After seeing some friends take an amazing van trip, we decided to try our hand at the glamping / van experience in Death Valley. Before settling on DeVan, we looked at numerous other van options on Outdoorsy but decided this one had everything we needed and Devan, the owner, was also great with answering all of our questions in advance of booking. As our trip approached, we coordinated with Devan as to when we'd like to pickup as we were flying into Las Vegas, staying the night, and then picking up the van the next day. We greatly appreciated that he was flexible with us on the pickup time as we were working and needed to do it between meetings. Upon arrival to the pickup location, Devan was outside ensuring the van was ready for us, so it made it very easy to get the pick-up process done. Also, we had very large luggage (this was stacked with another trip) and Devan allowed us to unpack the necessities into the van and then leave our luggage / extra clothing items at his home so we had extra room to enjoy. Not only was that a nice gesture but he also provided a few extra items that he had available which was not expected. Once we were unpacked into the van, we got a quick walk through, some tips on maximizing the experience and then we were ready to go! Once on our way, we made a quick stop to fill up the propane tank as a just-in-case thing at a place Devan had told us about and it was super easy/ cheap to do. We then made the drive to Death Valley and began our adventure. We arrived late that evening and immediately went to an event where the van made it all extra enjoyable as we were able to open the doors, engage with others and see the beautiful sky full of stars. After the event, we took the van to our campground, got our spot and then settled in for the evening. Everything was super easy to adjust to sleep (the couch opens and the cushions unfold) and it was surprisingly comfortable for a van! My bf is very tall so we did have to do some diagonal sleeping but it wasn't a problem at all once we got that figured out. Each day, we drove the van to the sites we wanted to and loved that we didn't have to leave just to grab lunch or use the restroom - we had everything we needed and were pretty well set. The stove top worked well which allowed us to cook what we wanted (fajitas, pasta, etc.) and the fridge was a decent size so we could keep the fresh ingredients and some drinks on hand as well. One additional thing with this van that is a huge plus is that it has a shower and it's easy to setup... and you have hot water which is a must. One thing I would note/ suggest is that if you are taking a trip for more than 2-3 days, learn how to fill the water tank as something that is good to know. We had the perfect amount of water for our trip but had it been any longer, it's something we would've wanted to know. My favorite evening on the trip would have to be when we drove to Dante's View to watch the sunset as we parked the van, climbed on the rooftop with a couple of drinks and watched the sun go down. The views were stunning and so many people stopped to chat about how we had the best view and to ask about the van/ experience. Once people started to clear out, we came down from the top, opened the doors and cooked dinner with the most breathtaking views - you can't beat it. Similar to the check-in process, Devan provided us some flexibility on the drop-off process and was very clear with the instructions. We filled up the gas tank, unpacked back to our suitcases and then were on our way (after a nice chat with Devan about the trip). Devan really was a fantastic host and made the experience pretty seamless from his end. All in all, this van was great and allowed us to experience places in a fun and unusual way! I rented this van for a long-planned camping trip near Beaver, Utah--an area close to 10,000 feet in elevation. What I wasn't told until after I picked up the van is that it was a retired Amazon delivery van, which makes a huge difference when you're heading into high mountain terrain. The van wouldn't start when I went to pick it up, and the owner--who wasn't even there to do a walk-through--had to call roadside service to jump it. He also filled out the check-in form on my behalf, before I ever arrived. That alone should be a red flag for any future renter. Once I got it running and brought it home, the van stalled again--this time at my community gate. The owner brushed it off, saying this was "normal" behavior for Amazon vans. That was the final straw for me. I did my own research, and sure enough, Amazon vans are notoriously unreliable at high elevations. They're built for city deliveries, not remote, mountainous terrain where a breakdown could become a serious safety hazard. I'm a 54-year-old woman traveling with an 11-year-old dog. Getting stranded at 10,000 feet or in 100+ degree temperatures traveling to and from my destination isn't just inconvenient--it could've been catastrophic. I returned the van within an hour of picking it up. No trip, no adventure--just disappointment, stress, and a big loss of money. Between the van, the supplies, the campground reservation, the fishing license, and the time off work--I was left to pick up the pieces of a trip that never got off the ground. If you're headed anywhere with serious elevation or off-grid locations, do not rent this van. And honestly, any owner renting out a vehicle like this for mountain travel without disclosing its limitations is being irresponsible. Future renters deserve full transparency--especially when safety is on the line. In response to your response.. Yes, I did say that I would remove the review if you gave me a refund like you said you would. That is called common courtesy, not blackmail. AND I provided you with the receipt of how much I paid. Over $1,400 for a van that I had for one hour. The RV company refunded my $360 of the $390 I paid in insurance so yes, I'm asking for the balance, not of the insurance but the rental. How can you say that I'm asking for more then I paid when you clearly saw the receipt. This only goes to show what kind of person you really are. I tried to make it right and you did not. I didn't even mention that I had to find another place to stay outside of where my original destination was that cost another $700. I only did that because you agreed to refund me what I paid you. So now, if you refuse the refund, I'm out over $2,000!! read more

DeVan rentals was better than we imagined. We rented the DeVan XL and had plenty of room and storage for my husband and I for a week. We were both able to stand in the kitchen and cook/prep with no problem. The layout of the van is so efficient with every inch of space having purposeful use. The owner was easily available and would reply in minutes to any questions I had leading up to our trip and during. 10/10 would do it again!!
