Belle Isle is a beautiful island located just off of the coast of Detroit and in the Detroit river. We took the time to drive around the island and took in the views of the water and parks and lakes that were inside the island. Once we arrived to the yacht club, the security guards were very friendly and approachable and we gave them our names and parked. All of the staff amazed me. The bartenders were fantastic, and even the servers were able to bring us additional food Even though we probably were not meant to have multiple bread baskets. The sunset over the water and the marina outside was just the icing on the cake to a beautiful venue. I would love to be a member here!

They were resurfaced about 3 years ago and still look brand new. But, that is because they are completely unplayable. Whoever resurfaced those courts left air pockets that substantially effect play on all four courts. If you are a 3.0 player or above I would recommend finding another place to play. The problem for us GP Park residents is that they converted the Patterson Park courts to Pickleball courts leaving us without a playable tennis court in all of GPP. It is crying shame that those managing a park system like ours cannot find a solution to this problem.

I still remember as a kid swimming around the adult pool when it wasn't adult time and watching this bigger guy we all lovingly called Boblo boat swim around the perimeter of the pool by using his hands as wheel to pedal around the pool and do his laps. It was also the first time I saw the fool horror of the red Speedo from the slicked backer tall guy that would walk around proudly by the pool, only taking a dip to cool off some. This is where I took my tennis lessons as a kid. This is where I learned to fish over by the harbor piers. They have improved the community center and it's now a nice Tompkin's center and a great communal spot to watch movies. It's great for renting for parties and gatherings. I don't live in GPP any more but I have many friends that still do and thus I still am able to visit this wonderful park that holds so many fond childhood memories for me.

Everyone must sign a waiver and they keep you updated as to how many still need to sign up. Parking is tricky, there is a link to pay, so have it done before you arrive for easy access. The store manager Tom is one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet. He knows what he's talking about and can always point you in the right direction. The showroom up front features all of the sound equipment and there's a lighting room in back to show off all of the awesome fixtures they have. I was very happy with a recent rental of a subwoofer and mixer. The cost was reasonable and they reviewed the item checklist with me when I brought it back. If you can get out to 14 and Dequindre, do it. It's worth the trip.
