Third arrived, and the server took a very long time to come back, then asked our third what they'd like to drink. The drink never made it to the table. Another server came by to ask if our third would like a drink. Once the food made it to us, the food was decent, but when you have to return to work, you hope that a lunch will move at least at an average pace. We had a couple different servers check on us- so overall it seemed like folks weren't sure who the table belonged to. It was also way more expensive than I remember Original Joe's being (but I haven't been since before the pandemic). I think for the price, I would be more inclined to eat elsewhere.

Before the main event I perused the menu with the manager telling me how good the food is. I ordered a steak. It was over cooked and the meat tasted as though it was spoiling. So the food is terrible. That's one thing. The second thing One of the patrons who knew the band, on her own volition went downstairs to the local bowling alley saying that everyone should come check out the band later. Well, the staff at the bowling complained to the manager of the Duck. He didn't like that too much, so as the band is setting up an argument ensued between the patron and the bar manager. He points at us and demands that we pack up our stuff and leave because she went downstairs to promote the band, claiming it was "illegal" and that "we" sent her down there. I've never heard such BS in my life. Was he afraid of the business?? And secondly, it's called free enterprise there's nothing illegal about it. Needless to say, for a venue that doesn't advertise their bands, pays next to nothing, they were actually blessed to have such high caliber musicians coming to share their music with. Their PA system was totally mangled, and they didn't have the stage cleared for us. On top of it, they accused us of stealing their mic stands that were literally taped together- thanks but no thanks! We all invest heavily in our own equipment for a reason! To sum it up: I am boycotting this venue and I recommend all musicians do the same.

Waitress: "Canadian." Me: "I'll have a Canadian." Service here is very good. The ladies who have served me remember my name, and are always warm. Mary in particular is a totally amazing server, and one of my favourite waitresses in the city - I look forward to seeing her every time I go! Make no mistake though, these servers know how rough around the edges their clientele can be, and they don't take crap. I can tell. Karaoke nights are hilarious and just as unpretentious as the rest of the Hawkeye's experience. Go on a Thursday-Saturday night and find out for yourself!
