I am beyond furious with the Regency Grand at West Covina. My mother-in-law lived there for 15 years. Fifteen years. She and my father-in-law spent six of those years together in the same assisted living apartment. The staff and management knew them well. We believed she was part of a community. We trusted that she was cared for. After my father-in-law passed in 2017, everything changed. With new ownership and management came a noticeable decline -- fewer gatherings, fewer thoughtful touches, and a clear shift away from the residents who had built that community. The warmth disappeared. The effort disappeared. The food declined significantly. We dined with her often and eventually began taking her out because meals there were so poor. Over the past year, she lost 35-40 pounds. She was not able to tell us about the food because she had a stroke many years before and could not speak. We later learned she wasn't eating -- and no one alerted us. No one noticed. Or if they did, they failed to act. That is inexcusable. After 15 years in the same apartment, her unit was never properly updated. The carpet was filthy. The bathroom cabinetry was falling apart. The space looked worn down and neglected. For two years, we were repeatedly told renovations were coming. They never happened. Then, after Christmas, she became ill and passed away 20 days later. She spent her final three days on hospice in the very place she had called home for a decade and a half. In those last days, only three staff or management members came to see her. Three. After 15 years. We did hear one staff member comment that she was sad she would no longer get clothes from my MIL (who was always very generous). After her passing, there was no card from the Regency management. No condolences. No acknowledgment to my husband, who had just lost his mother. They once posted notices honoring residents who passed. This time -- nothing. We did everything we could to give her a life filled with dignity and love. We trusted Regency to do the same within their walls. They did not. This is more than disappointment. It is heartbreak -- and a profound sense of betrayal. read more

This is the fourth memory-care community that we've chosen for my husband, who has dementia. From Montclair, to Covina Hills, very, very briefly in Via Verde, to finally (the right spot) in West Covina at the Regency Grand. We couldn't have chosen a more caring, involved, concerned staff, believe me when I say how important that kind of total coverage-care ranks among those of us that have to place a loved one in an appropriate "home". We did check-out a closer facility, in Glendora. The phony, inappropriate, "marketing"(?) director made me change my mind as to the quality and authenticity of the care AND activities that would involve my husband. When my dad had a stroke, our family realized it was time to move him to an assisted living home that offered dementia care. I search around the West Covina area and found that for our needs as a family and for the care of my father, Regency Grand was an excellent choice. While he was there, he received such amazing care from the staff. They were patient and kind with him, never rushing when he needed help with his personal grooming while allowing him to maintain independence with his activities of daily living as much as possible. As his health declined, I was with him more frequently than I otherwise would have been. I saw first hand how the staff took their time, not only for my father but for all the residents. It gave me great peace of mind knowing my father was getting three meals a day plus snacks, showers, medications on time (every day), and was part of a community at Regency Grand. I am forever grateful for the time my dad spent here and for everyone who made a difference in his life. read more

I see a few negative comments from family members that are not allowed to visit during these unfortunate times. My grandmother has been in this facility for a couple of years now. She started off in the senior care facility and has since been moved to memory care. As an essential worker myself, I commend Regency for taking such a strong and strict stance when it comes to prohibiting visitors. COVID is a dangerous virus for the elderly and by restricting exposure they have put the well being of their residents first. Family members of the residents should be ashamed of themselves for their selfishness and should instead be thankful their loved ones have a better chance against contracting the virus. Regency has gone above and beyond in caring for all of their residents and even offer to FaceTime with family members, window visits and phone calls. Nicole is being attacked for simply doing what she gets paid for, keeping everyone in her care safe and healthy. Is the facility expensive, yes. BUT, you get what you pay for. Thank you to Nicole, the nurses, the facility and to those family members who understand that staying away is the best thing for their loved ones at this time! read more

My friend was looking for a community for her mom to move into and we're really having a hard time. Someone recommended to talk to Leah and Retz at Regency Grand. First and foremost, the building was exactly was my friends mom was looking for. Outside of the aesthetics, the empathy and compassion the Leah, Retz, and there team have is unlike any other. I cannot say enough to praise the staff at Regency Grand! They were amazing to work with. They accommodated every need our family had and even changed normal ways of doing things from day to day to accommodate my moms situation. The care aids were so kind. Leah and Nicole were amazing. Elvia and Debbie were amazing helping with all medical needs and med tech staffing. When you know you are bringing a loved one to a place where they will stay until heaven calls them home... it's not easy! Great place from what Ive seen and what my mom says. Clean Pleasant staff All necessities Comfortable Activities We had lunch there with my mom. We paid 6 dollars each person. Included salad bar and drinks. My daughter and I played pool in bonus room on third floor. They had a park out back. Even though it was 90 degrees outside we sat in gazebo in the shade and it felt like 75 degrees. It was nice. They have a golf putting green out there too but bring your own putter and balls. They don't provide. Some residents must have pets. I pet the community house dog and one friendly resident dog. Check out the pictures. My mom is just staying for two weeks. She is happy while recovering from knee surgery. She doesn't need to be there permanently like the others. Very close to 10 freeway on/off ramps. They clean my moms room once a week. My mom said. Cons: only one tv in rooms u must decide for bedroom or living room. Check with office. I wonder if you pay extra can you get a second tv or you can just bring your own, but I don't know. You must bring your own toiletries. Paper, soap, trashcan. The business advise you in advance. I don't know how much the fees are but my mom's insurance is paying for the stay. Thank goodness. I worked at Regency Grand for four years in their business office. The ONLY reason I left was because of my daycare situation with Covid. The staff truly is a second family to me. Nichole Green is such a wonderful and caring boss and leader. I hope to one day return to work there again. read more

A bit concerned with the Memory Care facility. A nurse from Regency was sent to the hospital to interview my father before his discharge; we wanted to put him in senior care. The nurse said that he was a candidate for their memory care facility based on her interview with him. We moved him into memory care, but moved him out after 9 days. It was $9,000 a month for our father to have his own room and if he needed any extra amenities for care the price kept going up. One little string for him to pull if he needed assistance and he could barely see it. I was informed by staff they only check on members every two hours if in their room. Also, for this price, the food should at least be amazing and from what I observed on my daily visits,this is food you would only give to those who can not complain. When we brought our father home within two weeks his mind cleared 90%. We were told that seniors often suffer confusion and what seems like dementia when they are out of their familiar surroundings for a certain amount of time; the nurse never told us this could be a possibility, luckily we made the judgment to remove him. Staff was friendly and for the most part the facility was clean and pleasant. I guess workers can only do the best they can to care for everyone in Memory Care, but for this price it should be at least a pleasant experience. read more

My mother and husbands experience wasn't the greatest or best it could be at the Regency Grand. Looks very pretty but the communication amongst staff and residence are horrible! The food is tasteless and has no presentation. Less fresh for sure! Canned everything.. Usually room temp or cold by the time they get it to the residence room. Most senior places are allowing dining. Covid has been a very hard time regardless where you are but while researching and visiting other retirement homes in the past month, I found that The Regency was on strict lockdown and very unethical for those with covid. My mother and husband had plastic wrap with a zipper over their door for THREE WEEKS!!!! No house cleaning and food was put through the plastic wrap. Worse than an animal! THREE WEEKS!! No bed changing or cleaning. That's not ok with the health department. This place doesn't even deserve a one star. Be sure you do your homework before you place a parent here. Many are unhappy don't have the help to move or family members in tune. read more

Amazing customer service, and a staff that truly cares for quality of life for their residence, and people in general. The facility is beautiful, clean, and convinient location near shopping and freeway. Although the dinning options were amazing, unfortunately due to my parents being vegetarian, this particular facility didn't work out as they were hoping to find a room with a full kitchen to expand their options. Thankfully, market director Leah Rate went above and beyond to then point us in the right direction, and what had been a year long search was over in days. She was so helpful she even guided us in in right direction for help obtaining medical information when the new facilty staff had a lack of knowledge on the particular situation at hand. I just had the difficult task of removing my mother's belongings from Regency Grand, since she went to heaven on Saturday. Nichole, Leah and the entire staff have been wonderful in this difficult time. My mother in law has been on restriction here since mid March due to COVID19. The dinning area is closed and all sad meals are delivered to the rooms. No more outings and limited doctor visit rides. No visitors are allowed; NO EXCEPTIONS. It's been 2 1/2 months and I can't even visit her. On Mother's Day we visited her from the back alley where her window is. Her great grand kids wrote a chalk message on the alley and it got washed off. These people are heartless. If she were My mother, I would take her out and Not return. Did I mention the cost for this studio jail? $4000 just to move in- non refundable and $3600/m which will increase 6% yr. it was nice when she moved in about 1 1/2 ago but the management changed. Shout out to "Nicole" who is one of the managers there. She is too business minded to have a heart or companion for the 200 shut-ins they have created. After all, if she lets one person visit their mom then she will have to let all 200 high paying residents have a visit with their family and that would be "too hard". After all, $3600/mo wouldn't cover the cost of such a burden. I'm not a fan. read more

My grandma is a resident at Regency Grand and we couldn't be more pleased with the care she receives at all times. It's been very hard for our family to not be able to visit her during COVID but it is COMPLETELY understandable and the protocols they have in place are to keep all residents safe. We get to FaceTime with her regularly and they keep in touch with us often about how she is doing. We are so grateful she's in great hands! read more

I don't have a family member here, but for a couple of years now this place keeps calling me thinking I'm family of a resident. I've told staff that I am not family, please remove my phone number from the resident's chart. This hasn't happened yet, so I'm hoping someone sees this, messages me, and removes my number from the chart it's on. I did chat on their site and was given corporate's number. I was told to call and ask for the "appropriate person" at corporate. When I asked who the appropriate person was, they admitted that they didn't know o.0. Im not sure if I was chatting with a person or bot, but as far as customer service goes, that was totally passing the buck! For obvious reasons I find this inappropriate, please someone from the grand make it right! read more

I had my mother in memory care for 1 year before she passed away. Her nurses and aids treated her so well. Kind and loving. My dad lives in assisted living and when Covid 19 started up, the staff at Regency stepped up. They were weeks ahead of everyone with screening and precautions. Do I miss my dad? Yes! But do I expect them to put these seniors at risk for me or any individual? NO. I feel my dad is in a safe environment and that the staff at the Regency are doing an amazing job. Sure there are occasional meal time mix ups and overall the food is acceptable. Healthy low salt low fat meals. Not my I drop off goodies and treats cuz I love to spoil my dad not because he is starving . I've read a few reviews about the cost, compared to similar facilities they are on par. I am beyond grateful for the Regency Grand. They have the most Caring staff that go above and beyond. My Grandfather has been in their care for many years now and I feel at ease knowing he is receiving the best care! The facility is Clean and the grounds are always tidy and neat. When I was researching a place for my mom to live Regency was one of the places I was looking at. In addition to being a beautiful facility one of the main reasons we chose Regency Grand was because of the staff. At the time we were looking my mom was really not emotionally ready to commit to an assisted living facility. Nichole and her staff (Leah, Alicia) were so good attending to my mom's needs - including the emotional aspect which was huge. It has been three years since my mom moved in. If you ask my mom how she likes it there she will tell you "I feel safe" "I can't imagine being anywhere else" She loves Nichole, Erika, Carmen and Mazie - I think they spoil her! Every single person/staff member has been so kind and gone above and beyond having our needs met. They have treated us like family. Nichole returns my calls, is kind, and genuinely cares about our entire family. The protocols that they have put in place to protect my mom (yes all residents :-) ) during this pandemic are astounding. Our family Dr. is quite impressed! The kindness we received while we were touring has lasted and grown stronger over the three years that my mom has been there. It's such a comfort knowing that she is in a place where people care so much. Nichole is the heart that makes this place run like it does. Her caring personality is infectious. My parents have been at the Regency for the past year. I could never have imagined how wonderful the staff could be. I feel like they are my large extended family who I can call on whenever I or my folks have a need. Many fun activities and the other residents are very sweet too.
