Disappointed ! Took my car in for new struts all around, new thermostat and new rack and pinion. Didn't want the diagnostic because I've had the car looked at 3 times already so didn't want to pay another $130. Talked with Josh at drop off about it and was told, well if anything else happens why your car is here we didn't do a diagnostic so it's not looked at. (Sounds fishy) Get in my car after the repairs and now suddenly the power steering pump is whining like it's being deprived of power steering fluid. Now Brady says "well, you didn't want to pay for the diagnosis. So we can't tell you what's wrong." It was NOT having any issues with my power steering BEFORE I took it in and now suddenly overnight the pump went out when it was perfectly fine yesterday and the belt was replaced a month ago. Make it make sense. I feel like they pinched a line or did something to sabotage my power steering to get more money from me. I decided to take my car home anyways but the whole way it was SCREAMING!! I will be getting a second opinion about this!! Let me also be perfectly clear!! There were NO issues with my power steering BEFORE I took my car in. I've had it looked at 2 times in AZ and once here in Cleveland by Toyota only a month ago when they replaced the belt for the power steering. The rack and pinion needed replaced before the boots were torn and you can't just replace the boots. read more

I was ripped off terribly at this place. I went in for an oil leak, and left paying over $2,500 for repairs that weren't even performed. Josh (the current owner) told me he replaced the Timing Chain and Gear Set R&R as well as other things. I found out all he did was replaced a valve cover gasket and a O-Ring. Terrible experience! Do not trust these people at ALL! Took my Jeep Commander for overheating issue and they claimed found two coolant leaks. Also, they recommended a tune up and said sound in front needed hub bearing. I agreed to all service after all done$ 2,700 later four days my Jeep still over heating still has noise in front when driving! Now I am told oh its Struts. Called spoke to owner Josh he agreed to install water pump that I had purchased myself because another mechanic said water pump leaking for free because obviously still overheating, I left my Jeep for two days and Chris one of the rude doesn't know what he is doing said I'm 99 percent sure it's a main fan issue next day now fan is fine he is spending hours looking! What are you looking for we agreed to replace water pump!! Don't trust this place. read more

These people do decent work, but their unsavory business practices make it so I cannot recommend them. I brought my car in to have the brakes replaced but without my knowledge or consent, they performed a "diagnostic" on my car and charged me an extra $120. Apparently it's part of their policy to perform said diagnostic on every car that enters their shop unless you specifically tell them you don't want it. Now, Detroit Auto Clinic will probably respond by saying that they have a sign indicating their policy. That is true, but they absolutely need to make this policy more clear to their customers. It is nowhere on the website, no-one mentioned to me over the phone, and no one mentioned it to me when I dropped off the car. In fact, when I dropped of my car, the person at the front desk was clearly trying to hurry me out the door. I didn't have a chance to look around the room and take notice of every single policy sign they have posted in the waiting room I came in for a specific problem and never asked for anything more. What's worse is that the person who was at the front desk when I picked up the car didn't seem to know anything about the policies or how to work the invoicing system, so there was nothing he could do. I want to be clear that $120 is a lot of money for anyone, but doubly so for me as a student. I had to give up the cash that I was going to use for my laundry in order to settle the tab. For future customers, please beware of the additional charges this place might tack on to your bill. For Detroit Auto Clinic, this whole thing could have been avoided if you just trained your employees to say "We charge an extra $120 diagnostic fee for all cars. Is that ok?" Please allow your customers to make an informed decision. EDIT: Detroit Auto Clinic responded, and I wanted to clarify that I DID NOT ask to have the check engine light looked at. I never asked to have that done. I exclusively came in to have the brakes fixed. I knew why the check engine light was on, and it was an issue that I was planning to resolve myself. Also, I don't agree with the doctor's office analogy. Let's say I go to the doctor's office for leg pain. The doctor then fixes my leg and starts examining my ears. On the invoice, the doctor lists a $100 "ear examination" fee. When I ask about the charge, the doctor mentions that he has a sign posted that says he performs an ear examination on every patient regardless of what they came in for. Now, maybe I should have noticed the sign, but I would also say that the doctor should have been more clear when I came in to visit. read more

If I could give less than one star I would. Detroit auto clinic sold me a "new" the alternator and rushed the work on both installing it and fixing the power steering which ended up causing further issues to my vehicle in the long run costing me $1,500+ in repairs. I paid for both the labor and cost of a new alternator only to find out after taking my car to a more reputable mechanic that the part was indeed faulty and had been used. NEVER AGAIN. This is the reason why I dislike auto shops because instead of just being straight forward and honest they end up being crooks. UPDATE PENDING REIMBURSEMENT: The owner contacted us immediately after leaving my review to rectify the situation. Notifying us that the employee who worked on my vehicle has since been removed from this establishment due to other complaints of bad work and has offered to give a chargeback. WORST service I have ever had. VERY SHADY. I brought my car in for brake and rotor repair. First off, I was quoted around $400 over the phone. I know sometimes it ends up being more, so when I was quoted around $700 after they looked at my car, I said ok. Then, without my consent, he added another upcharge of $200, so I now paid almost $1000 for brakes and rotors and a caliper I didn't approve. It makes no sense why they didn't notice I needed a caliper when they apparently estimated a $700 cost, so I had no idea that was coming. The mechanic basically said "Tough, I already did the work." which I'm finding out is illegal in Ohio to do. I needed the option to opt out of the back brakes until I could afford it. And then he was rude to me and said it was my fault my car needed so much repair, trying to justify ripping me off. If you choose this location, be VERY weary of the upcharges. Three out of three bad experiences at this place. They, for whatever reason, are terrible at diagnosing and fixing things that you bring your vehicle in for. Kind of a deal breaker when that's literally what you're counting on them to do. What does get fixed seems to be fine, but then they miss or ignore other things that you asked them to address. Also, they could use some serious lessons in customer service. Definitely a rag-tag operation. Happy to go into more detail about my experiences if anyone out there needs some insight. read more

Just be wary of other employees and do your research on part pricing. ---------------------------- Pretty bummed about my recent experiences here. I used to only deal with Gilbert, and he was amazing. Always made me feel comfortable, was very upfront about what I needed and didn't need in order to save me money. I sent everyone to this garage when they asked for recommendations. In the last year and a half or so, I've been dealing with a different younger employee. HeI've needed a lot more work done the older my car gets. I felt pressured to make unnecessary repairs in my car (even got text messages a month after telling him I couldn't afford any extra repairs, they insisted on fixing my struts). I was quoted $1200 for a recent job but had to pay $1400. That never happened with Gilbert. After that, a few days after getting my car back I had a steering issue. Felt suspicious because he had explicitly told me I might have a steering issue in the future but I had over a year before I needed to worry about it. I took the car back, and was quoted $300. I brought a knowledgeable friend with me who called him out on the repair being their fault and also on the quoted price being outrageous. We found the part for $30. My friend repaired it in a half hour. I miss Gilbert and have lost faith in this shop. Unfortunately don't think I'll be returning. read more

Car was consuming engine oil: he changed gasket thinking it will fix the problem but it didn't Car alignment was off according to him: aligned the wheels and the car would still drag to the left. I got a flat tire and because 2 of the bolts were cross threaded by Detroit auto clinic they broke off while I was trying to replace the tire. Ended up going to a tire shop nearby to get it fixed Scheduled an appointment: when I went there the guy said we don't have time can you come tomorrow. Went again the next day: the car running light was not working. He broke the socket and now the indicator stopped working as well. He said he doesn't have time and doesn't have the part and that I have to come some other day AC not working, went to Detroit auto clinic: broke radiator fan attachment and didn't put the caps on on the AC lines The list goes on... Such a major disappointment. Went there because of good reviews. Tried it multiple times. But such a fail. read more

These guys have figured out that they'll build a great reputation, a loyal customer base, and tons of word of mouth by just being stand up guys. Great communication-they tell you what's going on, how long it's going to take, and how much it's going to cost. While I was there everyone who came in behind me knew them and had been there before-repeat customers. Despite how busy they were they were able to fit me in without making me feel like they were doing me a huge favor (once I explained my situation). When I explained what was happening to the car we went on a test drive together & he explained to me what he thought the problems could be. I left with only what I needed to *safely* make a 500 mile urgent road trip. At no point in time did they try to scare me into spending more money. car is an 05' Hyundai Tucson with 100k miles. Took it to a Monro tire for overheating issue. Monro tire in Westlake quoted me 1650$!! Would not do a 1600$ repair, not even worth it. Took it to Detroit Auto Clinic in Lakewood and all they did was tighten the clamps on the radiator and it cost 114$!! All better no issues since! That was 3 weeks ago. These guys are good and honest. I called the Detroit Auto Clinic on the same day I was able to get an appointment. I just wanted to make sure my car was okay- I was about to drive it on multiple trips (each trip being about 6-8 hours worth of driving) to about three different cities, so just wanted to make sure it was alright. Now, the lot is pretty tight, but there's room. I brought it in and I was out within a half hour. The guys drove my car around, gave me a checklist of what may need to be done (but no pressure, and explained to me what they tested as well), and I was out. Wow, that was fast. I'm usually used to having to refuse the unnecessary repairs to my car (just because I"m female doesn't mean that I don't know anything about my car!), but these guys are honest and not pushy. I liked them. Plus, they're super friendly, even joking around with me a bit. Good guys. If you're looking for a cheap and honest place, definitely check them out. read more

DAC knows how to fix cars. They thoroughly maintain and repair your car with what needs to be done. Nick at the front desk was helpful in explaining what needed to be done. I had my 09 Nissan Altima in for a drive belt and oil change. Others quoted me $150+ for the belt. DAC charged me $90 and I took a 1,400 road trip the next day and it worked great! No more squeaky belt! I've got a few other repairs and will be definitely bring my vehicle back. Great job guys! read more

This is one of the best shops I've ever used. I ended up at this place after an emergency and it was close enough for me to push my car in. I was a little weary because this is not a fancy dealer shop with a nice facade. But I'm glad I stopped in. Gilbert, the owner, took my car in without question and he popped the hood right away. Not only did he identify the faulty power steering pump quickly, he even showed me how it was malfunctioning. Now that's honesty!! I was more impressed by the price, which was below the average for a power steering pump. I now bring all my family's cars to Gilbert. He always shows me the problem so I can see it first hand, and he explains the solutions. His prices are beyond fair, and in the rare case that something doesn't turn out as planned, he takes care of the customer. Set up an appointment for a check engine light-dropped my car off overnight--picked my car up and paid close to $300 the next day--drove it for 80 or so miles and the check engine light came back on--dropped the car off again a week later overnight--paid close to $200 again and picked up the car-- the engine light's so far not come back on. Josh knows his way around German cars and is willing to keep working with you on your car to make sure it keeps running and is on the roads. He would even tell you what you charges you can avoid bearing immediately. Honest, helpful. Dropped a star only because I had accepted the initial ~$300 investment after being told that that would help the car, but had to pay another ~$200 later to get my car finally home. Happy to have found this place, and even though I hope I don't have to bring my car back in for the same problem again, should the need arise, this is the place I would probably go to. This place is great! First, he stayed late so I could drop my car off the night before, which was awesome. I went in with a power steering problem and was completely prepared for this issue to total my car. Turns out the problem was a recall which the owner found by calling the dealer. He printed out exactly what was wrong so I don't get sucked into any other repairs at the dealer. They also did a full inspection of my car and told me that I should have it for at least another year. All of this help for just $50 bucks. I will be going back to them for everything...even oil changes. It is really hard to find an honest mechanic that you feel good about going to. So happy I found them :) read more

1. When arrived at my time of appointment they casually decided to tell me they didn't have the part. And proceeds to admit they should have called me to notify me of this before I drove from across from town (which I did simply out of customer loyalty.
