I havent been here in years but we were in the neighborhood, so we decided to stop by. We ordered to go and someone came out from the back maybe a minute after we arrived. They were friendly and food came out within 10 minutes. We got chicken Tikka masala, lamb Briyani, and garlic naan. The lamb was soft and we requested mild, so the flavor was light. We thought the dishes were relatively enjoyable for a quick take out situation, but the flavors/seasoning were on the light side. The garlic naan didnt have much of a garlic kick, which made it underwhelming. The main dishes were like $12-15. The prices appear to be the same as years ago! The food was amazing! It was well seasoned and the portions were on point. The service was friendly. They have a lot of options including some dishes I have never seen before. The prices were excellent! The chicken samosas were delicious! I enjoyed the green dipping sauce too. It had a little bit of heat. They were completely stuffed with filling. My entree with paneer and peas was ordered medium hot spicy. It had a great kick! The whole meal was flavorful. At the end they gave us a side of kheer for dessert. I enjoyed that too. Mark and I love the food from Deshi! Sanjay and his staff consistently provide us with friendly service and delicious food. Deshi was one of the few restaurants open for business on Monday, Presidents' Day holiday. The vegetarian halim soup was outstanding and paired nicely with the naan. We also ordered the chicken Tikka, the spinach with lentils, assorted naan breads, and jasmine rice. All of our food was flavorful and delicious. Mark and I do not like bland food and we love the medium to high spice level. Guests do have the option to reduce spice levels if needed. The menu is a crowd pleaser with options for meat eaters and vegetarians. We finished with the yummy rice pudding. This is a great place for dining in or to carry out delicious Bangladeshi food. The interior is quite small and gives "mom and pop" type of vibes.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] When I went, there was only one person in the front kind of running everything, but I (along with my friend) were the only dine-in customers so the service was not bad, but it could have been faster. The person in charge was very kind, though. My friend and I got Mango Lassi, Butter Chicken, Chicken Tikka Masala, Chicken Samosa, Garlic Naan, and Vegetable Pakora. The Butter Chicken and Chicken Tikka Masala tasted kind of similar to each other, but they were good overall (with a slight kick in heat). For the appetizers, the Chicken Samosa and Vegetable Pakora were pretty typical; I was not necessarily impressed. The Chicken Samosa was filling inside but a bit dry. The Garlic Naan was crispy, thick, and garlicky, but it could have used more garlic. I also thought my Mango Lassi was a bit bland? Overall, the food was just fine. I think everything could have used more seasoning. I found myself dipping my appetizers into the sauces to taste more of a flavor. We were given complimentary Rice Pudding as a dessert, which I thought tasted okay. Since we mostly ordered "typical" Indian food as opposed to Bangladeshi food, I do want to give this place another shot and get Bangladeshi food. I hate to say it, but I was disappointed in my visit here. I wanted so much to like it more. My family agreed we'd try Deshi Street sometime during my recent visit to Atlanta. I was so exited to try a Bangladeshi restaurant, as I love Indian food so I figured I'd be bound to like this as well. And I did like it- I enjoyed everything I tried. But it just wasn't real memorable. First, all of the workers were super kind and did their best, but the service just really wasn't great. [[HIGHLIGHT]]They had some sort of event going on in the room next to the main, and it seemed like maybe they were struggling to balance that with serving regular visitors.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I tried the Shaak with chicken. That was probably one of the best meals out of our party of 5. Even my uncle who doesn't like to try new foods liked it. We lovingly nicknamed it the "Bangladeshi collard greens", as it literally looked like a funny version of them. But it was good. The issue I think, was that none of the food really had that "oompf" factor. Most Indian food I've tried has strong spice factors, and can have a lot of heat so your taste buds are doing a dangerous yet attractive dance. But everything we had here was a bit more bland. I can't imagine the spices are that different but it seemed to be the case. I really expected more from a flavor profile aspect. I'd say the best thing we tried, though by far was the garlic naan. I do have to say that's one of the best naans I've had in a while. I would've just sat and ate it by itself, which I don't say often. Sadly, this restaurant has declined in quality over the years. It is no longer acceptable or safe to visit. Other reviews are disturbed with the decline as well. This restaurant has gone the way of the world- the portion sizes have decreased significantly and so has the quality of the dishes. One of several Bangladeshi restaurants in this area, I was surprised to find that this one had Hare Krishna music going and was quite vegetarian-friendly. Indeed, with a variety of tofu-based options in addition to some of the more usual dishes from the Indian subcontinent, there was an abundance of choices. My takeout took a little longer than I expected, but clearly some work went into it, with deliciously prepared dishes well packaged to avoid any sort of spillage. My soup was garnished with fried onions and was robustly flavor, my tofu deliciously fried, and the noodles on the side were of ramen-like quality with some distinctive spices. Ordering an extra rice dish was unnecessary, but I'll find a use for it. They had an okra and lentil combination which I've not seen before, but it was as spicy as I asked for and quite filling and delicious. I wanted to like this place more than I did, and there were some interesting dishes and other positives in general, but ultimately, I didn't think it was significantly enough better than average to warrant a fourth star. Likes: fish samosas. I haven't had this variety before, though I love samosas in general. Tasty, well prepared, and came with the normal sauces. If this were all I'd had, a four star dish. Meh/okay: the chicken korma featured chicken that was a bit overcooked and the chicken tikka naan was new to me but not terrifically distinct or particularly tasty. Less than meh: the lamb itself was cooked well, but - and this was a dish I haven't had before (I don't recall the name) - I just didn't think it smelled or tasted particularly good. Maybe I'm just unfamiliar with the dish, but I wasn't impressed. Ambiance: we were sat at a giant circular table in a secondary room because the air conditioning wasn't working well in the main area. The music was okay, and the AC in that room was fine, but it looked like a half baked event space. Service: okay. We got bottled water and didn't need refills. I placed an order on Door Dash and when the driver got there the doors were locked. Your website says you are open Monday - Sunday 10am - 11 pm. If you were closed you should have turned off your door dash app so people and dashers won't waste their time coming there to eat or order online. read more

Bottom Line: I wouldn't come back here again. Atmosphere: Small, dark, SO HOT. The AC wasn't working properly. It was 86 degrees(based on their thermostat). The tables are all set very fancy with uniquely folded dining napkins, but the glasses were dirty. Food: The food was decent. Standard for Indian Food. For an appetizer we ordered the $3.99 Chicken Samosas(2pcs). Either the chicken was scarce or they gave us the vegetable samosa by mistake. Either way, very hot and fresh served with two sauces. One a bit sour which in enjoyed more and one green more bland one. My brother got the $15.99 Mixed Tika Masala. It was good, but nothing special. I would say the same about my $13.99 Lamb Coconut Curry. Both were served with Basmati Rice which they brought on one plate for us to share. Not the best Basmati I've had before. We each got a $3 side of Garlic Naan which was very fresh and flavorful. They also served us each a small plate of complimentary rice pudding which was nice, cold, and sweet. Service: I don't like how they didn't have tap water, only bottled water charged per bottle. The manager did put a small leaf blower-shaped fan on a chair by us which was considerate although it didn't help much. Overall: I wouldn't come back. Although the food was decent, they can use a lot of work for the comfort of their employees. I think my review would be significantly better if the AC was working properly. I'm not sure where else you can find amazing Indian restaurant that is Open until at least 1:30 AM almost every single night! Thanks to yelp! I found this hidden gem while my fiancé and I were trying to have a very late dinner as per usual for us. This restaurant is located right next to Crawfish Shack and a very popping/loud hookah lounge. Our server was So courteous! He even opened up the door for us as we were leaving. I suspect he may have been one of the owners or at least the manager of this place. He made excellent recommendations and treated us as if we were the only ones in the room, which we were LOL. However his demeanor was so friendly that I can see him treating everyone like this way. He even offered us more rice at no extra charge and packed everything up nicely for us when we left. We ordered the chicken 65, chicken masala, an eggplant dish, and garlic naan. Now everything was absolutely delicious and very hearty! The garlic naan was definitely one of my favorites. Small restaurant in a strip mall off of Buford highway. I went there about 10:30 on a Sunday morning- frankly, I was surprised that they were even open that early. I was their first customer, but two door dash people arrived to pick up orders, so the kitchen was already warmed up. Had the garlic Naan and the mixed tandoori chicken (also came with goat and a few shrimp I don't recall the exact name of the dish). Food was fantastic. Fiery red color on the chicken, and I didn't specify spice, so I think their default is a pretty mild (not spicy at all). Spent $25 bucks after my tip; the food was great and I thought the price was perfect for the quality of the dish and the amount provided. This place is a hidden jewel like many of the restaurants on Buford highway. Due to covid, they are only allowing pickup and delivery. We ordered so much food and it was all flavorful, just the right level of spice and plentiful. You know something is great if it taste better the next day or cool - Deshi is definitely one of those places. We ordered roti, garlic naan, a mixed seafood rice, veggie samosas, tofu dish and two other things. It was amazing, I'll start by saying that I'm vegan so I officially didn't eat the meat dishes but the way they prepare the tofu and depth of the stew made every bite super enjoyable. I was full and happy. Additionally the staff - so friendly and nice, the owner gave us mango lassi are a parting treat which I 100% recommend. Ate here a few years back. This is a very expensive place that also lacks in quality and quantity. I am very cognizant of how hard it is to do business these days, so I am giving this rating with the hopes that people will be patrons for more deserving and honest restaurants that are struggling. Had to do a cat call in order for the nice gentleman to hear us. He told us we can sit wherever. We ordered the appetizer platter and it was good! Nice hidden gem! I went to eat dinner at Deshi street Bangladeshi Restaurant with a group of friends.The food is really awesome and service is outstanding. I recommend this restaurant, if you like pure home-style Bangladeshi/Indian/Pakistani food and this is the place you have to be. The main cuisine types here are Bangladeshi, Indian, Curry and Halal. Good portions of the meal. Nice wall decors and cool ambiance. They have the Grubhub for food delivery, that makes easy to try the new places. Food was yummy and delicious, spice levels were perfect to my taste, especially Haleem (Goat) which is a stew includes wheat, goat meat and lentils. Also tried the Lamb Biryani which is served with Raita (Yogurt based) and a full boiled Egg. They also have a lot of vegetarian options too. Sanjay Das Ripon, the owner is extremely customer service focused and friendly. What stands out is the price compared to the competition while providing the taste and service. Space is little small, but very cozy. It's best if you come with family or friends and each get something different to share with the table. You'll leave full and happy. There's also enough free parking in front of the restaurant. Please plan accordingly as their timings are little different for other restaurants. They are closed on Mondays, they are only open for dinner on Tuesday thru Friday that is from 4 PM to 10:30 PM. On Saturdays and Sundays they are open for lunch and dinner from 12 PM to 10:30 PM. The food and service at Deshi Street were excellent. The food I had here was some of the best South Asian food I've had on Buford Highway and Atlanta in general. Thanks to my friend and fellow Yelper Jinsoon, who's a regular, for recommending this place to me. I'm not sure when I would've made it out here otherwise. Deshi Street originally opened in August 2018. It replaced Heart of India: https://www.yelp.com/biz/heart-of-india-atlanta-4. I believe Deshi Street closed and underwent one ownership change in that short time. They call themselves a Bangladeshi restaurant, but my Bengali friends, who I ate here with, told me that most of the menu was Indian. Regardless, it was all delicious. This is a small, humble, mom-and-pop restaurant. It's a hole in the wall, hidden from street view, located next door to Crawfish Shack. The owner, Sanjay Das Ripon, is a nice guy. He was a pleasure to communicate with on the phone, via email, and in person. He was very accommodating to our group, welcoming us into his restaurant, speaking with us, and even offering us warm hand towels with lime. He held the door open for us, thanked us, and said goodbye to us when we left. Just a warm character. The dining room is tiny. It can seat about 20-30 comfortably. All tables, no booths. There are also a couple umbrella-covered tables on the patio. Decor is minimal. The wall colors are inspired by trees and there's a funky color-changing chandelier. They had ethnic music videos playing on the TV when we arrived. Deshi Street's menu has changed since they first opened. They've gone from a multi-page menu to a more streamlined one-pager. The food is affordable. Everything on the menu is under $10. That said, a lot of the items are $9.99. They offer apps like samosas and puri (deep-fried bread), a half-dozen different kinds of naan, and a nice assortment of entrees including curry, korma, vindaloo (another type of curry), biryani (mixed rice dishes), and veggie and tofu dishes. They also have drinks like mango lassi (yogurt drink) and desserts. I don't think they serve alcohol. Along with dine-in and carry-out, Deshi Street takes online orders on its website (https://www.deshistreetga.com/) and offers delivery through services like DoorDash. It came out hot from the kitchen and it smelled wonderful. It smelled so good, we couldn't help but eat it right away. It was soft, crispy, slightly buttery, and pretty much perfect. Some of my friends got the coconut naan ($3.99) and raved about it, so I'd like to try that next time. The haleem was terrific. I've had it before at restaurants like Al-Amin, also on Buford Highway. I think Deshi Street's version is the best I've tasted. It was really good, full of flavor. One of my friends thought it was too salty, but I didn't think so. The goat meat in both the haleem and the biryani was high quality and the cuts were meaty. The meat tasted very good, and not too gamey nor tough. Instead, it was tender, moist, and savory. I'll say the goat biryani isn't the best I've had, but it's still worth ordering. It just didn't hit me with all of the flavors and aromatics that I was hoping for (to be nitpicky). The chicken korma was great. It was rich, creamy, and very tasty. We ordered the chicken bone-in to maximize flavor. The chana masala was recommended to me by another Deshi Street regular. What a great suggestion. The dish was hearty and comforting. I could eat it in gobs. The dal puri was yummy. It was crispy and tasty. This is a Bangladeshi street snack that's worth getting. It was served with a couple chutneys. They have aloo puri too. It's made with potatoes. The chicken karahi was fine. I probably wouldn't order it again since there are more appealing options on the menu to me. Overall, I thought the desserts were good. My favorite was the ras malai, but both the gulab jamun and kheer weren't far behind. I loved both the texture and taste of the ras malai. It was creamy and appetizing, and not too sweet nor rich. Bold Flavors and Excellent Service! This was a real treat for me i was not expecting to be this good! Just by looking from the outside in you can see it's a mom and pop shop straight up. The space is small, and can comfortably accommodate no more than 30 people. All table seating. Before ordering, we were handed a warm wet cloth with lime to clean our hands with. I tried the following: Garlic Naan $3.99 Chicken Tikka Masala $9.99 Kheer $2.75 The garlic naan was fantastic! I enjoyed dipping it in to my chicken tikka masala sauce, which was also fantastic! The masala was rich, creamy, and flavorful. It had generous portions of chicken, too. One of my favorite tikka masalas to date, if not my favorite in Atlanta. I couldn't get enough of it. We were also given basmati rice to go with the masala. The kheer (rice pudding) was a sweet way to end the meal... literally! Texture and consistency were great. Tiny but cosy family owned restaurant that has been open since late last year. Despite the name, the restaurant serves mainly Indian food, but with a Bangladeshi flare. We came here with a very large group and the place literally could only accommodate us (20 people). However, the hosts were very graceful and made sure they provided us with the best service. I tried the Dal Poori, which is lentil stuffed puff pastry and the Samosas as an appetizer. Both were delicious and came out piping hot from the kitchen, accompanied with the green and red chutney. When you ask for fried food, you expect it to be hot, crispy and flavorful. I got all those three from my appetizers. In addition to the appetizers, I ordered the boneless chicken biryani, and a bowl of yoghurt raita. Being adventurous, I opted for the slightly spicy version of the biryani. This did not disappoint too. I could feel a good sweat with every bite that I took and the raita was the perfect accompaniment to tame the spice level. For those who don't like spice, I would stick to the normal - mild selection. first it's on buford highway, smaller place with great service. prices are very reasonable and the portions are good too. we had the chicken samosa-delish!! we also had the bangladeshi noodles with chicken tikka and YUMMY! great spice level. we also got naan, okra bahji and butter chicken. all of it with great spice levels and flavor. food is amazing...it can take a little longer to get but nothing crazy. now, the greatest thing is they are open from 10a-2am! TWO AM, at least for now...and maybe til 4am in the future! what?!? amazing. they do not have alcohol (it is BYOB though!) but have lassi and sodas and desserts. they have a HUGE menu and lots of biryanis and plenty of vegetarian options. parking is free. it's not a super fancy place but the food is excellent and so is the service with great hours and prices. highly recommended! read more

Ok, so the food is legit. First time here was with a girlfriend. It's BYOB so we ordered food, had wine and catches up on life. I've dined in a few times after that and the customer service is top tier. Most of the time I've ordered it to go and everything is packed thoughtfully and secured to prevent a mess when u packing my food. Their tikka Masala, butter chicken and lamb vindaloo are my go-to entrees. The garlic naan and chicken 65 (spicy) are a must. If you're in the mood for Indian, try this place. Food here is amazingly impressive. Not spicy compared to Indian food. Cheesy naan is very good. I ordered korma and it was excellent. Chai tea is very good too. The waiter/manager served us a complimentary dessert. He was very nice and attentive. Will come back again. read more

I'm giving it a 1 Star because the hours are not accurate and it said Open on the store front, yet it clearly was not. Misleading. If you're going, I'd say call them. We googled the poop out of this place to make sure it was opened. Clearly google wasn't updated. read more

SEPT 2019 UPDATE -- I previously gave them 5 stars, then 4 stars -- the primary factors for this was value. Because price was sooo good for what you get. Now that prices have nearly doubled at Deshi, I would definitely recommend other spots that charge the same amount but have better taste and quality. NOV UPDATE - their prices went up, so the dishes in this review are now $8.99 (still with no rice included). I ordered delivery from Deshi recently, and really dug this place. I'm used to chicken tikka masala running me about $12-15.. so it's a steal for $7.99! Food: we ordered chicken tikka masala ($7.99), bone-in beef curry ($7.99), bone-in chicken biryani ($7.99), and naan. The chicken tikka masala was creamy with all the right seasoning. The portion was comparable to most other places, but it doesn't come with rice FYI. The beef curry was spicy, but not overwhelming. I would really recommend the beef curry because it has so much flavor. The only negative is that the portion was definitely small. The chicken biryani was also spicy, though not overwhelming. Out of everything, I recommend this dish most! The portion was HUGE for $7.99, and it comes with a whole boiled egg too. As for the naan, it was disappointing because it was hard and stale. Boo. It was pretty obvious the naan was old. On the plus side, we got a complimentary side of white rice! Service and ambience: we ordered delivery using Grubhub so no comments here. read more

Easily one of my favorite restaurants. It always hits the spot. I've ordered take out probably 10 times and have never had a bad experience. Food is packaged well. Ok, so firstly....this place is open until 4 am on Uber Eats! So for all of you late night post-libations peeps you may want to ditch the pizza and opt for a warming selection of Bengali dishes. I must say, I didn't try many of the authentic Bangladeshi dishes, instead I chose to go wit the $39.99 sampler for 3. For the price it was cheaper than buying each a la crate so a good option if you want to enjoy some leftovers. I did have the lentil soup and it was good. My favorite lentil soup though is from Haveli (Nothing compares. ) The dishes in the sampler included lamb curry, chicken tikka and a vegetable curry. Can't recall the names now, but a good quality selection. All the meats were really fresh and the lamb curry was probably my favorite. Overall. Great food for a 2am run!! If you're looking for a different late night fix, Delhi may be the place for you! read more

Some friends and I went to Deshi Street Bangladeshi for my birthday. The food was amazing! The service, excellent. We started with papadam with mint chutney (pudina chutney) and tamarind sauce (imli) then launched into saag paneer, butter chicken, and chicken biryani with garlic naan. For dessert we had mango lassi and laal mohon (aka gulaab jamun). The saag paneer was so creamy and the paneer had just the right texture, not too hard or too soft. The garlic naan was soft and pillowy and so delicious for scooping saag and butter chicken. The butter chicken was so delicious my friend wiped the whole dish clean with her naan until there was no trace of the sauce left. The chicken biryani was excellent as well. The laal mohon though!!! It was amazing. You could taste the cardamom infused in the syrup, which I thought was really special. I lived in India for a year and spent 3 years living and working in the Desi/South Asian part of Brooklyn so I have an eye for what's good and what's not. Amazing food, probably the best Bangladeshi food you will find in Atlanta. The service is also excellent. They were totally accommodating to our music requests and even offered to take pictures of us all together since it was a birthday thing! The laal mohon dessert they gave us on the house for the birthday too! I was blown away. They definitely go the extra mile to make sure you're taken care of! I recently moved to the area and have enjoyed a few other restaurants but Deshi has moved to the top of the list. I enjoyed the appetizer sampler, two different naan, and of course I ordered the spinach (shaak) curry. This was my first time ever trying Bangladeshi cuisine. I have enjoyed Indian food for numerous years now, and this might become my new comfort food. I really am happy with my meal and looooove that it was actually spicy. So many other establishments say they will make it spicy and do not. I will be returning to enjoy more items on the menu sooner than later. read more
