The last time that I stayed at the Desert Rose, I had a very unpleasant experience to say the least. Sebastian and I agreed that I would be staying in the small bedroom for the month of August and potentially longer. The night of my arrival, I got in late and noticed that there was a person sleeping in the bedroom that was supposed to be mine for the month. I unpacked my things in the room next door because it was available. After unpacking my things the next day, I asked Sebastian about what I believed to be a change of rooms and he let me know that he expected me to change rooms one week into my stay. I explained to him that I would rather have payed more to stay at the room I was in than have to change rooms midway through my stay. After an uncomfortable conversation, he told me I could stay in the room I was already in. That same night, I texted him letting him know that I would no longer be able to stay for the month of September. I let him know that I wanted to give him as much notice as possible. At this point, it was around 10pm at night. Through text, he changed his mind, he wanted me to once again, change rooms. When I informed him that I did not want to change rooms, I could hear him angrily approaching the room I was in. He started loudly banging on the door. This scared me because Sebastian is a bigger guy and I am a small female who was traveling alone. I did not want him to enter, especially because it was so late but felt like I didn't have a choice. When Sebastian barged in, he proceeded to use a very loud tone of voice to tell me that he would call the cops on me if I didn't change my rooms when he desired. He was only in his underwear and closed the door behind him. He stood blocking the door while I was on the bed. This incident terrified me to say the least. I started raising my voice because I wanted the other people in the house to hear what was happening in the scenario it got violent or inappropriate. The next day I called the police to help me get my things out of the house because I was still shaken by the incident. I knew that it wound't be safe for me to continue being in the house. When Sebastian saw the police, he looked at me and told me that he wouldn't be giving me a refund as a result. I had payed Sebastian to stay at the Desert Rose for an entire month, and I left on day 6. I wanted to write a review so that potential customers are aware of the type of business being run at the Desert Rose. Not to mention, the WiFi connection was terrible. read more

Our first Bed & Breakfast! As this was our first B&B, I can't compare Desert Rose B&B to any other... but I will say, I loved this place! We were greeted at the front door by Nathan and given a tour of the house and property. He was extremely professional and we really enjoyed talking with him and picking his brain for things to do in the area. Sebastien was great as well, via phone, giving us recommendations of local dinner spots and step by step directions when we got close to the B&B. This place is more like a home away from home. Nestled in a small neighborhood in Cottonwood, AZ, this large 5 bedroom home sits on a nice 1.5 acre piece of property and is so centrally located, we couldn't of asked for more! Just minutes away from the Historic Mining Town of Jerome, Down Town Cottonwood, Sedona, local vineyards, Montezuma's Castle & Well... as well as a great stopover location to the Grand Canyon-which we later visited. (about a 2 1/2 hour drive to Grand Canyon South Rim Village) We stayed in the upstairs suite (we nicknamed the Desert Rose). An over sized room with attached full bathroom, walk in double head rain shower, 2 person whirlpool spa tub, small refrigerator, tv/ dvd player and King size bed, which was extremely comfortable and accommodating for our 2 night stay. Additional perk - they provided shampoo, conditioner & body wash, which meant we didn't have to pack it! Whoohoo! Guests have access to the entire house (minus the kitchen) and grounds, which include a small farm with llamas, which they will provide fresh fruit and hay to feed them in the morning, a relaxing water feature on the side of the house, plenty of seating areas throughout the property to enjoy a bottle of wine you may have picked up at a handful of local vineyards, swimming pool & spa (seasonal), small trellis of grapevines and lanterns and large grass area. (although we went in the winter months and everything was bare.. I could imagine how lovely it must be in the spring, summer & fall months). A deluxe continental breakfast is included and the Inn Keeper's, Sebastien & Betty, will make fresh eggs to your likings. There is a variety of cereals, breads, fresh fruit, yogurt, coffee, tea, milk, juice & hot cocoa. However, if you have any special requests, they seem quite accommodating if you just give them a heads up. House also includes: Use of a microwave, which they also provide popcorn for late night snacks. A selection of DVD's, VHS & Books. Use of communal tv's & stereo system. Plenty of seating areas inside and out. Variety of pamphlets, maps & flyers of local attractions, vineyards and things to do. And best of all, the knowledge of the owners! We really truly enjoyed our stay! Betty is a kind lady with tons of fun stories and information. Her and Nathan, her nephew and additional help, made us feel welcome and at home. Today (Oct 13, 2018) we had a paid-in-full reservation (confirmed also) coming up to the Sedona area for the weekend. 9:30am when we were already up the hill (from Phoenix area) the owner called, told us that he had double-booked and was canceling our reservation. Not sure what else to say. Canceled our place to stay for the night on the day we were staying. To top that, the owner was not even apologetic. 0 stars if possible but I'm fairly sure one star speaks for itself. read more

This is mislabeled as Desert Rose Bed and Breakfast when it should be called Desert Rose Bed. Ok, I guess technically they feed you, but not nearly anything like any other B&B. I cannot vouch either way for the property because I didn't see any of the amenities in the daylight. Breakfast the first morning was waffles made on the thing they have at the Super 8 breakfast. But she makes it for you and you get one. The second morning it was the infamous 2 bites of COLD spinach quiche. Now, it was cold, but edible with a little salt and I was hungry. I asked for seconds and was met with her looking at the clock and saying, "I think breakfast is over but I guess I can see what I can do". Raised eyebrows all around at the table. The sign in the dining room says breakfast is from 8-9:30, and it was 9:10. But I got my second 2 bites and was happy. The coffee was awful. Grab some couple hours old gas station coffee on the way in, you'll be happy you did. The room was clean and the giant bathroom was nice. The box springs were on the floor with the mattress atop them with a nice bed frame around it. Double showers! We were excited about that until the hot water lasted about 6 minutes. Only time to wash? We all know that's not what double showers are for. Fiona is in dire need of a bra. She didn't have one on at any time we saw her. this charming b & b is nestled about 15 minutes in between jerome and sedona, az. the grounds are green and large. the house is beautifully decorated with 3 bedrooms. i recommend the master with private bath. sebastian, his wife and 2 darling kiddo's are the friendly family that greet you. great place for a vacation spot or for you locals who need a break from life. sebastian had a delicious assortment of foods for breakfast and would help us plan our days over the meal. lots of common areas but with privacy in your room. highly recommended and can't wait to go back! read more

I traveled all the way from cold, stressful Washington, DC to have a great girls trip to the wineries and to stay at a local B and B. Well the winery part was fantastic. The B and B not so much. First off to even call this a B and B is a stretch. The proper description would be a hostel...our as my girls and I named it the hostile hostel. I know many B and B's are in residential areas. However, there is not one appealing thing about this neighborhood. We thought for sure the navigation took us in the wrong direction. No, low and behold there is Desert Rose B and B, smack in the middle of this run down part of town. Well maybe things would get better once we got inside. That was wishful thinking. Upon entering we were greeted with the pleasant smell of over cooked microwaved meat. Then on to our "Deluxe" room that was right off the lobby. Now if this is considered deluxe I surely would not want to see the other rooms. The floor was cracked concrete. There were holes in our threadbare sheets. One window was covered in what we hoped was a protective film but just looked like dirt. The other window opened to the patio. Ideally this would be a nice view except the window is about 2 feet below the patio. Lets just say if a lady wearing a dress were eating out there it would not be too difficult to see a few private parts. We decide to get some rest and the three of us could all fit comfortably on the king size bed. Finally...a positive note. As we are resting there is a knock at the door. Well it is a couple looking to check in. Yes, having a room right near the lobby people will mistaken it for a office. After telling the nice couple that we are patrons as well, it was clear that the thought of staying there over night was not sitting well with me. We collectively decided to just drive back to Phoenix and have a nice evening at my friends house. So total time at this so called B and B was about and hour. We surely did not want to see the rest of this establishment .The unfortunate part was my friend was out of the money she spent for our outing. Please do not get fooled like my friend by these 4 and 5 star ratings. This place is at best a 2 or 3 star hostel. The pictures look great, I totally agree, but hey my 5 year old nephew can edit a picture on a smart phone these days. Note to Desert Rose B and B owners. If you labeled your business correctly...as a hostel instead of a B and B maybe people would not feel like they were getting the short end of the stick. Overall I think most would agree that a hostel can get away with a few things that a B and B can't. You would then attract people who are maybe looking for just the basics in their stay. My wife and I flew into Arizona for a quick weekend wedding. Desert Rose was the highest rated hotel we could find (apparently Prescott/Sedona is really busy in late July). A few reflections on desert rose b&b. 1- owner operated. The owner, Sebastian, woke up and prepared the organic continental bfast early to accommodate our flight timeline. 2- Well maintained property. A beautiful tree lined driveway takes you to a well maintained home with a pool & garden featuring a relaxing waterfall. 3- llamas. You read this correctly. My wife and I had fun feeding carrots to the llamas, made some goofy videos as well. Over all a fantastic experience, they only accept Paypal payment which may be an issue for people that don't get along with the web. Yes! Loved this place! We went here this past weekend for a quick getaway and it was just amazing!! The owner, Sebastian, is a super awesome guy. Very down to earth and runs a good honest business. We were treated like family (in a good way of course) When we booked our room, we got a package that came with first class tickets to the Verde Canyon Railroad! It was an amazing experience and so relaxing. We even met a bald eagel :) The breakfast at first may seem like nothing but we were actually pretty full. We had granola with strawberries and some toast! Coffee was ready early which was good since I can't function without it! The property was gorgeous with big trees that provided shade, a relaxing waterfall that you can sit by and the llamas...oh yes the llamas! You can feed the llamas, pony and goat that are all on property. So cool and different! The beds were heavenly. I almost didn't get out of bed both mornings because it was so comfy! I think next time, we will go on the wine tour that they provide because it sounds like fun. We will definitely come back very soon! Thank you for a memorable weekend!! read more

I bought a Living Social deal for this B&B for an inexpensive stay near the northern AZ wineries. The location is convenient to Old Town Cottonwood and Sedona; however, it is in an odd location for a B&B, among other homes, many of which are run-down. The B&B itself hosts chickens, llamas, and a goat, so if you are expecting a 5-star resort, this isn't it. But it is a quaint establishment with friendly staff who do their best to accommodate you. We made arrangements for early November well ahead of time and had no issues confirming them. Received a phone call that someone would be available to let us in at the time we specified, and she showed us around as soon as we arrived. We had the largest room with the private bathroom (large jetted tub and double shower!). Renovated and very clean, the only issue we noted was that the bathroom doorframe was cracked/in need of paint where it looked like someone had pried it open with a crowbar. The pool was closed for the season, but the hot tub was available, should we have wanted to use it. Breakfast consisted of cereal/oatmeal, fruit, yogurt, juice, etc., plus quiche one day and eggs fresh from the chickens the next. We did spend some time feeding the llamas and goat out front. The common areas have comfortable sofas and are equipped with lots of games, books, wine glasses, etc., fine for just hanging out. We did not take the wine tour, though it was included, preferring to drive ourselves at our own pace, but we did run into the group from the B&B at one of the stops and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. In speaking with the owner, we learned that he had opened the B&B during the worst of the recession and has been doing his best to keep it open. I, for one, applaud him for his efforts, and hope that he is able to do even more with the property as the economy gets better. read more

My husband and I really enjoyed our stay here. The wine tour was lead by an excellent host, Betty, who is so nice. We stayed in the compact room which was nice, but we will stay in the bigger en-suite next time. Very disappointing. The photos posted here are old and not representative of how this place looks today. The room we rented was so small you could barely move. There is a shared bath, the fan does not work, there was no soap for shower. The bathroom by the main entry had no hot water, the door knob does not lock. There is no heat. Wow! I try to check in at 3:15 but they told me no check until 4 PM. Came back at 8:30 PM had to wait 30 minutes for someone to let me in. No bathroom en suite! Nothing in the advertising indicated that I would not have a bathroom to myself. When I asked for a room with a bathroom, they told me it would cost an extra $60 a night! My sheets have a strange hairs in them and are very threadbare, and there are smashed bugs on the walls. Raw concrete floors. I will never, ever stay here again and I recommend that you don't either. I was really looking forward to patronizing locally owned lodging in Cottonwood. Should've stuck with the tried-and-true chain. read more

I called this b&b to get more info on their packages for an anniversary trip that I am planning and it went to voicemail, so I sent them an email letting them know what I was interested in and asking for pricing. I got an email back just saying "yes I have that available." A day later I received another email saying "are you still interested in booking?" I responded, again asking for pricing based on what I was looking for. This time I also asked how payment is made, and about the 50% discount on Yelp. I didn't receive a response. I tried to call again, and yet again got the voicemail. It took 5 days to get a response by email, and they said they did not know what discount I was talking about on Yelp. Needless to say I booked my anniversary trip somewhere else. read more

The worst bed and breakfast I've ever stayed at. The place needs significant upgrading. Breakfast is marginal. The hot meal portions are rationed. The bathrooms need major work. The location is terrible. They are located right next to a junk yard. Advertised prices vary and are not always honored by the owner- who is not on site. While the facilities were nice and food was good, we were overcharged by $196.82. I called Sebastian twice to get it resolved and each time he said he'd take care of it but I ended up having to file a dispute on my card. The package was supposed to be all inclusive of the B&B and the Verde Valley train ride and we got charged the package plus the Verde Valley vendor charged me as well! Not cool! read more

The room itself was nice and clean. The Host was very nice. But, the place looked nothing like the pictures on like. There was no grass and no trees. The breakfast was dry toast and eggs. Whereas most B&Bs they go out of their way with a feast, like the Surgeons house. Also, the place is situated in a part of town that looks like a trailer park. When you drive into the yard of this B&B you also expect some unsavory characters, as there are broken down cars and broken chairs everywhere, it really looked like you were in the Ghetto. The actual house was not bad. But that kinda dampened the experience. I's rather drive 20 min to Jerome to the Surgeons House which is by FAR the best B&B in that area. Sorry. My husband and I decided to take a weekend to get away from the city and find some relaxation. The Desert Rose definitely exceeded all of our expectations. This bed and breakfast is very quiet and cozy with a lot to do nearby. We rode bicycles around the nearby properties and fed the animals that they have outback. The owner, Sebastian, drove us around to three or four different wineries and helped us get all kinds of deals or specials. The gal who was working was a big help in pointing us in the right direction of great restaurants to grab a bite. Breakfast at the Desert Rose was better than expected and was always plentiful and ready each morning. We will definitely be visiting again! read more

My girlfriend and I stayed here for 2 nights after being in Sierra Vista for a few months and it was a very pleasant experience. Fiona greeted us at the door like we were family she hadn't seen in a long time and was super helpful and polite with everything we needed. The breakfast was on point with giant protein waffles one morning with an assortment of cereal, fruit, orange juice, milk, and coffee. The grounds itself were beautiful with big trees for shade and a patio area with a fire pit. And the fountain in the back yard added to the appeal of the place. The fruit trees on the other side of the pool were great to snag a plum or apricot while exploring the area. In all it was great experience almost like coming home after a long trip. Barely 2 stars...just because the room was clean, comfortable and private. The rest of the B&B experience was disappointing. Unlike many of the other B&B's we have stayed in the breakfast was poor. A thin 2 bite serving of Spinach quiche. Cold cereal and a toaster for your half frozen English muffin. The 8AM breakfast preparation took all of 10 minutes and only regular coffee was available. A request for decaf was met with " I guess I can find some" as opposed to other places we have stayed in their always was a hot pot of each. Fresh fruit, a staple at most B&B's was non existent except for some bananas. It would have been nice if we were offered eggs and bacon or maybe some pancakes...oh well.... Now for the premises...when you drive up you enter this narrow driveway that is really a washboard in disguise...an unpaved dirt road...The front of the place is not too visually appealing....It was 103 degrees the day we arrived and I was going to use the pool until I saw it...light green water, dirt on the bottom and the surrounding patio deck had not been cleaned in days/weeks. Patio chairs filthy and tree branches strewn throughout....get the picture? Lastly, we booked the Verde Railroad package for which we paid in advance and for which the proprietor charged our credit card IN ADVANCE of our arrival. When we got to the railroad box office we were told there was a problem with the B&B's credit card and we had to pay for the tickets with our card if we wanted to ride the railroad that day. So, in conclusion, let me just say it was a learning experience for us... We enjoyed Lovely Cottonwood and when we return we will be staying at the centrally located downtown Tavern Hotel. read more

My husband and I booked this B&B last minute for a pre Valentines Day celebration after visiting Jerome. It was delightful :) Fiona was friendly and accommodating. The rooms were beautiful and everything was clean. It is not a 5 star resort but it is a home away from home and that's exactly what we wanted. We went there to celebrate my birthday. The room was great and clean. The bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was very simple with fruit, cereals, breads, jams along with coffee, tea etc. Maybe the breakfast could be improved by offering a little larger selection maybe waffles or pancakes. It was fun feeding the llamas and goat. Sebastian the proprietor was extremely helpful with getting us tickets for the railroad and western show, he also helped with recommendations and directions. OK...I've been meaning to write this review for a long time but life got away from me. My daughter and I had the pleasure of staying with Sebastian and his family over July 4th weekend and what a pleasure it was. Our schedule required some flexibility on the part of our hosts as my daughter was meeting me there (she's in the Marines) and they were very accommodating. First of all, the house is absolutely lovely. It is well furnished, clean and has just the right amount of privacy while feeling like we were being welcomed into someone's home. I was a bit concerned that we would feel awkward being a mother/daughter pair rather than a couple, but it was not uncomfortable at all. We felt very welcome both by our hosts and by the other guests. The home was comfortable, the location was convenient for us (for hiking in Sedona while not wanting to be in the heart of the tourist area) and food was wonderful and healthy. And, come on...llamas...what more can be said? We stayed on the top floor, which also had me concerned due to the temperatures being over 100 degrees but the air conditioning units were more than sufficient. The whole place had a really nice homie feel that was just relaxing and comforting. Enjoyed a quiet and restful couple days. The large master en suite was perhaps smaller than expected, but the bathroom is large. Nice comfy king bed. The grounds are neat and the owners have ample supply of carrots for guests to feed the llamas. The place is in a quiet rural area with awesome stars at night due to the light pollution ordinance. The owners cooked up a great quiche one day, and eggs our way the next. Add yummy homemade jam to the mix. Always a treat to meet fellow travelers at the breakfast table. read more

My boyfriend and I decided to get away for just a night and found the Desert Rose Bed and Breakfast online. Honestly pulling up to the residence I was a little skeptical myself because of the surrounding area but after pulling up to the house and meeting the hostess Betty and seeing the tour all worries went away. We stayed in the compact room which was very clean. Even though we had to share the bathroom with another couple, it was not a problem and were not inconvenienced in the slightest. My boyfriend and I were able to come and go at our leisure and felt like we had just the right amount of privacy. Also had similar experience with this Place as Keri had, but a little different. I had contact the proprietor via E-mail (he wouldn't take my calls) in regards to using the Living Social deal, he said that I needed to reserve on the website and that I would only get charged the taxes, but he charged me the full amount of $450 (est) to my credit card for 4 night stay. He said he would fix it, but then did not 2 weeks later. I contacted Living Social to see what is going on with this establishment; they contacted him and got a HOSTILE response. I asked living social to refund me my amount paid and immediately contact my credit card company and got a dispute started for a refund. Long Story short, checkout the website before buying ANY living social deals. There was no way to insert any living social deal into his website without being charged the full amount for the room. It was difficult to contact the proprietor via phone and set the reservation. After all this, I didn't want to stay at a place that was very questionable in how they made reservations. I made other arrangements for the area this weekend. All I have to say is that what the proprietor is doing is very questionable is all I have to say... read more

After confirming availability on website, then calling proprietor (Sebastian) to confirm, sending an email with requested dates (as instructed by Sebastian) and following up days later via phone (to which we were informed we were all set, Sebastian had been too busy with work to get back to us) when we hadn't head back, Sebastian failed to secure our reservation and we were left without a place to stay to celebrate our anniversary. We found this out when he finally responded, days later and 2 days before our trip, to yet another request for confirmation. In that and subsequent responses, Sebastian failed to show an ounce of compassion or offer any solutions other than to obtain a refund via Living Social (which only provides refunds in 1st 30 days - we were beyond that). Long story short, it cost us $400 to salvage our anniversary weekend (and planned time away from our 6 kids). To say we were disappointed is an understatement. Based on my experience, the reviews of others, and there basic offerings of Desert Rose, Sebastian has A LOT to learn in the BnB business!!!! We were disappointed with our experience at the Desert Rose. First of all - if you go up on the website and book there as we did, the pictures shown of the property are several years old and do not depict the property as it appears today.The beautiful grounds you see in the pictures on the website, are not well-kept; grass was 8 inches high with weeds and large dead areas. The landscaped drive into the property appears lighted at night; there are now no lights and the bushes are overgrown; the gate to the drive is falling off. We booked the full size room shown on the website - actually, there is only one room that is updated in that manner. We were shown to another "full size" room upstairs; the carpet had spots, the bath fixtures were dated. The carpet in the part of the hallway was not installed, but rather glued down in chunks, with raw edges showing. We were greeted by a housekeeper who spoke halting English; we never saw the owner or anyone else during our entire visit. There were no snacks (carrots in the refrig for a few critters that are corralled on the property); our room was not made up at all during our 2-day stay. The maid told us the lady who does the breakfasts was gone for the weekend, so we would need to go out to breakfast (the inn gave us coupons to use at a restaurant). As we had a tour picking us up at the property the next morning; we had to get up extra early so we could go to a restaurant and be back for the pick-up. We were not told what the arrangements would be for breakfast on the 2nd morning; I tried to find someone to ask but never saw a soul. I tried to call the owner Sebastien; the call went to voicemail, with a message that the mailbox was full. We tried to call Sebastien 3 times during our stay and could never reach him. At one point, I returned in the afternoon; my husband was up in the room with our key. Someone had locked the front door and I could not get in; went to ring the bell hoping someone would hear me, only to find the doorbell is removed with wires hanging out of the wall. Since there was no employee on-site, no one heard my knocking from outside in the 100-degree+ heat. I finally found a back entrance through the "private" area and was able to get in. We left the next morning - no goodbyes, no thank yous - no one was there - again. Bottom line - the website is totally misleading - it may represent the B&B at a point in time, but that time is long gone. read more

Booked two nights, the house is beautiful. The drive there was crazy, accident, rain... traffic. Sebastian texted multiple times asking where we are, when we will be there. Earlier in the day I told him we are driving up and we should be there around 5ish. He said more like 5:30. He texted two other times while we were rushing asking what our status is... total turn off. It is our vacation, I have never had a B&B owner text so many times. By the time we got there it was 6:05 and I was having anxiety. Besides that our room was nice, sharing a shower was weird. The guy in the smaller room was very loud and kept getting up and making a ton of restroom noise. He must have had boom boom problems as he kept going and making a ton of boom boom noise and showering a few times thru the night. Our room was lovely besides that, odd that the cleaning lady came in without asking and there aren't do not disturb tags. I would rather not have a stranger go into our room without us knowing. About breakfast and Betty, she was absolutely sweet. Fed us breakfast and hung out with us. I think she made our stay absolutely wonderful. She gets 5 starts for me, the house, yard was beautiful. Would never book a place that shares a bathroom and a shower (this one backed up against our room). I agree the neighborhood isn't great but their property is wonderful. I would consider staying there again just to see Betty and have her breakfast and feed the lamas. Huge negative, they have a pool, the photo is listed on many travel web sites... but is private and not for visitors. Thought that was very odd, pool but for their private use. read more

This place was just ok. Honestly, after looking at the pictures on here I was pretty disappointed with the B&B - it looks more run down and outdated than the pictures suggest. Also, it is located in a not so great area in Cottonwood, surrounded by some pretty run-down homes in a residential neighborhood. The decor looks older and outdated. Also, one reviewer stated that you get eggs cooked to order - this is not the case. Breakfast consisted of bread, butter, jam, peanut butter, yogurt, fruit and cereal (also coffee and juice). The llamas are not kept out front as the picture suggests but are located behind a fence and can only be seen by standing next to the owner's house (next to the B&B) and are accessible through only a small area (about 6 feet). The grounds were just ok - a little run down. They had a pool and hot tub that were not in service and they had a "garden" which was just a path through some bushes. This could be beautiful if they made it into a real garden and fixed up the landscaping. The bathroom in the room had only a sink and toilet and we had to share a bathroom with a shower (also not stated in the information). We bought a living social voucher to stay here which supposedly included a wine package but really all that meant was a ride to some local vineyards (which were really fun - we just expected to have some tastings included in a "wine package"). Overall, I would not recommend this place to anyone as I feel it is not at all what I expected and I will not be returning. I must say, however, that Sebastian was very nice and accommodating - and we did meet some great people - it was just not at all the experience I was expecting. read more
