Even though the ferry was still boarding, the employees refused to sell us tickets for that departure, forcing us to wait until the next ferry at 1:15 p.m. What made the experience even more frustrating was that we were quoted $110 at the ticket window, but when we purchased the exact same tickets online a few minutes later, the total was only $96 and some change. The customer service was unacceptable. One employee slammed the ticket window shut while we were trying to ask questions, and another responded with "whatever" when we said we would just purchase our tickets online. It was rude, dismissive, and completely unprofessional. The only reason I'm not giving an even harsher review is because the bartender inside Jet Express was wonderful. She was friendly, welcoming, and provided excellent customer service, which helped turn around an otherwise unpleasant experience. I hope management addresses the customer service at the ticket counter because no customer should be treated this way.

It was…read morepretty easy to reserve a ticket online ahead of time, but in the off season I don't think you really need to. Once you park in one of the free parking lots, you walk a bit to the dock and get your QR code scanned for a ticket to walk on the ferry. They also take cars, but I think a lot of visitors just rent golf carts on the island like we did. We did use the bathroom facilities before getting on the ferry and they were clean. Be sure to check the schedule of timing, especially for the off season, because the trips aren't as frequent and the last ferry back to the mainland is earlier than during the busy season! The ferry ride was so fun and super smooth and only about 15-20 minutes. There was a cute gift shop on the PIB side where we got a sticker to remember our fun time on the island!

South bass island state park is on the north side of the island. The park consists of a stone beach…read morewith a dock area that is open to the public. You can also fish off the dock. There is a small playground area and the put in bay sign to take pictures in front of. The campground takes up a majority of the park. It has tent spots along the lake and other spots with hook ups for campers. They even have several cabin style houses you can rent by the week. The campground has all the usual amenities of the state parks like shower houses and dump station. The roads are very tight and narrow. It can be difficult to park your camper in some spots so call ahead if unsure. They have a gate code to get into the campground. The shower houses had hot water but did smell funky because of the moisture. For the price though you can't be staying on the island. Easy to get to town on bikes or taking a taxi.

I write this more as a warning because I know a lot of consumers use yelp to find places to stay. I rented 3 rooms here for a weekend bachelorette party. The two regular rooms were updated and seemed ok. The "luxury suite" we booked was dirty, but since there were 14 of us, I chose to stay in it, and try not to cause a scene for my friend. It had brown stuff smeared across the ceiling and bugs all over. There was a two inch gap under the back door, so that probably explains the bugs. This luxury hotel, as it's billed, is also located to one of the noisiest bars on the bay. The bar noise is what it is, and the closed promptly at 2 but the people leaving screamed for an additional half an hour. Friday night was noisy, but Saturday was nuts. Saturday night the bars let out and the people who rented rooms next to us and above us were screaming at each other. They had a drunk woman walking down the hall beating on every door and screaming to be let in. Finally the police arrived to break up a fight and check on the woman. The noise continued well into the night. Then morning crew came in at 6:30 to move golf carts around and were very noisy both days. I'm not one to write negative reviews but I genuinely felt unsafe. I approached the man behind the counter in the morning to talk about my experience, he was nothing short of ambivalent and rude. I wasn't looking for anything, but as a business owner, I assumed he'd want to know. He didn't. He interrupted me and told me there was nothing he could do. It was expected here. That this was a common occurrence and that is what the police are for. In my opinion, if people are often feeling unsafe and unhappy, you probably shouldn't bill the experience as a Luxury Resort. call it what it is: a motel for bar patrons. The only thing this place has going for it is the location. It's obvious they are just in this to make money, they don't care about the safety and well being of the people who choose to spend their money there and frankly I found the experience of talking with him and everything else about it disgusting.
