That is no ceremony, no viewing, just let Tri-state pick up the remains from the hospital and return them to me in a suitable container. I am sure Tri-state offers more elaborate funerals. I remember for my grandpa funeral a long long time ago there was a manager name Tracy who was really good and was super helpful during the process. Since Tracy has been gone the quality is declining and now the business is just gear toward money making. The interior is old but clean. The viewing room is very spacious. When it time to leave and drive to the cemetery the funeral home doesn't have placard card to put into people car in case you get a ticket from going past a red light. All in all, if I had a choice I wouldn't use this funeral home but it the only one in the area that is close to the all soul cemetery.

Mind you he was set up and ready to be viewed. We were his family and wanted to settle in before guests arrived. However, we reminded several times that we were early and even when the gentlemen didn't even know the correct time he said. We asked if we should wait outside and was told no, but you're just early. He blurted out "We normally open at 10 l" He never said "Hi" "welcome" "sorry for your loss" would have been nice as soon as we walked in the door. I know people feel like they have to say everything on their mind but how often do you expect us to be here to feel the need to share that information? I think using a bit of grace, patience and withholding your own feelings and words that come off as a complaint. I understand that these days people dont really want to work or even that they are burnt out. But this is a business of mourning and grief and when people are spending their money at your establishment the least you can do is be kind even if you have to turn on the fake smile and greeting 10 mins earlier for a grieving family. When I also asked if the music which was very emotional gospel music could be turned off. I got pushback and questioned about not liking it and that it's on it's lowest volume. When we inquired about closing my uncles casket we got a "that's on y'all" type of response. He had a bad attitude the entire time. I understand people in the industry are probably numb to all this but these are peoples loved ones. I will say that he redeemed himself to explain that it once it's closed he can't reopen for late guests. In a situation like that I would have from the jump explained that in my experience it's best to wait. I think this funeral home could use a dose of customer service consultation. As someone who consults in customer service, it's very unnerving to see a lot of establishments lose focus on providing excellent customer service especially in an industry where you clientele are emotional mourners and grieving their loved ones. I'm very aware that doing this over and over can create a sense of numbness or just seeing the deceased and their families as paying customers but please remember that peoples are saying goodbye to their loved ones who they have life long bonds with. I hope that this funeral home doesn't lose sight of that with their future customers. Lastly for the condition of the building...I think you all might want to revisit being a little nicer for the people who decide to use your services. I understand that y'all are affordable and honestly the only option for a lot of people in this community but please asking you to clean and make that place a little more welcoming to grieving families. Oh and I forgot instead of them calling us to tell us my uncle urn wasn't big enough they gave us his ashes in a plastic bag. I know it didn't fit but the least you could do is provide a low costing box so families arent traumatized by looking at their loved ones remains in a clear plastic bag. It was basically just an alphabetically directory of local options--although a few were "recommended" by the hospital, many on their list had disconnected phone numbers or defunct websites and the ones that did not had what seemed like astronomical fees, not to mention some incredibly officious receptionists. After calling about ten options, many over 30 minutes away, I decided to simply look on Yelp for a funeral home within a reasonably proximity to where we were staying--if we were going to have to pay through the nose and interface with laconic staff, at least it would be close by. When I called Advent, it was after their listed business hours, but to my surprise a friendly man named Ray picked up the phone. He said they were closed down for the day, but was happy to answer any questions I had. He gave me immediate estimates for a host of different options as we had not yet decided exactly how we wanted to proceed, beyond doing the initial cremation. Every quote he gave us was about half what the other places had quoted--and many of those places had more stringent policies around when decisions be made by; the fact that Advent was only a ten minute drive, seemed friendly and professional, AND had the most competitive prices, it became a no brainer. The next morning, we came in and met with Della-Reese. What an absolute gem. Just like Ray, she was warm and welcoming. She gave us a tour of the facilities, everything from rooms where a funeral/memorial could be hosted, to urns and biodegradable box options. We appreciated her no-pressure attitude and how sincere she was walking us through paperwork and final steps. The circumstances surrounding having to choose a funeral home will never be ideal, but we were SO lucky to find a place with a team that was compassionate and welcoming--from our first phone call to completing paperwork, to picking up the remains. Even when I changed my mind at the last minute and asked them to deliver my mom's ashes to my home (because I was trying to avoid an emotion trip out to and back from Chantilly), they were just super nice about it and got me on the schedule for the very next day's delivery! Two of them failed to disclose all their fees until I asked additional questions (based on my research), one of them was double the price of the other three, and the fourth one was Direct Cremation Services. I met with a gentleman named Kip, who didn't try to upsell me, and gave me a package that met my requests. The costs were significantly lower than the other three places. He assured me that Direct Cremation Services would take care of everything, and explained both the logistical process and the paperwork/payment process. When my mother passed away, on a weekend, Kip returned my (notification) call, emailed me the link to take care of the documents, and immediately send his team out to transport my mother's remains. He told me the paperwork could wait until Monday. Thereafter, everything went as promised, and I picked up my mother's "cremains" yesterday. An unbelievably smooth process during a difficult time. I can't recommend this place enough.

tl;dr: beautiful facilities but horrible, dare i say disrespectful, service…read more i will say everything preneed was fantastic. the two cathy's (at the funeral home and the cemetery) were amazing and helpful. they were very understanding and cooperative. the only negative i have to say (not about them) was that the process took a long time. i was there for about 5-6 hours going over funeral and cemetery plans. here's where things went downhill - the day of the viewing service and the day of the graveside service. this was for my father, by the way. we had ordered two guest books for the day of the viewing service. when guests starting arriving they were nowhere to be found. ben had left us with what i can only assume was an intern to take care of us. when asked where the guest books were. she did not know and it took her a while to find them. also, turns out the casket spray was different than what we had selected. ben's response was they had misread the spray selection. even though it was typed up on the contract? he said they would not be able to compensate us for their mistake but would try to get the correct spray for the burial service the next day, which, to their credit, they did provide the next day. we just had the wrong casket spray for the viewing service. the last HUGE mistake they made during the viewing service was technological. they were playing the slideshow of my dad but kept it playing during the WHOLE SERVICE. that means that pictures of my dad were playing while we were singing hymns and while the pastor was giving a sermon. super distracting. so i go to the back of the room to see if they could turn the slideshow off and turn it back on after the service ended. there was no one back there! i clicked pause on the slideshow to stop it and went outside to find the intern to help turn the tv's off. i eventually found her and she had no idea how to work the computer. she ended up closing the slideshow which made the desktop picture show up on the screens. if the desktop picture was the fairfax memorial funeral home logo or a landscape photo, that would've been fine. but the desktop picture was a cute little baby hedgehog in a bed of flowers/grass. so the pastor is giving the message and for, i kid you not, 5 minutes, this desktop photo is on the screens behind him. now i understand some funeral services would welcome moments of levity like this but this was a very serious service. his death was sudden and unexpected and this just felt disrespectful. fast forward to the next day. we are waiting in the processional behind the hearse to go to the gravesite for the burial service. we had told everyone to arrive at 10:00am for the service. the hearse starts leaving at 9:50am to which my brother-in-law asks them if they could wait for 15 minutes because people were still showing up. at 10am the hearse driver gets out of his car and comes up to me (the driver of the first car of the processional). he says, it's 10:00 we have to go. i ask him if we can wait just 5 more minutes because people are still showing up. we didn't want them to get lost because the cemetery is very big (and beautiful). he huffs and gives me an attitude when he says, "i guess we'll wait then." like i'm inconveniencing him by waiting 5 more minutes. i was shocked how rude he was. so like i said, the facilities are beautiful but the day of the viewing service and burial service, the customer service was absolutely horrible. if their goal was to get my mind off of the death of my father by how bad their service was then they partially succeeded. again, we received no apology or compensation for any of the issues we faced on the service days.
