I purchased one of each. They also had beautiful mums in a variety of sizes for various prices, including 3 for $20 for small, $20 medium, and $30 large. They also sell different sizes of pumpkins. This is why I have them 2 stars because at least this part of the visit went well. Negative: They had a small variety of warm (literally hot to the touch with steam coming from the bag) Dutch apple pies. They put them in a plastic bag (like their other goodies), so customers would assume they are homemade. Turns out, after paying more attention when I got home, the cut out cardboard paper that they had attached on top of the pie is the same pie as a frozen pie! Ugh! I included a photo of the pie I purchased and the frozen pie. Exact same pie! Please don't think that you are getting a fresh apple pie, like I did, nor think you are doing good supporting a small local business. Shame on them for false advertising! Save your $20 bucks and purchase your pie from a real legitimate bakery or another cider mill who bakes them fresh. There are plenty more cider mills available nearby that I would rather support, so unfortunately, I won't be returning here.

A lot of places are still charging the same price for a 4 cell so keep that in mind. The plants looked really healthy this year so far. I love their Salad Bowls. I always pick up 2 or 3. It's great having access to fresh lettuce everyday. I also came looking for a couple Lemon Cypress trees. Sadly they don't carry them so that was a bit of a disappointment. We did leave with some herbs and vegetable plants though. TIP: Get here early in the season... The plants that they have in the first week or two of opening are a great deal for their size, a large 4" tomato plant will cost you less than $3.

A friend of a friend also told me some of their meat and fish items are fresh not frozen (at least salmon and pork ribs specifically? someone needs to fact check me on this though). The selection is smaller (so not the kind of grocery store where you have the option of 20 brands of the same item), but the sourcing feels intentional, with options with nicer ingredients, etc. Probably not going to find more specialty grocery items here. Yes this location does the quarter to get a shopping cart thing. I was prepared and it was straightforward to use. Recommend bringing your own bags - otherwise their paper bags are 12 cents each. When I went, it was self serve check out only, which was fine. I guess if you are that rushed yourself, it b=might be a benefit, but I would never choose to shop this way. I also found the assortment of goods to be annoying lydeceiving, using boxes made to exactly mimic the brand item it replaced. Many stores have house brands, from Kroger to Whole Foods to Trader Joes, my regular stores at home. But they are clearly intended to show what they are replacing in branded items without appearing to trick the eye. That's fair. This did not seem fair. I did not mind the stacked boxes as shelves though I could see how that would be difficult for someone to maneuver safely, if they have a disability. I thought the European imports of sweet to be an option if they are legitimate products and not fakes. My host said they were as they have bought the sweets at the Christmas season and having lived in Europe themselves, were sure they were authentic and not counterfeit. So, bottom line, I will not want to go there again. I normally enjoy food shopping, whether at home or on a trip, and enjoy having a friendly exchange with the staff who serve me. I am certainly not denying the great selection of apple products- donuts, caramel dipped apples, cider, hard cider, and more. I am hoping it's a bad coincidence that in the last 3 years I have received rude customer service and want to give the benefit of the doubt to a family owned business. It always seems to be very busy whenever I go and I want to attribute the staff to being stressed or hot, however I do expect common courtesy wherever I go, even if it is busy. Yes, it is not cheap. I am about the cheapest person I know and even I will pay for this because the quality is that good. I also spent some time at the warehouse this summer and I saw first-hand the hard work that goes into the process of preserving this food. I will also say that I just paid $8 for a quart of blueberries. If the average price here is $7 per bag, I'm getting almost a full quart (I think it was 12 oz) of blueberries for that price. So I'm really only paying a little bit more and I don't have to actually freeze them. Everything's relative, so unlike a previous reviewer who is always surprised at how little food she gets every month, I'm always surprised at how MUCH I get. Whatever freezing process they use, it works. Asparagus was nice and crisp, and the fruits retain so much more flavor than the frozen fruit you pick up in the grocery store. These foods are not fresh--they ARE frozen--so you can't expect them to be the same as fresh when they are thawed, but this produce comes as close as I think is possible. And it's so nice to be able to taste these delicious flavors in the dead of winter.

If I'm feeling like a snack Pilar's Tamales or Good Times Kettle Corn really hit the spot. The Brinary, Seedling (who I used to buy from when I lived in Chicago in their markets), and the Zingerman's creamery are all favorites. Not to mention all the beautiful fresh fruits and veggies. YES. Also--the parking lot rules. If it's too hot to bike or walk it's really nice to roll up and easily find a parking spot without having to pay a meter. It shouldn't matter but it totally does. What a find! This market is the perfect compliment to the Ann Arbor Farmers' Market on Wednesday and Saturday mornings. Instead, it's in the late afternoon / early evening, which is a nice change, and has an easy location good for parking and on the west side of town. The market hosts about 20 local Michigan vendors, and Zingerman's is usually always outside sampling some kind of yummy goodness. There's a nice selection of fruits, veggies and flowers. I usually hit up this market every Thursday on my way home from work and almost never leave empty-handed. Rain or shine, the market is there.
