A nice mid-sized wine shop if you're looking for a decent, curated selection of wine not typically found in the big-box stores. I spent 15 minutes perusing the U.S. reds section, departing with a Napa Cab, a Bordeaux-blend, and a Petite Sirah (the touted red blend missed the mark, imo, but the other two were great). I have a "market basket" of commonly available wines that I use to assess pricing, and my quick assessment is that the prices are reasonable here. If I ever get back to the area I will stop by to sip some wine at the counter (or outside if it's nice!) with the proprietor. read more

I am always grateful to find natural wine when traveling. It's not always easy, but a quick search led me to Desert Wine Shop. I called the store to confirm before wandering in. Turns out this place has a robust selection of natural wine! I was so pleased to find one of my favorites, Iruai, along with other intriguing bottles. There was even a wine tasting when we popped in around 5 pm on a Friday, and a healthy crowd had gathered out front to enjoy some drinks in the sun. Beyond the natural wine selection, this little local spot was packed to the gills with other options. Love to see it! Wow! What a treat it was last night, to visit the Desert Wine Shop on 111, for the first time. Immediately, upon entering the shop itself, naturally invited me in. I was also immediately greeted with a welcoming smile and the offer to assist. I perused a bit, making a selection on my own, but with such an impressive selection of wines, I inquired on some other red options for a Cab. I was promptly assisted and offered a sample of Silver Ghost, Napa Valley 2022. Oh my, it was absolutely delicious and said 'I'll take it!'. At check out, I discover it had been the owner, Katie Finn assisting me. Truly, an incredibly delightful, engaging and kind human. What a delight! I wandered into this shop randomly after finding it on google. Happily, they were having a tasting event. They have them every Friday and Tuesday. The store was packed with people, and the two ladies pouring were very knowledgeable. It was two dry rieslings and 3 syrahs, for only $10. The wines were delicious! Met some fun and interesting people, and the owner turned me onto a fabulous and inexpensive bottle of South African white, and I bought one of the syrahs from the tasting. A hidden gem! This shop, which appears tiny but contains a large inventory, is a delightful find. On Tuesdays and Fridays (call ahead to confirm schedule) there is a 4p - 6p tasting of 5 wines for $5. The sommelier, Katie, was incredibly informative and knowledgeable. While this is not Costco or TJoe's, it isn't going to break the bank. And those places don't allow for getting recommendations and advice. There is a great selection of reasonable priced wines amongst the high end options, and it's clear that a careful curation went into choosing the inventory. The people who run the shop are lovely and enjoy answering questions. By signing up for a membership you get discounts and other benefits, and with each purchase you can earn points toward benefits. I happened to be having lunch across the street and saw this unassuming place. I wanted to get a bottle of wine for my mom so I could maintain my best daughter status by supplementing the already perfect birthday present I had purchased. Dan was very cool and extremely helpful. I had a vague idea of what my mom liked, sweet white wine .... and he had several good suggestions. He explained why each was good. I was looking at a rather expensive white and he steered me away to a far less expensive bottle that he thought my mom would like better. We ended up walking out with a couple bottles of wine when we went in with the intention of only buying one. You can tell he's a man that knows his stuff, he loves wine and he wants people to be happy with their choices. Got recommended to come here for wine tasting on Friday. Boy was I glad we heard about this. The wine selection and pricing is amazing here. I'm a big total wine fan but they beat them on pricing for some wines I checked. Had unique wines from all over the world. The wines we tasted were all amazing. I ended up joining the wine club since the value was so good. The place is smaller and was busy during the tasting hours but everyone was really friendly. 5 dollar tasting fee on Fridays only. Free for members. I look forward to spending more fridays here and getting some unique bottles of wine. read more

Found a Foradori Teroldego Vigneti Delle Dolomiti IGT MezzoLombardo '16 made by Lisabeta, who is recognized as having rescued the Teroldego from extinction and brought its cultivation/enology to the front of the global wine stage. Cheers to Louis/Dressner Selections for importing. Also picked up Abbazia Di Novacella Stiftskerei Neustift Kerner Alto Adige Valle Isarco doc '18, as Kerner is another of my favorite varietals, more typically found in blends. This is 100%. Desert Wine also carries Godspeed Malbec, Mount Veeder, Napa '12. It may be the best Malbec made in the U.S.. Larry Stricker and company keep on knocking it out of the park. While at a premium price, it is well worth digging a little deeper for Clif and Kate have created a fabulous program, club, and events program here, well worth following. My husband and I stopped in while on vacation in Palm Desert. We came in on a Tuesday for a $5 tasting. What a steal! We tried about 10 different wines, the theme that night was "bubbles". Everyone was super friendly and knowledgeable. Another customer tipped us off to a special deal with a local restaurant (Il Corso) that only charges a $5 corkage fee if you show your receipt from Desert Wine Shop. The tasting was mostly locals, but everyone was welcoming to us tourists. We wanted to take back a couple cases of wine that we can't get at home, so we returned during a less busy time. The guy that helped us (sorry that we did not catch his name) was so great! We told him our price points and what we typically enjoy. He was knowledgeable about which wines were small batch or don't distribute to our home state. So far the bottles we have opened have been spot on recommendations. This is a small wine shop lacking flair and pretentiousness. Basically, wine in boxes or stacked on boxes allowing a simple foray around the store and the wine that is available. There are some wines for the upper crust when it comes to cost but most of the wines are for us commoners. We have taken advantage of some deals as it's always fun finding that NEW wine from an obscure vineyard. You will notice some prominent names and there will be many you do not recognize.
