Although she continues to have challenges eating with her damaged tongue, her decline wasn't what we were lead to believe. As a result, my concern became, maybe it's not cancer and she possibly got a foreign body in her tongue which became infected, and there's treatment for that she should be receiving. So, I called this place to schedule a biopsy. Their answer; 'we'll need to schedule an exam to decide if another appointment to do the biopsy is needed.' They are completely clueless as to the urgency of treatment. Is that what you want from your Vet? read more

I have been using Dr. Sarah as our family vet for many years and dogs. We've always received outstanding service both from her and from the entire team in the clinic. They are all genuine animal people who clearly care about their patients and their owners. The have gone above and beyond for us on more than one occasion and their prices are extremely reasonable. I have a lot to say. To start, this is the best damn Veterinary Hospital that I have ever been to. I have one negative thing to say and it's about the Yelp reviews the other people post giving this place 1 star. This place is busy because of how awesome it is. There are 2 vets I believe, working their tushes off saving sick animals that are coming to them in high numbers, and getting them all taken care of in a timely fashion considering the amount of patients they have. They deserve a lot more credit than a 1 star review. It is important to take a deep breath and realize the situation. Patience is a virtue. Back to the positives... This place is ALWAYS there when my boys need them. They always recommend everything he needs and it always ends up making him feel better soon on the same day... always. This is again amazing considering how busy they are. They were able to help me track down crystals in my dog's urine just by minor symptoms that I thought could be a tad unusual. This was diagnosed in the blink of an eye and thanks to New River it was only another blink before Kenai started feeling himself again. If it weren't for the awesome team at new river, my boy could've gotten bladder stones and been in loads of pain. My heart could not take that. You can tell that their priority is to care for your animals. I've been to some places where you don't feel that type of love. This place rocks. Another thing, I am a 21 year old working really hard to support both my dogs' and my own health, both my boyfriend and I. New River's prices are the most generous I've seen. You don't spend an arm and a leg and there are options with payments. I hate to bring covid into this, but during the high point of covid they were awesome with keeping safe and they kept their prices lower because of the horrible work loss everyone was going through. I'm not sure what all these bad reviews are about, that breaks my heart! I have been taking my animals to New River Vet for about 3 years now. I used to have a very temperamental Doberman who they were amazing and very patient with. I took her there the whole time I owned her, I have taken my cat there multiple times and now I am taking my puppy there. I live in Chandler and will gladly make the hour drive to take my pets here. I took my sick dog to New River Vet and found the Vet Sarah Kain's treatments far below normal standards of care. I had called this vet prior to bringing my dog in, to confirm their services were available (Covid-19 restrictions and emergency needs), I was assured they could provide emergency care (at an increased cost) so I agreed and brought her in. My dog was promptly welcomed into the clinic, she was assessed by the vet and provided treatments negligible to her acute care needs. My dog was hypotensive and the vet gave her subcutaneous fluid instead of an IV bolus, she was hypoglycemic and the vet gave her oral glucose instead of IV glucose. I requested bloodwork (prior to coming in to the vet) and after her blood was drawn the vet said their equipment had already been broken and that repair person was coming to fix it, and bloodwork results would be returned the following morning. Just these 3 things are each critical to providing acute care to an emergently sick dog - which is why I brought my dog there, paid the extra emergency fee, called before I got there. I addressed these things with the vet - she refused to acknowledge her accountability in these 3 areas. I brought my dog to another vet that day where my dog was immediately given all three of these things... As a caring and medically knowledgeable person, none of what this vet did is acceptable, especially in comparison to the fact that the next vet did all of these necessary things. AMAZING!!!! Over the weekend I realized my dog was suffering from a double ear infection and She needed to see a vet. Since we are new to the area I just went on google. They got me in the next day. The girl scheduling the appt was so sweet. From the start I felt good about this place. I was right. The staff is amazing ... so sweet and friendly. The vet dr Sarah is also fantastic. She was so wonderful with my pup. And the prices were so good!! I was expecting to pay so much more. I left with a huge smile on my face as did my dog! Thank you New River Vet Hospital!!!! POOR COMMUNICATION. The techs rather than the doctors bringing out animals after surgeries, leaving phone messages with results of labs (especially if there is a problem) and delivering instructions and explanations is not sufficient and done too quickly without literature to reference. They simply did not have the knowledge base to explain why my dog's liver enzymes were not within normal limits. When the tech couldn't answer our questions after surgery she said the vet would call. We received a message the next day at 1:30pm while I was at work. My spouse had to go in because our instructions essentially were never given. When he did the FO person was trying to play middle man. He eventually had to tell them, "sorry no- i need to talk to the doctor." We take the care of our animal very seriously and to not have the information to care for him in the first days after surgery is a failure on the veterinarian's part and is nothing less than unacceptable and negligent. I messaged the vet about my concerns to search out more communication about how to care for my dog post op. She argued that they tried "multiple times" which wasn't true instead of engaging in constructive and helpful communication. She also tried to gaslight me into believing I didn't have questions. That was also untrue. She wasn't present for my questions so how would she know unless someone told her I didn't have questions? I had lots of questions but the tech couldn't answer them and said the vet was too busy to come answer them and would call me later that day. Which she attempted to do the next day at 1:30pm while i was at work We take the care of our animal very seriously. Not having the information to care for him in the first days after surgery is a failure on the veterinarian's part and is nothing less than unacceptable and negligent. read more

I brought my baby here and he was initially diagnosed with an upper respiratory infection without further testing. He was given fluids and antibiotics. After a week he was not getting better, I made another appointment. This time they did more testing. My first appointment was just under $150 dollars, the second appointment was just over $610 dollars. We left our second appointment with a diagnosis of "more than likely valley fever" and "we will not know until we get the bloodwork and the xray evaluation" with fluids to administer via IV over the weekend. The following week they called us and let us know they put in the prescription for valley fever after the xray evaluation and they still did not have the bloodwork back. We would have to wait for the pharmacy to call us to have it filled within a few days. I ended up contacting the pharmacy myself and that initial call was not pleasant. Meanwhile, my baby is still sick, after about three weeks from our initial appointment. About $80 dollars and two days later, I finally had my baby's prescription. (This was a summary of my first posting) I did not say anything negative about any staff member, nor did I say anything negative about this facility. I simply provided a description of the services and prices that were provided and my experience with this buisness. Last night at about 9:30 my baby ventured outside and was bit by a snake. I did not see the snake, but he came inside with puncture wounds and a swollen face. I rushed him to Vet Med off of the 101, he recived antivenom, fluids and pain medication. They let me know that I needed to get follow up care with my vet. This morning, I called new river vet clinic to see about getting my baby looked at, as I was instructed too by the animal emergency hospital. I was placed on hold by the receptionist and then someone answered stating that she read my Google review and that she was confused as to why, if I was so unhappy with their services that I would call them. This led to a heated discussion with whomever it was I was talking too. For all intensive purposes, this was my babies vet and who is the closest to my home. I was more then happy to keep my buisness here no matter the experience the first time...until this phone call... He was bit by a snake and needed follow up care after his emergency room visit. He should have been the focus of the conversation! Not "I read your Google review....." The individual that I spoke with was unprofessional and lacked tact! My baby should have been your concern Ma'am, not my review! I would have hoped you wanted to change my initial perception of your buisness, not hinder it further by confronting a sad concerned doggy mommy that just wanted her baby to feel better!!!!!! read more

Too busy for me and my dog. I was sick and did not want to get anyone else sick so I did not make my appt. when I called to reschedule was told I'd have to start the sequence of vaccines again as they could not get my dog in in the allotted time frame. Earliest appt they had was two weeks even tho the shot had to be done in the next 7 days and took 5 minutes. When I said I would try to get it elsewhere they wished me luck and said I would not find anything. I found something for two days later. Very disappointed in stAff. The staff at New River Veterinary Hospital truly impressed me with their professionalism, generosity, and kindness. Recently, my cat needed emergency care. I called the hospital close to their closing time to see if I could bring her in, and they agreed to see her, staying open past their closing time to accommodate. They provided excellent care, and I was blown away when I saw my bill - an emergency visit in most Phoenix-area veterinary hospitals would have easily cost twice as much, if not more. My 11 year old shepherd Daisy was having several issues and appeared to be experiencing increasing discomfort at a rapid pace. I was really worried that her end was near. I took my dog in for a limp that wasn't getting better. I was able to get an appointment quickly and was seen shortly after arriving for my appointment. They suggested a couple courses of actions from valley fever testing, x-rays and rest along with pain medication. We ended up testing for valley fever and rest with medications. I've been taking my animals to them for over 20 years, I wouldn't trust anyone with my animals besides them. I look forward to another 20 plus years with them! read more

We have been going to Dr. Sarah for a couple of years now. Last week we had to make the horrible decision to let our dog Jake go over the rainbow bridge. He was suffering. The compassion shown by the entire staff was overwhelming. Dr. Sarah was wonderful and caring and everything we needed. The same can be said for everyone in her office.
