Tim and his brother Ryan worked with the strength and energy of men half their age! Owner Tim was easy to communicate with and provided a clear quote for demo-ing our old kitchen floors and installing Mexican Saltillo clay tile with accent deco tiles in our old school 1910's era home. The demo was two days of grueling work and these guys showed up promptly each morning, put on some 80s jams, and worked tirelessly. They brought the right materials and tools and worked with confidence. I love that Tim actually listened to my ideas and hyped them. He answered all my questions, had good suggestions about what grout and sealers would work best, and was agreeable to my special requests (like putting my accent tiles in just how I laid them out). I feel extremely satisfied with the results. He was also flexible working us into his schedule and scheduling around the teams of other trades we had coming to the house (framing, electrical, plumping, etc). And! - He was open to working on a smaller home! (It's been hard to get some contractors to travel so far for smaller projects). These are good men. Honest. Caring. Trustworthy. My husband and I enjoyed chatting with them on the days they were here. We are soon to be parents and we appreciated all the good encouragement they had as seasoned Dads! Do not hire Tim. I hired him to redo my bathrooms. He used an unlicensed plumber to install the bathtub. That plumber caused a leak. Tim knew about the leak, but went on vacation without fixing it. I sent him a video of the leak and he said it was normal. The leak caused almost $10,000 in damage to my downstairs neighbor's bathroom (which my insurance paid for). Tim refused to take responsibility for the leak. At that point, I had already paid him over $3,000. All he did was pick up most of my tile, demo part of my bathrooms, and start the plumbing. He never offered to return any of the money or pay any of the damage to my neighbor. When I fired him, he sent me aggressive and threatening texts. read more

He installed a backsplash in my kitchen with glass tile and porcelain subway tiles to my specifications. It turned out to look so BEAUTIFUL!!! I initially chose to work with Tim because at the time he had stellar Yelp ratings; this was last fall. Unfortunately, my experience ended up being very disappointing. He started off strong on a big stone floor install which ran into several unexpected issues right off the bat. Tim took them in stride and had a positive attitude, reminding me his customers' happiness was priority one. However, as the job progressed (six months past its initial time frame), it became clear that either Tim's capabilities or his work ethic were lacking. Many repairs were required which were executed as poorly as parts of the initial install, and the wrong materials were used to do so. Where do I begin with Tim and Ryan?!?? What an unbelievable, incredible experience working with them!! We had a flood in our house and decided to do some upgrades while we were put out. We were uncertain of what to do. Carpet? Laminate? Tile? Tim was available to us from day one for all the answers to my 5 million questions. No matter what we chose, he was there to help us. We finally got smart and decided to tile our house in wood planked tile and I have never been more ecstatic with a decision about my home before. Tim of Designed Concepts is totally unprofessional and I wouldn't recommend him. I reached out to Tim to get an estimate for installing tile in 2 bathrooms. Despite the fact that you generally need to see the space to provide an accurate estimate, Tim insisted that he only needed to see photos of the spaces and refused to actually come in person. Nonetheless, I provided the photos and he gave me an estimate that was higher than other quotes I received. When I told him I would circle back once I decided on a contractor, he gave me a 2nd quote for $1,000 cheaper the next day. Less than 12-hours later, when I attempted to confirm the lower price and schedule a time to meet in person, he denied ever giving me the 2nd lower price. But I had his text messages in writing as proof! Once he was caught red-handed in the swindle, he claimed that he had booked more jobs since then and was now too busy for my project. We completed a major renovation of a 3000 square foot house. We hired Tim as our tile and stone installer. He is a true craftsman and artisan. He flawlessly layed out and installed 12x24 honed travertine throughout the main floor of our house, locking the subway pattern around a stairway and kitchen island with a 1/16" grout line. He took great care to make sure all the details were done professionally, and the way we wanted it. My wife and I talk every day how we love the floor and the job Tim did. Our friends and neighbors all comment too on what a nice floor it is. When the job was complete, Tim spent an extra day sealing the floor and making sure all touch-ups and final details were attended to. Tim also completed tile work on a large master bath and a bathroom with a beach entry. The master bath shower and bath surround are 3x6 Italian Carrara marble, and the floor is porcelain. We have seen work done by others, and are so glad we went with Tim! By the end of the project I felt as if Tim was a friend and cared about making sure I was satisfied. Very Disappointed in Designed Concepts. I really dislike writing negative reviews, but have to share. If you need someone to actually show up when they say they will, you'll want to look elsewhere. I have no idea on how great their work is because they totally flaked out on our job. Here's my story: I called to schedule them to do tile work about a month in advance of our close of escrow date so we could have time installed before we moved in. I loved their professionalism on the phone...but in the end it was just talk. After he flaked on our first appointment, I called to confirm the install was going to happen and got a laundry list of excuses as to why they couldn't come during our agreed upon time (which was scheduled a month in advance). "I'll call you right back and see what I can do to still fit the job in." Was the last thing I ever heard...After 24 hours I called back again to see if he was still able to do the job....crickets. 9 days later...still no call. I'm sure they are busy, but after all the positive Yelp reviews I expected Designed Concepts to...well...at least show up or return a call. read more

And when it came time this past year to finally replace the kitchen floor, we reached out to Tim again, before even getting any other bids. That's how confident we are in him. Trustworthy AND skilled and easy to communicate and work with - all those things in any one contractor is beyond hard to find. DO NOT USE use these people. My name is Scott and I spoke with Tim and decided to go with him to tile our kitchen, bathroom, closet & pantry. I decided on him mainly because he was recommended by the people that did our granite work. I need to let them know they should not refer people to Tim. Tim agreed on a price and start date. Our first problem happened when the start date we agreed on was pushed to another date. Then I got pushed again a week later. Keep in mind the day before this job was going to start I pulled out toilet & sink in bathroom. Also pulled out stove and dishwasher. Sure enough Tim cancels on me again leaving us hanging with everything disconnected. Tells me this time he will call me in a week and never did hear from him again. Very unprofessional to be running a business. No money was exchanged but the lack of consideration for other people is unacceptable. Leaving us hanging three times and leaving us stuck with everything disconnected. I cannot speak to quality of work as they were never responsible enough to show up. My husband and I have had 5 bathrooms remodeled by Tim, and while his work is superb, doing business with him has been...rocky and inconsistent. For the first two bathrooms, everything went pretty smoothly. There were a couple of instances where he took sick days or took off for the weekend early or didn't show up to our job without letting us know in advance, which was frustrating; it took longer than promised to finish the bathroom projects. Things happen, and everyone has a personal life, but communication is key. When we bought our new house, we hired him to do 3 bathrooms & some tile flooring right away and the 4th bathroom at a later date. The master bath turned out beautiful as did the rest of his work, however, near the end of the job, Tim asked for $1200 more than his original bid. Since we had become friends throughout this process, he had only texted me the quotes for each bathroom and other tile areas, no formal bid was sent. He did not remember his quoted prices, and had increased his price by $750 on our master bath alone when he was asking for his progress payment. When I texted him screenshots of his original quotes and the amounts I had paid him to date, his reasoning was that the work had turned out to be more difficult than he had anticipated and more time consuming, despite being shown all materials, specs, and drawings beforehand. He also said that he had overspent on materials, and needed to pay his assistant by that weekend. We understand that things happen on a job, and there were a few extras that were added that needed compensation, but changing the total price by so much was unethical. In the end, we compensated him an extra $300 for time and materials. When it came time to do our final bathroom six months later, we had him over beforehand to review the tub and tile design, to make sure he could complete the job as requested and revise his bid from 6 months prior if needed. We coordinated with an electrician to help get the whirlpool tub installed properly. Tim was responsible for building the framing for the tub and setting it in place, the electrician was responsible for all connections regarding the tub. Tuesday, the first day of demo went fine. The electrician came in and did the -wiring Wednesday, which unfortunately resulted in a day with no work for Tim to do because they would have been in each other's way. When he came by in the morning Thursday to pick something up, he told my husband he wasn't feeling well but that he'd be right back. He never returned and never called or texted us to say he wasn't coming back. Another day lost. The next day, Friday, he took off altogether for the Memorial weekend holiday. He said he'd be working on Monday, but again, never showed. During this time we communicated our timeline with him very clearly, saying that we were leaving on vacation in 2 weeks time and that the project needed to be completed before we left. Tim said sure, no problem, he had another job starting even before that so he would have our project completed by the end of the second week, as he himself also had a timeline to meet. On Tuesday following Memorial day, he showed up to our house and told my husband he was backing out of the job. He didn't want to take responsibility for installing our tub as it was too complex, expensive, and too much liability. He returned $200 of our deposit to us, keeping $1000 for the 1 day of demo work he did, and some materials. My husband expressed our frustration as we had been upfront about the project's needs, and had asked him to review all the materials and fixtures ahead of time, and even told him to adjust his bid if needed. If a plumber or consultant was needed to assist him with the tub, we would have been happy to pay for that, but instead he abandoned our job altogether, which we found to be extremely unprofessional. We're reasonable, and have always paid Tim on time and accepted any normal up-charges without complaint. What he charged us to do the demo was outrageous, and now, having returned from our vacation, we are still without a bathroom as there was not time to get a new tradesmen in place before we left. We will now also end up spending more than double our original budget on the project, as there were portions that Tim would have been responsible for that now require additional subs to complete. We are very sorry to have had our working relationship end like this, and would never want to harm someone's business, so we thought long and hard before posting this review. Overall, Tim's work is excellent, he's intuitive and thoughtful when resolving problems with installation, and is fairly priced. However, his business practices are not up to snuff, and we will be hiring another contractor for the remainder of our home projects, and no longer recommending him to friends and family. read more
