Food: My mom's sadah dosa (plain) = solid, crisp, and she enjoyed it. But being out of rava batter in a South Indian restaurant was a big miss--it cuts off several menu options. And since they weren't even busy, it felt inexcusable to be out of one of the core batters. My uttapam = a huge letdown compared to past visits; bland and not bursting with flavor like it usually does. Chutneys = weak point again. The ginger chutney was too overpowering, the coconut lacked punch, and I really missed the tomato chutney I usually look forward to. Two chutneys instead of 3: weak sauce literally and figuratively. Apollo Fish = an Indo-Chinese crispy fish appetizer that's still bursting with taste. I've had some better versions elsewhere, but the fish quality here was pretty decent--not the best, but good. Gulab Jamun = highlight for my mom, and I enjoyed it too. Ambience: Major step up--renovated interior feels elegant, bright, and modern. Gold-colored cutlery, nice plates, plants, a private area, and patio seating. Easily the strongest aspect now. Service: Aloof is still the word--better plating and interior don't change the fact that staff is unengaged. Missed chances: not bussing tables, not offering ice water, not being proactive when the restaurant was nearly empty. Not unfriendly, just flat and detached. Verdict: Consistency is still the Achilles' heel--chef-dependent and unreliable. I'd come back for the Apollo Fish, probably as takeout, but overall this is a generous 3-star (more like a 2.5). The décor saves it from being a straight two. This place really should be doing better--it's right by Costco, yet the lot and dining room never seem busy. They shouldn't be out of basics like rava batter when the restaurant isn't even full. And it's clear they need to advertise or update their menu better--another group came in asking for thali, only to find out it was weekend-only. That confusion shows they're not setting clear expectations online or in-house. After five years, even with new ownership, chefs, and staff, the same issues remain. They've remodeled beautifully, but the food and service still feel stuck in neutral. read more

Simply the best Indian food I've had in KC. I'm a big fan of hakka noodles of late, a dish littered with veggies and savory noodles. There's always enough for leftovers, which who doesn't love? The biryanis have always been consistent and tastey with a good amount of heat and spice. And as always with my orders at Bawarchi I must have a samosa! Just don't forget the sauce and chutney! This our first experience in an Indian restaurant. We didn't know what the spice levels were, it would be nice if they would put a couple of flaming fire emojis to let us know the heat level. I ordered the Chicken Biryanis mild and my wife ordered the Chicken Tandori, we ordered the lowest spicy available but received the opposite and put it out us it tears. The only saving grace is as the garlic Naan. Not spicy at all rather tasty. Though we were the 2nd couple in the restaurant the food came about out 30 minutes later. Beautiful presentation (to spicy for us). After eating there we check the the restaurant reviews in Yelp and we were not impressed. We may go back there after learning more about Indian food. Absolutely delicious food! As today is Diwali, I wanted to get some Indian food, but understandably most places were closed. Bawarchi was one of the only places open, and as I'd heard lots of good things, I decided to order to go. Let's start with the Gobi Manchurian - delicious, flavorful, and the perfect appetizer. The Gobi (cauliflower) was crispy and yet soft, and the medium was the perfect level of spice without overwhelming chili. The Vegetable Hakka Noodles were a little salty, but otherwise pretty good! The Gulab Jamun - my absolute favorite Indian dessert - was perfect. The jamun were just the right amount of soft without falling apart, and the syrup just the right amount of sweet. I was a bit disappointed because I had also ordered a mango lassi that never came. I'm not sure if this was an error on UberEat's part, but I also didn't receive any utensils even though my receipt clearly said to include them. We ordered and carried out approximately $500 worth of food on September 19th for the last time ever from this establishment. The mutton Biryani was so salty, the manager/owner apologized and said that they used too much tenderizer. Half of the adults got sick with the contaminated food and we had to throw the leftovers the next day. When I called to complain the manager/owner took my number and promised to call me later and never did. I tried calling him several times without any luck. He did call my nephew and apologized and told him that he will make sure this will not happen again. Serving bad food is one thing but how they responded to this is not acceptable. Plain and simple. It pains me to leave this review but felt that I had no choice. PERIOD Thank you for your response but my allegations in my review are so serious, you could have reached out to me personally instead of writing a response to my review for public consumption. By your own admission, used too much tenderizer in mutton Biryani, had been cooking mutton for decades and never once used tenderizer. The mutton you guys use is so tough, had to use tenderizer. This has to be the weirdest restaurant with weirdest service. No service standards, staff acts like they have no clue My friend and I walk in, sit down at the table. The server brought us a pitcher of water and two plastic cups. We both ordered a beer and placed my order for chicken biryani, the server walks away without taking my friends order. Had a very very bad experience with this place. I ordered nawabi keema pulav and when I went to pick up the order I was given keema biryani. When asked the person at bawarchi was so harsh and sarcastic. I really don't know how in the world you can confuse pulav for biryani. He was mistaken and still was not willing to change the order and instead was forcing to give the food I didn't order. I have visited this place for dinner and ordered hot and sour veg soup,special kaju pulav with guthi vankaya and a panner sizzler as a starter. This is the first restaurant I tried in Kansas City which turned out as a very bad experience. Hot and sour veg soup- I think chef doesn't know how to make a soup it' was a disaster just water some veggies and a spice(Karam) .I think even rasam/ sambar would taste better than this.,I don't even say this a soup. my wife and I stopped in for lunch today and everything we had was great. while I'm not an expert in Indian cuisine I do know good food. I ordered chicken tiki marsala spicy. My wife ordered a rice dish that I honestly can't remember the name of but it was really good. The tiki marsala that I ordered spicy had a very nice level of spice that was not overpowering. Everything seemed very balanced in the dish. When I order pad Thai at a Thai restaurant, I often order it Thai hot and it was nowhere near as hot as that but if you're not accustomed to spicy food, it might've been too much but they ask what spiciness level you would like. Initially, I wasn't sure what to make out of this restaurant because the reviews are everywhere. I will say that it's nice to have an Indian restaurant so close to where I live! Overall, the food was okay. The samosas were, unfortunately, the frozen kind you can bake at home (I'm obsessed with samosas, FYI). Which at 2 for $5 is a huge bummer. I don't normally get biryani but wanted to try it here. The portion was big (2-3 nights of leftovers) and the rice was flavorful but I wasn't a huge fan of how they marinated the chicken. My friend ordered butter chicken but received tikka masala (she wasn't mad about it) but that was a drawback. I would try this place again as it's nearby where I live but there are other places I'd recommend first. read more

The lady who is supposedly the one to seat you down always makes up an excuse saying they are out of food. If they don't want to care for dine-in just cuz it's too much work then they need to close the restaurant for everyone. We don't have time to waste by planning dinners at a place that doesn't have the courtesy of treating customers with respect. The lady I am referring to is usually running around all over the restaurant, she's not even paying attention to the people standing waiting to get seated and eventually when she does attend you, she says, sorry we have no food left.
