If this is your first visit please go online and review the full menu before walking in. There are two kiosks you can use to order or you can queue up at the counter and someone will help you there. We came on a Sunday afternoon because I wanted to try the 2 for $10 chaat special. (I brought a friend who also I loves Pani Puri and it's so hard to find!) I ordered the papdi chaat and samosa chaat. Both were delicious and well smothered in toppings and sauces. I always recommend papdi chaat to friends and explain that it's sort of Indian nachos... This didn't disappoint! Husband had the chicken 65 with rice and we added a butter naan order. He chose medium spicy and it was that uppermost "delicious hot" that is both spicy and tasty..., but that spice kept building bite after bite and in the end he made me promise never to let him order medium here again. The naan was big and thin and though soft enough to be torn it was crispy too. (Not the thicker pillowy naan you might find elsewhere.) Sunday at 430 was very busy. We were lucky to get a table and as soon as we were done we got up so someone else could sit down. With the Indian grocery store attached I'm guessing they are busy often. Solid Indian food option in the Overland Park area. Ordered at the kiosk, and you can see your order status on the TV screen. It was busy - almost all the tables were occupied. Lots of people were there for dinner hour. Some booths, some tables, some standing tables. It's connected to an Indian grocery store which was convenient. Food came out at several different times - I got fairly standard dishes, but everything tasted great and was well made. Mango lassi was great too. This place is busy busy busy in the evenings and it is our go to takeout Indian food destination now. They have so many items on the menu and it is also part of a larger chain. The online ordering is easy and even when they give you a 40 minute pick up time, your food is ready in 20 minutes most of the time. Just note that it gets overly crowded and will take a while to find parking depending on the time of the evening. It's right next to an Indian grocery store so there is all that traffic on top of the restaurant traffic. The interior is very small and often crowded and your best option is to place a to go order ahead of time. I love it because they can make the food in a very consistent manner. I was wanting something spicy and the medium spice level satisfied this craving. The chicken tikka itself was flavorful. However, I was disappointed by the cold rice that came along with it. I ordered a takeout (Mysore Masala Dosa & Dahi puri chat) yesterday. Mysore Masala Dosa was really good & impressed me instantly. Sambar (lentils soup) and other chutneys (mint, peanut, coconut & tomato) were really good. Don't be fooled of negative reviews and the low overall star rating of this place. The mysore masala dosa was a little soggy due to takeout, but it was still good. The idli-vada was delicious, and so did the Desi Bites chicken biryani (spicy version). The egg bonda was alright. The chutneys and the sambar were pretty good. I noticed that there's a grocery store, which was pretty neat. The kiosks allow you to order and pick up your order without waiting in line, which is convenient. I was surprised to find that Desi Bites has been in my neighborhood for a couple of years, yet I didn't know about it. It's located next to KC India Mart without any signage visible from the street. The automated and efficient service was very impressive. I ordered at one of the two kiosks and then watched the progress of my order on the order board until my name was called at the counter in just two minutes - nice! The chicken biryani ($13.00) was generously sized and enough for two people, with two tasty sauces, one of which had a good amount of heat. Unfortunately, the dish had only a fair amount of dark meat chicken and quite a bit of gristle. I liked the clean and modern dining area with lively Indian background music. Hands-down this is one of the best south Indian restaurants located in overland Park don't forget to try their Biryani appetizers, their Indian desserts. They are all amazing. There's no doubt that all across Kansas and Missouri is a better Southwest than this. Desi Bites is a small order-at-the-counter and pick-up restaurant in a rather large corner of an Indian grocery mart. I visited on a Saturday night and the place was bustling! All the tables were filled with happy families eating dinner and the line to order at the kiosk was long. Ordering was quite simple-- you can order at the counter or use the kiosk. I used the kiosk and was able to browse through their entire selection before opting for the fan favorite Butter Chicken. The Butter Chicken was fragrant and flavorful with tender chicken. The spice level was true to the medium I selected. The rice was also fragrant with spices and paired nicely with the sauce. The butter naan was also good, although it was on the drier side. Like a previous reviewer said, I was the only non-Indian person in there, so I knew it would be good. They did not disappoint. We started with the samosa chat, which I'd never had before, it was so good! Hubby had dal makhani, it was amazing! The flavor was out of this world delicious. I had dum ka lamb, which was super tender. And we had garlic naan, which was ok. Had enough for leftovers, & I appreciate the recyclable containers, which are also microwave & dishwasher safe. The first time we had their food I brought it home from a catering meal at the hospital and the food was absolutely outstanding! This time we waited 48 minutes for our food when people came in and out several times over and got their food. The cashier was very kind and apologetic, but the guy back in the kitchen putting the orders together was smirking at me and obnoxious. Did we get treated differently because we were the only white faces in the whole place, well I will leave that for you to decide, but it was extremely frustrating and the guy messed up our order in addition!
