I don't know what you expect in a BBQ restaurant, but this one was unlike most I have been. Most BBQ places turn the food out to you fast because it's all already cooked, unless they're slammed. This place has a drive thru, so I expected quick. It took almost 15 minutes despite having no orders waiting before me. I got called "honey" and other sweet nicknames so many times, it felt abnormal; this isn't Georgia. Then the food came. Then brisket was excellent and generously portioned. I didn't detect much smoke, as it could have been baked in an oven, but still really tasty. That's the end of the good news. The coleslaw looked and tasted like KFC. Clearly not made in house. The okra was also mass produced and it's deep frying explained my delay. The Texas toast was fine. The oldest thing was the sauces. The only good one was the little portion cup that came with my meal. The table ones were awful. The hot was all Louisiana hot sauce, no balance. The sweet was too sweet. The vinegar was too much vinegar. And I didn't try the mustard, but I'm guessing too much mustard. Do they not care about subtlety? Must every sauce scream what they are and not fit any entrée? If you care about meat, it's worth a stop, but forget about anything else. read more

Eh. I'd like to give 3 1/2 stars, but that's not allowed, so I'm giving this place the benefit of the doubt and 4 - maybe they just had an off day when I was there. One thing I had was thoroughly excellent, one was so bad I only took a couple of bites then tossed it, and the other thing I got was just OK. The best thing I ate was the brisket sandwich. Wow. So tender, delicious smoky flavor, nice and moist, didn't need any sauce at all. The menu said it came with coleslaw on top, and since my order was to go, it came on the side, but it was actually pretty tasty by itself. It came on a "deli roll", which was not much larger than a hotdog bun, but there was plenty of meat. Thing I could not take more than a few bites of where their Cajun fries. My fries were limp, to the point of being wiggly, they seemed to be just barely cooked, and even worse, they were not hot. The seasoning was OK, but I felt like it was sprinkled on as an afterthought rather than the fries having been tossed in it. The OK thing was my half rack of ribs. Looked beautiful, and while I do love a smoky crust of smoke ring on my ribs, this was the crust was hard and just too dried out. Tasted great, though. And I will say that when I heated them up the next day, the crust had softened a bit, but there were still bits that were tough. So my suggestion is, get the brisket, ribs if you need to, but stay away from those fries! I do love their slogan of "cooking butts and taking names", so maybe they are worthy of me trying one more time just for that! read more

Now, onto the WORST BBQ food I've ever had in my life. Both my wife and I got the brisket sandwich. $6.99 for about $3 of food. Also fine. It is a business. But it was hands down the worst. Thinly shaved dry brisket on a really cheap bun. We also got the "Cajun fries". Do you wanna know what frozen fries taste like after spilling half of your spice rack on them? Get the Cajun fries. My daughter got the chicken fingers. Gross. If you loved McDonald's chicken nuggets circa 1980 before the food and drug administration got involved; you'll love these. Gross. Rolling through town, coming back from Johnson shut-ins, and a lady told us there was great Bar-B-Que in town. Kinda guessed it was this one... took a shot in the dark honestly. But uhm... we hit the target! I got a pulled pork and Mac n cheese. It was great! I could have done without the oregano on top of the Mac, but it's only because I hate oregano. Price is very high ribs were greasy and tasted baked with liquid smoke put in them. I couldn't eat them. Neither could my daughter hers looked more burnt than anything. They should have been at minimum serving temp of 165 there's no way. Nothing came out hot. Don't know how they are getting by with that from the health department. Nachos cold and very small portion size cheese not melted. Very disappointed don't know what happened to this place used to be good. Spent 56.00 on lunch and left hungry. Will not be back. Nutshell: Down home BBQ joint, great staff, scrumptious food, with a great price tag. Me and the girls were headed south on a hockey road trip and they got a little peckish. Tried to go to a restaurant next door, but they had just closed up shop about 3 minutes prior. So to Dexter's we went. Best Life Choice Ever! I mean EVER... The folks at the counter were super friendly and helpful with their recommendations. After much deliberation, I settled on the Turkey Melt. My mouth waters just remembering it. The turkey was moist and full of flavor, the pepper jack cheese added a hint of creamy with a kick, and there was a some kind of sauce that can only be described as heavenly smattered on the texas toast. I decided to go healthy...ish and ordered green beans as a side. Talk about a taste of home, very good green beans. They have platters, but most everything else is a la carte. The total ran about $11 with a water. Now the coup de gras: FREE ICE CREAM! I may have gone back for seconds...that may have happened. All in all, you're not going to go hungry from this place. The man who placed my food down snatched my number out of my hands so fast and aggressively it had me and the people I was with dumbfounded for a couple seconds. We also saw him being very rude/stern to an elderly couple who had the right number, but didn't have the right food..like it was their fault!!
