Boy, with the lock down on our state and my gym closed until who knows when............what does…read moreone do for exercise???? Lucky for me, I have a trusty "exercise machine" - my Golden Retriever "Makana" and we've been doing several miles of walks wherever it may take us. Recently I discovered a new park within the Kahala neighborhood called - "Hunakai Park" located of course on Hunakai Street (Duh! Lol!). This small neighborhood park really reminds me of the neighborhood park Makana & I normally like to go to - (Kalaepohaku Park). Hunakai Park is clean and well kept. There is large rocks/boulders surrounded around the outside perimeter of the park, I guess it's to keep anyone from driving on the beautiful green grass? There is no private parking lot for this park, but finding parking is not an issue here, as there is a lot of street parking available. A few things I found kinda weird about this park - 1. I noticed there were no trash cans, benches, or picnic tables at this park, but I guess since it's a private park..........maybe there is nobody around that can regularly maintain it? 2. There was no jungle gym for kids to play on, but again, since it's a private park.........maybe liability issues just in case someone gets hurt? One this that this park did have, was a sand pit at one end of the park, and I guess the pit could be used for "beach volleyball", but I did not see any volleyball net set up. Overall, it's just a nice open field park with some trees.........good for bringing doggies here so you can let them run around. :D

We're back to hike up the trail to Diamond Head after 10 years. Our grandchildren, ages 8, 6, and 4…read moreare hiking it for their first time. We visit Oahu every year but we're usually relaxing at the beach and not really doing touristy things. Ayyy...But the son and DIL were interested in visiting DH, so I made a reservation. First time going online to make a reservation. Back in the day you just got there early, parked, and walked up. LOL Made a reservation online for 7 people and it was $45 which included parking. Little did I know we would end up not renting a car, so we Ubered from our hotel. If I would have known three days ahead of time, I could have received a refund. But alas, I did not. Oh well. The kiddos all hiked up to the top with the adults and did a great job. One of the kiddos was a little cranky having to avoid people and pull over next to the rocks to let people pass, but she survived and quit complaining once we offered a shaved iced once we were back at the trail head. #highlyrecommend

No reservation needed for local residents. I visited Diamond Head State Monument on a Sunday…read moremorning and the parking lot was packed. I drove up to the guard shack, showed my ID and was able to park in the open lot. I recommend carpooling as parking is limited. I hadn't hiked Diamond Head in 10 years, so I forgot how strenuous it can be. I wore comfortable athletic sneakers, a large sun hat and brought a 24 oz water bottle with me. There's little to no shade for most of the hike. Certain parts of the hike are steep and uneven. Definitely take your time and don't feel rushed. There's enough room for people to go around you, if needed. I saw some elementary kids zip past me, so even younger kids can do it. There is a steep stairwell and a dark tunnel that leads to the top. Once I got to the lookout, it was so crowded. It was hard to take photos and gather with my friends. I felt so claustrophobic. After that, I climbed back down. When I got to the end of the hike, I went to the gift shop kiosk. There's a bunch of Sanrio exclusive merch that I picked up for my friends. I thought that was the best reward for my hike.

My old stomping grounds for B-ball & tennis…read more... It's been more than three decades since I last got on a basketball court to shoot some hoops, and it's nice to see that the Kapaolono Community Park is trying to up keep their facilities. This community park has a special place in my heart as I spent many hours here playing basketball, tennis, & baseball/softball. Kapaolono has a very large field, great for baseball & softball. Two tennis courts, & two basketball courts. They also have a swimming pool here, but I've never had a chance to use it. A few things I noticed about myself when I got back on the basketball court - 1. I noticed I had a little trouble dribbling the basketball, due to the neuropathy in my fingers. 2. I can still shoot the ball pretty well. 8 out of 10 on the freethrow line ain't too bad for an old fart like me. Lol! 3. Man, I am out of shape! If young kids asked me to join in on a pick-up game, I'd probably have to pass to prevent a heart-attack! Lol! 4. There are cracks on the basketball court, but at least the cracks are not craters! Lol! Still a great Community Park to visit & get some exercise! Gotta keep moving, to keep da old man out!
