    Chicken 65

Had been wanting to try this place out for awhile, but hadn't found my way to Maida Vale for a couple of months. When we were craving Indian chaat at home, I was really excited to see that they would deliver. Dhaba @ 49 is the REAL DEAL! Authentic North Indian food. Not Bangladeshi Indian, not British Indian, not Pakistani (my closest substitute), but honest to goodness North Indian food. I'd easily return to this restaurant, even if it was one of the many serving this cuisine in Delhi. The chaat was the best we have had in central London. Ragda tikki/patties, papdi chaat and pani puri / gol gappe. All were bang on the flavour. They packed the components individually, so they could be assembled at home. The patties lost a bit of the crispness due to being steamed in the shut box, but I'm sure it would be perfect when eating in. The paneer could have been a tad softer, but sometimes a tandoor can tend to dry it out a bit, so I'll reserve judgement on the texture. The flavour however was very good. Properly marinated paneer tikka. I wasn't sure what to expect with the dhabha roti, and was pleasantly surprised with the light, crisp flavoured roti. Somewhere between a stuffed paratha and a papad. Very yum. The biryani was light and flavourful. Typical delhi style, closer to the Calcutta style (minus the potatoes) More pulao-ish than a heavily flavoured hyderabadi style (my personal favourite). This paired very well with a bit of the sauce from the tiffin chicken (which was so tender and soft) The chicken 65 was the only item that didn't measure up to my expectation. But very few do. Chicken 65 is best had at a Hyderabadi place with a lot more spices and chillies thrown in. The dish was good as a stand alone starter, but can't fulfil my craving for chicken 65. Everything was beautifully flavoured, low on oil - so not your typical takeaway - more home style, well packed, not too spicy. I'd say medium spice. The cold kheer was a lovely finish to the meal. I've seen pictures of their interiors and their cocktails look amazing. I'm glad to have a proper Indian restaurant near by. It's a place I would be confident to take friends looking for indian Updated 5 Dec 2018 We've now visited the dhaba twice. The first time was for their Diwali special fixed menu which was fantastic. 4 of us, but they allowed us to order for 3 as the 4th person was on a very restricted diet that they happily catered for. Enjoyed the food so much, that when I had to plan a dinner for 8 fussy Indians today who were traveling from across the London and the US: we needed good food, alcohol, space to be able to sit comfortably, talk in slightly louder voices and not be rushed out before the next sitting. I didn't think twice and just booked the Dhaba @ 49. Everyone loved the food. Vegetarians, chickentarians, meat eaters alike. Except for their paneer being a bit on the drier side, I have to say that every dish was as good as you would get in a food restaurant in Delhi and that is high praise indeed for a London restaurant. Service is still a bit on the slower side, but they more than make up for it in helpfulness.

Garlic naan and a chicken dish I forgot the name of but it was great :)

As someone really new to Indian food, this was a fantastic introduction. Everything we ordered was really good. The location is a bit off the beaten path from the underground but it's worth the trip. Make sure to try the naan it was delicious!

Chutney etc, Gilafi Lamb Seekh and Ragra Tikki

Delicious! From beginning to end. Comfortable atmosphere. Friendly, helpful service. We had previously eaten at Dishoom and found it tasty but agreed that we enjoyed our overall experience at Dhaba@49 more. We started with Ragra Tikki and Gilafi Lamb Seekh. Followed by Butter Chicken, Pilau Rice, and Butter Naan. We found the prices to be reasonable. We definitely recommend to others and would certainly return again ourselves.

Butter chicken. Sorry I don't have a better photo. Lol. Trust me, it's delicious.

As an American who really enjoys Indian food and has been spoiled from living in the San Francisco Bay Area, this place lived up to my standards and more. The service was more than excellent - when it turned out that the garlic naan was baked more than it should have been, I was brought a new piece of naan right away. I ordered: * Dall * Rogan josh * Poppadam * Garlic naan All of the items were mouth watering. As the night was cold, this meal warmed me up and I couldn't help but feel unwilling to leave after I ate my dinner - I'd rather just bask in the feeling of a full belly and a cozy restaurant. I also noticed the owner (?) greeting guests as they came in the door, treating everyone with respect, chatting with everyone from the workmen in orange vests to the established-looking couple in suits. In summary - great food plus gracious staff equals a highly recommended Indian restaurant.

The chicken tikka masala and butter chicken were waaay too sweet. The silver lining was that my 8yo son who typically does not like Indian food loved it, since it was way sweeter than he's used to. Service was quite slow so even though there were only two other tables filled when we went in. Ambiance was great and restaurant smelled great when you walk in.

This is the only restaurant we ate at twice during our week in London, that's how much we loved it!…read moreIt was our first meal after arrival and our last meal on our final night. The Warwick Arms has a quirky decor and charming ambiance. It's a typical British pub, and although it has a section of the menu devoted to British pub classics, the majority of the menu is dedicated to Indian cuisine. I'm not sure if there are other pubs in London serving Indian food, but it is the perfect combination! We sampled many dishes during our 2 visits here, including chicken tikka masala, chicken korma, saag paneer, vegetable biryani, basmati rice, and garlic and cilantro naan. Everything was absolute perfection. There wasn't a single bite of food that we didn't love. The Pimm's and Lemonade was a delightful and refreshing discovery for us. We enjoyed glasses of it our first night, and then on our final night when we returned with a larger group we split a pitcher. Our server was polite and friendly on both occasions. I was honestly unsure before visiting the Warwick Arms because although the reviews online are fantastic their website is minimal and doesn't even publish their menu, but I am so glad we stopped by. I would 100% recommend the Warwick Arms to anyone visiting London, especially if you are staying in the Kensington area.
