Absolutely atrocious! I was at St Pancras station, with a craving for cheese, so I popped in and bought one of their chees platters and a glass of wine.
The wine was OK, if nothing special. The cheese, on the other hand, appeared to have come straight out of a freezer. There was even some (previously) soft goats cheese which had melted a little out of shape, but was now so cold as to be rock hard.
If it had been some cheap place then I could almost forgive them, but the fact is the platter cost around £8. The previous week I had paid only 50p more for a cheese plate in a Michelin-starred restaurant, and each cheese came delivered at exactly the right temperature. The difference could not be starker.
Des Vins is just another cynical establishment which puts all its energy into making the decor look stylish and modern (so they can lure in some of the captive eaters waiting at St Pancras station) and doesn't actually care about the stuff they sell, as long as they can charge a premium for it. Avoid at all costs! read more
