We spent our wedding night here before going back West, which was my fault having had a bunch of positive experiences here as a kid. It is more on the level of a Courtyard rather than a regular Marriott - 2.5-3 stars, definitely not 4. We had a small suite, which was generic and a bit sterile - not a huge deal if you're just crashing for the night, but not glamorous. The toiletries - which is a Marriott wide problem - are second rate. The hot water in the bathroom sink only reached a lukewarm temperature, which made the pre-wedding shave a bit of an adventure. If you find yourself in that situation, the bathtub water gets super hot, and allowed me to avoid tearing up my face before the big event. The bed was big and comfortable. You are also very close to Somerset mall, and Troy has a bunch of great dining options. Just don't expect a 4 star experience. read more

Am a Marriott platinum member so when my power was out for a few days I stayed here for a night. The hotel is nice but the walls are way too thin. At first I thought the tv of my neighbors was just way too loud but they left and a few hours later I could hear the people talking and could even hear them zip up their suitcase. Needless to say I didn't get much more sleep by paying to stay in a hotel. I called down the front desk and asked if anyone else had complained and the nice girl at the desk said yes and she would move me to another room but they are all like that. read more

I don't compliment hotels on good service unless they go above and beyond what feel is expected. I travel 40 weeks a year and 99% of my stays are at Marriotts. No surprises this week. Thursday morning I dropped off my laundry expecting it be to be returned by 5 pm. 7 pm I called the front desk, was told laundry was currently being delivered. 8:30 called down again, was told the hotel was busy and it would be another 5 minutes. 10 pm, called again. My laundry came up in about 20 minutes. This may seem petty to some folks but if a hotel has an 8:30 am cut-off for accepting laundry they should honor their 5 pm laundry delivery. 10:30 pm is just not acceptable. read more

This hotel is very neat and clean, the food is awesome, beds are comfy, room service is super fast even during prime meal times, and the shades were dark. This is the hotel we stayed at after my husband and I got married a few years ago, and after having a baby that is now teething and up early, I hadn't been sleeping well so my husband planned a little surprise. That was the best part was sleeping through the night due to the comfy beds and the nice dark shades on the windows. My only disappointments are the bad water pressure and the water doesn't get very hot, and for $258 or so my husband asked for the nicest room and it wasn't very big. It will still always be special to me because it's where we stayed after our wedding. read more

We had reserved several rooms for my daughters wedding which was at the San Marino. Not too far from the hotel. When booking I had asked if there were shuttles around 11pm to be able to pick up the guests that were staying in the hotel. They assured me of course. Perfect, NOT I checked in and asked if there were shuttles available for Friday night ( night of wedding) The desk clerk who was extremely rude blurted out NO are shuttles are done at 10:30p, really only a half hour away. Had I know this, I wouldn't have reserved 25 rooms which where FILLED with NO problem. I did reach out to the hotel manager, generic reply. read more

I'd definitely avoid this hotel if you have a choice. The hotel lacks free WiFi, which is always an inexcusable negative in my book. I also stayed when there was a conference at the hotel, meaning the place was booked solid. This revealed a lack of sufficient elevators to move large number of people up and down the 17 floors--it wasn't unusual to have to wait 10 minutes or more for an elevator, which would then arrive packed. Perhaps the worst irritation was the keypass reader on my room's door, which was broken. Sometimes it worked; sometimes it took 5 minutes of trying before it would open the lock. I pointed this out to the front desk and they gave me a new pass but the problem remained. When I complained again, the clerk said perhaps I didn't know how to use a pass key and was putting it in the slot wrong. When I persisted the clerk said he'd have someone look at it, but no one did before I left. Overall, poor customer service and a hotel not worth the price. read more

This Marriott wins the award for the most caring staff. Had family in the hospital, The staff went above and beyond to provide upgraded accommodations over a holiday. Even moved an incoming reservation so I could stay in my room when my stay went longer than anticipated. The special accommodation go on and on. This is the only place to stay in northern Detroit suburbs. Don't even think about trying anyplace else! read more

Our wedding reception went really well. The hall was great, and because our guests could stay, the dance floor was full until the lights cam on. The food was really great, and the food tasting was one of the more fun experiences of the whole wedding planning process. I gave four stars because they did let the buffet run out of food with three tables left to eat. It was about a fifteen minute delay, and they did bring more food, but by then the three tables had settled for mashed potatoes and salad. I spent five nights here for a wedding and attended the reception, which was held in one of the hotel ballrooms. It was a memorable and positive experience, to say the least. I plan on staying there again if I can ever afford to visit my friend (the groom). Location I drove to this location from Cedar Rapids, IA (about nine hours) through the city of Detroit and managed not to get lost. The hotel is hard to miss if you are in the general area. Though, the city had these weird left turns on there streets. They can certainly throw you off if you are not expecting them. Room I had reserved a standard room with a King bed. When I got there they put me in a room with two Queens. It wasn't what I reserved but I didn't really mind. The bed was fantastic. Best sleep I have ever had, I kid you not and I heard several members of the wedding party say the same. A nice tv with standard channels and pay-per-view. Check In I arrived there a bit late at night but the front desk was fully staffed and I was checked right in, they even gave me a complimentary gift basket (soaps, chocolates, that kind of thing) since I was a member of the wedding party. And within minutes of arriving in my room somebody from the staff called to make sure I had everything I needed. Not to mention the sizable discount they gave everyone who was staying there for the wedding. Hotel Staff I have absolutely no complaints here. They were always helpful and professional. Parking Better than I expected. Limited parking right out front and around the side (with valet parking at the door) along with a covered parking ramp around back. the ramp had elevator connecting it directly to the hotel, which was great. Lobby/Restaurants/Bar/Room Service The lobby is large and modern. All the groomsmen (about ten of us) had room to spread out in one little area to play cards while we waited for the bride and bridesmaids to arrive. I only used the bar once, service was good but it was a bit pricey. Room service was excellent. I ordered dinner twice while I was there and breakfast once. It was relatively quick and everything was cooked to order. The Ballroom during the reception is where the hotel and staff really shined, however. I really cannot describe what a wonderful night and experience they had for us. The room was spacious, the wedding party sitting on an elevated platform with plenty of room for all the guests to sit and eat, a bar and dance floor along with the DJ were on the other side and there was even room for photo station where guests could have their pictures taken for the wedding album. The food was excellent, as were the drinks (open bar). Heck, the staff even brought out pizza several hours into the night (the groom absolutely loves pizza) for everyone to snack on. All and all, it was an amazing night and the hotel/staff were a big part of that. Gym/Pool I used the gym every morning except the morning I left. All of the equipment is fairly new and they have a fair variety. The pool was a bit on the small side but indoors and very clean. read more

Dear Amy, Regarding your response to my continuing dislike for the way your Michigan Marriot treats Marriot Reward members I have to say: "I do not care". You had an opportunity to make this right and did not. I do not think you have changed your customer service policies. People in that place violates rules and regulations (open containers everywhere) left and right but I do not see them being in any way reprimanded for their behavior. Also, I believe that in some of these states the police can actually serve as security at night and work two jobs which I find it incredibly a bad idea since being a member of the volunteer police unit myself know for a fact that there is a big difference between civilians and militarily trained forces. I do not think that your security has the customer service finesse to understand when to involve a manager in certain situations. I certainly do not excuse my behavior but if you are going to book wedding parties and children events you need to expect certain circumstances stemming from them. The fact that the Manager told me that the General Manager was not in and that she (you?) could only solve this situation is not up to what I would expect of a Marriot hotel. Because of you, I have cancelled all Marriot related business (credit cards, rewards, etc.). I assume Marriot Headquarters should know about your customer service practices, but there is no Marriot Headquarters Yelp Review I can find. To anyone reading this, I still deeply advice you to stay in any of the other quieter, luxury hotels in the area. Especially now when they need your business the most. Come Spring, Summer, or Fall they will be able to treat you anyway they choose since they have plenty of business during that time. I was here for a 3 hour conference and needed to use an office to make a private business phone call. Because of the number of business meetings, there were no available private rooms downstairs. A lady named Kelsey emailed me back but when it came down to making an appointment to come in she would never email me back so I would email her multiple times, she would say when would you like to come in, and when i responded she never answered. Absolutely outstanding property! Yes 5 stars....I'm a 650 lifetime nights stayed and for this stay I was there with my son for a hockey tourney....the staff, room, restaurant were top notch in every aspect. Noele was great at the front desk as was her colleague. The restaurant was really great service and food, room quiet and upgraded. Beth was so accommodating for this Platinum member b/c we requested a late checkout but ran into logistical issues with my sons hockey game, discussion with his coach that I couldn't get back in time then my wife had to go back and pick up a few things and Beth was great with the late checkout and not charging us for a third night as we had to rush to get to Cleveland to watch our other 2 kids play hockey in Cleveland. I mention because we made it to Gilmour at first puck drop to see our daughter score a sweet goal against the U18 boys so thank you Beth at Marriott Troy! read more

We had our wedding reception here and it went nearly perfectly. We had a plated dinner of about 150 guests, and they served everything efficiently with great presentation. Many of our guests still talk about how fun the wedding was and comfortable the beds and rooms are. My parents and in-laws stay at the hotel frequently, and they have had positive experiences so far. The reason they don't get 5 stars is that the wedding coordinator forgot to schedule our tasting with the chef, and my in-laws were driving up from out of town to go with us to the tasting. The Marriott did give them a discount on their room in return, but my in-laws were never able to try the food until the wedding. read more
