I am in a wheelchair and their are only stairs going into the park. yet on the Red Cross side of the fence. . . . . a gate would give perfect wheelchair access. There are doggy AND human-sized water fountains for your respective convenience, and people usually bring extra plastic bags to keep the poop bag container full & ready for battle. This park gets a lot of paw traffic, so the grass is sparse and there's a lot of dirt...which will get your dog dirty...and if it has been raining, it'll get your dog muddy. But lucky for you...it's a dog! and with a little doggie shampoo, some warm water and a pinch of TLC, your little pal will be as good as new. :) A bigger problem might be the fleas. My dogs have gotten fleas a couple of times after coming here...which is a bummer, but not the end of the world. Otherwise, this place is the bees knees! Just a warning, your dog must be on Frontline... or else your dog & very-likely you, too, will be infested with blood sucking fleas. Besides that, Bark Park is perfect for big, humongous, desperately needing Cesar Milan type of dogs. This is nicest dog park that I know around my town. I'm not even living right by here (15 mins drive distance) still go here because it's nice and big . Sometimes after rain gets really really a lot of muddy but as long as my dog happy it makes me happy too. Good thing about here no need bring bag because they have one already for ya and the water fountain so no need bring your own hehe. Around 4~6( maybe summer time till 7:30pm because it depends on sunset time) a lot of awesome dogs are there so please take your dog and let them have fun and communicate they also have a parking lot across street and have liltle place for small dogs read more

if you've got a big doggy then you've come to the right park, this is where it seems the big boys come to play. I normally come during the weekday mornings/afternoons, so its never very busy, but there is always someone for my doggy to play with. the only thing that bothers me about this place is that they will water the grass mid-afternoon (which my dog just LOVES of course). I don't mind that he gets all muddy, heck that's why he's there, but it just seems really wasteful to be running water at 12 noon. You should really be watering early morning, or early evening. Anytime else its just going to evaporate and do nothing for the grass. read more

Soooooo great! The first time is a little scary. You park. You sidle up to the double-gated "foyer" area while your dog is jumping nuts at the dogs inside. You release the leash...and he's off! The people become mysteriously silent goalposts in ones and twos as the dogs sit, stand, frolick, and chase balls around them. Lots of punctured soccer balls, a multi-tiered (if dirty) doggie water fountain, and even a "mini bark park" to be found here. Why mini? It's a little bitty fenced "park" off the bigger park for midget dogs to play in without getting stampeded! My cocker spaniel had so much fun here! There must have been two dozen dogs and I didn't want to leave either! Big dogs, small dogs, hyperactive dogs, old almost-dead dogs, all together in harmony. Enjoyable? I think yes. Beware the wind, and the red dirt dust that bites in the wind. And definitely bathe your poochie after coming here! I want to go back all the time! read more

This was the only dog park I was taking my chihuahua to for a while, until he gave me ringworm. I have come to believe it was from all the exposed dirt in the park. Since then I have stuck with taking him to the beach or to a field nearby my home to romp. Glad to see that they have started to take care of the grass though. Haven't had an issue with any dogs or owners the many times I have been here. Everyone I've encountered has been extremely friendly and knowledgable! read more

I appreciate the fact that this is a memorial kind of park, free for the public on private land. But really, it would not be my first choice when thinking about where to take a dog. It smells like poo, you have to transverse a wide stretch of dirt to get to the grassy area. Also, the bark park is located right next to diamond head cemetery..... just a little creepy. read more

I love this little dog park. We've been going here since my dog was just a puppy. The first dozens of times we went in she did her typical submission puppy-roll-over on the ground grovel at any dog or person that approached her. It was hilarious! Now she's much more confidant and sociable - and all those trips to the dog park have paid off. My dog and I have been going here for 4 years now and we've made lots of friends and learned so much. The people here are friendly and so kind and always willing to socialize. The park is a non-profit, tax-exempt organization and donations and help with park maintenance are always welcome. We don't mind helping out with tree trimming or fence painting because it has provided my dog (and I) with such a wonderful community to be a part of. Just remember to pick up after your dog if he/she poops in the park. No one likes to step in hot, steamy dog poop - or cold hard dog poop either. Woof! read more

It's a park, some have grass, some have dirt, this one just happens to have both. Plus it's a park for dogs, not the President so you cant expect the Great Lawn. And from what I know, the park is maintained by volunteers/patrons, not the state so as far as aesthetics, an enclosed place for dogs to run and play on the island, you really cant complain. Im just glad it isnt red dirt like in the Mililani Dog Park. There are benches/picnic tables to sit at while your dog socializes, trees for shade and a multi-tiered water fountain. Peak times are 430PM-630PM. Dog fights can and do occur so keeping an eye out for your dog doesnt hurt. read more

Easy parking, water for your dog, lots of shade, kept pretty clean and room for your dog to run. I used to love this dog park until my 5 mnth old dog was attacked unprovoked. The owner stood there and did NOTHING while his large and aggressive dog jumped up on me and my dog .My dog was on a leash the entire time. His dog jumped on me & tore my pants and his owner did nothing . Thankfully There was a very kind man that helped pull the large dog off of us. The owner was angry and yelled at the man from helping me and pulling his dog off of us , but he would have killed my dog otherwise while he just sat and watched his dog attack mine. He claimed that I shouldnt of had my dog on his leash. The reason he was on a leash in the first place was because his dog walked into the park in a very aggressive manner. PLEASE TAKE RESPONSIBILITY for your pets or don't go to a dog park !!! Will not be returning ever again. I have a feeling there are more irresponsible pet owners here. read more

Have been to Honolulu many times, but never hiked the crater at Diamond Head before and it was one of my "must do" things this trip. Unfortunately, I was only going to be in Oahu from Monday-Thursday and the trail to the rim is closed exactly those days for repairs. The trail is ONLY open from Friday-Sunday until the trails are completed. So, that was a bummer and accounts for my rating. Current visitors be warned!!! read more

Nice spacious dog park, partially shaded and fully gated. Mostly big dogs. Poop bags provided and the grounds seem to be kept up well. There is a very small parking lot across the street from the entrance on the diamond head park side that holds maybe 10 cars. read more

I used to take my dogs here after there were too many attacks at the dog park in Mililani but this one is now just as bad. My poor husky just wants to stretch his legs and run around with other dogs but yesterday was the final straw. We barely made it in the gate and another extremely aggressive dog went after him so once again, I had to carry him out to avoid him getting injured or killed. So many irresponsible pet owners here and no accountability from any kind of law enforcement. There's even a giant sign as you walk in that says "DO NOT LET YOUR DOGS FIGHT"!! I love taking my dog here. We live in a high rise, so he needs a local space to run and just be doggie all out. I have a 100-ish pound Mastiff mix (I think, he still has not told us what breed he is, lol). There's tons of room, plenty of shady areas and benches placed throughout, so you can be social or keep to yourself. They also have a water fountain that is pedal operated. I personally only go on days the dog needs a bath, because he is a mess by the time we leave. I love the variety of dogs and dog owners that attend this park. read more

I have been coming to this park since 2011 and over the past year, there have been more and more instances of aggressive dogs and dismissive owners. This evening there was an owner and his black mix dog that had 2 fights with different dogs. After the first major fight (it went on in front of the owner and he did nothing but stare), regardless of fault, you should remove the dogs from the park. His dog was already so worked up that he continued his aggression to the other dogs in the park. Which then led to my interaction. His dog became very aggressive against mine, and I intervened immediately. The owner did nothing but argue when he was informed the dog should be removed immediately due to 3 occasions of aggression. To which his reply was "oh I love it when people come to the dog park for the first time" to which a verbal argument ensued. These careless owners need to be banned from using these parks. Perhaps if they are hit where their wallets sit, they'll learn. read more

People are nice they watch their pups and yours are quick to respond and even when I did see an incident, while the person who's dog caused the proble left without exchanging any info, everyine else came together and chipped in to cover vet cost.. good people for the most part 99% of the time... the park is regularly sprayed with cedar oil to help keep the fleas down. As far as I am aware, people all keep their dogs treated and are attivive in not only picking up after theeir own dog but others as well... One issue I have is unaltered male dogs ??? I don't understand bringing them for the most part to a park .. there are a few who go who's owners watch them very carefuly and if there is any issue they leave right away.. there are others who of course are of the entitled mindset who have to be told to leave... that is nice to know in advance it your pup hs issues with unaltered males. An issue I've norticed in the past few years is people bringing infants toddlers to the dog parks....WTF? it only takes a few seconds for a dog to cause a child a lifetime of damage? So, to those of you stupid enough to believe it's ok to bring a small child to a dog park be pre-warned; I will phone the police and file charges of child endangerment against you ... I will not have my dog or any one else's dog put down due to your selfishness & ignorance. read more

I work long crazy hrs all the time so I needed to find a place where late night outings w/ the doggies is possible. Like others have commented it is not the most visually appealing place for human eyes and comforts....but for doggies this is a great big ole place with lots of almost complete freedom...we love the gated entry. Just be sure to bring flashlights if you go really late to avoid any landmines left behind. read more

Took my dog total of 5 times starting since 5 months ago. Apparently my dog looks like another persons dog and I was verbally attacked by a 40-50 yr old man and woman. Called me names, threatened me and told me my dog was an a-hole. Never met them or their dog. Everyone else at the park told them they were being disrespectful and rude. Sad that the most aggressive thing there today was that couple and not a dog. read more

The Park: Very large park, but where is the grass? I've brought my dog here twice and both times she comes home covered in dirt. Meaning, when we bathe her, the water runs brown. Gross! So yes, we have to give her a bath after coming home from this park because who wants all that dirt in their house and on their furniture?! The park looks neglected. There is a small dog gated area way in the back corner, that no one can use. The gate is broken and there is all kinds of crap in there. It looks like a junk yard. The dogs and people we've met here were friendly, so there was no issue with aggressive dogs and stupid owners. Parking: There is a small lot across the street. If you live in the general area, I'd walk here. But for us people who live further away and drive here, the parking kind of sucks. We parked next door in the American Red Cross parking lot so we didn't have to play frogger trying to cross Monsarat. If you don't care about parking or your dog running around in dirt, then I guess you can go here. But we'll not be returning! read more

Nice area besides the fact it's next to a graveyard. Cleaner than I thought ! The area is big & there's tons of grass , not just mud/dirt. Sundays late afternoon is when I've gone & there's been about 5-8 dogs there. All n all I enjoyed it there so did my pup ! read more

Although parking is ample across the street, access for the disabled is non existent. There are stair that descend into the park. Be careful crossing the road. The park itself is clean, and well maintained. Volunteers regularly clean and restock supplies. Please be cognizant of keeping the place clean as well. read more

This park is great for any size dog, Its a pretty good size and has plenty of trees for shade, water fountain for dogs and owners, doo doo bags incase you forgot to bring one, and of course trash cans and plenty of them around the park. The park is not state of city funded so its ran by volunteers. My dog always has a blast when he goes, and he has made tons of friends. Everyone there is very nice and friendly. There is one dog to watch out for he gets pretty aggressive at first but after a while he does not care. It tends to get a bit muddy so bring towels to put down on your car just incase. Also make sure your dog is on some sort of flea and tick meds because just like any dog park he can catch them here. read more

This park is alright, but unlike the Hawaii Kai dog park, it has no separation between small dogs and big dogs - at least I didn't see one. Also, if by any chance it rains, bring a towel - there will definately be some muddy paws in the car because half the park is just dirt. I like this dog park because the atmosphere is very comfortable & casual. My dog is smaller but plays well with big dogs and when we went to the Hawaii kai dog part we encountered a lot of snooty people who wanted her to not be out in the main area in case their dogs hurt her. While the concern was understood, I know my dog and was sad to see her forced to play alone. The Diamond Head bark park is the opposite. Everyone seems to like all the dogs to play & the small caged area is almost always left open. There are lots of benches & tables along with shady spots. The park is pretty well kept & most people are good about picking up after their dogs. I like how peaceful it is to sit here while my pup gets to let loose. I do recommend flea treatments as this park has been known to have but I have never really had a problem. For a long while now, I have been overprotective of my 'Doggie Daughter', Keona, regarding her exploring the outside world. PARVO and other doggie diseases had me extremely worried. After assurances from several great veterinarians (that I personally know), I felt that once Keona reached 5 months I would feel better about her exploring the world outside of my house (OK, I waited 1 more month for good measure!!!) After reading the numerous reviews for the Diamond Head Bark Park, I decided to drive by the day before yesterday to have a look for myself. I was surprised to see such a lovely, large, shaded, grassy place with dogs running and having a great time! Yesterday, I took Keona, my 6 month old Jack Russell, to Diamond Head Bark Park. She LOVED IT!!! The dogs there were wonderful (both BIG AND SMALL). It was Keona's first time at a dog park with other dogs and she fit in BEAUTIFULLY!!! I even had a chance to meet other 'Doggie Parents' while our kids played. We shared information, different experiences and had great laughs!!! I also would like to note that this dog park is 95% grassy with huge shade trees, plenty of places to sit (which I need from time to time) and even picnic tables. Keona and I are both looking forward to our next visit to the Diamond Head Bark Park in the coming days (hopefully after the rain passes this weekend)!!! read more
