I've been working with Nicole and HOD for a while now on designing my home and home office. First, the team is incredibly friendly. Second, they are very creative, resourceful and great at space planning. My home has a lot of unique challenges to design around, and they've managed to address these challenges thoroughly and thoughtfully. The first room we did was my home office - this was a quick job that yielded beautiful results. The curation of the room and the custom rug and pleated leather chairs are stunning. Second, we finished my master bedroom. Another custom pleated leather item - a beautiful pearlized ivory leather that was entirely pleated by hand - sitting in front of the most perfect wall-covering. HOD is currently project managing a space in my home that was in the works before I met them, and that job is shaping up well and will be done soon thanks to their attention to details and project managing skills. Later this year we'll have an amazing guest room and living room install. Very exited about all the projects we've worked on together, and will be completing this year. read more

I hired Nicole Perrault/HOD for a residential home remodel. After following her on Instagram and seeing her work, I decided to engage her team for her services and to limit my involvement in "project management" as I have a full-time job and family. At the onset, Nicole and her team were very pleasant - appeared organized and detail-oriented and were collaborative in taking our design inspiration photos and working them into the spaces being renovated. After the contract was signed and we moved forward with HOD, my experience with Nicole and her team ended up being nothing short of very unpleasant and highly disappointing. Hiring HOD added significant STRESS and excessive DELAYS to an already difficult process - adding exorbitant and unnecessary costs to my bottom line (like over $1,000 for a Staples-style spiral notebook of our materials!). What?! Ms. Perrault/HOD made several egregious errors (detailed below) and over-promised/under-delivered in MANY of her commitments. Ms. Perrault became defensive and combative with me (her client) when pressed for resolution to issues HOD made errors on - and refused to accept responsibility when they were brought up, going so far as to even ask me if how I was treating her was how I treated my own clients! Note - I was stern after the FOURTH or FIFTH error, but never disrespectful. My clients are never faced with the abundant errors I experienced with HOD, and if I ever do make a mistake - I resolve it immediately, apologize, and cover the expense. That is how you do business, HOD. Additionally, it was discovered that several reviews on YELP were actually written by HOD staff. After several unpleasant experiences and costly mistakes, I terminated our agreement with Ms. Perrault/ HOD only to have them hold items in their warehouse hostage for several days while they attempted to force my hand in signing a "mutual termination agreement" drafted by their Attorney to cancel the contract (which is NOT legal or required). This "agreement" included a non-disparagement clause that read "The parties agree to refrain from making any public or private statements which disparage the other party regarding matters related to the Service Agreement." I contacted my legal counsel, redacted that clause (and others) and returned to HOD - and after threatening legal action, I finally got my items released to my contactor. - Nicole quoted me $100k for our project, knowing that final design decisions could impact that number. I pressed Nicole/HOD repeatedly once our final scope of work had been completed for an "all in" number so I could plan and budget accordingly. After weeks of requests, the final bid came in at almost TRIPLE what Nicole had quoted, right before we started. - I discovered a serious error in one of the auto-cad drawings of our hallway with a miscalculation of over 4-feet of space that didn't exist. This after the HOD team and been on site and in the space several times and only after I reviewed the auto-cad drawings and took a moment to measure myself. - I requested a project start date to plan for a rental and could not get a solid date from her for weeks. While I spent time looking and applying for rentals - those rentals would then go off-market as the lease market was in high demand. - I was quoted a 6-8-week timeline for completion of the project. We moved out April 5th, 2021 - the project is STILL ONGOING, almost DOUBLE what Nicole/HOD had quoted. - HOD is REALLY GOOD at BILLING. I received invoices and bills through their slick Ivy web portal for project supplies, materials, and design time. HOD would bill me for site check-ins and other "design time" - amounting to THOUSANDS of dollars for many things that I didn't ask for (such as, sourcing options for wallpaper when it was already selected!). The site visits were no more than an opportunity for Nicole/HOD to walk the site and self-promote on their Instagram stories - billing me $150+ for each visit and not producing a detailed update for me as the client. - I requested detailed weekly updates. The updates received were not detailed at all and required constant follow-up , even after speaking with Nicole on several occasions about expectations on what these updates should entail. Updates like..."working on stairs" would be sent. What are you working on? Are you meeting the iron worker to measure? Install? Consult on design? Like...what are you doing? - HOD asked what I wanted to do with a wood-topped pony wall in my entry way. I reminded Nichole/HOD that during our first site visit and walk-through, and literally the very FIRST item on my very-detailed list I handed to them was to address the pony wall and stair treads (which were an ugly red-brown wood tone). EVERYTHING in the house was being touched - why would we leave those details untouched?? The contractor agreed to resolve the issue and you guessed it, MY EXPENSE. Where do I begin! We hired Nicole and her team to continue a design job that fell through with another designer for my husband's office. From the first day on the job site, the team came prepared and ready to pick up where the last designer left off. They fixed, solved, and added to what was started and saved us from what could have been a design disaster. They were all very professional and finished the job beautifully and efficiently to not disrupt the business in the office. A year later, we bought a new house and I asked Nicole to help me design my house. This house was going to be a multi-phase project as we had to get multiple permits for a couple different room expansions. I loved how Nicole and her team were able to easily adapt from my husband's modern design in his office to the transitional glam style I wanted in my house. They worked well with all members on our team - contractor, architect, etc. I am on very picky person and it seems I met my match with HOD. I don't think I have ever met someone with same eye for detail that I have except for Nicole. Of course with any major construction, we had delays with permits, surprises when breaking through walls, etc - Nicole was able to troubleshoot through all of these smoothly and stress free always putting me at ease. Not sure where to start here, Nicole is a very sweet lady but needs to learn business and what she actually provides vs true value. Their costs end up being more than double from what they originally quote, thats due to their billing for inspecting items that are bought from them at a mark up then a delivery charge which come to find out had broken glass (hourly rate $175 for non-design work) so not only do they charge you $100 to unbox a small item and inspect it but they never actually do their job they billed you for. They charge you $175 an hour to compile invoices, essentially billing you to bill you! When hiring a designer you should only be paying design prices when the actual designer is doing designing not her minions compiling invoices or claiming to inspect items that never get inspected. As I look through the many invoices this team simply finds every way to invoice you for their time, no real factual functions performed to your design just any and every way to take your money. There were many design items that she pushed (beaded chandelier which I've seen them doing on many homes now via Instagram) these are extremely over priced and ugly she obviously gets a massive kick back. Steer clear as I removed them (2) even though they were not returnable, nothing seems to be returnable. I hired HOD through a referral source for a master bathroom design with an initial quote of under $10k for design work ($186k remodel), I took her highly recommended contractor over my normal crew trusting her let's just say 8 months later it's still not finished, the end cost was over $250k (12x12 bathroom) I'm nagging the contractor daily, she no longer uses him and her own estimate of $10k was billed far more than double that. The referral that recommended her has been extremely apologetic and feels as I do, they need to learn how to do business because all they're doing is burning their clients. Nicole and her team are amazing! We hired Haus to help us with our Master Bath renovation in our home. We wanted to start from scratch and renovate the entire bathroom. They helped us design our entire bath down to placement of where we wanted everything. We wanted a slab sink and they made that happen. Not only did they help us in the design of it but they also took us slab shopping to help us select our own special slab. Nicole had a team in place to help us fabricate this special piece for us and it couldn't be more perfect, we are so in love with it. The Haus of Design team was so attentive and detail oriented not only in the design of things but throughout the entire process.
