I am beyond furious with the Regency Grand at West Covina…read more My mother-in-law lived there for 15 years. Fifteen years. She and my father-in-law spent six of those years together in the same assisted living apartment. The staff and management knew them well. We believed she was part of a community. We trusted that she was cared for. After my father-in-law passed in 2017, everything changed. With new ownership and management came a noticeable decline -- fewer gatherings, fewer thoughtful touches, and a clear shift away from the residents who had built that community. The warmth disappeared. The effort disappeared. The food declined significantly. We dined with her often and eventually began taking her out because meals there were so poor. Over the past year, she lost 35-40 pounds. She was not able to tell us about the food because she had a stroke many years before and could not speak. We later learned she wasn't eating -- and no one alerted us. No one noticed. Or if they did, they failed to act. That is inexcusable. After 15 years in the same apartment, her unit was never properly updated. The carpet was filthy. The bathroom cabinetry was falling apart. The space looked worn down and neglected. For two years, we were repeatedly told renovations were coming. They never happened. Then, after Christmas, she became ill and passed away 20 days later. She spent her final three days on hospice in the very place she had called home for a decade and a half. In those last days, only three staff or management members came to see her. Three. After 15 years. We did hear one staff member comment that she was sad she would no longer get clothes from my MIL (who was always very generous). After her passing, there was no card from the Regency management. No condolences. No acknowledgment to my husband, who had just lost his mother. They once posted notices honoring residents who passed. This time -- nothing. We did everything we could to give her a life filled with dignity and love. We trusted Regency to do the same within their walls. They did not. This is more than disappointment. It is heartbreak -- and a profound sense of betrayal.

The staff, the nurse, and the sales director are all easy to contact and are very helpful. I am quite confident that my Mom is getting great care and is safe. She enjoys the daily activities and participates in them. They are a necessary diversion for her. The staff at The Terraces has made this a seamless transition for my Mom as she acclimates to her new surroundings. Thank you.

Ok, I've waited a few days to post this review, but after reading the 3 reviews before this, they…read moreare suspect at best. All made around the same time, and very little real info. We moved my mom into the Terraces, almost a year ago. When we first moved her in there, it seemed really nice, loving and dignified. The management and caregivers, really cared, and showed my Mother, so much love, and care. The place was clean, upbeat, and fun for the residence in their care. It stayed that way for about 8 months, and then suddenly, the executive director was fired, and shortly after that, the nurse on staff. I don't know why and can't speak to that, but both of them were very loving, and really cared about the residents. About 2 months later, Agemark brought in a new executive director, and that director brought in their own staff nurse. Suddenly, caregivers and staff members, were getting let go, or quitting in droves. All these fun, loving, and really caring people, were being replaced by people, that were just there to earn a paycheck. All the care, and love, that the residents were used to, was replaced with glorified baby sitters. I literally took a picture of 2 caregivers, sitting at a table, staring at their phones, while the residents were left on their own. Another time, a resident, who was in a wheel chair, had got up, and walked into the activity room, and fell and fractured her arm. All 3 caregivers on the floor, were in the elevator room, laughing about something. I literally had to scream for them, to come and help her. Some of the residents are left dirty and sitting in their own filth. There is also one resident that is hyper-aggressive and had literally attacked a few of the residents, and even 2 of the residents family members. This of course was reported to the executive director, who just said he has dementia, and there was nothing that could be done. He, should not be in this facility, and should be somewhere that he and others can be safe. The place has become very dirty and the cleaning has not been kept up. There are missing moldings, the curtains around the windows in the hallway were all taken down, and not replaced. The carpets all have spots, and the floor in the dining area, is sticky to walk on. I decided to call Agemark corporate, and let them know about the issues. They had no knowledge of any problems in the facility. Apparently, they were never reported. I also talked to the state, and found out that there are 2 open cases being investigated. We pay to have our relatives, cared for, with dignity and love, and under this new administration that has been replaced, and now it's all about the money. Luckily for us, we found a great new place, and moved my mom out of the Terraces. If you want your relative to be taken care of with care and dignity, then perhaps you will want to look elsewhere. I'm not saying that everything at the Terraces was horrible. There are some highlights: O.V. the chef, is amazing. He cooks with love, and makes sure that the residents, eat well. Some of the caregivers are there for the right reasons, and do care for the residents, and show them love. They are just overwhelmed, most of the time, and are treated badly, by the new management. This is a memory care facility, and most of the residents, need to be cared for with extra patience and love. They don't understand why they are there, and when I see caregivers getting annoyed or mad at residents, it just makes me sad for them and their families.

Visiting Angels referred me to House of Grace 2 House of Grace 2 West Covina was perfect! It's located on a quiet, safe street. The house is beautiful inside and out and is very clean and safe for elder care. The managers, Michelle and Rebecca are very polite and knowledgeable about dementia and elder care. They explained patient happiness, safety and care is their number one priority! They are limited to only 6 patients in the house, which I liked a lot better than the bigger care facilities. BTW, they both work at the facility and gave me their cellphone numbers to call any time, if there were any problems! They gave me a complete tour of House of Grace 2 West Covina, which including meeting the staff and talking to other residents and their families. Everyone there was very happy, which wasn't like the other residential care facilities I visited. There was no pressure, and they truly wanted what was best for my mom. Their visiting hours are generous, and they will accommodate special request. (yay!) I did have one concern! There was an internet post about a lawsuit against House of Grace 2 West Covina. I did some research and found out it was bogus allegations made by a questionable law firm, who makes their living accusing and suing elder care facilities. Just to make sure, I contacted Department of Social Services CDSS, who licenses, inspects and regulates residential care facilities, and asked about any complaints or violations House of Grace 2 West Covina had. I was happy to learn, there were never any!...Zero! None!! Another reason why everyone hates ambulance chasing attorneys!!(LOL) The false internet accusations almost made me leave, I'm so glad I didn't!! House of Grace 2 has another location in Claremont, House of Grace 1. It was also professionally staffed and run by the same two ladies. I visited it, and it was great! But House of Grace 2 West Covina was closer, and more convenient for me to visit my mom. The price was negotiable, and about $ 600.00 per month less then the bigger facilities. So, if you're looking for a great care facility for your loved one. A beautiful small place where they really care about your loved one, House of Grace 2 West Covina is the best!
