Such a peaceful secluded retreat on the edge of wilderness. Very private with only 2 bedrooms to ensure privacy. And a large common room with a fully stocked kitchen with fresh eggs from the chickens on site. We were immediately greeted by the two sweetest dogs that would periodically check up on us and keep us company. They were so well behaved. Occasionally The cat would also visit. Our host were always available if needed, but allowed all the privacy we wanted. The view of the stars from the upper patio with fireplace and hot tub had to be my favorite experience. The cedar fire had such a pleasant fragrance, and the sounds of wildlife in the area and the views were unspeakable. Even though if feels like your out in the middle of nowhere, there are so many things nearby. I understand why there is a three day minimum stays, you will want to spend more time there to relax and enjoy the simple pleasures of life. No tv is available and that was wonderful. read more

The 4 nights we spent at Mescal Canyon Resort was a completely relaxing! Our room was perfect, we were able to cook dinner in the Canyon Studio and even took advantage of the fresh veggies in the garden! Took a hike up the mountain above the vineyard as well as into the canyon and both were equally enjoyable. Shell gave us lots of great tips and provided wonderfully delicious gluten free baked goods each morning. We even took advantage of the gourmet breakfast option our last morning before we checked out and it was amazing! My favorite was enjoying the chemical free hot tub with the full moon and only the sounds of the birds around us... the humming birds in the morning on the Canyon Studio porch were also delightful. We definitely want to come back the first chance we get! read more

When my girlfriend and I booked this B&B we both didn't know what to think. It was our first time staying in a bed and breakfast so we had high hopes. When we got to the resort it was spectacular. The hosts Andra and Rennie were extremely nice and accommodating to our requests. The rooms where we stayed were away from the main house in an amazing guest house with its own bathroom and shower. In addition, there was a well lit path to an outdoor jacuzzi that provided excellent views of the night sky. The delicious organic breakfast that was served was fresh from Andrea's garden. Afterward my girlfriend got a massage that she stated was the best massage she ever received. We couldn't stop talking about how great the entire experience was. I highly recommend it to anyone visiting Jerome, Cottonwood, Cornville, or Clarkdale. read more

Been here twice now. My new husband and I stopped here on our way back from our home in Oklahoma. It was just as I remember it the first time. The house is built against a hillside and is completely solar powered. The room is private and quiet with at home feeling. We really loved the dogs and cats that welcomed us and joined us for a late night chat on the patio outside our room. We had some wine up at the hot tub and could see the milky way sky above us and the sound of an owl was an added touch to a very romantic honeymoon night. After entering the grounds I could immediately see why this place has received all five stars on yelp. Only minutes from Oldtown Cottonwood, this uniquely architectured layout has a couple of guest houses with a main house where the owners reside. Rennie and Andrea are delightful hosts. I like it because it was remote enough to feel like you were off the grid which they actually are, and yet we were only minutes from great restaurants and great sites including Sedona and Jerome. When it came time to plan our wedding, both my husband and I each thought of Candlewood Retreat separately. It was the most glorious moment when I brought up the idea to him, and he responded wish, "Yes! That's exactly what I was thinking of!" We rented the studio space for our reception, and then spirited ourselves away for a number of nights to their Bed and Breakfast to be cozy together, hiking, eating marvelous organic breakfasts, lingering in the steaming jacuzzi under the incredible bowl of glittering stars overhead with the most magnificent skyline around us....I cannot say enough about what a perfect experience this was! Staying at Candlewood is an opportunity an and of itself, and I recommend the experience with all of my heart! The rooms are sumptuous in their comfort. The space is very private. There is a sense of inhabiting a Maxfield Parrish painting because of the beauty of the space, and yet it all feels so natural and grounded. I probably need not mention that this being our wedding weekend that we desired privacy and quiet. There is absolutely no noise of vehicles or anything disruptive. At night it's like you can hear the stars! We slept late every morning and didn't even notice the chickens till we opened our door one morning to find a couple of hens quietly off pecking through the garden! We lacked for nothing and we were entirely at ease and in bliss our entire stay. Wedding planning at Candlwood was beyond wonderful -- I still look back with amazement! I highly recommend the experience of renting the studio. Not only is it a beautiful space inside and out, and which looked just magical for our reception (think Tuscany!) but there was absolutely no stress in the planning part. None! I've been through a lot of weddings with my friends, and this experience is unheard of! Rennie and Andrea are so easy to work with and accommodating. The prices we agreed on were extremely reasonable. There was never any pressure, and certainly no tiresome nickel-and-diming. There is a large patio area, and the studio itself transforms itself from a well-mirrored dance studio to intimate setting with little effort. There is a full kitchen with a full size refrigerator and freezer, and we were provided with a full accompaniment of tables, chairs, table settings, kitchenware, etc, so that all we really had to bring was the food and the silver for cutting and serving the cake! I also take belly dancing classes at the studio which is the highlight of my week. It's a great space for classes, dinners, group meetings -- you name it. Most highly recommended. My husband and I live in the Verde Valley about twenty minutes away from Candlewood. We have watched this area change so much over the years. We feel that Candlewood Retreat and Bed and Breakfast represents the best of Arizona, and anchors the most positive of the old and new energies of this region through and through. Talk about a FANTASTIC place! I found this place by yelp and loved every minute of it, wishing we could stay longer rather than passing through. Andrea and Rennie are such amazing, open hearted people that love to share their experiences and learn about their visitors lives. On very short notice we stayed here in hopes to enjoy the night life of the Jerome and Cottonwood. We had a great time listening to live music and eating out in close downtown Cottonwood. Because we are fairly social individuals and were amazed with the architecture and vibe among the property, we had a great home-grown breakfast with A&R and discussed all the great things they accomplished and aspirations they have together. We will definitely be coming back with friends in tow and will be giving raving reviews to anyone that wants to spend time in the Verde Valley area. read more

Rennie and Andrea are simply wonderful hosts... friendly, interesting and a wealth of knowledge and experience for the entthusiast of sustainable permaculture gardening, passive solar energy, environmentally cooperative architecture, art, yoga and so many other wonderful topics of conversation. These reviews are right! My wife and I stayed here this past weekend on the recommendation of my parents who have stayed here before, and to be honest, five stars is not enough. Andrea and Rennie are incredible hosts who always make you feel at home. Both rooms are beautiful but be sure to inquire about their studio/guesthouse. I hope I'm not giving away any secrets, but this has been for their groundskeepers in the past, but when the groundskeeper is away, you have the opportunity to experience this full functioning, gorgeous house. As with every rental, it is perfect for a romantic getaway, complete with beautiful views, a kitchen, and the seclusion only offered in an off-grid home. Back to our experience... We stayed in the Gold Room, and we couldn't have been happier. When I say that there is no TV, I mean this as an advantage. Take time to enjoy the surroundings and the company you're with. Just steps away from the room is a hot tub nestled next to a fireplace. Like I said, this is away from civilization with all of the amenities which means beautiful star-gazing, and late nights in a wonderful, desert setting, void of traffic noise, and full of desert wilderness. If you're like us, you took time to enjoy the nearby Verde Canyon Railroad, or maybe the many wine tasting nearby and didn't get back until after dark. If so, wake up early and explore the property, from the several greenhouses, the herb gardens, the very friendly dogs, the playful cats, and the hens. Andrea and Rennie make a fully organic and vegetarian breakfast using the eggs from these hens and the gardens around this property. You have your choice of sitting area for breakfast, and there isn't a bad choice. Both rooms have their own sitting areas (along with anywhere on the property) and the studio (2 level) has its own second floor sitting area. I can't say enough about this place. My husband and I stayed a weekend at Candlewood Retreat at the end of April. It was exactly what we wanted - relaxing, beautiful, easy, and a good price. Andrea and Rennie were great hosts. They gave good recommendations on things to do in the area and let us borrow a hiking book. They made excellently delicious breakfast with organic food. They've created a wonderful and large garden on the hillside of their property and have chickens which provided the eggs at breakfast. Everything was blooming since it was springtime. They provided a comfortable atmosphere and we enjoyed getting to know them a little bit over breakfast, but you don't have to eat with them if you prefer privacy. The room was cozy and cute. The landscaping, architecture and design are all aesthetically pleasing. The hot tub was serene at nighttime. I received a massage from Andrea that was absolutely excellent. Overall, Andrea and Rennie have created a sanctuary that is very pleasing and well worth the relaxation it provides! We would love to go back for a weekend every year! Nearby : the drive to Jerome was about 15 minutes - a cute place to visit and have dinner. It's close to Sedona and Slide Rock. read more

Goodness - how to describe the indescribable. I'll make an attempt, going from macro to micro. The area: gorgeous, tucked away enough to feel quiet and serene but close enough to various towns to feel connected. Butts up to a National Park so you see nothing but the desert for miles. The property: The owner is a sustainable architect and great care has been given to details, making for a place that has a positive energy that permeates across the entire place. The owners: Warm, open, and endlessly interesting. The room and common area: Wonderfully comfortable with every amenity you could imagine and a view to die for on the patio. The hot tub was our personal favorite. The food: Vegetarian, organic breakfast lovingly cooked by the owners and their caretaker. Again, I've tried to use words to describe a feeling/experience more than a place. Can't recommend enough that you see/feel/experience it yourself. read more
