I feel that reviewer "David" must have had a personal issue during his visit and decided to misdirect some version of a tantrum at the unsuspecting and lovely staff that I've encountered several times at the Scottsdale location. I encountered a different staff members each time I've been there and have never experienced anything but a warm and friendly (not to mention delightfully cheerful and attractive) staff. Seems quite shallow and unkind to say otherwise. During each encounter, I wasn't quite sure if I would find what I was looking for; and each time, the friendly staff checked on me, gave me the space i wanted to really take my time and look around; then took all the time in the world to answer many questions and show me things I had overlooked. I explained my budget, and the guidance they provided was spot on. In the end, they not only figured out the spaces I was hoping to fill; but they gave me options, recommended a few simple, different pieces that I didn't expect, ended up saving me money AND led to my purchase of something better than I expected. They sat down, took the time and genuinely cared about helping me find something that truly made me happy. Paying for the perfect quality piece that will last a lifetime, instead of wasting money on what's typically disposable furniture these days, is absolutely the way to go. The DWR staff provided a great experience that will have me returning to them over and over. read more

His store in located in the Scottsdale Quarter. Helpful and friendly staff greet you and ask if they might help you. They are happy to help or let you browse at your leisure. There is their main floor and upstairs area for viewing. You may use their elevator or stairs to access the upstairs area. Some sleek and beautiful furniture arranged in a pleasing fashion. The furniture arrangements allow the customer to imagine how it might look in their homes. Very contemporary in feel. Don't forget the upstairs area for more furniture. Purchased Philipp Stark patio furniture from DWR Here in Scottsdale many moons ago .one chair cracked after 4 weeks . They would not stand behind their merchandise ! I can not comment on the staff now . I have not been back ! My on - line purchases have gone very well . No problems . Try purchasing that way and avoid the store ! read more

With so many options to support retailers and locally owned ones, DWR is really not going to be high on my list anymore. This ultimately comes down to total lack of customer service. The vibe at DWR has changed a lot since my last review. At least a greeting at the door would be nice. It's disappointing to see sales reps sitting at their desks and literally either on their cell phones or just straight up staring into the space without acknowledging customers. I've ended up purchasing my Aeron chair and other items from Copenhagen Imports (locally owned!) and will likely just continue to visit Design within Reach strictly for showroom purposes and purchase my Herman Miller and MCM favorites elsewhere. read more

I've been to the Design Within Reach store in Boston, and ordered a significantly amount of stuff from their website. I was so impressed when I went to the store in Scottsdale. First of all, it is beautiful and has a great selection. Second, Ken helped us, and he was a pleasure to speak with. Friendly, and full of information about the products themselves. I loved hearing the history of how products were created, as well as the ins and outs of each product. I will definitely be going back, and look forward to working with Ken in the future. read more

I purchased over $25,000 furniture from Designs Within Reach. I noticed a defective coffee table stand a wood bottom that cracked. I sent pictures to salesperson and after a week was told not covered under warranty. They claimed it was not defective. It clearly was. I would not purchase from this store. read more

This place is exactly as other reviewers have described- ridiculously snobby with zero concept of customer service. Such a shame because they do have nice mid century pieces. I'd never buy from here because of my experience. Laughably snooty. You can not believe the looks you get just walking in. I guess they expect you to just open the door, throw a wad of money at them and then beg them to teach you what matters about design. I've never gotten such pitiful looks before. You work at furniture place. Take it easy. After being stalked around the store, I guess they thought I looked like someone who might try and shoplift a plastic plant or something, they finally informed me they had some things on sale. As if to say, full price isn't within your reach in our opinion, but our poor persons section has something that might work in your hovel. Eye roll. Nothing amazing. Kelly helped us pick out the perfect chair, assisted us in securing the best sale price, and communicated with us throughout the entire process. I expected it but, my god, you work in a furniture store, take it down 100. So snobby, saleswoman actually laughed when she couldn't find my designer in her database (maybe he's not a REAL person, if SHE doesn't know him) and informed me where I could find things "in my price range" thank you for assuming what my range is. I'm giving DWR 4 stars because I'm impressed by the fact that the VP of Ops sent an email after receiving my survey response. I love the furniture we purchased -a desk, Herman Miller chair and 2 chaise lounges...once they finally got here. I can't say I was all that impressed by the sales rep who only ordered 1 chaise lounge after I even asked her "you're ordering 2 chaise lounge chairs, right?". The "white glove" delivery service got pretty botched up and I'm guessing some of it had to do with the 2nd chaise going on a separate order. I am going to say that I think the staff needs training on customer service and dealing with challenges. We love our furniture and I really appreciate that I got a personal email from someone who took the time to apologize for the experience and let me know that it isn't typical and he wants to save us as a customer . When you spend that kind of money at a place, it's nice to know someone values your money! Mistakes happen and I will definitely give them another try based on that. I'm giving 2 stars because they are a store with quality furniture, however, the snobby service and the earlier reviews are accurate. I just so happened to be on Yelp and noticed a review of the local store in SCOTTSDALE Quarter. I was in the store about 9 months ago and experienced the same snob factor. The salesperson who will remain nameless in my review here looked at me after I asked a question and said what do I want to spend, hmm that's a good question. It's not the question that bothered me so much but the tone and how she asked it, it was off putting and so I just walked out of the store and purchased elsewhere. Who needs that, wishing your store the best of luck when the economy slides into a recession. I'm happy because I actually ordered a custom sofa straight from NC... of spending $11k in your store I spent $8k and I got treated nicely. read more

Walked into this store with my wife today. Walked around the entire main floor, and then the upper floor. Not one salesperson acknowledged us or even made eye contact. The salesperson upstairs was busy helping other customers, but on the main floor, 3 salespeople were leaning on the counter talking to each other and drinking coffee. Business must be good! We received attentive, helpful assistance from Ken (Scottsdale) over multiple visits. He had no idea whether we were going to purchase anything. He gave us the pros and cons of the alternatives we were considering. We are very pleased with what we purchased and would look there again. Great store. Wonderful talented staff. The highest quality merchandise. Beware that they rip you off on shipping. A total scam. The shipping charges you pay have NOTHING to do with the actual freight charges. They calculate the shipping cost as a percentage of the sales price! AND the shipping cost is a percentage of the ORIGINAL cost NOT the sale price. So if the item is on sale, you still end up paying the shipping cost as a percentage of the original cost. Totally a rip off! I tried to talk to the regional manager but he wouldn't call me. Disgraceful for a supposed high end store. read more

One of the few places in Scottsdale area where you can get, legitimate, authentic Modern furniture from names like Knoll, Herman Miller, Saarinen and Eames. This is not discount shopping, this is quality statement type furniture that will stand the test of time. I can not get enough of this showroom. read more
