You could tell he genuinely enjoys what he does -- he shared fun bits of Detroit history and local trivia as we paddled, and made sure everyone felt comfortable and included no matter their experience level. A few of us were total beginners, and he made it easy (and fun) to get the hang of it. The route itself was beautiful -- great views of the skyline, calm water, and just enough challenge to keep things interesting. Detroit River Sports offers several options to accommodate small groups and individuals.They provide all equipment needed for the tour. The guided tour is about 2hours. The staff are fantastic and very informative. I'm not an expert kayaker but was able to easily navigate the waters. The Detroit River is a bit challenging to navigate due to the current, but the guides are there to help if needed. I learned a lot along the way as we stopped periodically to learn some history about Detroit and the homes we encountered on the canals. I had a blast and want to buy my own kayak!

They are OLD and I don't think any upgrades have been made in well over 50 years. It wouldn't take much to spruce them up a little bit. All things aside, the Detroit River still provides some amazing views. It's pretty amazing how close the boats get to hitting the Belle Isle bridge when they pass under it. As you're approaching, it looks as if the boat is going to hit the bridge. Makes for a bit of a thrill. From reading other reviews on here, it appears they do historical tours. I'd love to give one of these a try next summer!

Kayaking is more than exercise, you get the social component during the open paddles as well as the stunning nature of the Detroit River, Belle Isle, and Peche Island. I tell everyone I know about these excursions and everyone of them is converted to a kayaking fiend like I am. This is the best thing I have ever done for my physical as well as mental health. Ok let's be honest about this Marina I just bought a boat this year and the owner is a complete…read morenightmare he's the farthest thing from a people person I've watched him have screaming matches with people who pay to have their boats docked. His girlfriend the "new manager" gets drunk and gets very touchy(kissing guest, rubbing touching, I even seen her jump up and wrap her legs around a guy who then says what are you doing I have a wife and sitting on a guys lap) fun is one thing being drunk at work is another. The bathrooms were clean terribly I mean mopping the floor with dirt literally. The marina is completely a ghost town due to the marina owner I'm not saying party everyday but it's the weekend in the middle of the summer and it's hardly anyone at the marina because everyone is afraid to upset the owner you have to walk on eggshells around him they don't want to allow you to have gatherings at you boat so no "dock parties" they hardly do any events the only saving grace is Matt the helper and Shawn the mechanic the rest of the staff a complete disaster. Seriously I'd give a worse review if I could. I have video evidence if 3 guys filling up gas in the middle of the night on several occasions more than 1 boat brought this up to the owners girlfriend who said it was fine and they know about it but that's illegal.

This boat launch and small park are run by the city of St. Clair Shores but residents of any town…read morecan use it with no up charge. Boats and jet skis cost $10, effective August 2020 kayaks are now $5. Pedestrians or bikers without a boat are free. There is one porta potty in the parking lot. This is considered a US international border so the gate locks at 10 PM and there is a penalty if you are not out in time. Dogs are allowed in the fishing park and boat launch. Poop bags if you're lucky. There is a gate attendant to take your money and enforce rules. You are not Allowed to swim or wade here, nor would you want to because it is filthy. One mile south is the Edsel and Eleanor Ford house, bird island, and the grosse pointe woods park. This is the southernmost public boat launch until Detroit. It's kind of hard to find, drive east on 9 mile until you can't anymore. Drive between fishbones restaurant and the Mobil And keep going. If you feel like you are about to blow a tire from all the potholes, you are on the right track. I do not recommend kayaking in this area if there is northern wind above 5 miles an hour or southern wind above 10 mph. I also recommend getting off the water by 11 AM when the jet skis get out.

Only recently constructed in 2004 during the first phase of the park's development, it stands at 63 feet tall and was designed as a scaled-down replica of the Tawas Point Lighthouse, a historic beacon on Lake Huron built in 1876. This lighthouse doesn't serve a traditional navigational role like its Great Lakes predecessors. Instead, it marks the entrance to the harbor and serves as a visual anchor for the park. The park itself was originally named Tri-Centennial State Park, commemorating the founding of Fort Detroit in 1701, and was later renamed in 2009 to honor Governor William G. Milliken, a champion of environmental stewardship. The lighthouse is not open for touring but the grounds around it are fully accessible from all angles.
