I'm glad this place has helped some people. I am not one of those people. 1. Your physical therapist will be juggling multiple patients during your session 2. At the beginning when they do the massage stuff - mine wasn't even paying attention to me - instead, chit-chatting the whole time with another employee 3. They give you some exercises to do while there and then leave you alone so no one is watching form, etc. 4. I had to ask for home exercises. I was told "just do what we did here". I had to ask again for a print-out of the exercises and be seemed surprised to be asked that. 5. After two sessions I went from having a simple issue of pain upon certain movements to greatly reduced shoulder function. Stay Away. read more

My physical therapist retired and I needed a new one for recent problems. I decided to try this place based on recommendations. Very disappointed. The owner staffs it with traveling therapists that are there for a few months. They are nice but not particularly invested in your care. If you are lucky, you might have some consistent appointments to help you before they move on. Otherwise they might leave mid treatment and/or you see different people. No continuity of care. Great experience so far! My physical therapist is Jessica and she is very thorough and spends time explaining the correct way to do exercises. This office has a family owned vibe and everyone is friendly. Before starting on exercises, you get to get a heat pad or ice pack for your body part you are working on, then you go to exercises and then you finish off with a heat pad or ice pack again with cool electrodes that are supposed to help with pain. STAR Physical Therapy is a great place for PT. I first went there in around 2014, when I had a small break in my elbow. I was treated about 3 months, and by the end, my elbow was fully back to its prior functioning. When I needed to obtain PT in early 2020, for a 9-12 month rehab schedule following knee surgery (ACL + cartilage + meniscus all repaired), I naturally considered STAR. I'm 6 months into the PT rehab, and the recovery is going very well, thanks in large part to the professionals at STAR. They have 4-5 PTs on staff, plus two junior (non-PT) staff members for each shift. The facility if fairly large. There is a dedicated cardio area. There is a weight room area. There is a room with 4-5 patient tables, where they work on the patent with massage, "cupping", graston tools, or other treatments. And there is a large room for patients to receive pre-treatment heat, and post-treatment ice and/or stim. The staff is extraordinarily friendly, engaging in banter during the session and making the session fly by with chit chat. Don't get me wrong - as the name suggests (STAR = strength training and recovery), they work you hard. While the treatment can be challenging, it pays dividends in terms of quick, lasting recovery. During Covid, STAR stayed open, as PT is considered an essential service. I was grateful for that, given the long recovery road I was facing. The moment the Covid shutdown started, STAR quickly pivoted in order to comply. To promote cleanliness and physical distancing, they drastically reduced the number of patients being seen at any moment, and implemented a rigorous cleaning regimen. Everything that someone touches is immediately cleaned after the exercise is finished. One of the 2 junior staff members is dedicated to just cleaning - watching to see when each patient is done with a piece of equipment, and then immediately cleaning it. And masks are enforced. The staff is professional, knows their stuff, and provides excellent physical therapy. While I hope I never need PT again, if I do, I will certainly return to STAR. read more

This is my first time writing a review on Yelp and I would choose 0 stars if there was an option. My partner went here twice for Physical Therapy. The first session was good but the second session was pretty bad. The therapist said he wanted to spend the time wisely and give some new exercises but he clearly didn't put much effort, the exercises he gave were information you could found online; he wan't paying attention and was treating other patients at the same time. The worst part is the billing. We were told that the total of copay will be $35 each visit with the insurance, but afterwards, they send us a bill including a bunch of inspections and exercises, resulting in over $100 for the first visit, and that is after the $35 and insurance deduction (it could be the insurance acting weird but why didn't they disclose the possible results instead of holding back information and making themselves look nice and affordable). And it only get worse, we paid the bill in October, and today we received another bill (December), saying that we still own them over $200. And the most sketchy part is that they didn't list the payment we made in October! We have to call them and make a complaint, and we are still in the process of figuring out what happened. They either have a very shitty billing system that doesn't know how to include previous payments, or they are just very sketchy. People who are busy and didn't have the time or patience to go through the lists of items on the bill could totally miss it and pay them twice. Please be careful!!! read more

Many thanks to STAR Physical Therapy! My experiences here have been 100% excellent--life changing, in fact, because they've competently addressed chronic pain in my back and neck (not at the same time, thankfully) and released me as a far stronger and smarter person. Not only were they able to remediate the underlying causes of pain, but they also teach techniques (exercises, stretches, etc.) that strengthen patients' bodies and that patients can use on their own in the future should an issue/tweak occur again. The staff are totally professional but also keep a very positive, upbeat atmosphere in the facility, which I greatly appreciate when I'm working so hard. They keep solid safety protocols during the pandemic--I did not worry at all, and I'm pretty paranoid about the virus. If you find you need PT at some point, STAR is an excellent choice. read more

Ruptured my Achilles and needed to find a PT. I had two friends attend STAR and both highly recommended it. After my experience there I would recommend this office to everyone. The staff is super knowledgeable and listens to what your goals are. Michelle, Remy, Christina all helped me immensely in rehabbing my Achilles, my first visit there I was on crutches, and I left there being able to return to almost full activity, if I was able to stay longer I'm sure I'd be able to return to full activity under their guidance. The entire staff is incredibly friendly always making you feel welcome coming in, and always happy to help you. If I ever have any issues in the future I'll be sure to return to STAR PT, and anyone looking for a new PT you should absolutely set an appointment. read more

Team work is the way to explain this facility. everyone is fantastic and well knowledgeable, from Jason, Michelle, Nicolette, Matt, Amoljeet, along with the front desk staff and Stephanie at the helm of it all. I have had many experiences with STAR Physical Therapy. I started in 2015 with shoulder surgery. Since that time, I have been there for hip, back, and total knee replacement this year. Every physical therapist I have had has been professional and kind. You begin with heat before your PT and end with ice or heat depending on issues. The staff doing this is awesome as well. Stephanie handles all the scheduling, bills and so many other duties. She is great. Every time I have gone for my session, every PT there says "hi Sue". It truly becomes like family because that is how you are treated. I have recommended many to STAR and no one who has gone has been disappointed. If you need PT, go in and check out STAR. I have tried many PT businesses, and STAR is by far the best I've ever had the good fortune of discovering. I went there years ago for my bad back and it improved greatly, and recently i began sessions there for my severe mobility issues. All I can say is WOW! Where I couldn't even get out of bed about a year ago, at this point I am able to walk, and perform normal activities once again. My neuropathy has improved vastly as well. This facility provides a safe and sanitary work environment (masks are currently required), and i feel all my needs are being met above and beyond. I especially love Jason and Michelle as therapists and Howard is a great owner/operator, who keeps this business running as well as its been for years. All of the staff is extremely personable, and they have worked with me to get my proffered appointment times.I highly recommend this place and it gets 5 stars in my book! The worst service I have ever experienced. I worked with Sara. I had ACL Reconstruction Surgery, and was recommended to do physical therapy. I was excited to be on my way to recovery, and the first appointment went great. I enjoyed the fact that she gave me papers of exercises that I can do to speed up my recovery. After we got our acquaintances out of the way, she started acting very cold. She would work on my knee for 20 minutes and would make me do the exact exercises that I did at home. Not only that, she wouldn't watch me to see if I did them correctly. Next, a 10 minute ride on the bike (Lady, don't you know I go to Stanford? That's all we ever do to get around...) After a 10 minute icing of my knee (Did I mention I could do this at home?), she'd send me off on my way. Then she has the guts to tell me to come more often. Are you joking me? I'm not retarded. If you're looking to have a chat with a PT, then sure this is your place to go. It just seems like a yuppy hang out place for those that have aches from aging...but if you've got things to do, this is DEFINITELY not the place for you. read more

I've had a few injuries in the past year, and have been to several physical therapy places. Star was not for me. The physical therapists at Star are expected to treat several patients at once. This means they throw some ice on your injury, run off to treat some other patient, and run back 10 minutes later. Or... if they are busy, run back 15 minutes later. Maybe 20. The only thing about Star that might be good, is that the atmosphere is social and upbeat. I mean 'upbeat' in the sense of an 80's aerobics video or high school cheer squad (which drove me nuts) but I could see the atmosphere did make some people happy. Remember though, that social therapy is not physical therapy -- if you're looking for a good time, this might be the place, but with such a large number of people around, don't expect to get much medical attention. read more

I had one initial consult here with "Joey" a few weeks ago. I was trying to avoid surgery after a fall in December that injured both knees and my left shoulder. I used to work in the medical field so I arrived organized and ready to go. Paperwork filled out and note pad to write any notes and/or exercise recommendations. I have had knee surgery before and had done P/T at Bay Sport in Redwood Shores (Elsie is great!) and the P/T Clinic at the RWC Stanford Sports Medicine Clinic. I chose Star Physical Therapy honestly as they are very close to home and getting around with two bum knees is not easy. NOT impressed and my feelings are that your initial visits are kind of like dating - people should be putting their best foot forward and attentive etc. I have no problem with being one of several patients the therapist is working on, that's reality in today's managed care environment. I was not happy I felt not listened to and very little to no hands on care was given. I was examined briefly, told to ride the recumbent bike to check my range of motion and then sent off to an assistant for a TENS treatment and ice. And my insurance charged $175. I asked for exercise instructions (hey I was taking Vicodin and middle aged, I need notes people!) and left with nothing. I asked that when I was there that I do things I cannot do at home - therapist working on my knee, ultrasound etc. I belong to the Redwood City YMCA and don't want to pay to go ride Star's bikes. Therapist talked around my comment but did not agree to put together a plan with my wishes in place. At several points in the hour I was there (as a brand new patient) I was left sitting on the exam table just waiting for someone to come do something. No organized system seemed to be in place. My time is as valuable as everyone else so didn't appreciate being ignored. I ended up needing surgery and had it done a week ago by Dr. Bradley Graw at SOAR, great doctor and staff there! I moved my care to Shoenstein Physical Therapy in Redwood City on Veteran's Blvd. Went there Monday and what a different experience! My therapist Kevin spent the hour WITH me checking my knees, showing me stretches, making sure I had copies of exercises to do at home. Needless to say I will be moving forward at Shoenstein now. read more

It is casual, accomodating, professional and knowledgeable. The entire staff is helpful and encouraging from top to bottom. They are always willing to address any questions or concerns that I have. A physical therapy friend of mine gave me a description for STAR--"shake and bake." They put a warming pad on you, do a little massage, send you off to do your exercises, then ice you with electrical stimulation. Each therapist seems to have several patients going at once, not really working with any one patient for any length of time. My therapist paid very little attention to me. I actually had to ask her many times whether I was doing a particular exercise correctly, whereupon she would come over to me and show me some kind of adjustment. (This was while she was standing at a counter/console, supposedly practicing physical therapy.) It is a friendly place, with lots of talking and interaction. However, paying them for physical therapy was a waste of my (and my insurance company's) money. I have since been to Adient Sports in Palo Alto twice, post surgery. They are true professionals, and work with you to achieve results, including hands-on therapy. No comparison! read more

Today was my first day evaluation day and so far so good. I had Allie today and she was really good and listened to what I said. I'm actually feeling better about having to do PT after today went well. I wasn't looking forward to it at first because of past PT experiences at other places but after today it made me feel better about having to do it. Another plus is it takes less than 10 minutes for me to get there and I never knew it existed before and drove past it quiet a bit. read more

Knowledgeable staff, variety of rehabilitative equipment (and multiples of most equipment so you're not waiting to use things). As noted in some of the other reviews, there's definitely a level of sociability, but I wouldn't call it reminiscent 80s aerobics instruction or anything (there's no one yelling 'woo!' or 'feel that burn!' or such things). When I'm getting my therapy, I'm not social, personally (not standoffish, but I have nothing to say about the sports they're talking about or what their kids did and the like). There is, as noted in other reviews, some patient overlap, but I've never felt abandoned by my therapist. If you need someone standing next to you to critique your every move, maybe this would bug you. I specifically *don't* want that, so I like that I'm left to do my exercises in whatever order I choose. If I have a question I ask it. If my therapist wants to change something (such as "I want you on there for 15 minutes, now"), she'll chime in. read more

When I started researching Physical Therapy venues near my home, knowing I would need (& want) sessions 2 weeks post total knee replacement, Yelp was one of my resources. Of the many places I checked out, few (maybe one or two) had nothing but 5-star reviews. Of those most convenient, all had 4 out of 5 stars. Weighing those reviews and coupled with relatives', friends' and acquaintances' input, I decided on S.T.A.R. I began my post-surgical therapy in late January and just wrapped up my sessions. I've had a 5-star experience and wish I could continue going there simply for support, camaraderie and workouts! They do have a convenient post-therapy support and exercise program offered 2 times a week and it is being considered for just those reasons - continued support, camaraderie and workouts. I haven't touched upon the caring and carefully considered approach to meeting my post-surgical recovery goals. My therapist in tune with me and with the goals of my surgeon, developed a plan to nurse and encourage me to meet those goals. She was flexible and adjusted these goals as the sessions went by, according to my progress. Along with my therapist, the other professionals at S.T.A.R became familiar with me and with my goals. There were times when I needed to work with these other professionals when my therapist couldn't be available. They matched her flexibility and quickly put me at ease with their unique approaches and abilities. I looked at this 'approach by committee' as a plus! I learned different ways at looking at specific exercises and could adopt what worked best for me. All staff are open, warm and welcoming. This is a small, close, slightly crowded and not fancy facility. And those are pluses for me! It is quiet at times and at other times, humming with conversations. It was comfortable and homey but definitely and always professional. I feel this and their approach to providing physical therapy lent S.T.A.R. its 'want to do/can do' approach. S.T.A.R was the right fit for me! I can't recommend S.T.A.R. highly enough. The location and facilities are great, but it's the staff that puts this place in a class of its own. The staff are unfailingly cheerful, encouraging, professional, honest, patient, and kind. I am a born worrier, and the staff at STAR (especially Jason & Ashka) took all my questions seriously, asked in detail about any pain I had, and just generally reassured me so much that I felt brave enough to do everything they recommended, and got better very quickly. The staff are so friendly and happy that they create an environment in which the patients also act friendly and happy, and it feels like we're all in this together, supporting each other, joking around, and making new friends. Anyone who's ever been through the time-consuming experience of physical therapy will appreciate how they can make what could be a frustrating and agonizing experience elsewhere into a positive and uplifting one. I am definitely going back to STAR the minute I hurt myself again. Recommended for all ages. I saw everyone from great-grandmothers in their 80s who needed help walking up a couple stairs to elite athletes who needed to get back in the game ASAP. The staff treats everyone with equal respect and kindness, regardless of age, fitness level, BMI, gender, or ethnicity. Great people! read more

I had a wonderfully healing experience at Star Physical Therapy. Howard has created a community, or better yet, a family, of excellent, knowledgeable, and caring physical therapists and assistants whose friendliness and camaraderie model the way all their clients act towards them and fellow clients. I worked with Remy who challenged, encouraged and inspired me not just to recover, but to gain more strength and stamina that I've ever had. He was quick to adapt to my needs on a given day, though not to react too quickly to a momentary weakness I might experience. I was sorry to see my PT come to an end. However, I have joined Jason's exercise class and find it a perfect follow up to PT. read more

First time I've had PT that actually did what they were suppose to do. Danielle is awesome! I have been working with her for my lower back since Feb. and thanks to her helpful hands, advice and guidance, I am finally able to get back to the gym and start working out again. Once I was ready (with a helpful little push), they got me back into their gym working out little by little. Because of that, today, I am able to walk back into my gym and workout. I was referred to them by my sports medicine doctor for my left knee pain and the first day the therapist seemed a little lost didn't know how to treat my injury just basically used a plastic roller and nothing else on my quads and did some leg raising exercise with electrodes nothing more I figured it was my first day and that was the reason the second time I came to see them the same therapist wasn't available to treat me instead they assigned me to a therapist who was barely able to shake my hand and they again had me do heat to warm up for 10 minutes and they wanted me to do the exercises for 20 without any interaction from my therapist at all I told them that I had gotten treatment in college for other injuries and that I knew what a therapy session should be and that this wasn't it I stopped the treatment and left just couldn't continue with the therapy which was a waste of my time they didn't seem to care and couldn't even return my original prescription since they had shred it or discarded it after they scanned it this isn't the best place to get treatment or to get any type of relief don't go to this location I'll be contacting my doctor so that they remove this place from their list of therapy providers it seems that the therapist there don't really know what they are doing read more

STAR Physical Therapy is an interesting place. The therapist I worked with was highly skilled, patient, and well, not with me that much. The therapists have to balance two, and sometimes three people at the same time. This might work for you. Not for me. I can do exercises by myself at home. I come in to PT to have a therapist work with me. Huge screen tv, turned up loud with football. Everyone that works there is friendly, and gregarious, shouting hello and how are you across the room at each other. Normally I would appreciate this environment, but I was in a lot of pain, and well, not in a jovial spirit. Facility has a lot of equipment, and lots of room to move around. read more

My wife hurt her back and was referred to them by her doctor. I explained to them that she has a very large deductible and they said that they would go over her treatment plan with her and charge $100.00 cash for non insurance payment and if she liked it she should go 3 times and they would give her good exercises to do at home. Most of the time on the first visit was filling out paperwork, then some guy talked to her for about 5 minutes and put her on a treadmill and left her unattended. When I went to speak to them to set this up the treatment plan I spoke to a female and she was suppose to treat my wife and she did not. Thy guy after the treadmill had her lay on a table and did 5 minutes electro-stimulation, then turn around face down and put ice on her back then he gave her a copy of exercises to do at home that her doctor had already given to her and that was it for treatment. The were suppose to lay out a full routine for her and work with her and actually treat her for an hour and we thought we could actually get 3 to 5 treatments and she could get better, not just stick her on a treadmill for 5 minutes, put 4 electric probes on her back for 5 minutes then ice her for 5 minutes. After 1 treatment that did not help we got a bill for several hundred dollars. We were suppose to have 3 treatments that actually worked for the same price. I paid them what I thought they were due for the service they provided with a letter and never heard back from them. read more

I was really put off by the negative reviews on STAR, but I decided to call and ask about their services (and ask about the reviews). Charles was amazing! He is one of the owners, and he spoke to me for 45 minutes about the reviews and the general mission of STAR, etc. He was so gracious and kind, that I decided to go in. I was paired with one of their senior therapists (Gail), as well as Howard (back specialist, and co-owner). My back has been in very bad shape. They were SO attentive, SOOOO good. Don't be put off by the look of the place - it's older, and standard, like a tank, or an old Pentax camera (dependable, the best, but no huge bells and whistles to distract). They are clean, dependable, and strong. They are not sleek, modern, or snooty. This isn't really a complaint, because if they were sleek and new, the place would have an obnoxious spa feel. It would lack it's own character, if it were modernized. Definitely go here. The therapists are educated, they are fantastic, and they DO treat you right. The owners care about what you think, and they will take the time to talk to you about your concerns. Pay no attention to the negative reviews (or ask the owners about them if you are concerned!). They do such a good job here. It's old school, and you WILL feel better. My back is much better, and 3 slipped discs are not fun. I recommend them without hesitation. read more

I am honestly a bit shocked to see all of the negative reviews about STAR. While some of the complaints are legitimate ( they do work with several patients at once, the facility is not brand new, it is a social atmosphere) I just don't see them s being that negative. I understand that people especially in this area are used to getting a lot of individual attention, it just really is not needed as much as you think. Once you learn how to do the exercises do you really need someone standing over your shoulder? That would just annoy me. As far as it being social, I mean really people what are we complaining about here? You're seriously upset because the therapists are not rude and uptight? The friendly atmosphere is one of the reasons I rated it a 5. Everyone knows my name and says hello when I show up. They know how much I love Cal Poly so they always mention it. That is customer service 101! Besides being friendly and knowledgable what I love most about STAR is how generous they are with their time. I am scheduled for my normal session time but they let me stay as long as I want to get all of my rehab in. In this fast paced day and age where we are all just widgets moved down the assembly line it's great to find a place that cares about you and not a time frame. If you want to be done in a hurry then you can be, but if you're like me and like to warm up and ice down and take your time STAR is the right place for you. Just try to get your MD to stay in the room for more than 15 minutes and you'll see just how valuable this really is. I almost forgot to mention how great they are with billing and dealing with insurance companies. My insurance seems to fight, delay or refuse just about every claim, but STAR has them billed and funded by weeks end. It is literally the only place my insurance has not fought me on. Not having the insurance headache alone makes STAR great in my book. Oh and by the way.... in addition to being friendly, generous and caring they are also very good at what they do. read more

I gave a rating of 1 star because this place is not a good fit for me. It might be good for some people, though. I have some doctor approved goals that I am working toward (getting back on the bike and skis) after an ACL reconstruction. The physical therapists at Star appear to be philosophically opposed to goals. They have a cookie cutter pipeline they put you through. If you happen to make enough progress to achieve a goal, it is a nice coincidence, but not by design. I came to them with doctor approved goals and was looking for 2 things: * help meeting those goals * help to create a program with intermediate goals so that I stay on track In my case, more than one physical therapist there explicitly refused to help me with those 2 things. My guess is that creating individual programs for each patient interferes with their cookie cutter pipeline method, which is probably very profitable for them. If you are not an athlete, not goal-oriented, and are just looking for a relaxing and social place to recover from an injury or surgery, I'm sure Star would be happy to collect your insurance money with a smile. On the other hand, if making progress is important to you, I recommend looking elsewhere. read more

This is my first stint with physical therapy, for a frozen shoulder. The STAR staff has been professional all the way: super attentive, concerned, involved, and friendly. They've pushed me quite hard, but not so much that I dread the visits. It's a social place: the staff banter a bit, and they're friends with each other, but never to the exclusion of the clients. Once you've been there a few times, you run through the routines on your own, but someone is always watching to make sure you're doing the routines correctly. My shoulder is 100% better, in just a few visits. Also, I've seen them with elderly patients and they *never* patronize. Considering what they're doing - pushing people to their limits of strength or pain - this is huge. read more

The staff is excellent, knowledgeable, attentive, and kind. Jason did the evaluation for my mother who fell and broke her neck and arm. He was reassuring and got her to do exercises without making her mad (a real skill, take my word for that!). I was so impressed that he studied her information before meeting her, so that the session moved quickly and efficiently. The rooms are clean and well laid out. The equipment is good. I have been to several different Physical Therapy places for myself (back, neck, elbow, knee) and none were as good as STAR. Go here if you need physical therapy! read more

I don't generally review a business unless I feel it rates a 5 star. I can say I'm receiving the most knowledgeable, personal attention available. I went to other establishments before Star Physical Therapy - just to check them out. No contest. The others fell short. From Charlie in the office to Kathleen as receptionist. . .everyone takes pride in offering the best in service. Howard has over 20 years experience working personally with each patience's doctor. He keeps a close eye on your progress and knows how and when to push you to obtain the best results. After an injury it is encouraging to be able to feel progress each week. read more

I've been treated here for the last 2 weeks after having an ACL replacement. My experience has been very positive and I feel like I'm getting great treatment and attention to get my knee back to be stronger then ever. My doctor gave them them very specific prescription for my treatment, which they follow very closely. My prescription also had very specific instructions on exercises to do at home, which my therapist went over with me. I also very much enjoy the positive, friendly atmosphere at Star. Love the team at STAR. Spent almost a year off my feet waiting for my plantar fasciitis to heal (no pun intended) on its own with the stretches and rest prescribed to me by my doctor. Finally came to the conclusion that taking a fresh, active, and dynamic approach was what I needed and the STAR team gave me all that and then some. They had me doing load baring exercises right away, recommended a couple key at home stretching tools (e.g. Medi-dyne pro stretch and strassburg sock) and just generally made me feel like an athlete again. I can't say enough about the care, customer service and attentiveness of their staff. Knowledge, experience and professionalism are requirements in PT and STAR excels in every category. The exercises they gave me off-site have worked wonders and I now go back for 'tune-ups' like I did this morning. It's not for everyone but 'cupping' (as seen in the Olympics on swimmers - the red circles on their bodies) is something few PT providers do as it takes knowledge and experience to perform the procedure. This place is like the spa of physical therapy. I've tried PT all over the peninsula and this is the best I've found. I am a registered nurse and I have been going to STAR for over 3 years for various issues such as frozen shoulder after shingles, post-arthroscopy knee and lower back/hip pain. I have been educated and healed every time. These people are professional healers. I travel 30 minutes in order to get my healing work done there. The first visit is usually for assessment, making a plan, establishing rapport, (and facing the truth about the problem) as I see it. Dr. Joe has awesome assessment skills and loves to educate. Subsequent visits are based on what you need. If you don't seem to get along with one person, try someone else. Michelle and Joe are pain experts, and Danielle will get you exercising the right way with cheerful encouragement. They are all creative, so if something isn't working they take a collaborative attitude, so it is important to tell them. The professionals there each have different backgrounds and strengths. Although they all are hands-on, they listen if you are in too much pain. Pain can cause fear and depression. The people here are friendly and try to help you have hope about your issues. I always leave with less pain (usually none) and a better attitude about my "situation". I like that they have a system (moist heat packs, exercise, stretch, massage, ice and stim). Any health professional knows that it is important to warm up on the bike before critical stretches, etc. and I like that they want you to become independent. If something didn't translate to my club, like leg presses, I got other exercises to do that were equivalent so that I could continue the healing process after the visits were done. This is the first time I have had to go through physical therapy. I injured my shoulder and was in pain. My experience at STAR was much better and more successful than I expected. Everyone, from the receptionist to the therapists, was professional and helpful. I worked primarily with Michelle but also with Danielle. They were great! I appreciated getting sheets describing the exercises so I could remember how to do them at home. I also agree with Jeff V about having several pieces of the same equipment. This meant I could get in, work with a therapist, do my exercises and get on my way. My shoulder is much better thanks to STAR (and the fact that I did the exercises they recommended regularly at home). read more

I was diagnosed with a "Frozen Shoulder" by my Doctor. He recommended Star Physical Therapy based on the good results his patients have had. When I first went in I had very little movement and a LOT of pain. And it was getting worse by the day. I could not even raise my arm to turn on a light switch. I was desperate! And bound and determined to avoid surgery (which doesn't always work). I have pulled muscles in the past but this was totally different. Jason Powell did an evaluation and explained to me exactly what was going on. He then set up a stretching/exercise routine for me at the clinic and at home. What he prescribed worked wonders! Within weeks I was getting more range. But it took a lot of work, 3 routines a day, every day. A small price to pay to get the use of my arm back. It has now been 4 months and I am 90% of normal. These guys are great. Very nice, they'll work you hard if you want that, but they'll also make you feel like they're your friends and not just the people inflicting pain on you a few times a week. Went there a year ago to rehab a busted ankle before my Mt. Whitney hike, they did a great job, I had no problems on my trip. Going back again (working with Leslie, who's a sweetheart and knows what she's doing) 'cause I tore up my other ankle hiking recently. I don't think I have any fully-intact joints left! read more
