When wait times at Rolex Authorized Dealer (AD) have become more a minimum prison sentence of 3-5 years wait time, it becomes extremely tempting to seek other means for the purchase of your dream watch. Areas such as the gray market and used/ pre-owned resellers are becoming tempting. But keep in mind there are "more fakes than authentic Rolexs on the market" and currently on the wrists of the super successful in society. An issue that Rolex themselves don't seem to mind!  The Diamond Exchange, a business that claims over 30 years in the industry the price becomes extremely tempting. Best of all is the selection of "Rolex" products on hand: they have various models, years, and designs and at a mere 30-35% above the AD's new MSRP! As ridiculous as that sounds, it can ve extremely tempting when considering the current gray market prices. When entering a business that is asking only 30% MSRP, it easily becomes a viable option (30% is actually on the low end currently). While making my purchase, the seller informed me that Rolex does not keep time very well. This statement should have set off red flags, but unfortunately, it did not at the time. I purchased an extremely well-made Rolex Submariner that was only a couple of years old and still was under warranty according to the certified card included. I was filled with joy. However, that ended when the watch was losing over 20 seconds s a day. I simply dropped the watch off at an authorized dealer for repair in Tysons. I was quoted a jaw-dropping 12-16 week turnaround for the repair. As discouraging as it was to spend thousands of dollars and need repair within a week of purchase, I wanted the quality that I invested in, so off it went. Feeling confident, I left with an empty wrist and voucher. Several weeks later, I received a call from the dealer informing me that my watch was ready for pickup. However, nothing was done as a result of the watch not being authentic. The Rolex Submariner watch. I was sold a FAKE ROLEX! When I inquired what the issue was, the dealer informed me I would need to contact Rolex directly to find out the details. At this point, thousands of dollars were dumped down the drain! My dream watch scenario was quickly morphing into a nightmare situation. Disappointment and shock would be an understatement of the decade! It was equally interesting that the authorized dealer that I brought the watch to wasn't able to tell the item was unauthentic initially. To be exact- a congratulations on my purchase was originally offered only amplifying the sting further. Rolex informed me that the watch was fake and that the Serial Number did not exist in their records. The certified card had all matching information and appropriate markings needed; details discovered during my research. After conducting hours of research and feeling confident about the sellers reputation, I made my purchase, only to be bamboozled in the end. I had become a victim of fraud! A 10-15 year prison sentence at stake I went to return the fake I purchased weeks before. When I entered, the seller claimed not to remember me or the original transaction - more salt I'm the wound. I demanded my money back as I recalled the details of my experience. The owner casually stated, "Of course I'll return the money for your purchase," as he feined shock that the item was fake. In the end, I was sold an extrenely well made high-end clone (1:1 available online). He further explained that he received the watch on trade by a trusted return customer that he would need to "have a talk with." My overall experience was absolutely traumatizing. The transaction was horrible and I would not recommend conducting business with the Diamond Exchange when purchasing a Rolex line product unless of course you are willing to spin the wheel and become another mark to pad the pockets of shady business practices. Simply having a store front does not make you reputable. It is integrity and business practices those of which are clearly lacking at the Diamond Exchange. read more

At first glance you wouldn't know that I'm a doctor and I am also a person of color. I walked into the store looking to sell a gold ring with diamonds around it. When I pushed the buzzer to be let in and I walked down the aisle to greet the people who worked there I was looked at "oddly" is the best way to describe it and the customer service reps looked around at each other I guess deciding who was going to help me. There was another customer there who was also making a transaction, assuming it was an appraisal but was seated behind the counter while they looked at his item (basically assisting him with his transaction) while I was left to sit in the aisle as if I was purchasing. Yet there was space to do the same for me while reviewing my item but that was not offered. I'm not accusing anyone of being biased and I don't like to jump to that conclusion, but I did generally feel unwelcomed or that my business was not wanted. Possibly even how I was dressed I could have been perceived as a person without means. It's Saturday so I had on jeans and a hoodie (casual wear). Granted I was the only other person who looked like me in the store at the time. I believe they gave me a fair price for my item being that it could not be resized which would make it difficult for them to sell. I totally understood that. No problem there. My issue is how I was treated compared to the other customer in the store at the time. My visit was not very long it was very much a "here ya go, try somewhere else" kinda deal. If I visit this place again, I hope to be treated like a welcomed and valued customer. read more

I had a nice ring that had been sitting in a drawer for years. I was hesitant to try to sell it, thinking of dealing with a low offer and hard sell. I entered the Diamond Exchange and immediately felt at ease. The service was personable and pleasant. The store displays tasteful jewelry and exceptionally nice men's watches (which I will go back for). The value of the ring was explained to me and while of course I wanted more, was very fair. Do your homework! Might be an OK place to buy, but I can't recommend it as a place to sell. This experience is not much different than going to a pawn shop. I brought in several items- a bunch of gold jewelry that I hadn't worn in years and 3 diamond rings- including a one carat solitaire that I had appraised prior to my visit. The gold jewelry was weighed and the price seemed to be in the ballpark of what I thought was fair. Thankfully I did not accept their offer on the rings. They offered $800 for my one carat solitaire- less than 10% of the insurance appraisal, and not at all fair. I ended up getting $2000 for the solitaire from another company the same afternoon. Also, on my other pieces, the second company offered significantly more. Bottom line- do your homework and shop around. Lots of jewelry and watches- when I expressed some interest in a new setting for my solitaire, I was shown several "used" and very mediocre settings priced at $500 and up. Hmmm, they offered me $800 for a one-carat solitaire and then tried to sell me a used setting with tiny diamond chips -- this did not compute in my head, so thankfully I left and got treated much better elsewhere. This is a very nice shop filled with a wide assortment of Rolex watches and other high end watches. They also offer many gorgeous jewelry items from diamond earrings to tennis necklaces. The gems are breath taking. I have bought and sold here for many years. When I get tired of a piece of jewelry I own I go here to sell it and purchase something different. Justin and Keith are very knowledgeable and have always given me fair prices for what I bring in to sell and I have purchased many items including a sapphire and diamond ring for my mom for Mother's day, a gorgeous pair of 14k and princess cut diamond earrings, gold necklaces and a reasonably priced Rolex Yachtmaster. The assortment is huge, the cases sparkle and are very well organized. I have even taken items in to have repaired. I was looking to trade in my diamond for a slightly larger, higher quality GIA certified stone (keeping my current mounting). These folks were polite, knowledgeable, and low key. I found them to be very honest and decent. I hocked a 14K class ring (from 1988- geezer) at 14g for $225. Melt was $320, but consider the process starts for them with a 24 day wait. They then have the ring researched 3rd party for theft reports and such. In addition, there is the possibility of volatility in the market causing the gold price to drop. All in all, it was a really good experience. I was very shocked, after being referred to this jewelry company, how poor their communications skills are to the client. I brought a diamond ring into them to have an estimate done to make the ring into a pendant..not only did I have to call several times about the estimate, but they actually sent the ring to another jeweler, without my consent, to have it made. No calls about the design, the weight of the gold that they were exchanging, the sizes of the diamonds they were using, nothing! Excuses were all he offered. I called and said that for a business owner, which I am as well, their communication stinks! He told me to just come and get my stuff. The shop itself is small and outdated looking but I guess ambiance isn't really important when you're just trying to offload some old jewelry. Based on my experience, though, I think they're trying to take advantage of people they perceive to be down on their luck. After my divorce, I decided to sell my engagement ring because...well, why not? I got seriously lowballed. I mean, insultingly, seriously lowballed. My former engagement ring is (was) just over 2 carats, VS1 clarity, H color and VG cut. It was appraised for insurance purposes at $20,400. I took it to Diamond Exchange mainly because they seemed "nice" on the website and on the phone but when I actually handed the ring over for the gentleman to look at, it seemed to go downhill from there. He took the ring to another gentleman sitting at a desk behind the counter who inspected it with a loupe all the while loudly making comments about huge occlusions and imperfections. "Offer her $3,500", he said to the counter gentleman and handed the ring back to him as if it were covered in horse manure. The counter gentleman brought back the ring and the rather insulting offer and I politely thanked him and left with the ring. A couple of weeks later, I sold it to another jeweler for $6,250. I realize that there is a huge markup on diamond rings, but offering $3,500 for a $20,400 ring reeks of a store trying to take advantage of people who may not know any better. That also explains the loud grumbling about non-existant huge (or at least seriously exaggarated) occlusions and imperfections within my earshot. Thankfully, I had an idea of what my ring should be worth in this situation but I feel like this place preys on people who don't. That's just wrong to me. read more

I have been a customer of this family owned and run business since 2001. For years I drove past the the store located right off Rockville Pike. My first interaction was trading my father's broken Rolex watch for something I could personally enjoy. Since then I have purchased and traded in (they always have allowed me to trade an item purchased at the Diamond Exchange for it's original purchase price, and then place the credit towards something else of greater value.... SOMETHING, unheard of at other jewelry stores. If they do not have what I want, they will find it, Sometimes it may take a couple of months, but they will find it_ i In the past a ring I purchased had a small diamond fall out of the setting. The Diamond Exchange repaired and replaced it free of charge without hesitation. This is well above and beyond what another store would do.. When I shop I look for honest input and style guidance, I also I get this from the storel This family owned business has a no pressure staff who knows their product and trends. I really rely on their insight. I moved out of the state in 2005 and to this day, will only consider doing business here. Not a fancy store, no logo on the box, but, more important than that~ they pass the savings along to the consumer....and........ of much more importance to me~ A higher quality product and, or, more product for the money!! They have a good selection of other rings too, but I was looking for something custom so I'll speak to my experience with that. They were willing to let me decide what I wanted to do, which I liked and I felt like I had more freedom here than anywhere else I had looked. I actually went at the suggestion of a friend to buy an engagement ring for my (now) fiancée. I dealt with Katie most of the time and she was very helpful, after helping me get educated (which I think is important when making a large purchase like this) she ordered loose stones for me to look at. I was a bit picky because I wanted to find something perfect, but she was patient and never pressured me while i looked for the right one. Bought a watch here a few weeks ago then decided to exchange it for another watch. The initial watch was sent to me overnight then when I returned it, the second watch was also sent to me overnight. Didn't have such a pleasant visit to the Diamond Exchange of Rockville, Md location. Brought in my wedding rings for appraising and pricing. The guy there didn't seem interested at all. He told me he wasn't interested in my jewelry. Also he shared they had to many other rings of the same cut and style their already. They dont accept used jewelry...that last comment left my a bit irritated. Since every jewelry item in there is used from previous owners. I guess I wasn't the right color to have legitimate jewelry. Had a good time today in an attempt to sell a diamond ring, and other pieces of gold 10k, 14k, 18k, etc. while I was disappointed in the prices offered, so kept my pieces, I understood their decision making process. I dealt with Katie and Justin, and another gentleman who fixed my watch for free, and everyone was courteous and kind. It pays to comparison shop when you're selling gold. I visited five other places before I finally sold my jewelry to Diamond Exchange. They offered $280 more than the lowest offer. The transaction was quick and painless, and the person I dealt with was polite and efficient. Sold to them a second time, a few weeks later. This time, I didn't bother getting other offers--went straight back to them. Did I get a good price this time? Who knows? But I wasn't in the mood to go back to the five places I first visited. read more
