Stopped by on my way to work to try the Iced Cherry Sakura Chai, with a shot of espresso. The drink was pretty good- the flavors weren't too strong. I could taste the Chai more, but really liked the hint of cherry flavor. The staff that helped was friendly and helpful. The indoor decor was so cute and had a cozy feel. Definitely plan on coming back for other drinks and to check out their brunch. They have a few parking spots (in the back) that is for to go orders (and plenty other parking). read more

I enjoyed my experience here. It's a coffee shop, then you walk through this cool secret bookshelf entrance, it's small in there but the aesthetics are there it is absolutely beautiful. The service was a little slow since it was only two servers but they made the best they could and the kitchen was backed up but the food was worth the wait. The French toast was great. The beef bacon was amazing crispy and the fat cooked down (it's hard to find places that know how to cook beef bacon) but overall great experience. I will be back read more

I love Detroit Perk! It's one of the cutest coffee shops in the area. Lovely ambiance, people, coffee and food. I had the egg and cheese croissandwich and truffle fries for the first time today, and it was so good! A buttery, warm sandwich and fresh cut super hot fries. I will for sure be ordering more food from here as well as their delicious coffee drinks. Of note, this is a review of Detroit perk brunch house. Which is inside the coffee house, but a separate room where you are seated and have waiter service. We're in town for the weekend looking for somewhere cute for brunch and this place was def the vibe. A lot of people were cutely dressed in dresses etc, we seemed a little underdressed in our athleisure. They asked if we had a Rez and when we said no said we could have the last open table. Service was friendly and efficient. My rose sangria latte was 5 stars and my fave part of the brunch. We all got the egg croissant sandwich, I added avocado and they didn't skimp on the amount they added which I always appreciate. Overall cute brunch place with great coffee. read more

I really wanted to like this place because the brunch menu has potential, but the service left a lot to be desired. Coffee orders still take 30 minutes to come out, which is frustrating for a brunch spot where coffee should be quick and easy. Our server brought us cups with ice but never actually brought water for 15 minutes, and then asked if we wanted to drink anything besides water. Well, the water would've been a nice start. Staff attentiveness was lacking across the board--basic things like checking in on drinks or keeping an eye on tables just weren't happening. Food was fine once it arrived, but the experience really suffered because of the slow service and lack of attention to detail. Hoping they work on this because the concept is good, but right now, the wait times and inattentiveness make it hard to recommend. read more

Moody lighting and smart decor make for a sophisticated yet approachable cafe with a great menu and friendly service. I went for the "Spirit of Detroit" latte- iced. Rich, sweet, and spicy without being overly complicated, this is a beautiful beverage for those Fall days that still have plenty of sun. "The Spirit of Detroit" features espresso, vanilla, honey, cinnamon and milk- an instant classic! My only critique is that a few of the tables were wobbly and some of the seating, while charming, was quite deep making it hard to get in and out of for some. We had brunch at the brunch house portion of the coffee house and it is a very cool speakeasy vibe with a great selection of specialty and coffee style drinks. My son and I were really looking forward to visiting the restaurant after hearing about it on TikTok. Unfortunately, when we arrived, we didn't realize a reservation was needed and had to sit in the dining area, which was fine. However, during our experience, we felt that the staff was not as welcoming or friendly as we had hoped. It was upsetting to receive someone else's order, and we waited a long time to get our drinks. When our food finally arrived, there were no sauces or condiments in the bag, and my son had to ask for truffle sauce for his fries. The staff initially said they didn't have it, but later brought it to us. Throughout our visit, we felt uncomfortable and undervalued, which was very difficult, especially as African-Americans. We believe that everyone deserves to be treated with kindness and respect, regardless of background. I hope the restaurant takes steps to improve the experience for all guests. Dearborn is officially the coffee capital of the US and Detroit Perk is among the best. And it's new! We went at about 10pm and got coffee and desserts. I've never written a review before, but I have a personal reason to support this establishment. I've been here about 4-5 times and overall my experiences have been good. The reviews about lack of attentiveness on the brunch side (like water refills) are true, but that's tolerable. I don't blame minimum-wage workers; it's hard to be hyper-attentive when your hourly wage barely covers a shawarma sandwich. With that being said, I had an encounter today that motivated me to write this review. Today I ordered the caramel macchiato. Originally, I wanted to try the pistachio drink and asked whether they use a paste or something else. The cashier/barista didn't know and asked another worker, and they told me it was a syrup and basically suggested I choose something else. I was then recommended to "get the caramel macchiato based on purchase quantity." I was asked iced or hot. I said iced, and added "low ice." He looked at me and said, "Are you sure?" which confused me, because why do I need to be "sure" about how much ice I want? I said, "Yes, low ice." He must've heard no ice, which is an understandable mistake--people usually say "light ice"--but I was intentionally specific. I already know most coffee shops play a "concentration game" with ice: the espresso and syrup stay fixed, and the rest of the volume is milk and ice. "Light" is vague; I wanted a low concentration of ice, not a low concentration of actual drink. He then asked if I wanted a 17oz or 20oz cup. I chose 17oz, and he let me know there was a longer wait time than usual (about 15 minutes). It was crowded; I appreciated that communication. When my name was called, I came up to find a half-filled cup--or at best 2/3 filled. I said, laughingly, "Half the drink is missing." He told me I had asked for no ice. I pointed to the empty third of the cup and asked, "How much does this cost?" $8.18 should justify an "extra" 4-6 oz. Regardless, I did not invent their size options; when a business asks what size cup I want, it is understood that I am paying for the drink, not plastic and theoretical ice. He said it is supposed to have ice and would be filled with ice. I said, "Go ahead and fill it." I did not want anyone seeing that they had just given me a 2/3 filled cup. I also told him, "I wish you would've told me," and he replied that he did. Obviously, the question "Are you sure?" does not indicate the cup is going to be half full. This didn't feel like his personal failing as much as a system problem. I asked who the manager was, and he pointed to the lady next to him. He explained the situation to her, and she proceeded to tell me about milk-to-espresso concentration and that the machine is set to a certain amount, and that if she added more milk it would ruin the taste. In other words, the coffee and syrup are fixed, and the "size" mostly assumes the rest is ice. I'm not sure why I, as a paying customer, should care how the machine is programmed if I am not working there. The problem is simple: if choosing "low ice" (or what was heard as "no ice") means a visibly half-empty cup while I'm paying full price, that should be clearly explained before I pay--not justified afterward with technical language about concentration and settings. The individual elements of this story are small. Mishearing "low ice" as "no ice" happens. What actually matters--and what pushed me to write this--is the principle behind how these moments are handled. When money changes hands, there is a trust that the description of what I'm buying matches what I receive. Breaking that, even in small ways, chips away at that trust and tilts the situation toward a kind of quiet injustice, where the business always wins the "game" and the customer walks away feeling wronged. At some point, it stops being about 4-6 ounces of milk and becomes about honesty, clarity, and avoiding even small forms of oppression in how we deal with each other. In our tradition this is the same principle as cheating the scale: maybe the amount taken is small, but the moral problem is the same. Whatever little is gained by hiding behind technicalities, recipe jargon, or vague questions like "Are you sure?" is never worth what is lost in integrity and reputation. Instead of people quietly leaving and going somewhere else, there should be room in our community to call these things out respectfully--especially when we know the owners are from our community and likely have good intentions. I'm writing this because I want to support them, not because I want them to fail. But support has to be built on truthfulness: if you charge a premium price, be transparent about what the customer is actually receiving, and when an honest misunderstanding happens, choose to fix it in a way that restores trust rather than shifting blame. That is better for the customer, better for the workers, and ultimately better for the soul of any business that wants to serve its community in a sincere way. read more

My first time at this lovely coffee shop and I will definitely be back! Very nice decor, dark walls but it makes the art and gold light fixtures stand out for a warm feel. I had a regular latte and the coffee aroma and flavor had a medium(?) strength but very smooth and enjoyable. The cinnamon rolls was fantastic! Perfect size for one, came in a muffin/ cupcake like liner but wider and it goes up to the generous layer of creamy frosting. I just peeled the liner off and picked it up to eat, also like a cupcake, since I ate it at home. But I can honestly say, I would've done the same in the coffee shop! The staff were very friendly and courteous, addressing me by name while I waited, which was maybe five whole minutes in and out. Prices were reasonable $5.50 small latte and I don't recall cinnamon roll price but it was definitely worth it! I highly recommend this little shop and will definitely be back!
