We visited the Grand Canyon, stayed in Fairfax, spent time in the national park, Phoenix, and Sedona--but by far, the best place we stayed was the Matterhorn Inn in Sedona. Not only was it the most reasonably priced, but it also offered the largest and most comfortable living space of all the places we stayed. The service was phenomenal. Just a couple of blocks away (not the closest café you can see from the hotel, but absolutely worth the short walk), there's an amazing coffee shop serving delicious, made-from-scratch breakfast fare. Parking was easy, and the views were absolutely breathtaking. Sedona offers so many hiking trails and outdoor activities--it's a destination in itself. The Matterhorn was the perfect base for it all. What really stood out, though, was the honesty and integrity of the staff. One night, my son decided to sleep on the couch and accidentally lost his earbuds in the cushions. We had no idea where he'd left them. Days after we returned home, I received a call from the Matterhorn letting us know they had found his earbuds and would mail them back. They arrived yesterday in perfect condition. We were so grateful! We also enjoyed their clean and well-maintained pool and hot tub during our stay. Such a lovely place to stay. Big room and the location is walking distance to many restaurants, shops and tour places. We loved chilling by the outdoor fireplace and nice pool. The staff is polite and helpful too. I loved the location and our big room. We saw a lot of cool birds as it sits on a hill up always. If you take a short walk around the back, you'll get the most beautiful views of the red rocks and the full moon that happened the week we were there. We stayed 3 nights and had it cleaned once. Staff were friendly. Our room was 101 with great views of the main road and mountains, large balcony. We didn't use pool area. Pros: Location! It's right on the main street of the uptown part of Sedona. The view from the room was also excellent. We got the king-bed, dog-friendly room on the first floor with a balcony. Obviously, they are dog-friendly and gave us a little bowl of food, a toy, and treats when we checked in. The room was clean, new, and spacious. The shower/bathroom was also very nice. Cons: The wall was very thin; we could hear the guy snoring next door and other noises. (I put on the white noise, and that helped me to go to sleep.) The check-in is later than standard, but check-out is early, considering the check-in time: 4 pm check-in and 10 am checkout. The bed was too soft. Breakfast: I wouldn't call it breakfast, but you get granola bars, apples, oranges and coffee. Overall, this was a nice place to stay in Sedona for the price. Sedona became very expensive over the years, and this place was a good value for a day stay. We got into town around 7pm and checked in easily. Their lobby is only staffed til 9. All the parking for Matterhorn was taken, but you can park in the 3 hr lot with the parking pass they give you and on the street across from the hotel. We had our two small dogs with us ($33 extra per dog per night) and the rooms are basic, but well updated and spacious. Enjoyed the views from our balcony! Must book or ask for a specifically dog friendly room as not all rooms allow dogs. Got a late check out for 11am vs their regular 10am check out time. They have gift doggy bags for your pups with a paper bowl for food or water, poop bags, treats and a toy. They have a small gated pet relief area at one end of the hotel that was very useful as there's not a lot of grassy areas for the pups to go. Higher end brand amenities in the bathroom (shampoo, conditioner, etc...). They gave us a restaurant list that shows which places are dog friendly too! read more

The bed is beyond comfortable. We had the best sleep of our trip here. The balcony views are awesome. Service is friendly. As I've said in the past, I tend to be skeptical of independent (non-affiliated) hotels and motels, because I never know what to expect from a property that doesn't have to adhere to the brand standards of their franchise agreement or owner. That said, I was really happy that I stayed at the Matterhorn Inn in Sedona. This boutique motel is located on State Route 89A, just north of the traffic circle where Route 89A intersects with State Route 179, and within a stone's throw (thrown by an average person, I expect) of all of the restaurants and shops in "Uptown" Sedona. The property is a solid three-plus star motel -- with less than 20 large and clean rooms that all feature a gorgeous view of the Sedona landscape and friendly, helpful staff. Our room on the first floor had easy access to the motel's parking lot on Mountain View Drive as well as sliding glass doors that opened onto the patio overlooking State Route 89A. Our room had been recently updated and featured a comfortable king-size bed, a large LED television with extensive selection of content (even though it's a terrible idea to spend your time in Sedona watching TV in your hotel room rather than exploring the outdoor activities), a small but functional workspace with WiFi, plenty of storage for our luggage, and a bathroom with a large vanity that had more than enough space for me and my traveling companion. Our room wasn't serviced during our two-night stay, but the two of us had plenty of clean towels while we were there. I'm not sure if that's the hotel's policy for short stays or an oversight on their part. Our interactions with the hotel staff were limited to check-in and check-out, but they were always friendly and helpful to offer recommendations for restaurants and activities. The hotel doesn't offer breakfast, but a selection of complimentary coffee/tea/cocoa and granola bars are available in the office. Parking in the hotel lot is limited, but additional overnight parking is available in the public parking lot across the street. Pro Tip: Guests may want to note that the lobby is only open during certain hours -- not 24/7 as might be the case at a larger property -- so, call ahead to confirm early check-outs or late check-ins. read more

We decided to do a crazy thing and go out of town for the New Years weekend! (Totally not my husband's jam) but HE booked it! We chose the Matterhorn Inn on the edge of town. It is completely redone with nice fit and finish, the staff are wonderful and very helpful. There is a little garb and go coffee and snack counter, where you can grab a snack before your hike or bike! We did day mountain bike rides, grabbed food from the grocery store, then came back for a jacuzzi dip before heading out to explore! Bed was comfortable but I do miss our pillows ( I little puffy for us). Did I mention we had a patio also?! Check them out! read more

Great location with shops/food within walking distance to not deal with traffic. Beautiful views. Updated rooms. Kuerig in room. I didn't compare pricing much to other places.. paid $400 a night. Get up early as the people upstairs will wake you. Breakfast (bars, fruit, yogurt) doesn't start until 8 which is unfortunate as many people are on the road at 6/7 am. Unfortunately I purposefully chose this place as it's advertised that the pool is heated in April. read more

We just checked out of Matterhorn Inn after staying for four nights this past week. We found the location to be great - in uptown and easily walkable to stores, restaurants, and parking wasn't a problem. Our room was quiet spacious with one king size bed. Everything was very nicely remodeled and clean. The staff was great, and checked in with us daily to see if we wanted fresh towels and our trash emptied. The view from the backslider and patio was amazing, with Snoopy Rock greeting you each time you look out. The pool is small, but there is a pool and a jacuzzi. I didn't think the pool was as essential for a spring break trip, so it wasn't a big deal for us. Theia's just behind Matterhorn is great for a mocha in the morning, and Elote Cafe is just past Theia's. I'd stay here again if we visit Sedona in the future. read more

This place doesn't look bad from the outside because it was recently renovated...that's where it ends though; it was all downhill after that. The place seemed deserted but the desk clerk claimed they were almost sold out...funny, standard canned reply. The one staff guy looked about 19 and mean't well but wearing a t-shirt and not even knowing what Matterhorn means is not presenting a professional image. I've met more knowledgeable and professional staff at hostels in Europe for 25 euros a night. I asked to see a room and while the king bed was nice, the decor is extremely tacky and cartoonish. The view is blocked by the main Street tourist shops and after all the renovation the guy was touting there was not even a bathtub in the room. He quoted a price of about $200 including tax on a very slow Wednesday night with NO BREAKFAST! He claimed he didn't know who owned the hotel but the owner was somewhere in Phoenix. I left and told him I'd think about it. He replied that the office closes at 10pm(very unprofessional for the prices charged). Note to owners: If you can't take pride in your business like a professional signs his/her name to their work what is your real intent? I think it is to do wrong and cheat people. A real professional business owner doesn't hide identity. This is a disturbing trend with hotel ownership resulting in massive price fixing/overcharging guests and refusing to correct issues and provide value to customers(like charging top hotel rates for motel quality and staff that wouldn't get hired at Burger King). Since I'm not a chump, I said a nice goodbye and looked elsewhere-$200 saved for nice restaurants and tours. Not recommended. read more

I waited until I had a chance to correspond with the hotel manager about my concerns before posting this review, but unfortunately, my concerns were discounted and deemed as invalid. We (two couples) stayed in the 2 bedroom/ 2 bathroom Chalet and I wanted to love it ... unfortunately, there was an awful, pungent smell throughout the house which was noticed the minute we walked in the front door. The outdoor Adirondack chairs were broken and felt like they could fall apart at any moment. And none of the outlets in either bathroom worked while we were there. The GM apologized for the Adirondack chairs, but basically responded that the concern with the smell and the outlets were not valid; discounting the perspective of my entire group. On a side note, they don't have wine glasses available so if you're drinking a nice bottle of wine to celebrate your wedding anniversary, bring your own. I would like to mention that Ian from their front desk is extremely personable and made a great impression. In summary, for over $700 for one night, I would not recommend staying here. read more

Me and my wife really enjoyed our stay at the Matterhorn. The location is prime and the very heart of uptown Sedona. There are plenty of shops and beautiful views to wake up to. Sarah greeted us upon entry and was extremely helpful and kind. She gave us a few food recommendations and ensured our stay was good. We loved that they allow dogs at the hotel as well and everything was convenient. Like advertised the rooms were remodeled really well, beds were comfy, and sheets were fresh. There is something about Sedona during fall that makes you feel like you're in a life time TV show but for sure we found the place we are staying at every time we visit during the fall. read more

Staying here for the first time. Been to Sedona many times and have stayed many places over the years. This is an old motor lodge that's been renovated. It's in a great uptown location and nice east view. Pool hot tub are nice, however our room advertised a pull out bed and king bed. We are two single adult travelers...the pullout bed is for a child, not adult. Adults cannot sleep on it comfortably. Breakfast advertised but it's fruit, granola bats. Lobby not open until 8am for coffee and "breakfast". Nice, just not quite as advertised. read more

Every room has a view and the second floor rooms have a balcony overlooking the main drag and the mountains. It overlooks State Road 89 which is the main drag in Sedona, so you can literally walk to hundreds of stores and restaurants and saloons. Our room was very good sized, with a work station desk and decent free wifi. The bathroom was small, but the shower was great. They have a nice outdoor pool, and a gas fireplace where we congregated at night sipping on some beers. They young guy at the front desk was very polite and helpful. Booked a trip here earlier this year for the 4th of July weekend. As the date got closer, my girlfriend couldn't get the requested days off so we called a week prior to possibly get the date moved even though I had bought a non-refundable rate. We spoke with a gentleman and he informed us that we can switch the date around twice before it gets locked in for a non-refundable rate. We chose a tentative date mid August only because we had the option to possibly move the date one more time. As August rolled by, we planned a year ahead mainly because of how bad COVID-19 is at this time fast forward to mid April after the week of Easter. I called a couple days ago and spoke with their Front Office Manager and she informed us that we could only switch the non-refundable rates once but I did tell her that we spoke to a gentleman the previous month and said we can switch it twice. I also brought up the fact that I got charged $800 for the three night stay that I didn't go to but she told me that her system didn't say that they took money out of my CC. She then asked for proof so I sent her a screenshot of my CC statement and the confirmation number. They got busy so she placed me on a brief hold. The line disconnected and she immediately called me back three minutes later accusing me of hanging up. I told her the line disconnected but she refused to believe it. (Why would I hang up when I'm trying to get my money back, woman?) She repeatedly told me that she tells all the employees that you can only switch the dates once. I told her several times that the only reason I'm calling back is that I was told twice. She kept denying what the other employee might have told me and was no help at all the whole call. Anyways, she told me she'd speak to Tyler (?) and call me back later during the day. She never called. I called the next day and spoke to a lady named Sarah (?). I told her my situation and she said she'd follow up with me a little bit later since they were quite busy. She was nice enough to call me back and I once again repeated my situation that the manager never called me back and/or tried to resolve my problem. She apologized about the inconvenience and said she would follow up with her manager that I spoke to earlier in the week and she will call me herself on Thursday. Thursday rolled around and no phone call. I tried calling and no answer. They took $800 from me and the only person that had a negative attitude was the manager. Everyone one else was pleasant so shoutout to Sarah and Tyler! Your manager is a huge piece of sh*t and needs to be trained more properly on basic customer service and calling people back especially when they say that they'll call back. I will never stay here in the future. Matterhorn Inn, you're complete garbage. You need to seriously consider other jobs because the hospitality field isn't for you. read more

I've been coming to this hotel for several years and it's always been just a hotel to stay in while touring around Sedona. However, the rooms have now been completely renovated and I believe under new ownership. I have to say, it's about time. I am very pleased with what I see. The most change I note is the bathroom. The lighting and the shower is very nicely modernized with a shower door now instead of a shower curtain. Large desk, fridge, microwave, coffee machine, hanging flat screen television and an area to lay your luggage is a great addition since I don't like to put things on hotel floors. Check in was total crap. I arrived shortly after 3:00 was told my room being cleaned right now. I went off to have a drink, back at 5:00 pm and my room is still not ready. Because my room was given to someone else. read more

After paying over $500/night to stay in the Chalet, at the bare minimum I expected it to be cleaned before my arrival. We checked in after 3 PM and the management let us know our room was available and gave us a key, yet when we came inside the chalet had not yet been cleaned since the last visit. We found dirty sheets on the kitchen counter with mysterious brown stains, dirty sheets and bath towels on all the beds, and leftover food and drink from the last visitors. There was even left over toilet paper in the toilets! This would be disgusting at any time, but is simply disturbing given the rapid spread of COVID-19. When we called the front desk to inform them that our room was a mess, they assured us that the room had been cleaned but they would send over a cleaning crew anyway. To our surprise, when the cleaning crew arrived, they informed us that none of the had been into work for the past few days, and no one had stepped foot into the chalet to clean. They told us it would only take 30 minutes to clean a 2 story house with 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a kitchen, living room, and game room. That night the five of spent well over 30 minutes sterilizing the house so we would have peace of mind. When we called and asked for some compensation, management refused to take our calls for three whole days. When we finally got a hold of the manager, Tyler, he said they had done enough by giving us a complimentary bottle of wine for our trouble. Unfortunately, a bottle of wine is not compensation for blatant negligence during a global pandemic. For days I had been trying to get a hold of Tyler, and when i finally did, he apologized for not getting back to me sooner, but he was busy cleaning up rooms at the hotel because again the cleaning staff was not there. During this last phone call, Tyler simply hung up us. Such negligence puts lives at risk and trying to dodge our phone calls makes it even more reprehensible. read more

I have never experienced an issue checking into a hotel ever before Matterhorn. I've travelled around the world and stayed in so many hotels, never once having this negative experience. We were a young family left stranded by this hotel. I called Matterhorn on June 28th one week before we were heading to Sedona from Phoenix to book a room for 4th of July weekend. The lady was very nice on the phone and assured me there'd be an email with a confirmation number for my stay. Her name may have been a Vanessa (?) Shame on me for not checking. I have a toddler so I got distracted and failed to check. Fast forward July 3rd upon check in. We arrive. Outside, I call to check in since it appeared the lobby was closed due to covid, and Stephanie answers the phone. I give her my name and she tells me I don't have a reservation in that name. I check my email for a confirmation and I can't find it. This is a HUGE problem. Basically, my reservation wasn't reserved like it should have been and we were left high and dry, with a screaming toddler in the car. They had no more available rooms. I would NOT trust this hotel to accept reservations because clearly they either have incompetent employees or a faulty/outdated system that can't even take a reservation over the phone. A hotel that leaves guests high and dry without offering any sort of resolution aside from "oh we're so sorry" is DISGUSTING. I will NEVER recommend this place to anyone visiting Sedona. Stephanie did not handle the situation well over the phone and left me pissed off. As far as what happened to us afterward? We ended up making last minute reservations at another hotel having to pay 25% more in our budget. Worst experience with a hotel we've ever had. read more

LOCATION is the key and this is what Matterhorn Inn has the edge over the other places. In the heart of uptown Sedona where all the overpriced gift shops and restaurants are. You get to have a nice vista of the mountain from your room balcony. The decor in the room is simple and a bit outdated. The plastic potted plants are a complete waste of space and has to go! Bed is comfy with a mattress topper. Flat screen tv with cable, complimentary wi-fi for all the guests. Ample parking space available and free of charge. Housekeeping did a good job of keeping the room clean and at the same time changing our towels throughout our stay. The place is convenient and has easy access to food and shops. read more

This place doesn't look like much from the outside but it is a different story once you are in your room. The rooms are recently renovated and quite cozy. The views from the rooms are gorgeous and great views of Sedona rocks. The hotel is located right in the downtown area of Sedona which makes for easy access to restaurants and cute little stores. Mornings and evenings here are gorgeous. Almost every room (if not every room) comes with a porch with outdoor furniture which makes for great place to sit down and relax. OK stay with me. This is going to be a two-part review. I want to capture the experience thus far before I forget. Part 1 (July 5, 2020) - After a somewhat disappointing overnight stay over the 4th of July in Prescott, I decided to drive into Sedona to share the breathtaking views w/my bf before we headed back down to Phoenix as he had never been. Next month I will have a milestone birthday and I decided that since travel was out right now due to Covid-19, that I would like to stay in one of my favorite cities in the U.S. - Sedona. While driving through town I was taking photos of places I would want to stay for the occasion. Previously, I'd seen the Matterhorn Inn but always thought I wouldn't want to stay there as its right on the main strip. We decided to go talk to the staff and received the most amazing tour and customer experience from a gentleman named Jose. He completely stopped what he was doing to help us outside of the office to come inside and help us. He offered to let my Love and I see a few of the rooms in person to help us to decide which to book that day. Apparently the rooms have been refreshed under the new ownership and they have a modern flare with clean, attractive decor and reasonable rates ($179/n for our stay). I settled on the one I wanted with a killer 2nd floor view and he quickly and efficiently and with some of the best customer service I've experienced in a long time, booked us in. As we parted, he wished me a wonderful birthday (I guess in case he wasn't working when we arrive) and just had us leaving with a big smile and full of hope for our upcoming trip next month. So we just got back from Sedona and felt we would leave a review about our stay with this hotel. We stayed here for over a week. We NEVER leave bad reviews we hope this helps the STAFF & MANAGERS to have better customer service, since the people who stay here keep you in business. We would have given it 5 stars however the following reasons we could not: 1. Check in date NO toilet paper in room at all. We had to go down and ask for toilet paper. Unfortunately our whole stay not once did we get any housekeeping service. 2. We took our dirty towels down every day had to ask for new towels, trash bags to put in trash cans, no new cups for coffee, bed never got made, we took our own trash down every day. When we asked the house keeper's to come to our room they said OK and NEVER came. 3. The lady we spoke to who said she was the manager. We advised her we got NO housekeeping since we have been here this is the 5th time we have asked and she stated they are short staffed. However, on serval days we counted like six or more people working. The money we spent to stay here to go on vacation, people due except to be taken care of and to have basic items as far as toilet paper, clean towels, cups, trash bags...etc. 4. The day we are checking out NO POWER @ ALL!!! They stated they didn't know the phone company just showed up and turned the power off to hotel. WOW They didn't even apologize. Which means our room keys didn't work, we had NO ELECTRIC to see in bathroom, we couldn't take a shower, and we had to pack in the dark this was so sad!!!!! 5. When we were packing the car up a gold car pulled in crooked, flung open his door and banged it right into our SUV. Here it was the employee who checked us in. He has blonde hair, wears glasses and said he was a manager when we checked in.. My husband and I where shocked thank goodness there was NO DENT this was a RENTED SUV. 6. When we checked out my husband asked the girl is housekeeping extra and explained again (this is like the 15th time explaining to staff & managers) about the service we received. She didn't apologize or even offer a discount for the inconvenience and for us attending our room ourselves for over the week we where here. On the bright side room was nice, so convenient being right in town and did have great views!!!! The staff was nice however it seemed no one knew what was going on. read more

Love this place! Right in the heart of the Sedona strip. Very clean rooms and property, and live that we have a gorgeous view and easy access to the room from the parking lot or the strip. Perfect spot to be close to uptown Sedona and to see all the shops. We had an uninterrupted view of the gorgeous mountains. Staff was extremely helpful and place was spotless! We booked last minute and got a great rate instead of going through alternative booking companies. Would def okey visit again or recommend! read more
