Chicken tikka, jasmine rice, spinach with lentils and a side of naan bread were all delicious
    Philip M.

Mark and I love the food from Deshi! Sanjay and his staff consistently provide us with friendly service and delicious food. Deshi was one of the few restaurants open for business on Monday, Presidents' Day holiday. We chose to enjoy our food in the cozy dining room. On this visit we ordered the appetizer assortment with Samosas and Pakoras- they were delicious with a medium spice level. The vegetarian halim soup was outstanding and paired nicely with the naan. We also ordered the chicken Tikka, the spinach with lentils, assorted naan breads, and jasmine rice. All of our food was flavorful and delicious. Mark and I do not like bland food and we love the medium to high spice level. Guests do have the option to reduce spice levels if needed. The menu is a crowd pleaser with options for meat eaters and vegetarians. We finished with the yummy rice pudding. This is a great place for dining in or to carry out delicious Bangladeshi food. It's always a pleasure to patronize Sanjay and his restaurant!

Mango Lassi, Butter Chicken, Chicken Tikka Masala, Chicken Samosa, Garlic Naan, and Vegetable Pakora

Deshi Street Bangladeshi Restaurant is a very casual dining spot. The interior is quite small and gives "mom and pop" type of vibes. When I went, there was only one person in the front kind of running everything, but I (along with my friend) were the only dine-in customers so the service was not bad, but it could have been faster. The person in charge was very kind, though. My friend and I got Mango Lassi, Butter Chicken, Chicken Tikka Masala, Chicken Samosa, Garlic Naan, and Vegetable Pakora. The Butter Chicken and Chicken Tikka Masala tasted kind of similar to each other, but they were good overall (with a slight kick in heat). For the appetizers, the Chicken Samosa and Vegetable Pakora were pretty typical; I was not necessarily impressed. The Chicken Samosa was filling inside but a bit dry. The Garlic Naan was crispy, thick, and garlicky, but it could have used more garlic. I also thought my Mango Lassi was a bit bland? Overall, the food was just fine. I think everything could have used more seasoning. I found myself dipping my appetizers into the sauces to taste more of a flavor. We were given complimentary Rice Pudding as a dessert, which I thought tasted okay. Since we mostly ordered "typical" Indian food as opposed to Bangladeshi food, I do want to give this place another shot and get Bangladeshi food. I would rate this restaurant a 3.5/5 if I could.

I hate to say it, but I was disappointed in my visit here. I wanted so much to like it more. My family agreed we'd try Deshi Street sometime during my recent visit to Atlanta. I was so exited to try a Bangladeshi restaurant, as I love Indian food so I figured I'd be bound to like this as well. And I did like it- I enjoyed everything I tried. But it just wasn't real memorable. First, all of the workers were super kind and did their best, but the service just really wasn't great. They had some sort of event going on in the room next to the main, and it seemed like maybe they were struggling to balance that with serving regular visitors. I tried the Shaak with chicken. That was probably one of the best meals out of our party of 5. Even my uncle who doesn't like to try new foods liked it. We lovingly nicknamed it the "Bangladeshi collard greens", as it literally looked like a funny version of them. But it was good. The issue I think, was that none of the food really had that "oompf" factor. Most Indian food I've tried has strong spice factors, and can have a lot of heat so your taste buds are doing a dangerous yet attractive dance. But everything we had here was a bit more bland. I can't imagine the spices are that different but it seemed to be the case. I really expected more from a flavor profile aspect. I'd say the best thing we tried, though by far was the garlic naan. I do have to say that's one of the best naans I've had in a while. I would've just sat and ate it by itself, which I don't say often. We did enjoy the desserts of rice pudding and a soaked donut hole (i think?). Overall, again I just wish I left wanting to come back to this place. But alas, I did not.

This place was 10/10. We've been looking for a go to Indian restaurant and this is definitely it. The service was amazing. The food and flavors in each dish were amazing. I would recommend this to anyone that loves great Indian food and variety. Prices are very reasonable as well.

One of several Bangladeshi restaurants in this area, I was surprised to find that this one had Hare Krishna music going and was quite vegetarian-friendly. Indeed, with a variety of tofu-based options in addition to some of the more usual dishes from the Indian subcontinent, there was an abundance of choices. My takeout took a little longer than I expected, but clearly some work went into it, with deliciously prepared dishes well packaged to avoid any sort of spillage. My soup was garnished with fried onions and was robustly flavor, my tofu deliciously fried, and the noodles on the side were of ramen-like quality with some distinctive spices. Ordering an extra rice dish was unnecessary, but I'll find a use for it. They had an okra and lentil combination which I've not seen before, but it was as spicy as I asked for and quite filling and delicious. Everyone else was getting takeout as well, but they had a small but reasonably nice dining room and a larger banquet room next door.

I wanted to like this place more than I did, and there were some interesting dishes and other positives in general, but ultimately, I didn't think it was significantly enough better than average to warrant a fourth star. Likes: fish samosas. I haven't had this variety before, though I love samosas in general. Tasty, well prepared, and came with the normal sauces. If this were all I'd had, a four star dish. Meh/okay: the chicken korma featured chicken that was a bit overcooked and the chicken tikka naan was new to me but not terrifically distinct or particularly tasty. Less than meh: the lamb itself was cooked well, but - and this was a dish I haven't had before (I don't recall the name) - I just didn't think it smelled or tasted particularly good. Maybe I'm just unfamiliar with the dish, but I wasn't impressed. Ambiance: we were sat at a giant circular table in a secondary room because the air conditioning wasn't working well in the main area. The music was okay, and the AC in that room was fine, but it looked like a half baked event space. Service: okay. We got bottled water and didn't need refills. We got checked on periodically.

I have mixed feelings about this place. Visited around 11:30 pm on a friday night (online it said they are open until 4am). When we went inside, it looked like the lights were barely turned on, it seemed very sketchy, we had to flag someone down for service. The food was very sub-par as well. Ordered the chicken biriyani and tandoor platter. I was not a big fan but will try to visit during the day.

    $3.99 Chicken Samosas
    Blu L.

Bottom Line: I wouldn't come back here again. Atmosphere: Small, dark, SO HOT. The AC wasn't working properly. It was 86 degrees(based on their thermostat). The tables are all set very fancy with uniquely folded dining napkins, but the glasses were dirty. Food: The food was decent. Standard for Indian Food. For an appetizer we ordered the $3.99 Chicken Samosas(2pcs). Either the chicken was scarce or they gave us the vegetable samosa by mistake. Either way, very hot and fresh served with two sauces. One a bit sour which in enjoyed more and one green more bland one. My brother got the $15.99 Mixed Tika Masala. It was good, but nothing special. I would say the same about my $13.99 Lamb Coconut Curry. Both were served with Basmati Rice which they brought on one plate for us to share. Not the best Basmati I've had before. We each got a $3 side of Garlic Naan which was very fresh and flavorful. They also served us each a small plate of complimentary rice pudding which was nice, cold, and sweet. Service: I don't like how they didn't have tap water, only bottled water charged per bottle. The manager did put a small leaf blower-shaped fan on a chair by us which was considerate although it didn't help much. Overall: I wouldn't come back. Although the food was decent, they can use a lot of work for the comfort of their employees. I think my review would be significantly better if the AC was working properly. I'm willing to revisit once that situation is sorted out.

I'm not sure where else you can find amazing Indian restaurant that is Open until at least 1:30 AM almost every single night! Thanks to yelp! I found this hidden gem while my fiancé and I were trying to have a very late dinner as per usual for us. This restaurant is located right next to Crawfish Shack and a very popping/loud hookah lounge. Our server was So courteous! He even opened up the door for us as we were leaving. I suspect he may have been one of the owners or at least the manager of this place. He made excellent recommendations and treated us as if we were the only ones in the room, which we were LOL. However his demeanor was so friendly that I can see him treating everyone like this way. He even offered us more rice at no extra charge and packed everything up nicely for us when we left. We ordered the chicken 65, chicken masala, an eggplant dish, and garlic naan. Now everything was absolutely delicious and very hearty! The garlic naan was definitely one of my favorites. Such a good late night food find! Will definitely be back!

Garlic Naan and tandoori chicken, steam still coming off the plate YUM

Small restaurant in a strip mall off of Buford highway. I went there about 10:30 on a Sunday morning- frankly, I was surprised that they were even open that early. I was their first customer, but two door dash people arrived to pick up orders, so the kitchen was already warmed up. Had the garlic Naan and the mixed tandoori chicken (also came with goat and a few shrimp I don't recall the exact name of the dish). Food was fantastic. Fiery red color on the chicken, and I didn't specify spice, so I think their default is a pretty mild (not spicy at all). Spent $25 bucks after my tip; the food was great and I thought the price was perfect for the quality of the dish and the amount provided. Friendly service, nice atmosphere, pretty tiny space (you could call it intimate, i guess). I'm very satisfied with my Sunday lunch!

This review is for takeout only. We ordered dinner for delivery at 8:10 on a Saturday night. Delivery was free but we didn't get the food until 9:35. Had we known it would've taken that long, we would've just picked it up ourselves. Here's what we got: - Plain Naan ($2.99): pretty plain, as advertised - Mixed Appetizer Platter (Vegetable Samosa, Chicken Samosa, Vegetable Pakora) ($4.99): the chicken samosa was better than the vegetable samosa; the vegetable pakora tasted more fried than vegetable-y - Ponir Tikka Masala ($12.99): very good - Ponir Coconut Jhol ($11.99): very good, sweet, with coconut flakes I'm giving Deshi 4 stars because the delivery took so long (the delivery service is in-house, not a third party company). We would get the tikka masala and the coconut jhol again.

This place is a hidden jewel like many of the restaurants on Buford highway. Due to covid, they are only allowing pickup and delivery. We ordered so much food and it was all flavorful, just the right level of spice and plentiful. You know something is great if it taste better the next day or cool - Deshi is definitely one of those places. We ordered roti, garlic naan, a mixed seafood rice, veggie samosas, tofu dish and two other things. It was amazing, I'll start by saying that I'm vegan so I officially didn't eat the meat dishes but the way they prepare the tofu and depth of the stew made every bite super enjoyable. I was full and happy. Additionally the staff - so friendly and nice, the owner gave us mango lassi are a parting treat which I 100% recommend. He also through in a couple of sauces especially for vegans! We will definitely be back - I so badly want to dine inside!!!! Thanks for making our experience enjoyable!

I am disappointed to write a bad review especially when the service wasn't the issue, but let's jump right into it: Location: in a small strip plaza, shared parking with other stores Interior: small inside, 7 tables total Service: when we walked in, nobody was there to greet us. Had to do a cat call in order for the nice gentleman to hear us. He told us we can sit wherever. We ordered the appetizer platter and it was good! We ordered the mixed tikka Masala and the sauce was thick and spicy! While my partner didn't have much meat in his, mine was meaty. We took the rest to go, and asked for a cup to go for my spiced tea. He poured more in my to go cup out of a pitcher which I was appreciative about. I get in my car and opened my cup to drink my tea (I don't use straws due to being gassy) and saw the roach floating. I'm sick to my stomach just off the thought of taking a sip. STAY AWAY AND PLEASE CALL PEST CONTROL FOR THE ROACH INFESTATION!

Is this place closed? We have been there several times and it always has been closed. So sad if it is. Food at this location is amazing..

I'm not sure I went on a Monday and it was closed, but I'm not sure if it was just closed that day. Several restaurants in that area are closed on Mondays

Is it possible to get mild ? I know it's Indian food. Just wondered

Yeah, they have lots of options. Most items are seasoned well but not spicy unless you ask for that. Just tell them what you want! 😊

Do they offer weekday lunch buffet?

As far as I know about the menu of this restaurant, they do not offer any kind of buffet. I recommend that you call the restaurant and ask them.

    Is the restaurant halal?

Yes , it is 100 % Halal Food .thank you for your question.

The Indian television show the owners had on makes everything more authentic. One Yelper was on point when she said there's an explosion of flavors. I usually hold expectations low to not be disappointed. But the food did wow me! It was like Indian food on steroids with the flavors. They did not hold back. The palak paneer was really good. The green stuff (spinach) was finely minced and oh so good with the paneer. Even the paneer was pretty flavorful even for such a simple dish. But then again it was smothered in the super flavorful sauce with whatever crazy seasoning they made it in. The lamb curry was super duper spicy. Flavorful, yes. Spicy, check. It was a lingering spice that was bearable but can accumulate and leave you wanting to pour milk over your tongue. It's sort of a hybrid of spicy in its flavor and hotness level. Your taste buds will most definitely explode with this pick. I'm sort of a wimp when it comes to spicy stuff. This was on the borderline of yes, I like it but a maybe on trying it again. There were two container sizes that they offered that were stuffed to the brim: regular and large. These two dishes came with rice so it made everything really filling. The garlic naan was really good too. Though it was a bit overheated as it was hard, but the flavor still shows through.

I have spent the last 30 years preparing and creating vegan/vegetarian recipes and when you have done it for so long it is hard to impress me. Masti has impressed me again, again and again. Masti Indian Street Eats in John's Creek, Ga is by far the best at executing Vegetarian Indian Street Food. Do not be put off by the name "Street food". Vada Pav is a potato based veggie patty that has a buttery overtone. Savory and delicious. The best dish of the night is Palak Chat, a dish that excellently combines fried spinach in a cool salad format with a Tamarind dressing. Absolutely delicious. They have freshly made naan bread that is delicious. My wife ate the Chicken Alfredo and she said it the best "alfredo" that she has had. Of courses, it is with a South Indian taste. Hooray! A genuinely refreshing addition to our West Midtown rotation is here - and it's de-licious!…read more We planned our visit to give time for any opening friction points to smooth out, because we wanted to love this place right from the start. An Indian fusion tasting menu? Yes please! I'm glad we did, because our overall experience was really good. Firstly, in addition to the tasting menu, they have a great range of dishes and some happy hour specials too. The only less-than-awesome moment was our arrival. We were first in line at the host stand, at the very beginning of dinner service, with a reservation. However, we had to wait as a group behind us was welcomed and seated. The host was the only person all evening who wasn't warm or welcoming - it was a chilly arrival experience, with parking validation friction and would have put me off from the start if the servers hadn't saved it from there on out. We were seated close to the pass, which was a fun spot to watch both the kitchen and front of house teams at work, as well as a comfy booth from which to observe the rest of the space (including snooping at other diners' plates - for inspiration, of course). The server seemed surprised that we (as first-timers) went straight to the tasting menu, but quickly got organized and the drinks were with us within a few minutes. She was very present, explained everything really well, and handled my weird ingredient questions and preferences super well. The food was ahmahzing. 13 dishes in just over an hour - phew. Favorites and standouts included: - Green Papaya Salad: fresh, tangy and crunchy - Crispy Broccoli: vegetables never tasted this good. - Potato Dosa: too filling for a tasting menu, but the second-best bite on the menu - Dal Makhni: black lentils, creamy-dreamy and the best dish of the night. - Turmeric Fish: no idea what fish it was, but it was shockingly good. - Sticky Date Cake: yes, this is the British-originated sticky toffee pudding of my dreams, and beats anything I've had in the UK. Huge compliments to our server (Brett - she was amazing), the kitchen and to the management, who were very present all evening, checking in with subtlety and never overdoing it. I'm going to have to wait a few weeks to stop feeling so full, then I'll be back for a tour of the rest of the menu. I can't wait to bring out of town visitors; Ghee has brought West Midtown the type of southern-hospitality-meets-global-cuisine moments I have been hoping for. Welcome to Atlanta, team Ghee!

Delicious Bangladeshi food!!!…read more I've tried the Chicken Tikka Masala ($17), Chicken 65 ($10), and garlic naan ($5), onion pakora ($8) and everything was so delicious. The Chicken 65 is super spicy, flavorful, and honestly so addictive--I definitely recommend trying it if you like heat. The Chicken Tikka Masala is exactly how I like it: creamy, rich, and full of flavor. Onion pakora was tasty. The garlic naan was fluffy, soft, and cooked perfectly. The service is always great too. Highly recommend checking this place out!

Had the pleasure of trying out Ruchi last night, and wow--what a treat. Let me break it down…read more A friend and I were on the hunt for dinner and started browsing options here. We were craving something a little different, so we landed on Indian/Bangladeshi cuisine. The reviews made the choice easy, so we headed straight to their Chamblee location. We were greeted right away and seated immediately, which was a great start. Badur (apologies if I'm spelling that wrong!) took care of us the entire time and was fantastic--super helpful with the menu and quick to offer great recommendations. We kicked things off with the Daal Puri: two mini, airy, soft flatbreads stuffed with lentils. They reminded me of a very light, crispy empanada, and I loved them. The accompanying tamarind sauce balanced everything perfectly. Definitely ordering that again on our next visit. For the mains, I went with the butter chicken, which was excellent. The chicken tasted like it had been smoked or grilled before being mixed into the sauce, and that extra flavor made it stand out. My friend ordered the Goat Bhuna, which was also delicious. Both dishes came with Baashmoti polao rice. We also added the Mixed Naan--stuffed with cheese, onion, garlic, and cilantro--and it was incredibly good. Overall, we had an amazing time. Great service, fantastic food, and a really enjoyable vibe. Solid 10/10. We'll definitely be back soon!
