If you are looking for a secluded and unique location for a wedding, definitely consider Diablo Dormido. This is my third time at this location and it continues to impress. The fact that once you enter the driveway it takes about a mile+ to get there and it really does make you anxious to see the location. The views are truly stunning but once you get to the actually venue is when you see why it's worth it. That private feel with no one besides your guests and vendors/workers and the ability to enjoy your wedding late night with loud music without neighbors getting annoyed. It's in a beautiful location in the hills that is close to the freeway, but makes you feel a little more disconnected. We also appreciated Yosef and Rebecca's honesty and directness - they didn't waste our time with the sale pitches that you can come across all too often in the wedding industry. As mentioned in all previous posts, Yosef and Rebecca stayed true to their word. They were extremely responsive, professional, and helpful throughout the entire process. They answered my numerous questions and addressed all of my family's concerns (and there were lots!). They were receptive to our ideas, recommended quality vendors, and were flexible with last minute changes. Working with them was a worthwhile investment in making sure we could pull off a bit of a logistically complicated wedding. =) They really made our wedding dreams come true! We incorporated lots of details, decorations, Polish customs, many vendors and, on top of it all, my family was very involved. Our experience working with Yosef and Rebecca of Diablo Dormido was excellent! Yosef was extremely responsive to our initial e-mail and gave us an informative tour of the beautiful venue, Upper Las Virgenes Canyon Open Space Preserve, just a day after we made contact with him! The space is truly stunning - nestled in oak-studded rolling hills off the 101 freeway. The second we step foot on the property, we knew that it was where we wanted to get married. Yosef and Rebecca were very flexible and helpful in addressing my family's many needs for the ceremony and reception. They never missed an e-mail and were ready to assist with decor, day-of details such as heat lamps and umbrellas, and made sure that everyone was taken care of with comfort, air-conditioning, food, etc. It felt like we were getting married at a family friend's house with how sweet and helpful they were. Was a bridesmaid in my friends wedding at this location. As far as I know she was very satisfied with everything. Although her wedding was small the property was large enough for a huge wedding as well. Lots of grass. Beautiful canyon views. Little house with an area for the bridal party to get ready. Only concerns I noticed was that the location is about a 5 minute drive up a windy road. Luckily for me the amazing bride and groom got a shuttle for everyone. Highly suggest others do that as well, especially after open bar. Also, the heat can get pretty high around the end of Summer. This wedding took place on a hot day but as the sun started to set it was actually the perfect temperature allowing everyone to dance the night away. read more

Although we were on edge and still deeply stressed from having to move venues six months before our wedding date, Yosef and Rebecca convinced us on our first visit that they would be able to not only replace the experience of our original venue but would give us something better. Our afternoon wedding provided stunning views of the sunset, and nighttime brought us a star filled sky and special appearance by a U.S. Navy missile launch. Nestled in the middle of the Santa Monica Mountains is a ranch with breathtaking views and an intriguingly captivating name. For its name sake, the property stares into a canyon that resembles the the facial profile of a sleeping devil. Rancho del Diablo Dormido is where Sally and I just had our wedding this past weekend and we couldn't imagine having our wedding anywhere else. I must admit, as beautiful as the place was, I was not initially sold on the idea of having an outdoor wedding as my lack of imagination(according to my wife) was swaying me more towards the banquet halls and country clubs as the primary candidates for our wedding venue. Sally was not having it. To her credit, she stuck to her guns and insisted that we must have our wedding here. And to Yosef and Rebecca's credit, they made it affordable for us to have the wedding of our dream. Yosef was very creative in packaging some essential elements that we were going to need (Catering, Alcohol, etc). Rebecca was very helpful with planning out the details and executing them on the "Day Of". Both of them were just really a pleasure to work with. "How did you find this place?!? It's beautiful!" was a popular first comment from a lot of our guests. That really reaffirmed our (ok, ok, Sally's) choice in picking Rancho. In additional to the compliments on the venue, our guests really liked our food and drinks which was also the arranged by Yosef and Rebecca. The staff was cordial and accommodating from top to bottom. One minor blemish, I got wind after that the heaters at one of the tables didn't work for awhile. But I also heard that the staff try to solve the problem immediately. So the problem was not enough for me to take off a star. They were both easy to talk to and meet with and Rebecca helped me with a lot of the planning. When I had a problem with one of my vendors Rebecca was there as my rock and to ease all my worries. They had a great list of recommended people and we definitely used some of them. The day of went by seamlessly and it makes me sad I won't be seeing them. I came here for a wedding yesterday, and I would have to say it was probably the most beautiful one I've attended. The view was spectacular, and the size of the place is just right. Big enough that you can move around without being cramped, but small enough that it still seems very intimate and special. I think the wedding had around 120 people. Only positive, wonderful things can be said about every single aspect of Diablo Dormido. I'm writing this from my honeymoon in Bali because I couldn't wait till I got home to show Diablo some love. Yosef and Rebecca were a phenomenal resource throughout the entire planning process. They found us vendors when we needed help, showed great support to the ones we found on our own, and on the day made sure we wanted for nothing and were able to just enjoy ourselves. Half my wedding came up to me after the fact and told me it was the best wedding they'd ever been to. I say the following without exaggeration, really - I have friends from out of state who are moving to California because they were so blown away by the view from Diablo and the kindness of the staff. In late summer 2009 my fiancee and I began searching for a venue to hold our wedding. We wanted something a little more unique (re: not the typical hall or ballroom), outdoors, closer to the coast, and we wanted the option to bring in our own caterer. My future sister in law was tasked with finding venues that met our criteria and one of them was found Rancho Del Diablo Dormido. After visiting the place and meeting with Yosef in August 2009, we booked it for our wedding in October 2010. I remember that initial meeting and one of the questions Yosef asked us was "What do you want your wedding to be"? My fiancee answered "Fun," and that was the phrase we could all hang our hats onto. Over the next year we went about planning and Yosef was very helpful and accommodating. The month leading up to the wedding we visited the site several more times to finalize details and setup and Yosef was extremely helpful and was able to pass along suggestions from previous weddings they held. Late October (the 23rd) we held our wedding at Rancho Del Diablo Dormido with 150 guests. We were dodging rain the days leading up to the wedding and the forecast was for cooler temperatures. The day before we went to the site to drop off some supplies for the wedding when Yosef let us know he had made arrangements for additional heaters (on top of those we had already made arrangements for ), only we paid for them if they were used. Well, they were needed and thankfully we had them on hand as it was a cool night. I mention this because it goes to Yosef's attention to detail and service, plus it didn't cost us anything up front, only if we knew they would be needed and used them. The wedding was a year in the making and my bride and I both agree it was fantastic. The setting is gorgeous, Yosef and his staff were on top of everything. The level of service and attention to detail was amazing. They coordinated perfectly with our caterer and we could not find one item that was overlooked. We received many compliments on the setting, and the overall event. It was more than we expected and we would recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a special location to start their journey together. Where to start!? Our wedding was perfect. I found Diablo Dormido by pure luck while researching wedding venues in Southern California. The whole process was as smooth as possible while planning a wedding from another city. Yosef and Rebecca were super responsive and helpful. I had so many questions, and they always had answers! I went with most of their recommended vendors, and it worked out perfectly. My husband and I were blown away at how everything came together. We had a blast seeing all of our friends and family, and because I had such an amazing team, I was not stressed out planning the wedding or even on the day of the wedding! This place is enchanting. I literally just had my wedding 10 days ago at Rancho Del Diablo Dormido on 9-10-11 and it more beautiful than I could have ever imagined. I found this place randomly as I was doing online searches for wedding venues and it was the first and only place we saw. After visiting, we sent in our deposit the very next day to secure our date. My biggest worry was that the day wouldn't go smoothly, however with the help of my vendors (some that were referrals from Yosef and Rebecca), my day-of-coordinator (Dana Barrett Gabriel), and the owners themselves, I pretty much sat around until I had to walk down the aisle. And the site itself is breathtaking, with all of their greenery and panoramic canyon/mountain views. I also love that the setting was intimate and rustic, just like us. Every single one of my guests complemented our choice of venue and many of my single guests commented on wanting to get married at Rancho Del Diablo Dormido. Our wedding planning experience was to be quite honest, pretty low stress and I think alot of that had to do with the fact that we really surrounded ourselves with just kind and supportive people who seemed genuinely happy and excited for us. I cannot express enough how magical this place is! Wow. What can I even say about Diablo Dormido and Yosef and Rebecca. We just had our wedding their, and they helped make our it spectacular from start to finish. The location is amazing, but what really sets Diablo Dormido apart is the people. Yosef and Rebecca have that amazing quality of being calm, but underneath being fully prepared. Their calmness spread to us and our wedding party and guests and made for a no-drama, memorable and wonderful experience. If you are considering an outdoor wedding in the LA area, look no further than the Upper Las Virgenes Canyon Open Space Preserve. We had our wedding there on August 4 and it was a dream come true. We inquired with several venues in the LA and Calabasas areas but only ended up touring one--as soon as we saw the venue, we booked on the spot and cancelled our other site visits. It is very much a blank canvas, so you can make it whatever you want, but it lends itself well to a dreamy, flower-filled, twinkle-light strung, easy romantic evening wedding. Yosef and Rebecca who own the event company Diablo Dormido are invaluable resources--so kind, reassuring, and helpful through the process. They made it so easy to plan the wedding, and they led us to several of our best vendors. I can't say enough good things about the space and about Yosef and Rebecca. Of course, this is the biggest decision a couple makes prior to getting married, and everyone wants to get it right. We got it right when we had our wedding at Rancho del Diablo Dormido. It is a stunning place to have a wedding, and our guests all had a great time. I mean, where else can you have a wedding in So Cal where two beautiful horses greet you at the gate of the property, followed by a steep incline with a beautiful picket fence, followed by a wood and stone house on a hill with spectacular 360 degree mountain and canyon views? It is definitely not your traditional wedding venue, i.e., a ballroom with a dance floor surrounded by tables, it is much more, as it affords your guests the ability to mingle and get to know each other. That was priceless, as well as having a ceremony in an utterly beautiful setting. Yosef and his wife Rebecca are as nice as possibly can be, and they truly strive to make your event special. Here are some things you should know if you are going to book there. You must be prepared to watch the weather channel, as your meal will be served outdoors. For this reason, we opted to have our wedding ceremony much earlier than sunset, preceded by a long cocktail hour, and we were so happy with that decision; our guests got to soak up the property to its fullest, and after the ceremony, the early evening meal weather was warm, and everyone could see each other, including the people giving the speeches. In other words, with a cocktail hour, an earlier wedding ceremony and dinner thereafter, you take full advantage of the warmth of the sun, and only the party portion is at night. We rented firepits with logs for nighttime that Yosef kindly refilled; bring a lot of logs if you take that option. Also, although Yosef has a list of great preferred vendors, we opted to use our own, and Yosef was happy to accommodate; that too is rare and we were truly grateful. Yosef provides the venue, parking valets, bathrooms, rental tables and staff, but doing an offsite wedding with food, food staff, food associated rentals (lots of rentals), bartenders, alcohol, flowers, and DJ or band for 150 people including kids takes lots of planning. It worked out amazingly for us, and we highly, highly recommend the Rancho, as it is an amazing venue, and many of our guests stayed at the Four Season Westlake with preferred rates, that too was a plus. Also, another tip, give your guests REALLY good directions with distances; the wedding signs are very helpful but only appear at the end of the trip, on the last road to Yosef's place. We have only positives to say about our wedding choice; while it may not be a place for everyone, it was the place for us: comfortable, spectacular, with a great vibe. Rancho del Diablo was the perfect place for our wedding. We knew it the first time we arrived to look and we still felt it when we left on our wedding night. And apparently, so did many of our guests. In fact, we lost track of the number of times friends and family came up to us and told us this was the most beautiful wedding they had ever been to. The surrounding canyon was gorgeous. The house and grounds were beautiful. The owners Yosef and Rebecca live there when the property is not being used for events, and clearly we could feel the love and time they have put into the place and the sense of how much they enjoyed sharing it with us. We never lost that intimate sense of sharing a home, so unlike the sterile feel of so many wedding banquet halls. At the same time, they allowed us to decorate as we saw fit and produce exactly the ceremony and reception that we wanted. They were very helpful in supplying names of vendors when we needed them but also very accommodating allowing us to bring in our own when it suited us. On the day of the wedding, their mindfulness of the many extra details that inevitably arise was a constant source of support, but even more importantly, throughout the whole process, they showed a great balance of professional and personal touch. read more

My husband and I got married at Rancho del Diablo Dormido on 9/15/12 and I am still processing how beautiful everything was. We sat at the sweetheart table around sunset, eating a delicious dinner and looking at all of our guests, with the stunning vistas and little twinkly lights all around us, and we said, this is more beautiful than we had imagined it could be. From the moment over a year ago when we visited, met Yosef for the first time, to the day of our wedding, he and Rebecca, plus the wonderful vendors that they recommended: Dana Barrett Gabriel our coordinator, Dan Molnar our caterer, Ken Craft our officiant, Karl Grossman who played the Spanish Guitar, Kelly Bockoven our florist, and several more-- all went above and beyond to get us to that dream. Every one of our guests had driven from far away or traveled from far away, and we wanted to give them that rustic, lovely, bohemian, outdoor "california dream" and we got it! Our guests "got" our vision and I think every last one of them wanted to move there afterwards! We got raves about how stunning the Rosen's home was and how beautiful the views were.
