Review # 434 - First To Review
So this Health place was a first in my life to experience Physical Therapy (PT) on Monday May 8th. After a ice pack weekend resting from draining my right knee of fluid plus a shot of cortisone from Dr. James Bookout, he insisted on physical therapy. Associated Orthopedics is conveniently across the hall from Team Rehabilitation too. His paperwork referral was for three visits a week/one hour for a total of 12 sessions, to strengthen the OA in both of my knees. I am avoiding knee replacements!
I have a health issue passed down from both of my parents with bone and joint pain. In February I felt more soreness then continued for three months working from my past job as a housekeeper, cleaning 10-12 apartments a day by kneeling.
I was interviewed by Jonathan Narr, PT to confirm my weakness and diagnosis from knee doctor with Osteoarthritis/Bone On Bone in both knees. My first morning workout was light to get familiar with the physical therapy. Currently I do not need replacement so the more to put if off the better I say.
I was excited to start the 3 day a week plan with hopeful results when done.
Physical Therapy of the knee is common and mostly a part of disability in Michigan and other states too.
My schedule was to warm up on the bike (photos attached) for 10 minutes to wake up the legs. Second was 6 minutes to squat and stretch on the Total Gym machine (not my favorite due to sharp pain)
My Stretching Exercise Program:
Standing Calf Stretch (30 second hold 5 x)
Sitting Hamstring Stretch on Table (30 second hold 3 x )
Laying on the table with Leg off to stretch with a belt clipped to my ankle also known as a Quad Stretch. (30 second hold 3 x)
My Strengthening Exercise Program:
Was Walking with a Red Theraband known as "CanDo" sideways with resisted steps.
Zig-Zag Monster lol walking with the same Red Theraband or "CanDo" (When I finished Physical Therapy I graduated up to a Green CanDo Band) :-) Photos attached
Sit & Stand from a bench chair with 2 sets of 10. (Tiring too)
Bridging with an Exercise Ball for my knees, legs and lower back (20 second hold with 2 sets)
At the end of my hour PT Session , I rested with two gel ice packs on knees elevated for 10 minutes timed by Harley or Christina.
I have written in my review above my routine only to help and assist other Yelpers who are having knee pain issue as myself and do not want surgery.
I was interviewed on my last session with Jon Narr and given a handout worksheet to continue my morning wake-up routine for therapy at home. I have a mountain bike set up in my garage in a stationery mount to ride or based on weather I will ride or walk 2-3 miles carefully in my neighborhood for continued workouts with My Knees and OA.
