My mother, who has dementia and is quite difficult, lives at The Terraces now. Her room is clean and has a lot of natural light. The staff, the nurse, and the sales director are all easy to contact and are very helpful. I am quite confident that my Mom is getting great care and is safe. She enjoys the daily activities and participates in them. They are a necessary diversion for her. The staff at The Terraces has made this a seamless transition for my Mom as she acclimates to her new surroundings. Thank you. read more

Ok, I've waited a few days to post this review, but after reading the 3 reviews before this, they are suspect at best. All made around the same time, and very little real info. We moved my mom into the Terraces, almost a year ago. When we first moved her in there, it seemed really nice, loving and dignified. The management and caregivers, really cared, and showed my Mother, so much love, and care. The place was clean, upbeat, and fun for the residence in their care. It stayed that way for about 8 months, and then suddenly, the executive director was fired, and shortly after that, the nurse on staff. I don't know why and can't speak to that, but both of them were very loving, and really cared about the residents. About 2 months later, Agemark brought in a new executive director, and that director brought in their own staff nurse. Suddenly, caregivers and staff members, were getting let go, or quitting in droves. All these fun, loving, and really caring people, were being replaced by people, that were just there to earn a paycheck. All the care, and love, that the residents were used to, was replaced with glorified baby sitters. I literally took a picture of 2 caregivers, sitting at a table, staring at their phones, while the residents were left on their own. Another time, a resident, who was in a wheel chair, had got up, and walked into the activity room, and fell and fractured her arm. All 3 caregivers on the floor, were in the elevator room, laughing about something. I literally had to scream for them, to come and help her. Some of the residents are left dirty and sitting in their own filth. There is also one resident that is hyper-aggressive and had literally attacked a few of the residents, and even 2 of the residents family members. This of course was reported to the executive director, who just said he has dementia, and there was nothing that could be done. He, should not be in this facility, and should be somewhere that he and others can be safe. The place has become very dirty and the cleaning has not been kept up. There are missing moldings, the curtains around the windows in the hallway were all taken down, and not replaced. The carpets all have spots, and the floor in the dining area, is sticky to walk on. I decided to call Agemark corporate, and let them know about the issues. They had no knowledge of any problems in the facility. Apparently, they were never reported. I also talked to the state, and found out that there are 2 open cases being investigated. We pay to have our relatives, cared for, with dignity and love, and under this new administration that has been replaced, and now it's all about the money. Luckily for us, we found a great new place, and moved my mom out of the Terraces. If you want your relative to be taken care of with care and dignity, then perhaps you will want to look elsewhere. I'm not saying that everything at the Terraces was horrible. There are some highlights: O.V. the chef, is amazing. He cooks with love, and makes sure that the residents, eat well. Some of the caregivers are there for the right reasons, and do care for the residents, and show them love. They are just overwhelmed, most of the time, and are treated badly, by the new management. This is a memory care facility, and most of the residents, need to be cared for with extra patience and love. They don't understand why they are there, and when I see caregivers getting annoyed or mad at residents, it just makes me sad for them and their families. read more

In my opinion, while superficially attractive, The Terraces suffers from poor management and chronic understaffing. Consequently, in my opinion, it fails to provide residents, including my loved one, proper care and safety. After 8.5 months of unsuccessfully advocating for safety and proper care, we moved my loved one to a different community. read more

The Terraces is a memory-care facility that operates on a "hotel" model of service. Meaning if your loved one doesn't need much care and can identify and communicate needs (e.g., needing bed changed, more toilet paper, wanting a snack), and is looking for a nice, shiny relatively new place to live, the Terraces may be an option for them. But if your loved one is still relatively independent but needs hands-on care for some things, I'd say look elsewhere. My dad lived at the Terraces for 8 months. Before we moved him in, we were very clear with the sales guy and the executive director that Dad wets the bed most nights and would need his bed checked and likely changed each morning because he would never communicate that himself. We were assured that wouldn't be a problem, yet, for most of his time there, when I or my brother would come visit, Dad's bed would be wet or there would be wet or even dried puddles of urine on the floor (hello, fall hazard!), and the room would smell of urine. We'd have to ask the front desk if someone could come clean it up. A couple of months into Dad's stay, we were finally able to get them to commit to daily checks of his bed and floor and cleaning those if necessary. A couple of months later, I happened to see the cleaning checklist on the back of his door and it showed that the daily checks had lasted all of about a week. Dad's doctor had also asked that Dad continue the daily walks he'd been doing for years. We communicated this too before Dad moved in. It took us asking the Terraces multiple times to finally get them to take him out for walks, and even then it was on an inconsistent basis. We ended up moving Dad because it was clear we would never get the level of care we were told to expect, and we were tired of having to ask for it. Overall: Pros: - The entire facility is memory care; at other facilities memory care is a separate, smaller wing of an assisted-living community. - Has (had) a monthly dementia/Alzheimer's support group. - Newer facility, nice looking - Friendly staff. They seemed to go out of their way to talk to and try to get to know the residents. - Occasionally takes residents on outings - Nice family and holiday events Cons: - Has safety issues. In addition to not cleaning up biological accidents, residents getting out was an issue. One day when I was there I asked a staff member to come clean up a pee puddle by Dad's bed. While there, they asked me if I'd seen staff outside a few minutes prior. She explained that one of the residents had not only gotten out of the facility but had been found in the grocery store across the street. - Is understaffed. - Has high turnover. Last summer I noticed that the sales guy had stopped contacting us to check in on how things were going. I took a look on LinkedIn and discovered that he'd moved to a different company a month prior. While looking at his profile, I saw the executive director's profile had the green "#OpenToWork" banner on it. A couple of weeks later we got at text telling us that "effective immediately" the executive director and the assistant who'd been there the entire time no longer worked for the company. The maintenance guy had left too. - Doesn't offer many activities. Other facilities have a monthly calendar full of regularly scheduled daily activities. The Terraces seemed to have no regularly scheduled activities, just things like puzzles and coloring, with maybe making soap or something thrown in once a week or two. They did take the residents out to lunch or other outings seemingly once or twice a month though. That was nice. - Again, expects residents to know and communicate their needs and preferences. Dad usually had on dirty clothes and on more than a few occasions had dirty Depends or sheets in his closet. Often, he'd have no towel or toilet paper in his bathroom. - The food is lower quality than other facilities. I ate lunch in the dining room with Dad one day and it was salmon with frozen peas, carrots, and corn mix. One of the other residents shouted, "Every day it's the same vegetables!" Haha! read more

The Terraces is an incredible establishment that treats its residents with utmost care. My Great Grandma, Dorothy Bauer, resided here from early August of 2023 to her recent death on February 23 of 2024. During her 8 month stay I visited her near weekly and near the end of her life, many times a week. Even when her health started to spiral due to progressing Dementia and Alzheimers, she was respected and cared for greatly with support from the staff and even residents I think the thing that reassured me the most was the incredible staff. I visited the place often because it was only a 1 mile walk from my house so I got to know and be friends with a great deal of the workers there and was always greeted kindly at the door. Even when some of the residents lost their cool and started lashing out, the staff always kept their composure and expertly de-escalated the situation. They were so kind and caring that I may want to pursue a career in helping the elderly myself Another great thing about The Terraces was the many activities that were presented. I couldn't count how many BINGO nights I oversaw. Although some residents may not always be up for participating in the games, the opportunity was always there and the staff never pressured any of the residents to play if they truly didn't want to. There is also an activity room on both floors which has many board games and other things that the residents and younger visitors can enjoy. The location is also very convenient as there is a fire station directly next to the home, allowing for near instant response time if a resident were ever to fall or get hurt. There is a grocery store right across the street, making it easy for visiting families to grab meals they may want to share with their family member they're visiting. There are a few small issues I may have had here or there but it's nothing that would drive me away from the place at all. Overall, I felt very comfortable with my Great Grandma staying here and was always sure she'd get the care she needed and deserved. It's a place where your family member can make friends, play games, and most importantly receive exquisite care. read more

Our family wants to publicly express our most heartfelt appreciation for all of the staff of The Terraces at Via Verde. Each and every staff member made a significant and positive impact on my mother and our family over the last six months. The personal attention Mom received did not go unnoticed. We witnessed this attention repeatedly. Staff tended to her needs, sang to and with her (even Christmas songs in May on request), crushed medication in her favorite ice cream in order to get her to swallow it, braided her hair, painted her nails, moved and changed her with a smile (despite her adamant resistance) ... the list goes on and on. Mom was not able to enjoy many of the activities at The Terraces because of increasing medical limitations. Yet she was surrounded by ample warmth and kindness. We were afforded that same level of genuine caring and courtesy each and every time we visited her from the staff members we encountered. Mom's recent passing has caused us to carefully reflect on this last chapter of her life. We are grateful that she had the opportunity to reside in such a beautiful place with such caring people. - The Licker Family read more

My grandmother means the world to me. When it was time to enroll her in assisted living, I had to make sure that she got the best quality of care available. The Terraces at Via Verde offers just that, the absolute best! After meeting the staff, I immediately felt as if I had known them for my entire life. Referring my mother to The Terraces was one of the greatest decisions I have ever made. Vicky, Deborah and Ambrosia are some of the most sincere people I have had the pleasure to meet. They were nice enough to give me a tour before I made the decision and I must say, this place is amazing. It was clean from top to bottom, you could tell that there was a lot of attention put into the presentation of he facility. Overall, the whole staff, from the caregivers to kitchen team, presented themselves in a professional manner. Not to mention, their pricing is great for the kind of service that you are receiving. After the tour and meeting the staff, I absolutely knew that I had to make a reservation. I don't typically review places unless they wow me, and let me assure this place is the real deal. read more

Terraces at Via Verde is a new memory care facility that is beyond compare. My husband joined their community in August and has been enriched and the care given to him has been amazing. This is the kindest staff that treats everyone with respect. There are many activities to engage the residents. I especially like the small size of Terraces. There are two floors that each have their own dining room. The administrative staff including the directors Vicki and Deborah, the marketing director Ambrosia, the health care director Antoinette and the activities director are all professional and very positive people. The care givers know the likes and dislikes of the residents and know everyone well. I am so very thankful that we found The Terraces at Via Verde. read more
