If you're sick and tired over over-priced mega salons that try to sell you everything but the toilet and upcharge for what should be industry standards, then I HIGHLY RECOMMEND Devine's. It has an intimate, rustic, and comforting feel- soothing and relaxing. I've been a faithful client for over 7yrs and I can honestly say that Jenny is BY FAR THE BEST hair dresser I know (and I am incredibly selective, as I grew up in a family that owns one of the most successful salons in Chicago.) My hair seemed to be the only downfall of moving to AZ. It was always done by a family for free. I never had to explain what I wanted- they just KNEW what to do to make me look fabulous. Then coming here and actually having to PAY for my hair- OMG!!!! I had no idea how to communicate what I liked or wanted. After spending tons money and hours crying, I really thought it would be cheaper to fly home to get the look I needed. But then I met Jenny. I can sit down in her chair and not say a word. She is so incredibly talented she just intuitively knows what colors and cuts make me look AMAZING. People are always envious of my hair. And my secret weapon? Jenny. Hiding in a quaint little hole in the wall Aveda salon on Bell Rd. It's not exactly close, coming from PV- but it's well worth the drive because I walk out the door satisfied EVERY time. Very unprofessional staff and the salon is small and tight. It is not clean and I even pointed out a cockroach out to them. She just picked up a broom and swept it up, no apologies or anything from the girl. Brushes, combs and scissors were all dirty with hair. Very disgusting! Linda was skilled, took the time to listen and did an excellent job - making changes and improving my look! If you are accustomed to, and want, the chic-Aveda experience with the exposed ceiling, brushed concrete flooring and black black black everything - this is not your place. If you want REALLY good service, experienced and well trained stylists, and the feeling of being "at home" in the salon then this IS your place. I went here to get gel nails with my mom and the nail tech did a fabulous job, she is great. I got them done for a wedding and they did not chip at all until I finally removed them 2 weeks later. Pretty disappointing. Had nail polish all over fingers and toes, didn't cut nails or cuticles. Supposed to get massage with what I paid for but it was bad. nails were smudged but she didn't fix them and she didn't know how to do gel. As a guy it is easy to go to a chain but they always mess up my hair. FINALLY I found somebody who knew how to do my hair! Yes it is cramped, not super tidy and small but everybody was cool and friendly. As I was there they were making some aesthetic improvements so they are trying. I am a tough customer and picky to say the least but Manana my stylist killed it. She started off with scalp massage that nearly put me to sleep it felt so nice. Then a great shampoo experience, the set up they have is the best hair washing station I have ever seen. This place is such a joke. Everytime I go in there...there's only one person. I wonder if there's ever any business. Judging by the recent reviews, business doesn't seem to be doing that well. My wonderful boyfriend bought me a package deal offered through Devine's for my birthday. He was such a sweetie! The offer entailed 4 seperate visits. A haircut, manicure, facial and a follow up haircut. All for $48! Sounded great at first. I was reading all the things you get with the facial and manicure and I was interested. Set up my first appointment for a facial. The facial is supposed to include a consultation, 30 minute massage, scalp and shoulder massage, a personalized mask and so on. My facial was like 20 minutes long and I couldn't even relax. She kept going on about how dry my skin was and how great our products are and it was just UGH! If I could I'd give this ZERO stars. I see the reviews are all for nails, but DO NOT go here for your hair. Worst 3 1/2 hrs. of my life! Appointment was at 10:30 and should have been out by noon; missed a 12:30 birthday luncheon but that was only the half of it. Had to go through about four different processes to try to correct the horrible mess she made of my hair color. Ended up putting my hand up, telling her just to stop, and walked out with wet hair, which was neon yellow and looked like Big Bird. Besides being totally damaged. If they offered, as she did, would YOU go back to a place like this and let them try to fix it? I think not. Had to live with that embarrassment for weeks before I could go to someone who knew what they were doing and get normal hair again. Also, the place is filthy and has only one sink, so you sit and wait to be rinsed out until that chair opens up. So you're sitting there with chemicals burning your head and overprocessing. It's normal for gossip in a salon but these women talk loudly about very personal and inappropriate matters (including about other employees who aren't present), AND fight with their husbands on the phone in front of clients. It was a total three ring circus! They claim they've been in business in that center for over 25 years and I can't imagine how. The new guy I'm going to mentioned he knew the owner and I had to just bust out laughing and told him the story. I am the owner of Devine's. I have tried to respond to the people who wrote negatives on my business with no avail. You cannot respond and when you contact Yelp, you get no answer. The last 2 negatives by Kim B. dated 4/22/13 and Elizabeth L. dated 5/2/13, I tried to respond and was rejected by Yelp. Since I have been in business for 25+ years, I take comments whether good or bad seriously. So I went back to my appointment books and no where could I find these two clients. So therefore, I am assuming that these people do not exist. I am also giving my store 1 star, because if you give yourself a good rating, Yelp will not post it. Devine's is an Aveda salon, with some very talented people working here. We constantly are going to classes. Since January 2013, we have attended 6 advanced color classes, 1 advanced cutting class, and we are getting ready to attend the International Beauty Show in Las Vegas Nevada. Devine's is all about education. Our prices are fair, $28 for a wet cut, $38 for a haircut blow-dry style for ladies, $23 for a mans haircut style. Our haircolor is Aveda color and it starts at $65. We also do other services, such as facials, manicures & pedicures, waxing, hair extensions, chemical relaxers, smoothing treatments for curly hair, and perms. Devine's has been open 25+ years. During that time, we have remodeled and redecorated 5 times. Now I know that might not be important, but it is important to me. I work there, and I like to work in a nice environment. I have gone in other businesses that have been open that long, and for the most part, I have never seen a change. I feel it is important to put money back into your business, and I know my customers like this. I hear things like "I love your new front desk" or "This has to be the most comfortable shampoo chair". In regards to cleanliness, we are right on. Our pedicure room is small, clean and comfortable. It appears the only people who have ever complained on yelp are the ones who come in with coupons. I have clients that have been coming here since the day we opened the doors. They have sent their families and their friends, and when approached by strangers who ask "who cut your hair", well guess what?? Those people come too. We are a friendly neighborhood shop. Sometimes we get crazy busy and sometimes we are quiet. But we always do a good job. Before you write your bad comment, I would only hope that you would contact the salon at 602-942-1611. Please ask for the owner or the manager. We are consumers too, and if we did something wrong we would like the opportunity to make it right. If I was able to give them 0 stars I would have. First off when we arrived we were greeted by the mom who was somewhat nice. Then it was time for our nails to get done and they only have 1 nail tech but they scheduled an appointment for the same time for my girlfriend and I. How stupid is that. So I had to sit next to her and wait. Then the really young girl said I could sit down for my pedicure and I put my feet into the makeshift water tub thing. I was sitting there and the girl was about to start when the older lady came in there and said "this is not going to work. This is just not going to work. She's not going to be able to do your feet now. You will have to wait until your friend gets done with here mani them she will come in here and get her pedi done then you can get your mani-pedi done" her tone was super rude and her and the younger girl argued right in front of me. OMG that was ridiculous. Our appointment was at 5 we arrive around 4:40 they started on our mani-pedis around 4:50 and we didn't get done until 7:15. They were so slow and not very relaxing and very unprofessional in front of there customers. Also it looked like a 5 year old did my toe nails when you look real close at them, they are really sloppy. Totally dissatisfied with the service they provided. I am trying to give this business a neutral review..because the mani/pedi itself wasn't bad...but what upset me was a couple of things. First, I am a strong independent professional woman. Please don't try and make me second guess my nail color choice and then ask me what my husband will think of it? Who cares!! I like it. Its kind of your job to support your clients choices. But whatever...she was young. The Mani/pedi was fine, not enough massaging for what im used to, but I did initially call to take advantage of a groupon. I asked the lady if I could just pay them directly since they say they get none of the groupon money. To me, as a business .this is great deal. She acted like it didn't matter either way. Well, the Groupon was for $30. It cost me an extra $15 for the gel French manicure. If I am paying you directly, you are making an extra $30 than you would have had I purchased the Groupon! And when I asked about a small discount since I did it that way I was told they have "tried that before and it didn't work". So...I normally tip really good...but I didn't feel valued as a customer. Also...the normal price for a pedicure is $30. This was in no way worth $30. Nothing special about it, no hot towels, hot stones, etc. If I pay that much for a pedicure, I expect it to be much more!
